Very clear and honest and pedagogical Thank you. I was looking at one today here in Stockholm, I will buy it, stability is the most important to me, I am 180 cm , 105 kg and 73 years old.
With all due respect, you need a small flat bottom boat, not a sit-on-top kayak. SOT kayaks are so stable because they let water in under certain situations. The Sportsman has fixed the seat issue. You can put a lot of plastic tackle boxes in a milk carton in the back. Take care and tight lines.
Very interesting. I bought my 106 PDL a year ago. I don't have the water leak problem around the motor hole that you do. Don't know why. I agree with you about the seat. I velcro taped a memory foam seat cushion to my seat. That helped tremendously! Plus putting two 2x2 short blocks under the rear seat frame improved the tilt of the seat for me. My tackle trays go into a plastic milk crate, which I put in the rear storage area. The only thing I store under the seat is my battery for the fish finder, and a small 5lb anchor. I too, usually stay out on the kayak 8 or more hours each outing. Glad to hear you're still enjoying the kayak, despite the flaws. Remember only our God can make something perfect. 😉
Yeah, the water leading is aggravating and the other modifications seems to work well. I'm going to seal that front area to see if that helps! Maybe we can compare one day! Blessings.
@@outdoorheretic8232 It just occurred to me. At first I didn't like the fact that I have to put both feet on the motor housing and press down hard to engage the motor lock. The same to dis-engage. Maybe that's why mine don't leak very much. I just got used to doing that, and didn't think much about it.
David S definitely will look into that, so far the pad works...Still a fan of Old Town! Thanks for commenting and watching, if you haven’t, please subscribe!
Nelson Mitchell, III thanks for commenting and watching! I’m not sure if my year model doesn’t or I’m unable to figure how to get it off. My predator seat is on good, so maybe I’ll look and see!
There actually seems to be a 106 without the engine hole it’s basically the 120 but wider and longer more stable I’m wondering if it’s worth getting and just upgrading the seat
I bought the predator pdl last year and wouldn’t trade it for nothing. I’m looking for something a little smaller like the 106 or 120.. not sure witch one to go with.
Very good! I’m 260lbs 5’8 and stand up on it easily. I went out one night with my son got totally shitfaced and didn’t fall in once😂 I would definitely recommend it. Great all around kayak.
The topwater is a great kayak. Here are three reasons why I would buy PDL. 1) Great Customer Service 2) 5-year warranty on the PDL drive 3) Lifetime warranty on the hull. you can get any better than that.
OSCALITOS WAYZ Exactly why I bought it! Only thing I’d differ is customer service experience is ok...wouldn’t say Great! Motor still leaks and it is baffling, but heck, maybe it’s such a rarity they don’t know what it is! Don’t forget to subscribe amd thanks for commenting and watching!
Idk what that little rope is under your seat mine doesn't have that but this is the 2nd video I've seen with that attached to the bottom of the seat. I do the same thing as you and have the same tackle boxes i attach my backpack to the seat and throw one box in the front under the seat. That really sucks about your leaking through the pdl drive hole. Mind doesn't have that issue, but i do agree with the seat it is very uncomfortable Ive considered upgrading the seat but it just hasnt been in my budget these days lol.
That-Welder-TJ thanks for watching! Glad to hear your not having the leakage issue...it is starting to be aggravating with it so cold! Thanks again for the info
I was very disappointed with this video. Lots of talk but where's the video showing the problem and then the video of the solution. You may be right but all this is UA-cam -- more video to demonstrate what you're talking about. BTW, I'm an 106MK guy.
@@waynetisue1566 Here you go Wayne, sorry I didn't include them, I assumed you didn't want it: ua-cam.com/video/IqZBJWJbn74/v-deo.html (You can see the water coming in, unfortunately I'm not the only one that has had this problem, but I'm sticking with it), thanks again for the support!
Good video. I have the Sportsman 106 PDL with 2” seat risers. Most stable 10 ft kayak I’ve stood in. I’ve tried them all.
Al Ceja thanks man, I like mine, if I can keep the water from coming in at the motor, I’d be satisfied for a kayak!
Very clear and honest and pedagogical Thank you.

Thanks for the detailed overview. Going with my first old town soon! God bless brother
Wishing you the best of luck!
Appreciate the insight. Definitely helps me to decide. Leaning hard toward the Old Town kayaks.

@@srsykes49 Ha, ha, It is something they told me I needed to do, I get mine locked in, but not easy with my new seal!
Yep, I've got the 120 Auto Pilot and love it. Only drawback is that it's heavy @173 I struggle getting it on and off the water. But it's worth it.
one of the lightest with that much seriousness to it
I think the new 106, now called the Sportsman instead of Topwater, comes with a better seat. It’s more like the seat on the Predator.
David S definitely will look into that, so far the pad works...Still a fan of Old Town! Thanks for commenting and watching, if you haven’t, please subscribe!
Thanks for insight. Will look closer at 120
Geneo Fields thanks for watching, best of luck!
I am not a kayak person, im a little top heavy. This was a great explanation about the pros and cons. Thank you sir
Ha, ha, I know all about that top heavy! LOL
I believe the seat off the Predator fits on the TopWater. As long as you only use one at a time you don't need a upgrade.

I can’t remember the exact name, but if you call OT they will help you

Yes! The bigger the better! Gives you so much more room

My old town 106 sportman haves the same water problem coming in as well😞. I don't know if there's a fix for that.
Watcher hate to hear that for both of us!
I've had a 106 for 2 years now...and I don't have any problems that you have.....

You look like a pretty big (in shape) guy. Like you say, you might need a bigger kayak.
Sure thing, sold it to restore a small boat! Good kayak, but not for me! Thanks for watching
Of you haven’t upgraded to the sportsman you’re miss out 😊

Old town sportsman 106 PDL or Old town Salty 120 for ocean kayaking?
I wouldn’t on the 106! You’ll be drenched!
Get the Salty 120 or The Big Water 132PDL.
Which dealer or company did you buy your kayak from
?
Backcountry online
you can just buy a big box for it
