Late comment I know , but this noise is the auto adjuster. If you’d stopped the engine and tapped on the chain at the top the adjuster makes a taping noise. Been chasing this problem in my 2010 king for a few of weeks . Bought new adjuster today and added an evo industries bump stop while I was in there. Magic, no noise

2018 street glide that started making the same putt putt noise in the primary with low RPMs. When The bike is real hot from riding here in Florida, at idle if you feather the throttle slightly you hear that putt putt putt down in the primary. When you’re up and running and have RPMs buildup rides great. I was advised not worry about it just ride it I’ve got 20,000 miles on the bike now right now.

If you watch from 34 sec to 46 sec and listen to the sound you will see the adjuster move in sync with the sound - this leads me to think it either is the chain or the adjuster - there was a service bulletin put out in late 2013 for an addition of 2 spacers ( p/n 10300021 ) service bulletin # M-1352 - this affects all 2014 only Dyna,Softail,Trike, and Touring --- I would put a new bolt in and the shim kit - cost around $10 for parts -- my 2014 FLHTK is doing same and will dig into it once parts arrive including the Hayden tensioner

Ive got the same noise on the my '14 Street Glide. I was thinking it might be the chain slapping the inside of the primary, but I can see from your video thats not the case. Mine isn't quite as bad, but I'm sure it will get there with time. Ive only got 9400 miles on it. I tried something I read online, where I took it out and ran it up to about 4500 rpm in first gear, then let go and let it coast back down to around 1000. I have ridden HD for 40 years. Each one had its own rattles and knocks. Who gives a shit. It does not hurt a thing. When you change your primary oil and do your chain inspection, if you don't see any rubbing or wear marks there is not a problem. If you want a silky silent ride, buy a Tesla.

Why in the hell is Harley Davidson still using a chain primary drive? Here in 2018 there is no need for that type of primary drive. A gear drive would eliminate most of the left side of the bike issues in Harley-Davidson’s and they could still use the current primary cover for appearances.

scrap it, and get a mule. the factory sends their shit bikes out to be returned to the dealerships for updated parts. $$$$$$ compensator, shoes, chain. same old story, look at the twin-cam, cam chain adjusters, crappy shocks that leak, cam bearings that take a shit and cause all kinds of problems, seats that you can't go more than 50 miles in and you need a back operation, the list goes on. a mule the 4 legged animals, a saddle, blanket, and harness-rains cost less, last longer. it will go where an HD can't trails, water, snow, mud, sand. less maintenance, and never breaks down or goes out of style. they have been making the same model for years, a proven reliable means of transportation. and if you get hungry you can eat it.

Those two tensioners don't compensate with a spring like the Hayden....can you hear the sound above idle?

TheAagaards on the gas sound is gone. Let off and you hear it. Usually doesnt make a sound til motor warm.
