i was there. you can hear me yelling for spank thru at 01:37:05 . one of the best shows i've ever witnessed living in seattle. was super lucky to see so many great shows, mudhoney, tad, soundgarden...but to me, nirvana was always the best-- they had the most depth and the best songs but at the same time they just rocked harder than any of the other bands, not to mention kurts amazing voice. this was the first time i saw them with dave and i remember being blown away, because i'd seen them with chad quite a few times and also the motor sports show with dan, who are both really great, but dave was something else with them. the energy was just so intense. the show was a few days after thanksgiving and it was cold as hell that night but inside the venue was a different story i remember it was like a sauna in there.... the off ramp was really a crappy venue but seemed to get good shows, and the sound could be hit or miss depending on the band. nirvana definitely was the best sounding band i'd seen there. i went to the show with my girlfriend at the time who i abandoned to move up to the front once nirvana was playing. (dont worry she was still with her sister). i remember the guy next to me seemed to light a new joint every other song because they kept getting knocked out of his hands. still regret not buying a tshirt that night.
I can't believe you called out for a song and Kurt actually played it haha. "Spank Thru?" *starts playing the song*
omfg you´re so lucky!
Wow. Thats cool. Kind of like seeing the Beatles at the Cavern or in Munich, just before they exploded. Pre-Nevermind Nirvana. You are an OG fan lol. I guess they were still relatively unknown at this point, so having someone call out your songs must have been flattering. Kurt obviously appreciated it as he launched straight into spank thru after you requested it lol. Did you speak to Kurt or Dave or Krist at all?
legend
The rage of Kurt's voice in their first performance of "Aneurysm", is just awesome. What a great fucking setlist.
amped up experimental dog 🧙🏿♂️
A 23 years old Kurt and so many great songs. Fuckin genius he was.
All popular musicians back then were extremely young. 19/20/21/22. 27 was considered old lol. It was an incredible time for art and music, a literal volcano of creativity.
"On November 25, Nirvana played a show at Seattle's Off Ramp that attracted more A&R representatives than any concert in Northwest history. Representatives from Columbia, Capitol, Slash, RCA, and several other labels were bumping into each other.
.....
The show itself was remarkable - Kurt later told a friend it was his favourite Nirvana performance
.....
"I thought the show was amazing," recalled Kim Thayil of Soundgarden..... "When I heard "Lithium", it stuck in my mind. Ben, our bass player, came up to me and said 'That's the hit. That's a Top 40 hit right there.'"
- Heavier Than Heaven
Thanks for this. I hope there's video footage of this somewhere!
Just read this
I was reading this part right now and come to listen this.
For all the punk ethos posturing, the dudes wanted to get paid and were looking to sign a contract. So they opened the floodgates of their repertoire to impress the bigwigs. I bet Kurt would have busted out “Opinion” solo if he thought it would seal the deal.
LOl the old lyrics to aneurysm are hilarious "I don't like it a single bit" "God damn"
you don't told me, Jesus shit!"
''i don't like it, save a bit!''
I done told you not to spit!
i learned how to write lyrics from those
Holy shit Kurt sounds like a completely different singer here. Honestly it’s my favorite version of his vocals next to everything from 89. Also it’s crazy that Radio Friendly Unit Shifter goes that far back
The best son of a gun performance. Kurt's voice sounds awesome
they had no clue the history they were making holy shit omg
There is a fella on the Classic Albums vh1 doc. Saying that he was watching them play Lithium in town before they left to record the sophomore album, and in the moment realizing how much of a hit it was. Once in bloom lithium heck even about a girl were in the lexicon, maybe some people knew it was history as soon as Dave joined. Idk, I wasn't there.
I recall this concert so well as we were on the floor moshing with the best ! I still have photos of the bruises the next day. This was a group of us Vancouver, B.C.'ers, 12 of us who arrived in Seattle the day before. I had a girlfriend at Western Washington University that we hooked up back, we crashed at her parents place on the shores of Green Lake. Her parents were the coolest, so cool we came back after the show and we awoke the next day to a fully laid on Seattle Breakfast the heartiest I would see until the South Side Deli in Whistler, B.C.
Thank you for this cool memory-lane trip.
what a good memory. so sick u saw the show. would give up a leg to see it
Long shot, but I am looking for people who were there at the Off Ramp. I am writing a novel set in 1990 Seattle which includes this show as part of a scene. Would love to hear more about your night!
best show ever, 2023 almost 2024 re-revisiting HNY 💙
One of the best ever Nirvana shows, at least regarding the set:) I'm actually not quite sure how many different versions I now have of this show, but surely this is the best mix so far. Thanks, RareNirvana!
Tomnedreb yes isn't this the greatest show ever?!?!?!!! 30 song set list!!!!!! If there was one show in the history of Nirvana I would have wanted to be at this would be it. If a video ever surfaces of this show i will just die!!!!!!!😜
I read in "Heavier Than Heaven" that Kurt told a friend that this was his favorite show.
