He did indeed! His problem was hiding his inner pain which he did very well using sarcastic humor, stubbornness, and drugs....lots of drugs!! His early music was genius and rivaled Paul! The pairing of him and Paul was a match made in music heaven!! They belted out song after song and they were classics before they even recorded!! Then they stopped touring after this album and things drastically changed! Drugs started dominating the writing and the mood changed from the fun loving band that woo'ed the world, to a more cynical feel, critical of the world and actually adding to the angst of the decade!! If you really listen to the music from here on, it's Paul who still has that early spark still in his music! John was basically documenting his drug trips to music by now, and George was starting his Indian music obsession. You can argue the diversity, but they seemed less of a real band and more session players who wrote their own material. I realize that this is just MY opinion, but it's the overall feeling I'm left with when listening to all the music up to Rubber Soul! From here, I just pick and choose the few tracks from each album.
