Marty Friedman from MegaDeth and Paul Gilbert have done some work together for Japanese TV. It's amazing, and hillarious all at the same time. If you like watching Paul play guitar, search for video clips of those two together. One of the shows was called Rock Fujiyama i believe.
💜 Jay needs to watch "Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy" live in Tokyo, Japan in 1991. They play guitars with drills. Amber needs to see the official video for "Just Take My Heart". I LOVE this group! 💜💜💜
Billy Sheehan is the bass player. Previous to Mr.Big he was in David Lee Roth’s band who was the former lead singer of Van Halen. Y’all should react to Yankee Rose by DLR if you haven’t already.
Paul Gilbert is one of my favorite guitarists. While his solo albums are not commercial smash hits they show off both his incredible technical abilities and his growing and maturing taste. I particularly love his Fuzz Universe and Vibrato albums.
@@fredfredburger5150 I really like the version from Spaceship Live. It doesn't have the second guitar but its a great live performance including Marco Minnemann on drums
It's such an 80's thing that this band has 2 of the greatest bass and guitar shredders to ever pick up an instrument, but they're best known for a ballad.
Billy Sheehan on the bass. I had lunch with him last summer in Nashville and he's every bit as energetic now as he was when this came out in 1989. Billy was also the bassist for David Lee Roth when Dave left Van Halen, and he has played bass on a TON of other artists' albums. Definitely worth checking him out with Steve Vai on the G3 Live in Denver videos out there.
A band of musical prodigies! Billy Sheehan re-wrote the book on bass guitar. Paul Gilbert is just a freak of nature on guitar, and Pat Torpey (RIP) on drums is just fantastic. Throw in Eric Martin on vocals with catchy songwriting, and you have yourself a supergroup!
I was SO STOKED to see you guys doing Mr. Big again. The combination of Knight, Sheehan, Torpey, and Gilbert was truly one of the most overlooked supergroup style of act back in the day. Billy Sheehan will always be one of the best rock bass players ever.
OH YEAH! MR. BIG! Vocals - Erica Martin, Guitar- Paul Gilbert, Bass- Billy Sheehan, Drums- Pat Torpey. Other songs to check out......"Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy" , "Green Tinted Sixties Mind", "Colorado Bulldog", " Take Cover"
Finally!!! Another ballad from them Just take my heart. Mr Big is on a farewell tour, they are currently in South America Another good one is Level 42 Something about you!!! 😁😘
Billy Sheehan on bass guitar. He’s also the bass player for David Lee Roth on a couple DLR solo albums. Check out “Yankee Rose” from David Lee Roth. Billy Sheehan on bass and Steve Vai on guitar…. Two of the best!
Please give proper props to Billy Sheehan! This song starts off with the bass. Billy Sheehan is the most talented underrated basis in rock and roll. He played with David Lee Roth when David Lee Roth left Van Halen and went solo, as well as Mr Big, and now the winery dogs. Please check him out with David Lee Roth and also with the winery dogs. You've done a version of the song fooled around and fell in Love with the original singer, Elvin Bishop, but please do the version that the winery dogs did in Japan. I promise you will love it! But again please give praise to Billy, he is so deserving and he is the nicest man on rock and roll right now in social media. He responds to you will carry on a conversation with you and is amazing. We saw the winery dogs in Dallas back in March and they blew us away
You should check out their live version of Shy Boy from Budokan, Japan. A song that Billy Sheehan wrote in the band Talas. David Lee Roth also recorded it. Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan really plays up to each other on Shy Boy. Drummer Pat Torpey RIP are also phenomenal. Mr. Big did a lot of heavy songs but were mostly known for their ballads. Some one most have been surprised when buying the album after seeing the ballads on MTV
BASS PLAYER = Bill Sheehan. He is the reason I started playing the Bass Guitar back in 1988. You are on a great rabbithole here! His first band; TALAS; had some great tunes. Then he did some time with David Lee Roth. Check out YANKEE ROSE or SKY BOY with him. He then formed MR BIG which is a super band of great musicians. He also has a fun group called WINERY DOGS with Ritchie Kotzen and Mike Portnoy and for your Prog Rock Insanity check out the SONS OF APPOLLO. Billy uses a two neck bass and the guitar player also plays on a two neck guitar!
Glad you finally got back to Mr. Big. Now you also need to get back to Damn Yankees - "Come Again", Extreme - "Get the Funk Out", and Queensryche - "Take Hold of the Flame" (Live in Tokyo 1984). Thanks for all of your great reactions.
