Chat calling you a cheater for not using species clause is cringe. Play however you want, it's a self-imposed challenge run. Great run! You weren't scared to sack your pokemon when you needed to and was generally able to recognize your mistakes, especially in the early game. If you do another one, I encourage you to take the candy pill, it makes downtime so much more bearable imo (though it can sometimes make Johto in particular awkward with level caps in the mid game).
Also it was shiny gyarados so depending on who you are. Shiny clause overrides species clause. But then again species clause only allows you to reroll encounters. You can choose to catch duplicates if you want. Even if you follow the fake rules that Don't matter you'd be fine doing this.
So how I do species clause personally is that I can catch a mon in the same family if i never got it before. So in this case, losing magikarp and getting gya later is literally how I allow myself to do things aha
I mean it's up to the Nuzlocker how they want to do their nuzlocke, I go with my own discretion, so if I've already caught a pokemon and it died, then I come across it again, If I want to catch it I catch it, if I don't want to, I reroll.
For me personally, species clause is forced so you cannot catch dupes at all. Otherwise I'd just use an entire team of Gyarados because it's busted in nuzlockes and you can catch Magikarp everywhere.
7:19 just wanted to mention that even if you couldn't nickname the prize pokemon when you got it, that same city also has the Name Rater at the top left, which allows you to change the nickname of any pokemon you own, so you could instantly go there and give the prize a proper nickname
Are you able to do that with prize mons? There's a feature that if a mon isn't your og pokemon you can't rename it, but idk if prize mons count as someone else's og mon?
Species Clause lets you re-roll encounters of the same species, but you can choose to catch multiple of the same type if you want. ChuckNasty is chilling
Species clause is a clause for a reason, it's an optional addition to the basics of a nuzlocke. And since this is voids first one ever and Dr Charles Nastington the 1st had an early and avoidable demise if he just used rare candies (because also optional), I don't see a problem
WelZy's defeat at the hands of a Team Rocket Grunt was the saddest moment watching live. Void literally was talking about how good WelZy was a few minutes before it happened. o7 Welzy Great video Void, keep it up!
I recommend using the name rater in your next run. If no one in chat told you, it's an npc (usually in a house in a town) that let's you change the nickname of your pokemon so long as they have a matching trainer ID. So the only way you can't rename is from an in game trades. Allows you to diversify your roster or keep a pokemon if you accidentally spam through the give nickname option upon catching something. Regardless, congrats on your first win Mr. World's Best
It was super hype to see you play your first nuzlocke. You played pretty well and i look forward to you playing more nuzlockes. If you do, i encourage you to use level caps, and to "take the rare candy pill" as Pokemon challenges put it
Quick note on the species clause thing? Chat was ALSO wrong about how it's implemented. Species clause means no duplicates of pokemon you've *owned*, specifically. Originally, this was to keep people from ending up with five zubats and three ratata with two pidgeys. It's to let you "redo" first encounters that aren't unique. BUT VOID NEVER HAD A GYARADOS. So like... that's not even relevant! And also, species clause is not a *limitation*. It's an opt-in rule for letting people have *variety*. You have the CHOICE to skip a first encounter with a 'mon you've already owned, is all. It's an *exception* that's meant to be like "shiny clause," to keep people from "missing out." Just as shiny clause is to keep you from needing to kill off shinies, dupes clause (the more descriptive name for 'species clause') is meant to be a way for people to not feel like they're cheated out of getting a "new" encounter. If y'all are gonna be cringe rules lawyers, at least know the actual purpose for those rules, and why they exist to begin with! But anyways, super cool run! Always rad to see the learning experience for different games. Let's go, Void.
Made some really good use of switches to circumvent the drawbacks of the 'no battle items' rule, great thinking on the fly, man. Seeing you learn pivot-switching in real time was pretty sick haha. And YEAHH IMO Clair is SO much more brutal than Whitney is, relative to the part of the game when you fight each of them. Kingdra basically having no weaknesses is SO tough to get around.
Nice run Void! I feel like even though you struggled a bunch, you made a pretty good choice for a game and rules that was challenging for you and made you lose Pokémon, but was still possible for you to complete! There are definitely some games that could’ve made you experience so much worse (Ultra Sun and Moon is infamously ridiculous) That corndog fake out was messed up lol. Love all the Project Moon music dispersed through out too! Super underrated games.
