Having a "Top 40 hit" was essential in the 80s for these bands to get their albums made, and the power ballad was how a hard-rocking band could be assured to get their music played on pop and adult contemporary stations. Eventually it led to bands who were only known for their power ballads (Extreme is a great example; "More Than Words" was the only song of theirs that even got noticed, but the rest of their album was way more metal than most hair bands and got almost no airplay even on rock stations. When they broke up, their lead singer became the third lead singer for Van Halen)

Don't get me wrong, I don't have nothing against Nirvana but I really love the vocal skills and the wide range so I would like to have more bands with such crazy good vocalists like Sebastian.
Sebastian Bach is one of the greatest singers of his generation. His talent as a front man and his incomparable voice got him to perform on Broadway in the title role in Jekyll & Hyde and in The Rocky Horror Show. Now in his 50s, he still has a great voice. I think Amber would also enjoy Quicksand Jesus. Oh... and did I mention he his also Canadian? 😉
Sebastian Bach definitely has one of the most gorgeous voices in rock music….he has the most beautiful scream ever and he was so darn pretty!!! Hairband power ballads have the best love songs!!!!!

Yes, not many could hold a candle to Sebastian Bach in his prime. This track was off their first album, and their second was definitely harder overall. For me, Sebastian's vocal range and power were more impressive on the second album. Check out Wasted Time, Quicksand Jesus, and In a Darkened Room in particular. You won't be disappointed!
Ah, Sebbie Bach: prettier than most women, total bad-ass, absolutely amazing voice. I’ve been in love with him since I was about 7 years old. For another band that had a pretty frontman and were pretty good rockers, try Poison next, Brett Michaels is almost as pretty as Sebastian Bach but they could sure rock out. A lot of great songs there, including Unskinny Bop, Valley of Lost Souls, and of course everybody's requisite ballad, in this case Every Rose Has Its Thorn, and Something To Believe In, one about Vietnam veterans among other things.
Sebastian Bach is hands down one of the greatest hard rock singers of all time. Can give it to you anyway you want, hard rock, ballad, doesn’t matter. Perfection.
I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard this song in my almost-40 years and that high, powerful “I love you” gives me chills every time. Brilliant.
Sebastian used to live about 5 miles or so from where I live. He was a hard partying guy and more than once he'd been thrown out of the local bar in his town. Now he's a rather big guy at around 6'5" or 6'6" so that must have been a sight. If you're looking for another Power Ballad from this time period I'd suggest "Love Song" from Tesla.