I have followed the great Billy Sheehan through the years . His first band Talus, The David lee roth band, Mr. Big and currently in Winery Dogs, My favorite bass player next to Geddy
Mr. Big were blessed with ability to write ballads and bangers. All the players were beyond excellent on their instruments and they all sang vocals, so the choruses sounded extra rich. They had decent success in the U.S., but were superstars in Japan. Sadly, drummer Pat Torpey passed away from Parkinson's diease a few years ago. Mr. Big is actually on their farewell tour as we speak with Nick D'Virgilio of progressive rock groups, Spock's Beard and Big, Big Train, handling the drums. Bassist, Billy Sheehan and guitarist, Paul Gilbert are still active in music. Billy is currently a member of two rock groups I follow: The Winery Dogs, and Sons of Apollo. Both groups also feature amazing drummer, Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater fame, as well. Mike's a prog drumming legend with all the groups and projects he's in currently, as well as the past. Some of the ones I follow are The Neal Morse Band, Transatlantic, Flying Colors and Liquid Tension Experiment. Anyway, thank you for reacting to more Mr. Big. They have much more for you to enjoy.
Bass player is Billy Sheehan and is recognized as one of the best bass players in rock and roll. He was bass player for David Lee Roth for several years. He's been in several other bands including The Winery Dogs. I believe guitarist Paul Gilbert was a guitar teacher. Previously, he was in another band called Racer X. Drummer Pat Torpey died several years ago of Parkinson's disease, rest in peace. Singer, Eric Martin has a great bluesy rock voice.
Love Mr Big, so glad you're doing another reaction for them. Few of their good ones to check out would be Just Take My Heart, Road to Ruin and Green Tinted 60's Mind. Thanks for another great reaction, keep being awesome xxx
This made my Monday morning! Mr. Big is one of my favorite bands and I'm so glad that you got back to them. Eric Martin has one of the best singing voices out there. Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert not only play so well together but are also masters of their instruments. Pat Torpey's drum work was always kickin! I was lucky enough to get second row to see them in concert before Torpey was diagnosed with Parkinsons and has since passed on. They are one of the best bands I've seen in concert. They don't nearly get enough recognition for the amazing talent found in this band.
I'd forgotten that Mr. Big was one of the hair bands of the 80s and they really rocked. However their big claim to fame were their ballads like 'Just Take my Heart' and 'That's Why This Thing Exists.' They also did a pretty good cover of Cat Steven's, 'Wild World.'
"Daddy, Brother, Lover & your Little Boy", Colorado Bulldog, Green Tinted Sixties Mind, Alive & Kickin, Take Cover, Big Love, The Whole World is Gonna Know.......sooooo many great songs by Mr. Big!
When 'to be with you' came out is was all you heard everywhere. I got so sick of it. I didn't want anything do with Mr. Big. And never gave them a chance. Years later I heard a few songs and was kicking myself for not listening earlier. They're an amazing band of great musicians
I remember a few friends who dismissed this band, upon only hearing "To Be With You", thinking they were just soft rock posers. They changed their minds, when I played this song for them.
Billy Sheehan is part of Winery Dogs with Richie Kotzen(Mr Big's guitarist in the later years) and Mike Portnoy. You should check out "Oblivion" from them, or just about any song they do.
Really need to check out their songs "Alive and Kicking", "Green Tinted 60's Mind" and their cover of the Cat Steven song "Wild World" ... All were great songs and singles.
Paul Gilbert is one of the greatest guitar players. Hands down. He teaches as well. Pat Torpey passed away back in 2018. RIP. Eric Martin is the lead singer and is 30 here. Yes they are on their farewell tour 2023/24. They each have solo careers or in other bands. They still got it. That is for sure. Bass player is Billy Sheehan and he formed this band.
Alright my babies....Oh my goodness ‼️ I was privileged to see this band on the Lean Into It tour and I was totally blown away ‼️ Thank you for giving the people what they want ‼️💯🔥🎼🎶🎤🎸🥁🎸🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
Another one of my faves, other great songs of theirs are, Green tinted sixties mind, Take cover, Under tow, Alive and kickin, Stranger in my life, Wind me up, Daddy, Brother, Lover Little boy (the Electric drill song). Awesome songs 😎🎸🎵👌
You must check out another one of their high octane songs........Daddy, Brother, Lover, and Little Boy (The Electric Drill Song)......live version from Tokyo (Vevo)
This was one of my favorite songs from them. Paul Gilbert is one of the early guitar hero shredders of the late 80s. I saw him live solo in the 2000s and was blown away. He's incredible and very funny too. Billy Sheehan is a beast on bass. They were at the same level of skills and shred capabilities, Paul and him. This band is often overlooked but if you grew up in the 80s and you liked guitar a little bit, you knew them and probably liked them. Most people just know the mandatory slow songs they would have to release as singles for their album promo and having radio time but they're a great rock band.