Why are you always here? :D
I was at this show Kurt played about 4 solo songs after the set. Hash after the bash was happening. I will tell this story today.
Awesome
One of their best shows by far. Best set list ever!! Son of a Gun sounds so good!
The best lithium performance I’ve heard. Kurt screaming came straight from the heart it was amazing
Aneurysm. What a great start.
Easily one of the best set lists of Nirvana's short career. So many deep cuts.
This setlist is absolutely insane

Thank you bro. So many first's during this show
1ranjeeves21 This has to be one of our favorite shows!
Favorite of NIRVANA !!! Like and share!!!
Crazy to hear Radio Friendly Unit Shifter at this point in time!
That one two punch of Aneurysm -> Oh the Guilt is absolutely insane. And they knew it too, because they started their next studio session (on New Year’s Day) with the exact same two songs.
This has always been my favorite version of Aneurysm.
WizzleThump agreed!!!!!! And only time they ever played it live with Dave doing backup vocals, was always curious why he stopped singing "beat it beat it!!!" live from then on.
brian Roberts it isn't the only time Dave sang the "beat it"'s, I know for sure he did it when they played in Argentina in 1992
That is NOT Dave singing "beat it". This is evidenced by a lot of his solo works from the time. One thing you'll notice: Dave Grohl didn't seem to learn to scream until he started the Foo Fighters project. And even then, the screams here live sound like Kurt. My guess is he used some kind of pre-recorded effect just for the chorus.
Dave could scream great way before Foo Fighters. Listen to this recently leaked tracked recorded by Dave in 1992 called "Slackers Password": ua-cam.com/video/cQ-lV503zhM/v-deo.html
Ggooooooddd Ddaaaaaammmnnn !!!!!
Kurt always seems to provide the most reasonable product for me to have a visual high. I can imagine my own version of this place, the songs all have their own colors and meanings, they help aid my own philosophy through kurts ambiguous lyrics, and surprise accuracy of emotion.
In this set the song that feels doesnt belong is verse vhorus verse. Probably because it is his selfishness. But i mean nirvana is forever immortal, the only other band to have these colors as a product punk placement is the ramones. But kurt also brought more elements to the saga. He was a clear light. It takes bravery to depart from nirvana. It also takes experience to ever achieve as much . I feel thats why things in this world have gone stale. The very thing thats good for bacteria production are being rinsed out.
Love daves drumming on swap meet
This version of Verse Chorus Verse is the best in my opinion, I had an old bootleg called Rough Tapes and it called the song In His Hands, fell in love with this version of the lyrics from that moment on.
son of a gun is so rad!!! I recommend all of you to check it out
Mr. Moustache sounds DOPE with Dave Grohl on the skins! It's too bad they didn't keep this one in their repertoire.
I don't know why they stopped playing this one
Dave "Machine Gun" Grohl
It's a really goofy riff but I love it 😂
@colinmiller8824 once never mind came out, those songs dominated the setlists.
honestly I'm 14, If I could choose any nirvana setlist. It would be this one. No Teen Spirit, Playing Mr. Moustache and In bloom with many other amazing and lesser known tracks, Perfect!
Im so happy that they cheered for Sifting, Sifting doesn't suck
Son of a gun is the thing i comeback here everytime... Insane and raw!
The set list is unreal. I would cut off at least 3 toes to be at this show. They played songs from every little corner of their discography, and Nevermind wouldn't be recorded for another 6 or 7 months.
why not 4
@@tomu7212 deal

@@tomu7212 show me the time machine first
On the SBD version I have, the intro riff to Aneurysm sounds EXACTLY like the version from the 1/1/91 SLTS b-sides session. Like somebody put the studio intro into the live song. It sounds great
same guitar probably!
And followed right by “Oh The Guilt” in the performance order. Pretty damn awesome.
The best Nirvana show ever.
stellar purveyors of bad-assed pop-grunge
haha
Epic performance of D-7!
OMG watta gig , longest one I've come across by them. Kurt must have been feeling good. D7 , Sappy & Radio Friendly along with the reg tracks ! Thanx you
Oh, thank you so very much for sharing this!!!
Justmiss jamey i see you on nearly video lol
of nirvana
D-7 is awesome....
we need this on 2024
Damn this playlist is good Krist is fucking hilarious.
Verse Chorus Verse, incroyable bootleg legend song.
The perfect setliist. A lot of first performances too. I can just hear the crowd sitting here.
