Brian May admitted in an interview that Nuno's solo for this gem made Brian realize how incredibly talented Nuno is. There's really nothing that Nuno can't do. I bought this album right when it came out, have jammed to it through all of these years and I'm still utterly amazed by him.
Oh, it's one of his best! Six is such a good album. It's on my roadtrip stack in the 10CD changer/tape deck in my truck....Yes...I recorded it on cassette....I'm old and it sounds better. 😁
This is my favorite song from Extreme. I love it and loved the reaction, thanks! Nuno (lead guitar) is the one that blows me away with his technical ability in this group but Gary's hips are a close second. I was introduced to this band through Queen. Extreme are huge Queen fans! They performed a set with bunch of Queen songs as tribute to Queen during the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert which is when I first became aware of them. You should check it out. It's a nice tribute. Extreme is still touring today.
That Queen medley they did is still one of my favorite Extreme performances. I was a fan before that so I knew they were amazing, but that performance still blew me away!
From my hometown of Boston. Saw them many times before their debut was released fall 87. They were absolutely killing it in the clubs! There new slbum is up for a grammy and honestly hands down their best.
Their Queen medley was the best part of the concert for me. The other day groups did one Queen song and then 2-3 of their own. Extreme did 13min+ of high energy medley, then "Love of My Life" then "More than Words". They got more audience engagement than anyone else. The only thing that came close was "Somebody To Love" at night, when the audience did the 6note drop.
If i had a nickel for every time ive listened to this song, i could retire. Most versatile band on the planet. My absolute favorite band ever Saw them in concert in 2022.. crazy amazing live...
Very much an underrated band. They've sold 10 million records and a lot of people don't know any of their stuff. Their second biggest hit is another "ballad" called Hole Hearted which DEFINITELY needs a reaction. Other great songs are Kid Ego, Decadence Dance, Rest in Peace, and Stop the World. Loved you're reaction to this one. Would love to see more.
Awesome!!! Great band. Really happy to see you checking them out! They have a lot of good tunes; what a fun ride! Edit: the live version of this song that is attached to commentary by Sir Brian May (Queen's guitar player) is highly recommended!
Both songs are from the album Pornograffiti. Absolutely get a copy, definitely listen to it! It blew the socks off 1990 and is still an absolute classic! 😁

As a VH super fan I would have loved to see the band do one more album, I really think it would have been a good one. I guess we will never know.

I highly suggest Bad Boys Don't Cry off their 1st album as well as Holehearted , Decadence Dance, Pornograffitti, When I'm President and Money( In God We Trust) off of Extreme 2: Pornograffitti, this album was huge for them. "Decadence Dance" off this album is a banger. Their first song to gather much attention is "Mutha (Don't wanna go to School Today)" off their first album.

YOU GUYS. Danger Danger and Extreme in the same week???? You really love me. My two favorite metal bands, THANK YOU!!! I haven’t watched yet but I’m assuming you loved it because this song is so amazing. 🎉
Nuno Bettencourt is one of the all time guitar gods. Some recommendations: "Rest In Peace", "Rise" (from the new album), and "Midnight Express" (for one of the best acoustic instrumentals ever).
And this is why their album with "More Than Words" on it was the most returned album of all time back in the day. So many moms went out to buy it after hearing More Than Words and then there was much horror and pearl clutching when they heard Extreme's usual music! 🤣
I remember standing in Odyssey Records in Vegas (God I miss record stores) one night watching a 50ish lady picking up a copy of the cd.... And thinking to myself, Lord, she is going to have the shock of her life when she dives into the album. I actually thought about giving her a heads up, but decided; 'you know what, the band earned that sale by putting out a huge hit, far be it from me to take that away from them".
Extreme is awesome! Surprised you didn't get blown away by that solo, Nuno is one of the greatest living guitar players! They have a new album out this year called simply SIX (6th album), and singles so far have been great: Rise, Banshee, Rebel, and Over the Rainbow. In particular the solo on Rise had all the guitar channels on here a buzz with how amazing it was, you should check it out. You do modern songs too, I've seen your Metallica reactions.