The entire debut album by Mr. Big was a beast! Eric Martin, Billy Sheehan, Steve Vai & Pat Torpey were one of the best line-ups ever put together. Masters of their craft!~
All these guys are awesome on their own, put them together as Mr.Big, it just gets crazy!! This is probably my favorite of theirs but can't go wrong with Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert!!
Had the pleasure of seeing Billy Sheehan play with Steve Vai on Vai's Real Illusions: Reflections tour. This guy is the truth and he's extremely humble in conversation. Met him outside the venue after the show and we chatted about 5mins before Vai came out to sign my guitar. Both are really nice guys.
Thanks for getting back around to these guys. Their talent is immeasurable. You've now heard the two ends of the spectrum with their catalog of songs. They hit all of the points in between as well. Check out 'Green-Tinted Sixties Mind', 'Never Say Never', 'Undertow' and 'Take Cover.' You also need to check out the best of Billy Sheehan's current projects, Winery Dogs. Pick any song!
Billy Sheehan on bass, Paul Gilbert on guitar, the late great Pat Torpey on drums, Eric Martin and his wailin' pipes. Mr. Big was the biggest supergroup of "unknowns" ever. Except everyone in the band was known and respected by their fellow musicians. They should have been well-known for more than one ballad.
I've always loved this song!! Pure heat with extra jalapeños!! 🔥 🔥 🔥 A great one to react to next by Mr. Big: *Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy* Great reactions Jordan and Amber!! ❤ J ... that is Billy Sheehan on the Bass guitar and Paul Gilbert on Lead guitar. @RobSquadReactions
Green Tinted Sixties Mind is the next song from them.Billy Sheehan was also in the David LeecRoth band and others, too. Billy I met at That Metal Show was a very nice man. Now almost 70. Eric Martin the singerl looks like he hasn't aged but is about 60 right now.
In 83, when I was two years underage to drink, my bandmates and I popped into a divey club for some jugs and stumbled onto a rocking band out of Buffalo called Talas. Then the bass player solo'd. It was this day that I learned the name Billy Sheehan. Well actually, there was no internet yet so it took me a while longer to find his name, but I knew who he was.
OMG!!! finally!!! I have to come back from vacation to find you have done my request!!! This is one of the best duos on guitar in history. Paul and Billy were admired by all the musicians of that era for this album.
Secret weapon drummer/ vocals Pat Torpey was so good. Shredder Mr Paul Gilbert on electric twanger/vocals , the incredible Billy Sheehan bass/vocals is on everyone’s list and of course Eric Martin on lead vocals It’s was so unfair for that much talent in one band.
Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert…..recognises by both bass and guitar players around the world as two of the greatest ever of their art. They are special special musicians
*Mr. Billy Sheehan*: on that Bass!!! He's played with some greats *David Lee Roth , Mr. Big, and Winery Dogs* plus a few solo acts including his own. Another song to check out from *Mr Big* is *Green Tinted Sixties Mind* the guitar work on this one is crazy cool! *Love ❤️ Peace ✌️ and Happiness 😃 Y'all !!!*
I love this song! My favorite from them. I was lucky enough to see them in concert at Shorline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA in the early 90's. They opened for none other than Rush! Just a great show all around!
I still own this vinyl….this band is basically a super group. Guitarist Paul Gilbert from Racer X. Eric Martin is the vocalist, and the late Pat Torpey was the drummer. Billy Shehan on bass, former Tallas and David Lee Roth member.
This was the very first song the world heard from Mr.Big! A Super Group by every means of the definition. Billy Sheehan is probably the most formidable bass extraordinaire the world has ever known. You must hear him in the band The Winery Dogs and their song "Elevate". As for Mr. Big their catalog is deep! So many good songs...where do you start? This song I think, was the high water mark. Green Tinted Sixties Mind was a popular hit back in the eighties. Also check out "Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy", "Wind Me Up"and "Take Cover"
Now you did it! Unleashed the beast that is Mr. Big. Paul Gilbert, Billy Sheehan, Eric Martin and Pat Torpey (RIP). A phenomenal band that deserved to do much better than they did. "Wind Me Up," "Merciless," "Had Enough," "Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy (The Electric Drill Song)," "Alive and Kickin','" "Green-Tinted Sixties Mind," and "Colorado Bulldog," are all bangers.