You could've still got a game corner pokemon. The name rater is in Goldenrod, so you can immediately name it. If you ever try to improve on runs or revisit this in the future, biggest tips I can give are start at night (with proper encounter routing, you can get all of Hoothoot, Ratatta, Geodude, Zubat, Bellsprout, and Gastly guaranteed without having to risk Pidgey or Sentret. And Hoothoot is much better than Pidgey just because of the possibility of Insomnia allowing it to ignore Hypnosis RNG against Morty) and delay Union Cave until a Friday when you have Surf so you can get Lapras. Shell Armor Lapras is the only real counter to Clair's Sniper Kingdra, but Water Absorb still helps a ton in playing around her Kingdra if you don't get Shell Armor, but even other than Claire, it's incredibly strong. Thunderbolt access lets it excell against several water types while walling most of them and it naturally does good against Pryce, Brock, Blaine, and Lance. Super consistent overall
Fun fact about selfdestruct The last time I was doing a nuzlocke of SoulSilver I lost Two pokemon to blowing up, the first one was togepi who metronome'd too hard and then geodude who was, attracted to Milktank and still got a crit, what a hero
Void playing Pokémon and it being a nuzlocke is legitimately good content. Fyrus's Nuzlocke on Jacob's channel was an awesome video and this was also funny
Always like watching your content in colabs and tournaments, so I decided to finally click on one of your videos. Very glad I did! The editing and narration is very strong, and your voice is lovely to listen to which is low-key one of the most important things
Corndog had some truly amazing moments, what an unexpected king. Great work on the video and congrats on the run, looked hella tough! Btw I definitely think using the Gyarados was fair, I don't think species clause needs to apply to the dead, especially so when you only had a Magikarp prior that didn't evolve yet
Hey so by the way can we talk about how you used Library of Ruina music. Because it hit me right in my soul. I love that game and it's music. You even use Gebura's theme/the Red Mist for when Chuck goes all Dragon Dance on everyone. And use the finger snap. Hell yeah
The Gyarados is definitely species clause but... shiny clause exists too so it doesn't matter imo lol This video was great, glad this is my first for the channel :D
I don't get people complaining about species clause. There is also something called shiny clause, which allows you to catch the Pokemon regardless if it's shiny. And of course as Void said, Nuzlockes are about having fun.
chat is just whining about species clause cause you didn’t play by the exact same strict nuzlocke rule-set the majority of youtubers play by. a clause, by definition, is an additional ruling; a stipulation. there is no claim that the species clause is necessary to play a nuzlocke. and honestly i’ve seen it most often used to get players out of having to catch duplicates of “bad” pokemon, like a caterpie on the first route and a metapod on the second, because they’re part of the same species. a nuzlocke is meant to be a challenge, not take the fun out of the game (even though for some reason twitch and youtube chats seem to think challenge is synonymous with torture). you broke no rules that you set out, you played the game how you wanted, and you made a great video! let them cry wolf and claim you cheated, because the video was a banger nonetheless. besides, shiny clause trumps species clause :P
Fun fact: Everyone yapping about the species clause should've remembered another clause most people use...the shiny clause. In my own use of it I either say if I already have that species in a non-shiny form I can use the shiny one instead (this is beneficial if the shiny one has a better nature) or if I get a shiny on a route I already caught something, but it isn't a species I already had, I can choose to use it in place of whatever I previously caught on the route. So by those definitions: chucknasty is 100% valid.
Woah, I thought you were Nuzlocking Soul Silver not becoming the Champion in Soul Silver. I was wondering why you were choosing such a long game for your first Nuzlocke, but I guess as long as you had fun and got to the ending you had set for yourself at the beginning? Great gaming, loved this journey.
Want a suggestion for the next gaming challenge? One of the most iconic challenges I know of is to beat Final Fantasy 1 with just a single character. Simply get the rest of your team knocked out before moving on to fight Garland. Especially if you do it with the Thief, who is the absolute weakest class for a solo playthrough.
Note I'm not 100% confident, but I'm pretty sure that this koffing explosion fight is THE ONLY trainer fight in the game (if not in the series) that can explode on you
I’m doing a violet nuzlocke. Thankfully, i have no deaths yet. I currently have saber the sprigatito, deathspinner the tarountula and neurotox the wooper.
I do feel like species clause for Natrual magikarp/gyarados is kinda warranted considering how OP it would be otherwise, but most Nuzlockes have a separate rule that you can use any story Pokémon as long as it's nameable. Either way Nuzlockes rules are all player manually ran, they're not a real thing enforced within the game, and there's so many variations saying any One Rule is absolute is incredibly ludicrous to me.
Brooo this was so good, would be dope to see more content like this from you
Obligatory let's go void (also hi pchal probs)