Finally!!!! Been waiting so long. Told you. Horns. Metal. Guitar solo that even Queen's Brian May was astounded by. What more could you want? (They have lots of other rockers.... Check them out.)
Glad you are back to checking out Extreme. There's a video out there where they let a young girl get up on stage and play bass on "Get the Funk Out." You should check that out. Also, if you want some crazy bass playing, check out Primus - My Name Is Mud (Live Heineken Open'er Festival 2011). They are interesting to say the least and the bass work is insane.
Nuno Bettencourt is not only a helluva guitarist, he writes and composes, too. He's co-written and/or played on music with Janet Jackson, Robert Palmer, Toni Braxton, Rihanna, Dweezil Zappa, Joe Jonas, and more.
Hi RSR I just came across your channel today and absolutely loved it, your reactions to Extreme and Faith No More in particular absolutely filled my heart with joy! I’ve been a fan of theirs since the early 90’s. Keep doing what you are doing ❤️
I was about 15 when this came out. I started learning the guitar at 16. I got a LOT of guitar magazines, with interviews etc. One of the most profound quotes I remember is from Nuno Bettencourt. "You need to know when NOT to play". Guitarists LOVE making noise, but Nuno's affect on the tune is nothing short of amazing. He drops in and out of the song. When he comes in he REALLY comes in. He's got another couple of signature techniques, like his pinch harmonics (the squeals). That's a whole other level of technicality. It requires that you hit the string at the EXACT point, at the EXACT angle, which varies depending on which note you're playing, on which string, and what that string is tuned to. He sprinkles pinch harmonics in all over the place. All of this is obvious to non-musicians, but an aspect of Nuno that's often under-appreciated, is that he's a PHENOMENAL rhythm player. He has atomic timing. His rhythm timing is a masterclass. Everyone thinks of Nuno, in terms of his riffs and solos, but his chord work is INCREDIBLE. I'd recommend an instrumental called Midnight Express from their 4th album as a Nuno "cover this" tune. Every highly skilled band has the odd tune that's so complex, so intricate, so "impossible" for anyone who's NOT the OG artist. It's a song for OTHER bands "think you're good huh? Cover this!" Midnight Express is a very obvious Extreme "FU" tune. The complexity, and the sheer speed of the tune is incredible. It's like trying to build train tracks ahead of a speeding train, where there's NO room for error, and everything happens at breakneck speed.........and Nuno NAILS it.
True story: my sophomore year in high school there was some seniors that had a local cover band. The drummer's dad was the HS band director. One day the principal let them set up on the front steps during lunch and play a few songs. This was one of the songs they played. Before they started they stressed that the song was "Get the FUNK out... not that other word" 😂
Another fab track. So glad you are exploring their range. Their new release HURRICANE is absolutely stunning - in the same vein as More Than Words but I love their funkier stuff too - HOLE HEARTED I would class as somewhere in between the two ;-)
I played this album over and over. Nuno’s playing speaks for itself. He actually went on to play in Rihanna’s touring band for over 10 years. There’s plenty of videos of him playing with her out there.
You just experienced "rock- jazz -funk-metal" stay in the groove if you want more, they HAVE IT! The 15-20th time you listen through without a video you will BEGIN to hear how talented this band really is!
I listened to this song for the.first time with my brother who is no longer with us. We had to listen to it every time we got together. Thank you so much. You are wonderful people and you make me smile too.
From my hometown of Boston. Saw them many times before their debut was released fall 87. They were absolutely killing it in the clubs! There new slbum is up for a grammy and honestly hands down their best. Check Banshee!!
Brian May said that Nuno Bettencourt solo in this song is literally one of the greatest of all time. I saw these guys live in my hometown in Brantford Ontario when they were first starting out At the Sanderson Center And it was f****** amazing I was fourth row from the front I can't even explain how It was and now I've been a lead singer for over 25 plus years It literally changed my life I learned so much On how to perform on stage from Gary Cherone
I LOVE that people are discovering Extreme!! So underrated, Gary Cherone got a bad rap with that Van Halen gig, he is incredible, and Nuno Bettencourt is one of the greatest living guitarists going today!
