    QOR has ended up as my favorite watercolor paint. I do a lot of wet in wet and love the randomness and possible lack of control watercolor gives. I love DS's earth tones, pinks, & granulating pigments, but QOR's transparency, near-zero color shift, vibrancy, and it's movement, oh! I positively adore that Aquazol! I prefer it to the ox galls I've tried in the past, & it's the Aquazol that makes QOR's watercolors magical! I've acquired a bottle of it to add to my water so all of my pigments will explode like fireworks when I want them to. ✨💜
    *This mini goes everywhere with me.

    I keep watching this over and over and this is by far the best demonstration of Qor attributes. I watched other artists but you do it justice 🎉

    I blieve it could be the case that the binder qor uses require more strength for pigment dispersion thus requiring stronger dispersion agent. And I would like to point out that Holbein watercolor comes in tubes dosent have ox gall in it, famous for its handling properties, making it more prominent in gettimg pushed by qor.

    Ended up watching it late last night, was really enjoyable! Love the close ups, I keep meaning to do those but feeling too lazy to do that with just one cam. 😅 The longer I watch you use that sword brush the more I think I need one! 😁 I have a Silver Black Velvet but its bristles are not as long. 🌞🤗

    • @iritlandgraf
      @iritlandgraf  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Alyona! Yes, that brush is lovely, I do think you'd enjoy it! I asked you in one of your videos, but I know it's hard with UA-cam sometimes to see older comments, so I'll ask again :) You reviewed that gorgeous book by the Mintgardner (is that her name?), the spiral bound botanical one. I wanted to ask if you think it's also suitable for more advanced painters? It looks lovely and I would love to get it but I worry it won't have enough new content for me... How did you find it as a source of new information and techniques?

    • @AlyonasWatercolourCreations
      @AlyonasWatercolourCreations 4 роки тому

      Irit Landgraf Oh sorry, didn’t see that comment at all. Not sure what happened but a couple of months ago I noticed I don’t get notified for all comments so I miss out on some of them :((
      In terms of the Mintgardener, that book honestly is filled with so much information. I found it quite refreshing and it didn’t give me a sense that it’s just another modern botanical illustration book, it’s so much more! I would highly recommend for both beginners and seasoned artists! Because Sarah Simon [the artist behind the book] is so generous with sharing her techniques and style you’ll find new things for sure as it’s her individual creativity that she does in her own way even if it might be a familiar technique.
      If you do go for the book, I am pretty sure you would love it! I find myself seeing something new and inspiring every time I open a page at random. 👌🏼🦋

    • @iritlandgraf
      @iritlandgraf  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you! That's reallly helpful, I appreciate it! As for the UA-cam comments, have you tried using the app UA-cam studio? IT's really convenient to keep on top of new comments. I don't like getting email notifications for each comment, having the app is much easier! What it doesn't show is new replies to comments, those are impossible to follow...

    Qor is my favorite watercolor ever. Sometimes just to get started painting, I put down a large circle of water and just drop my Qor paints in it to see them move. I usually love blues and purples and greens, but have fallen in love with Qor Venetian Red. Its a surprisingly beautiful pale pink at its lightest. I received the tiny tin set for my birthday. I fell in love and have bought the 24 set twice and the earth set, even though Qor is very expensive here in California as well, but they dry and rewet perfectly in pans. I would love to see a video on the mini pan set.

    Oh my gosh!!! I actually just realized this the other day… no mud when primary colors are up against each other. I didn’t know if it was because the world paint stains & kinda doesn’t mix like usual, but I honestly didn’t know why that happened. Thank you so much for this video. I’m so excited to go play with them more and see what all I can do. I have a huge set of these and honestly didn’t know if I was going to keep or return them. I think they come in smaller tube’s because they just seem to last and last my colbalt teal is my favorite and I have 5ml tube and it’s still half full a year l8r. I think they are more densely packed with pigment than other brands. I would bet on the fact that most qor colors will last at least 2x longer than any other 15ml brand. Like my schminke 5ml tubes seemed like they were almost nothing in comparison to qor.

    Thank you so much for making this beautiful and informative video! I purchased a bunch of Qor paint, simply because I like how luminous the colors are, and I didn't realize until I read comments online recently that it flows more than other brands, and then I was stymied over how to use this effect. I will definitely experiment with wet into wet techniques in the future!

    Great video! I love Qor watercolors. When I started painting about 2 years ago, they were the first brand that I tried. They are still pretty expensive and I am in the US. but their introductory sets are very reasonable. Do you have the High Chroma Set? You would like that collections of colors I think. I think the Dioxazine Purple has the highest dispersion rate of all. It can fly across the page. I agree with you this is what is great about watercolors! Thanks for sharing.

    Merci pour cette vidéo. J'ai eu le coup de foudre pour les QOR qui sont mes premières aquarelles. Elles ont une brillance extraordinaire! Avez vous tenté un mélange avec une couleur d'une autre gamme? Ici j'ai testé cela avec Winsor and Newton pour créer un bel orange mais ce n'est pas satisfaisant. Comme je débute, j'ignore si c'est lié à une maladresse de ma part ou une autre particularité des QOR.

      Thanks for this video. I fell in love with the QORs, which are my first watercolors. They have an extraordinary shine! Have you tried mixing with a color from another range? Here I tested this with Winsor and Newton to create a nice orange but it is not satisfactory. As I begin, I do not know if it is related to an awkwardness on my part or another particularity of the QORs.

    • @iritlandgraf
      @iritlandgraf  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Particia! Sorry I don't speak French. I think Qor can absolutley mix with other colors. Probably your mixes depend more on pigments than formulation of the paint itself... Meaning you may have gotten an orange you didn't like because the colors you mixed don't make that orange shade you wanted, maybe try other combinations of yellows and reds/pinks. Most watercolor brands use the same pigments and there isn't a huge difference between most of the basic common colors, in my opinion anyway :)

      Haha, if you already have a good selection, you may want to pick up their Synthetic ox gall, which, when mixed with watercolors gives that pushy quality. They seem to create more intense washes…but that could be due to your excellent camera work 😉. Anyway, you were right, really enjoyed this!

    • @iritlandgraf
      @iritlandgraf  4 роки тому +1

      Glad to spend your morning coffee together! I suspect the paint in the half pans could be more intense, since it is more concentrated? It's just crazy pigmented and rewets super fast, they did a great job with the formula.

    • @jaredtreanor8499
      @jaredtreanor8499 4 роки тому

      Hi Renee, QoR tubes are the same formula as the tube paints, so if you're interested in painting from pans, you can fill pans with your tube colors and let them dry and then paint from them!

    Magic. That's what happens :D I will say that they are lovely to watch, perhaps almost as fun as my granulating and color separating paints. The unique binder in Qor is fun for play, but as a very controlled and intentional painter who has a hard time with a loose style, it's really hard for me to get in a groove when I use them. Unpredictable, but so pretty!

    Generally the finer the particle is, the more active it is spreading in water. It is both under influence of inherent physics rules and more dispeesion agent needed milling finer pigment. And synthetic organic ones are usually very fine in size.