Give Billy some love! Billy Sheehan is the best bassist in rock and roll even right now. He is now with a band called The Winery Dogs with an amazing drummer named Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater, and Richie Kotzen who is a wonderful blues guitarist. Billy also was the basist when David Lee Roth went solo from Van Halen. He is one of the premier basists in rock and roll. Listen to his style he plays the bass like a guitar. Freaking amazing and I love him! Also if you ever ask him anything on his Facebook page, he actually responds to you. Him and I have had a few conversations online through the years and he's a great guy.
I just heard on the radio an awesome song by an artist you absolutely love but somehow missed this song. How about doing Billy Squier "Don't Say You Love Me"? Just like the other songs, you guys won't be disappointed.
I was in the middle of watching something else when i saw this was posted and stopped immediately to watch this. Didnt even watch it yet, had to post first because i was so excited!! Eric Martin is up there with one of the best voices of the genre. And with Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert you have two of the best at their craft. And lets not forget Pat Torpey on drums. I still listen to the first 2 albums....the entire album because there's not a bad song. Right up Amber's alley will be "Green Tinted 60s Mind" and for some rocking tunes "Alive and Kicking". Now, i will watch it 😂
Saw these guys open for Rush in 1990, succch a good band live! All these guys are fantastic and have gone onto tons of other projects. Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert are just great together.
Friggin' Billy! Jay, as an aspiring bass player, you should do a deep dive on Mr. Sheehan. I've been a fan of his since 1981 and the things he does with that bass are out of this world.
Lots of people must have mentioned it already, but Billy Sheehan is one of THE most legendary bassists of all time. He is, in fact, the first bass hero, as in the same as a guitar hero but on bass (at least in rock, jazz had a few before). He also wrote this song, that was originally recorded by his previous band Talas that for some reason never caught on even though they kind of did what Van Halen did at the time. Eddie and Billy were in fact great friends and in the early 80s Eddie asked Billy to join Van Halen, but Billy refused because in his mind the only possible bassist for Van Halen was Michael Anthony. Billy did however later join David Lee Roth's solo band, in its first and most classic lineup that also feature Billy's lifelong friend Steve Vai on guitar. In fact, EVERY member of Mr Big was a super experienced, highly sought after musician. Singer Eric Martin especially was previously a not unsuccessful solo artist, and approached to join bands as legendary and diverse as Toto, Rainbow, Wishbone Ash and - you guessed it - Van Halen.
Thank you!!! I saw mr. Big at Wembley arena in the 90s supporting Aerosmith, totally amazing. You should also watch a live performance of The Drill Song where the guitars are played with real drills!
Mr. Big debuted in 1989 and had all the potential to be a massive rock band - Eric Martin on vocals... the shredding talent of Paul Gilbert (guitar) who was in a speed metal band Racer X... veteran bassist Billy Sheehan, formerly of Talas and David Lee Roth (Van Halen) solo band... and (the late) Pat Torpey (drums)... They became huge for the ballad in 1991 - 'To be with you'... and were huge in Japan in the 90's even after grunge rock took over. Their 1993 cover of 'Wild world' (by Cat Stevens) from the 3rd album 'Bump ahead' was another hit. By coincidence, Mr. Big were also Rush fans... and they did open for Rush in 1990 ('Addicted to that Rush' indeed!) Later albums ('Hey man' in 1996... and then, 'Get over it' in 1999... 'Actual size' in 2001 w/ Richie Kotzen on guitar) were considered rather 'soft' and led to the band's breakup after '01... Mr. Big did reunite w/ guitarist Paul Gilbert rejoining in 2010... However, drummer Pat Torpey was afflicted w/ parkinson's disease and eventually passed away in 2018. Mr. Big announced plans to return w/ new music shortly... Some of the memorable songs by Mr. Big - 'Had enough' ... 'Green tinted sixties mind' ... 'Wind me up' ... "Alive and kickin' " ... 'Take cover'🤘🔥
Billy Sheen on bass, Paul Gilbert on guitar. 2 of the best.
It's Billy Sheehan. You are right though, two of the best
I first learned about Paul Gilbert when he was with Racer X.
The late and very great Pat Torpey on drums - one of my BIGGEST inspirations! FABULOUS CHOICE FOR THIS MONDAY MORNING!!
Billy Sheehan is a bass god
Billy Sheehan is on that bass. One of the best EVER!
Amazing bass player. Love his work with The Winery Dogs
I was thinking the same thing about Billy. He is phenomenal!
