I think in some states you can choose to stay anonymous when you pick up your winnings. Like they won’t give out your name to the press, etc. but yeah, definitely should be the standard for all lottery winners.

Those who have limited education, mental capacity, and serious handicaps need to be protected. The elderly too, obviously. But they can be very quick. There should be an automatic accountant for large windfalls, insurance, and inheritance. Not many people know how to work with that much money.

When that doesn't work and he refuses, she actually blames her 14 year old son! Her defence basically was that she was attacked by Abraham, with her son present in the room, the boy killed him in his mothers defence, and she gallantly took the blame to spare her child as the investigators were closing in on him. All her circular self-contradicting arguments, while being interrogated, is classic Cluster B stuff tbh. Borderlines tend to feature quite a bit in Mike’s content but they rarely if ever tend to do their own killing. More likely to manipulate someone else to. That retreat into childishness is the closest thing to who they are inside plus all those grim faces she pulls at trial. That’s the secondary psychopath struggling not to get out. The exasperation of the officers is incredible to watch. They are dealing with a person for whom “truth” is totally emotionally dependent. What they _feel_ it should be, irrespective of fact or logic, at any given moment, is what it actually IS to them, with a certainty of every fibre of their being.
Even if she’d pumped six bullets into the guy, with total sobriety and determination, if it constituted emotional trauma to admit the fact, she will and does say she did not, and will believe that “fact,” in that moment, with the same utter certainty you have that the sun will rise in the East tomorrow morning.

Money which was no doubt stolen from that little boy by his father's killer Dee Dee!
She is rotten to the core. I saw a documentary on the case, and will never forget how she killed the totally unsuspecting Abraham, then dragged his lifeless body to that squalid grave and pushed him in, like he was a piece of garbage. And all for money!
If there's one thing I cannot abide it's people who disrespect kind people like Abraham, and interpret their kindness as weakness. Evil Dee Dee is where she belongs - and thank God she's locked away from her innocent 14 year old son, who she actually tried to blame for Abraham's murder. @@KyrieChii You're not wrong about Abraham, everyone who knew him said he was a gentle soul who lived for his little boy Moses. One of the first things he did with his winnings was to set aside $1 million in an investment account for Moses when he came of age. No doubt Dee Dee Moore stole that too. That's another tragic aspect of this horror story - his son will never have his dad in his life, and must forever carry the grief and horror of his cruel murder.
That woman shot a decent man dead, threw his lifeless body into an unmarked grave, then got her ex to use a digger to (unwittingly) throw dirt and finally concrete over him. I remember seeing a documentary on the case. When Abraham's body was found, that witch had laid a heavy concrete slab over it, so no one would see it when the hole was filled in. She's pure evil.
I wonder if Abraham was given the option to have no publicity, as lottery winners can in the UK? That would have reduced the number of scroungers he was plagued by, but sadly he would still have met his killer Dee Dee, as she was the realtor who sold him his house. Extraordinary that one man could experience such freakishly good luck (the lottery win), followed by equally unlikely bad luck (meeting a murderer), all within the space of one year. I pray his son Moses has a much happier life.

@@amp394 Absolutely it does - and forgive me for saying this, but the phrase is actually "The love of money is the root of all evil".
It's a small difference but I think an important one, as money itself has as much power to serve good ends, as evil ones - and Abraham and his loved ones should have had a far better life for that lotto win.
The cause of the tragedy was not the money itself, but shady people's love of it which immediately got him preyed upon, exploited and finally killed. He wasn't destroyed by his millions but by the sub-humans who looked at him and saw not a human being, but a cash machine.
I believe there's a natural justice, and that every one of them who ruthlessly used him for financial gain has a big ugly dose of karma coming their way.

It's especially shocking the money evaporated so fast, when Abraham was not extravagant or self indulgent with his lottery millions. All he did for himself was buy a house and a second hand Rolex watch, and put $1 million in an investment account for his son Moses to have when he came of age.
Most of Abraham's money was actually stolen from him, by fast friends with hard luck stories, and of course the psychopath who murdered him. That poor man had two extraordinary, massively-against-the-odds events happen to him within a short period - his incredible, multi million dollar won, and his assassination.
I don't know how the statistics fall, but the odds against either one of those things happening to someone are huge. The odds against both the lottery win and the murder happening to one person must be way higher. Though of course the two events were closely related.
I think poor Abraham was vulnerable to a great extent due to his incomplete education (he left school at 12 and was barely literate). It made him unworldly with low self esteem, all too easily manipulated by the ruthless con woman who promised to manage his cash - and whose boastful lies he was too unsophisticated to see through. I hope his little boy Moses will get the great education that sadly he did not, and enjoy a far happier life. Among many life lessons, this terrible case reminds us that an education really is a priceless gift.
No doubt Dee Dee Moore also stole Abraham's only child's nest egg from him - while telling police he was a deadbeat dad, who'd fled the country to avoid child support payments! The woman is so despicable, she tried to blame her own, innocent 14-year-old son for Abraham's murder. There's a special place in Hell reserved for sub human scum like her, who prey on the most vulnerable.

Truthfully, I think it should be nationwide to collect your winnings anonymously solely for this purpose. People are greedy and will do anything to befriend someone who has won a lot of money to mooch/use them (or worse, have nefarious purposes and mislead them to somehow inherit the money themselves if an “accident” was to happen or due to how often it has occurred).
If anyone plays the lottery, for the love of God don’t ever brag about it if you do win. Keep it to yourself and close loved ones and don’t draw a bunch of attention to yourself …. because when lump sums of cash are involved, some folks out there are like bloodhounds. As soon they get a whiff of knowing you have money or won it, they’ll come out if the woodworks left and right. They always do. YES MIKE! I've been waiting for you to cover this case and we finally got it. I read the book Unlucky Number and MAN does it give so much detail to this case that was a whirlwind od a series of events. Abraham Shakespeare was a victim of circumstances due to being way too nice and not being good at reading nor writing, and Dee Dee Moore is the MONSTER that capitalized on this and continued to lie and lie until she couldn't do it anymore. Craziest true crime case I've probably ever heard.

Yikes, at the end she was acting like she's smarter than everyone else. Smart people know when to stop. It's almost like she doesn't want to believe there are a lot of people out there smarter than her. When the interviewer tells her those witness statements look like her handwriting, it almost looked like her mind was blown. She couldn't understand how he figured it out.
It's a very toxic mindset to believe everyone else is stupider than you. It just proves how ignorant she is. She has to be super ignorant to believe someone is willing to pretend to be the murderer, spend the rest of their life in jail, for 50k.

Seems that she thought she was smarter than Abraham and sadly, with him being illiterate, it seems she may have been or at least just deceptive and manipulative enough to take advantage of his good nature though it looks like as soon as he found out what she'd done she removed him from the equation and just started living his life completely
Must have been a con artist's dream come true
Thing is she wasn't smarter than the cops or nearly as smart as she thought, clearly. She needed to be a great con artist and then when that failed a great liar and she was neither. She was useless at both and that's why she's in prison.

Sometimes(maybe all the time? I'm not an expert) in felony cases you legitimately cannot enter a plea of guilty. You have to plead not guilty even if you want to plead guilty because of the nature of the case. Also if you plead guilty, your crime can't be altered, you can't remove aggravating factors that increase your sentence etc, so you're stuck with the harshest version of your crime and harshest punishment. So uh... never plead guilty.