Wasted Time is their most epic ballad. His voice is incredible in that tune. But yeah Rob lots of heavy grinding hair metal tunes with Skid Row. Keep digging.
This song is probably the absolute best power ballad to come out of the 80s! The whole time you were talking about him holding a note I kept thinking “wait until the end one!”
I graduated high school in 1990 and I absolutely loved this song. I thought Sebastian Bach was the most beautiful man I had every seen and he also had great hair😂When I heard him sing I would get so emotional that I would get tears in my eyes. What a dork I was! I still think he was beautiful! He had such a unique voice. The talent!!
This is probably my favorite rock ballad of all time, that's why I suggested it. I figured Jordan would love the guitar solo in this one, and I also figured you'd both like the lyrics, but I did not foresee just how much Amber was going to love Sebastian Bach's voice. I'm glad you guys liked it! I don't know any Skid Row to top this one, but another great song I would recommend would be "November Rain" by Guns and Roses.
His voice is/was one of the best. Only people that I know of to ousting him in range was the late Freddy Mercury and Mariah Carey. Only they had a greater octave range than Sebastian Bach.
Best voices in metal of all time Sebastian Bach of Skid Row Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden Ronnie James Dio of Dio/Rainbow/Black Sabbath Geoff Tate of Queensryche Rob Halford of Judas Priest Absolutely stellar talent in all of these guys. Operatic style talent power and control. Amazing!!!!!!!
I love this song so much. I feel like power ballads get teased a bit as a genre, but seriously, can anyone listen to this song and not appreciate how beautiful and complex it is. Sebastian Bach’s vocals alone are just stunning. Plus he’s beautiful 😍 that hair! I had such a crush on him when I was a kid 😁
Wait until you hear Wasted Time. It's about his friends drug addiction Steven Adler which was the drummer for Guns and Roses. They kicked him out of the band because the addiction was that bad. The vocals really show how much the singer loved his friend.
That's song hits almost every emotion. And brings back really good & bad memories. But I absolutely love watching you both discover it. The band was amazing but I'm glad you both noted how amazing (and under rated) his voice is. 👍
Every year, on our anniversary, my husband requests this song with a shoutout to me. After 31 yrs together it’s still our song… just like the song says “We’ve had our share of hard times. But that’s the price we paid. And through it all we kept the promise that we made. I swear you’ll never be lonely”
Sabastian Bach is such a talent. I love Skid Row! Journey “ Faithfully “ is AMAZING and “ I’ll be alright with out you” anyone actually. Also Bad English “ When I see you smile”!
From about 84 to 90 there were hard rock bands who could rock out but do a power ballad as well. If there's a ton of hair...these were the hair band sub genre. If Amber watched Gilmore girls, the singer also played in a band in their supposedly.
Most rock bands from the 80’s were referred to as “hair bands”, obviously because of all the long hair. Just about every one of them put out at least one love ballad.
When you listen to this after the bridge you have to realize the vocal skill of Sebatian Bach coming in on the arpeggio of the guitar and how well l he matches it up, One of my favs! Such talent
My husband says since Amber love the sax(my husband cringed when you called it a horn it's a wood wind). But he says you need to listen to do Quarter flash harden my heart for female Friday ..hes says Amber will love it
All the rockers in the 80s would make a great love song, and each one was better than the last. This was one of my favorites, his voice just brings me back. 💙
When I first heard this song it reminded me of a man calling our his heart and his lover taking his breath away. The song elevates taking your breath away too. Perfectly written song. Sang by a master vocalist.
I love watching you folks listen to this and enjoy it so much. This is me and my wife’s song. Singer Sebastian was a troubled young guy, blessed with so much talent but by all accounts was a bar room brawler. Who would think a guy that pretty was mean as a junkyard dog but hey go figure. God bless y’all. Loved this
I love how Jay just got lost in that guitar solo, SO damn good Skid Row is another group I grew up on. Other songs to check out include Youth Gone Wild, Monkey Business, Slave to the Grind. Love these guys :)
sebastian bach has such an amazing voice. And is an amazing guitar player. When they brought him in to join lanes band on Gilmore girls, it was so much fun watching him play
He's got beautiful hair and a gorgeous voice. A friend of mine knows him for many years. He's done Broadway and was on the Gilmore Girls. The guitarist in this band was the original guitarist for Bon Jovi. So Bon Jovi helped them after they made it first.
If it's unbelievable vocals you want, Steelhearts 'I'll never let you go' cannot be topped! Absolute jaw dropping vocals like you've never heard. Be warned! Outstanding!
Yeah I’ll get behind Steelheart as well. I’ll Never Let You Go is an amazing song that never really got the credit it deserves. Miljenko Matijevic is another singer with spectacular pipes!
A good cover is by Moriah Formica. She was on the Voice a few years ago. She and her band, Plush is awesome. Think along the lines of a young Ann Wilson. I believe they are supposed to open for both Halestorm and Pretty Reckless pretty soon .
Skid Row was my Brother's favorite band back in the 80s. He's passed away now but every time I hear this song I think of him and the great times we all had growing up in the 70s and 80s
Power Ballads in the 80's we're like a genre unto themselves. Nothing like it and I can't really say that there's been anything since that compares
80's girl here and I completely agree!! Power Ballads were the greatest!!
I totally agree with you. We middle aged folks had the most variety of music if any generation.
Power ballads got the girls to the concert
Having a "Top 40 hit" was essential in the 80s for these bands to get their albums made, and the power ballad was how a hard-rocking band could be assured to get their music played on pop and adult contemporary stations. Bands would release a hard rock song first, then a power ballad, and then a rocker

I still wanna marry him 💕
That scream !!!!!!!!!! That scream came out right from his heart and rips my heart apart ! Damn! how could he managed to do it !!!!
This type of song is called a “power ballad”. When hard rock/heavy metal/hair bands want a softer song
Ha, yup. The formula back then for the “hair bands” was to release a rock song as the first single and then a power ballad for the second.
I was going to say the same thing. the 80s were full of rock bands and power ballads. In some cases they kind of killed a bands momentum but now and then they were really good.
Love 80’s Power Ballads. Love 80’s music period! 70’s & 80’s we’re the best music decades hands down!