I really wish you guys would do more of this band. They had so many great hits. Their music is so right up your alley too. Honestly, just watch any Extreme video. They are all amazing. I don’t even have to give you any particular titles because any song you pick is gonna be great.
@@wanghotangho5803 I used to see them in the clubs in Boston. Nuno's rhythm playing is criminally unsung. Most people are fascinated with guitar solos but Nuno had what most guitar heroes don't have: groove.
This was '90 and they just released a new album earlier this year. As always, Extreme has the variety, check out "Rise" for the guitar, "Other Side of the Rainbow" for something more laid back and pop-ish. "#Rebel" and "Banshee" are somewhere in between. Amazing they can rock now as hard as they did 30+ years ago.
This made me smile. I love this band!! I saw them in Cleveland back in '89 just before this album came out. Kid Ego from their first album is great, we all know that guy, lol. But, to go along with your other channel, when you finally watch Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Extreme's song Play With Me is the song played during the mall scene. The song is a very complicated one to sing and Gary sang it hanging upside down from a pipe that was over the stage. They are amazing live!!! The drummer, Paul Geary played a solo that gave most of us a leg cramp. Nuno does a solo he calls Flight of the Wounded Bumble Bee. Pat Baker, the bassist ❤❤❤. This was one of my favorite bands from the 80's. They are well rounded and all are equally talented. It's a shame they were found so late.
Only ever saw Extreme once, at Wembley Stadium supporting Bryan Adams in 1992 but had the pleasure of seeing Roger Daltry, the Whos lead singer, perform several tracks with them, and this was one of them. Nuno is recognised by his peers as one of the best guitarists of all time.
Without a doubt, one of the best bands from the late 80s, early 90s. They were lumped in with the rest of the "hair bands" but were soooo much more than that! One of my favorite bands of all time.
I love that you guys took another song from Extreme... they have a lot of amazing songs. I know you would like to hear the performance they did at the Freddie Mercury tribute... they played a mix of several Queen songs. Thank you... I love you from Spain.
Yay! Nuno Bettencourt, Gary Cherone (wonderful voice!) and Extreme!!! Outstanding! Nuno is considered to be one of the greatest guitarists (by his peers and those in the know) of all time. For those of you Nuno fan boys and girls (or even if you have no idea who he is do yourself a favour), check out the Rick Beato UA-cam channel’s interview with Nuno. Rick interviewed Nuno shortly after Extreme’s song “Rise” came out. The interview is extensive, going into Nuno’s development as a guitarist, how he learnt to play and guitarists he admires end emulate (although he has developed his own very unique style). He talks about his conception of being an artist and a performer, and his approaches to playing the guitar. His devotion to his art, his character and charisma, and the sheer joy and enthusiasm he exude is quite something. Rick Beato (professional multi-instrumentalist and music producer) also has a shorter video which sets up the longer interview by talking about the buzz and anticipation in the music world when word got out about Nuno’s guitar work in “Rise”. Watch the shorter video first: Rick builds up the anticipation of how he heard about and then heard this song. He was blown away, recognising the virtuosity and having to admit that he (as a guitarist) could never come anywhere near what Nuno is doing. Both videos are fascinating and engaging, listening to to professionals get lost in the discussion of the craft. I have to admit, I fell a little in love with Nuno and rushed to listen to “Rise’, more Extreme and more of his other work.
You couldn't have expressed what I thought better. I subscribed to Rick Beato's channel right before he featured Nuno and "Rise" on it. But it was Rick's interview with Nuno that sent me to the "Rise" video and I was immediately mesmerized by his playing and went and searched for all things Nuno and Extreme. I'm still checking out Extreme's back catalogue and Nuno's projects outside it. The funny thing that happened in my search was that Nuno turned out to be that hot gorgeous guy with the long black hair that I remembered back in the day. I didn't connect him with Extreme or "More Than Words:" I highly recommend the interview. Nuno is captivating, passionate and funny. And I learned a lot. I had no idea the level of influence Eddie Van Halen had until Nuno said "Edward" as he calls him, changed the game for guitar playing for his generation. His reverence for Eddie is really sweet. Hope Jay and Amber watch this interview. And while they're there they should check out Rick's interview with Sting, who I know they love.