He's the EVH of the bass guitar.
If you love Billy, go all the way back to his band Talas. I'd recommend the songs High Speed on Ice and Hick Town. Awesome band!!
Amen to that
I feel that "Green Tinted Sixties Mind" might be Mr. Big's best song that not a lot of people know about. Also, Paul Gilbert is a MONSTER on guitar!
That’s always been my favorite Mr Big song
That is a great song!
Love it. My favorite too by them. Thanks for suggesting it to Jay and Amber. Hope they check it out.

Yes, Just take my heart is a good song of theirs. I just recently came across Eric Martin's solo work too.
Got to see them live on their first tour and they were very high octane and sounded just like what you heard❤😊❤
Green Tinted Sixties Mind by Mr. Big - this is too awesome guys!
Paul and Billy both powerhouses! I interviewed Eric a long time ago ... very cool and funny guy.
4 genios juntos! increíbles Mr. Big 😍😍❤️❤️🔥🔥🎤🎸
Their version of Wild World is outstanding! You guys would love it!
They did a fantastic cover...it sounds so good.
The entire debut album by Mr. Big was a beast! Eric Martin, Billy Sheehan, Steve Vai & Pat Torpey were one of the best line-ups ever put together. Masters of their craft!~
Guitarist is Paul Gilbert not Steve Vai.
Been a long time, I completely forgot, thanks for the correction.@@markbro4427
A great one to react to next by Mr. Big: *Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy*
Great reactions Jordan and Amber!! ❤ J ... that is Billy Sheehan on the Bass guitar and Paul Gilbert on Lead guitar.
Billy Sheehan also played with David Lee Roth on his solo stuff. Super talented. Every member of this band is stellar
Paul Gilbert ( guitarist) and Billy Shehann (Bassist) both monster musician virtuoso's. 🤘
Woo! Jay gets to see Billy Sheehan show-off a little. Thanks for checking it out!
Virtuoso Guitar God Paul Gilbert. Virtuoso Bass God Billy Sheehan. Check out Paul's solo instrumental music.
I not only saw them live, but them opening for RUSH! What a great show for a high-schooler (at the time)! Heh 😁
Bassist Billy Sheehan is one of the GOATs!
I love this song! My favorite from them. I was lucky enough to see them in concert at Shorline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA in the early 90's. They opened for none other than Rush! Just a great show all around!
Green tinted sixties mind is another great song..oh yeah they play great in live too, just better than studio..
Heck yeah!! Green Tinted Sixties Mind is an awesome song!
The guitar and bass together
I still own this vinyl….this band is basically a super group. Guitarist Paul Gilbert from Racer X. Eric Martin is the vocalist, and the late Pat Torpey was the drummer. Billy Shehan on bass, former Tallas and David Lee Roth member.
Great rocker. If you liked that, you'll Love "Poison Ivy" by Faster Pussycat (A kick-butt 80's band you've yet to react to).
That's probably my favorite Billy Squire song, although he has so many great ones.
It's spelled Billy Squier. Just sayibg.
@@erikthompson619 No worries. In too much of a hurry when typing that.
@@erikthompson619 - it's spelled saying, BTW
Eric mart one of the most underrated blues singers in rock. More Mr. Big please.
I want to advocate for "Stay Together" as a deep cut. Really REALLY great Mr. Big Song that only released in Japan, I think.
That was Billy Sheehan, one of the World's Top Bass Players
this was the Mr. Big era i loved....Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan were amazing....R.I.P Pat Torpey
Seen Billy Sheehan twice. The first time was with David Lee Roth. First time I ever seen a long bass solo and he kicked a--
I had forgotten about this one! Some of these songs sound much better now when listened through your ears!
Saw their 1st concert. Was in Albuquerque. Had to sit through Winger to hear Sheehan on bass...
Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan are absolute monsters
, but you HAVE to do Green Tinted Sixties Mind. Their best song.
Friggin' Billy! Jay, as an aspiring bass player, you should do a deep dive on Mr. Sheehan. I've been a fan of his since 1981 and the things he does with that bass are out of this world.
Good Hard Rockin'! :) Great Choice & Reaction, You Guys!
One of the All-Time GREAT Bands that few know about!
you have so many good ones!! Strike like lightning, Undertow, Had enough, Big love, Just take my heart those are my favorites for sure
Big were also Rush fans... and they did open for Rush in 1990 ('Addicted to that Rush' indeed!)
Later albums ('Hey man' in 1996... and then, 'Get over it' in 1999...