Their best song for sure
quicksand jesus is up there too...
This is one of my fav rock ballads.....so beautiful.
Amber will fall in love with Steelhearts singers voice. Millie is one of the best power ballad singers. Try She's Gone or I'll Never Let You Go. 💙💜
Steelheart
THe live version of I'll Never Let You Go is incredible!
@@jimgeorge9476 100% Agreed! Unbelievable performance 💙
Oh yes!
His voice is/was one of the best. Only people that I know of to ousting him in range was the late Freddy Mercury and Mariah Carey. Only they had a greater octave range than Sebastian Bach.
Enjoy Bach's voice... definitely one of the best rock voices ever
Best voices in metal of all time
Sebastian Bach of Skid Row
Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden
Ronnie James Dio of Dio/Rainbow/Black Sabbath
Geoff Tate of Queensryche
Rob Halford of Judas Priest
Absolutely stellar talent in all of these guys.
Huey Lewis And The News - I Want A New Drug (FUNNY VIDEO)
Huey Lewis scored a perfect 800 on his math SATs
Thats great to read that!
Please do some Tesla " Modern day Cowboy" "Love song" Signs" just a few.
"Signs" is a cover, but it's a great one.
Tesla is a great band.
Little Suzi is one of my favorites. Such a great band!
For real!!!!
YES!!!! Tesla “What You Give”
Skid Row was a hard rock group and this is one of their ballads “soft slow song”.. every hard rock group sings one from time to time, even still today
When you listen to this after the bridge you have to realize the vocal skill of Sebatian Bach coming in on the arpeggio of the guitar and how well l he matches it up, One of my favs! Such talent
Best part of the song!
Now check out Steelheart - I'll Never Let You Go. Dudes voice could break glass. So clean and high. Its another hard rock power ballad
They are a “hair band” this is their ballad. Bach has a such a beautiful voice and is a beautiful man
In a Darkened Room and Wasted Time are both great songs. In a Darkened Room is so sad if you have the vocals, but its POWERFUL.
Skid Row doesn’t get enough recognition. Sebastian is SO talented.
'I Remember You' is one of just a handful of technically PERFECT songs in existence.
If she loves that sound, try Steelheart - I'll Never Let You Go...
No rocker hits higher notes that I've heard!
Absolutely correct. They need to listen to Steelheart I’ll Never Let You Go
I didn't see this comment, and I said the same thing. Steelheart is a favorite of mine
This is definitely one of the better reaction channels.
My husband says since Amber love the sax(my husband cringed when you called it a horn it's a wood wind). But he says you need to listen to do Quarter flash harden my heart for female Friday ..hes says Amber will love it
Always LOVED this song. Such a classic...
I seriously enjoy seeing people discover the music of my youth.
Some other good Skid Row songs are: Sweet Little Sister, Rattlesnake Shake, and Big Guns.
Loved this
one of my favorite power ballads.
Sebastian Bach was extremely good looking.
He has videos as part of the Four Tenors, my fave is "Who wants to live forever"...he's so pretty and has dark hair in the video.
Yes he was!
You guys should really come back and do another Skid Row song. They rock so hard and Sebastian's voice is amazing!!
I love how Jay just got lost in that guitar solo, SO damn good Skid Row is another group I grew up on. Other songs to check out include Youth Gone Wild, Monkey Business, Slave to the Grind. Love these guys :)
I saw Skid Row in 1989 opening for Bon Jovi at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. I still have my concert jersey too
One of my favorites from skid row. I also liked wanted time and 18 and life. Brings back memories.
No one can touch this vocal by Sebastian Bach and the powerful emotions this song creates
Hell yes, made my night. Been patiently waiting for this song to come up with you two. THANK YOU. Enjoy this epic vocal performance by Sebation Bach.
sebastian bach has such an amazing voice. And is an amazing guitar player. When they brought him in to join lanes band on Gilmore girls, it was so much fun watching him play
One of my favorite songs!!! Definitely on my list!
One of my favorite Power Ballads right here!!!!
I think you guys will like: Steelheart - She's Gone unplugged
It is slow enough for Amber and has piano for Jordan!
He's got beautiful hair and a gorgeous voice. A friend of mine knows him for many years. He's done Broadway and was on the Gilmore Girls. The guitarist in this band was the original guitarist for Bon Jovi. So Bon Jovi helped them after they made it first.
Don't forget Trailer Park Boy's lol. Is your friend from Port Perry?
Or maybe Lindsay.
@@stevemchale9775 She's from New Jersey She also worked for Bon Jovi too..Thats how I met her.
@@dana_brooke_27 oh. He's from one of those towns I mentioned in Ontario Canada. I forget which one for sure. I guess that's what Google's for 😊
@@stevemchale9775 Yeah but Skid Row worked out of Tom's River New Jersey He said Skid Row is New Jersey but right now he's living in Los Angeles.
If it's unbelievable vocals you want, Steelhearts 'I'll never let you go' cannot be topped! Absolute jaw dropping vocals like you've never heard. Be warned! Outstanding!
Great choice. Just when you don't think he can go higher, he somehow manages to.
Also, Bang Tango- Just for you
His range is INSANE.BEAUTIFULLY done
Skid Row was my Brother's favorite band back in the 80s. He's passed away now but every time I hear this song I think of him and the great times we all had growing up in the 70s and 80s
For guitar solos.. Eddie Van Halen - Eruption. Life changing
Before the internet.. radio ruled.. Sebastian Bach (BAS) is one of the reasons why.
For Skid Rows harder stuff you need to hear YOUTH GONE WILD , SLAVE TO THE GRIND, or MONKEY BUSINESS
More for Jay, but "Monkey Business" and/or "Youth Gone Wild" and/or "Piece of Me"...top notch bangers
Damn all that hair flying everywhere 😍😍, can’t we go back lol ,
All time favorite power ballad. Wish I grew up back then. This is real music.