Finally!!! Been waiting long for this one. Nuno Bettencourt shreds on guitar. Check out “Hole Hearted” next.

Over 30 years later & I still know every word...
Then again, I haven't stopped listening to this song lol
Awesome song! An absolute must for your next Extreme song is 'Hole Hearted'.
Nuno Battencourt is a real beast of a guitarist!!! \m/
Easy on the eyes to
Jay...if you want an awesome bass solo, you have to do momentary lapse of reason/ pink floyd LIVE. Its incredible
"Do you want to play with me?" is another fun song from them. They're high quality musicians and high class fun partakers. ROCKANDROLL!!!!
It was worth the wait to see your reaction to Nuno's solo. The guy absolutely SHREDS.
I`m glad you checked this out, Extreme are a very versatile band
One of the all time guitar masterpiece albums. Every second of guitarwork is nothing short of amazing.
What a band .. criminally underrated they have it all
Great reaction 👏
Nuno's guitar is awesome 👏
Next one... Rise👍
Be well ❤
A newish song from Extreme is Rise. Nuno performs once of the most amazing guitar solos of recent times, really worth a reaction.
This is such a feel good song for me, glad you two got to experience it too. :) :D
Hole Hearted
This would make 3 levels of Extreme!
Yes!! I've requested this so many times! I knew you'd love it!! 🤘😎
Extreme was my first concert when I was 15yrs old back in the 80's. Nuno is a GOD!!
Welcome to the rock band, Extreme! 😁
A couple other rockers from them are Decadence Dance, and Rest in Peace.
I listened to this song for the.first time with my brother who is no longer with us. We had to listen to it every time we got together. Thank you so much. You are wonderful people and you make me smile too.
Watching, Waiting is another one of Extremes song's worth a listen. Great band.
Extreme is fantastic and Nuno is phenomenal. Gary Cherone was part of Van Halen and recorded 1 album.
My favorite guitarist, love that band...going to see them next year in concert
This is one of my favourite rock songs of ALL time. So glad you loved it.
I wonder how many times they slipped on "funk" while taping!!! 🤣🤣🎶🎼🎵🎸🎤🥁🎧🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
Definitely do more Extreme!!!
"Play With me", "Kid Ego", "Mutha, don't wanna go to school today", "Flesh and Blood". To name a few!
🤘😎
Can't forget "little girls"
This is one of the all-time best rhythm guitar tracks, Nuno is simply on fire near the end.
I believe funk metal master Pat Travers plays the rhythm guitar on this song.
@@cbh440 Apparently Pat Travers sang backup vocals on it.
His rhythm playing I’m equally fascinated with as a guitarist
@@wanghotangho5803 I used to see them in the clubs in Boston. Nuno's rhythm playing is criminally unsung. Most people are fascinated with guitar solos but Nuno had what most guitar heroes don't have: groove.
Yes!! Finally, you’ve dove in the true realms of rock!! Absolute Gods of Rock!! Extreme forever. !!
"RISE" The new song that says it all.
Please react to this phantastic song. Will blow you away.
I just saw the Extreme live last night in Orlando. I will tell you that they have thee best front man in music today!
The solo on this is Brian Mays favorite solo of all time. There’s a you tube video of him talking about it
The guitar solo on their "Play with me" is legendary. The whole sing is great but that solo....damn!
Nuno is such a phenomenal guitarist. The was incredible then and is still every bit of amazing these days.
Hurray! I thought I was going to have to fly over from Portugal and make you watch this in person! Thanks, guys!
OMG me and my friends would blast this and sing at the top of our lungs in the car just cruising around. Still love it!
Wow. This is a flashback. I loved everything about this band back in the day, and low key crushed on Nuno.
Singer Gary Cherone was with Van Halen for a minute. Guitarist Nuno Bettencourt is awesome. "Play with me" should be the next one.
They worked with a horn section called "The Badass Brass," and it works SO well for this song!
I didn't connect him with Extreme or "More Than Words:"
I highly recommend the interview.