His voice was AMAZING in this show
never seen any pics from this show awesome
great version of sappy
Oh The Guilt ❤
New drummer, new songs, and living the good life. The original lineup was complete, and less than a year later they would become the grunge wonders of the world. Rock on! Side note: I think they just got done recording the first few Hoarmoaning songs by the sound of Kurt's guitar amp, but I can't be sure.
just brilliant the sound that came out of these 3 guys . amazin energy . respect
I love that account and what it shows to us. Love Nirvana
wonderful, thank you very much
OMFG THANK YOU!!!!!!!
my favorite version of Dumb
+Lost Leopards I like the way he brings it up in the beginning
This is possibly the most songs NIRVANA played in a single concert, Awesome there's (7) songs off INCESTICIDE & other Rare Unreleases Songs. I saw NIRVANA live on their Final Canadian Show Ever (3 Months Before Kurt Passed Away) on Jan.4.1994 in Vancouver BC "In Utero" Tour. NIRVAN $old Out 2 Shows @ the ONE FORUM in Advance in a single day.
Awesome playlist
This is by far my favorite Nirvana concert... Nirvana has inspired our band in some many great ways! :)
Crazy setlist
Thanks for posting. I'm so happy this show was recorded and great work on the editing. Listening to this makes me feel I was there, experiencing Nirvana in its purest form :)
that's a sick setlist thanks for the upload
1:42:16 definitely they're best son of a gun performance, the rage in his voice
Thank you, this is very cool.
Can you even IMAGE being at this show!? My GOD. I grew up with the band Sublime and that was awesome, completely. Lots of Legendary small shows like this. But, I've never been so: "Damn, I wish I was at this show!" in my life. hah
Imagine is exactly what I've done. I'm writing a novel set in 1990 Seattle and have written a scene with this show. I'll send the scene to you if you like?
@@josephdowling811 I was there and I got a couple of great stories about that show
@Aw Applesauce - You should post those stories here, man! I'm certain we'd all love to read any anecdotes from this legendary night.😎
@@josephdowling811 was it f×cking magical? Like, did everyone watching feel the shift?
@@Dana-jl2fv If only I knew! Like I said, I wrote the scene for a novel and had to imagine it! Aw Applesauce was the one who was there!
Great show
thank you
Setlist is awesome
gracias por los subtitulos!
Love this version of Aneurysm
This is incredible
This is so badass
holy crap this a great show! love the energy. dave grohl kills it on drums
Kurt: "I really feel like a bar band now!"
top-tier setlist!
Wow, great work. Like Tomnedreb comments here under, what a set list and whit this sound, it`s a fucking -90 show!!! Keep up the good work RareNirvana, thank`s. Ola Thurn ,Sweden
100% the best setlist and performance I’ve ever seen. I wish I could have been at this show. I saw them in Austin at Liberty Lunch in 1991 and in 1993 but both pale in comparison to the Off-Ramp show and set. Although, they sounded incredible with Pat playing 2nd guitar. At least people have put this show up for us to hear. Thanks. Amazing!
I agree with most comments best show PERIOD!!!
holy setlist.
It's nice to comeback to these and realize this is what Nirvana is, and not just their studio recordings. I love this channel Thanks for the Uploads! :)
Breed (Imodium). Is INCREDIBLE!
Fuck man this needs to be remastered so bad, I would buy this on all possible formats
Holy shit, Negative creep sounds so fucking good
Just awesome there shows looked so fun to be apart of
Formidable, j'adores
It's cool how they play with the tempo in Aneurysm
Buen concierto ✨
Vous êtiez supers cette année et toujours en cette année 2018 (Septembre)
Félicitations !!!
Here she comes now😍
what a weird setlist. amazing show!!
Je suis présente pour votre groupe!!!
Musique superbe
...Son of a gun, ...Kurt's voice, ...another world !!
Something in the Way, my favorite live version
Merveilleux
Re-magnifique!!!
“She seems to think she seems too weak.”
“She likes to think she’s something.”
“She takes a week to get over it.”
Superbe!!!
Never has a Strat lo0ked so fuckin yooo0ge as it does on ol'Kurtis as it does above.
thanks whoever filmed this and his friends. 1:15:31
their best show
Good afternoon!!!
Might be their greatest show of all time.
spank thru sounds just like the recording, it's pretty amazing
There seems to be a general consensus of Nirvana aficionados that this is their best live performance. I agree. What is everyone's suggestions for runner ups?
+Michael Lübbert Live at Reading 92
cattle club 2/12/90 is my favorite show
The OK Hotel in Seattle under the viaduct that is gone now too. Walked away stunned and I had seen them a bunch of times before. Not sure of the date but just before Nevermind was released so late summer '91. I almost didn't go because they wanted $8 and my snotty ass didn't want to pay more than $5. Steph paid and I still owe her the money. I saw these guys Mookie/PJ Soundgarden and Alice so many times it seemed normal. Wow. Did anybody ever really pay for the hash after the bash? Someone always handed me a plate and I said thanks. RIP Off Ramp and my youth.
@@jasonthompson9687 Long shot, but I am looking for people who were there at the Off Ramp or other shows in Seattle around that time. I am writing a novel set in 1990 Seattle which includes this show and others as part of a scene. Would love to hear more about your experiences!
@@josephdowling811 I was 25 then and all my friends were musicians my brother still is I spent a lot of time several nights a week at the clubs through about 93. How do I get a hold of you off of this forum? So
