- Making the absolute most of 3D printing and Laser Cutting! These tools are becoming much more affordable to the average modeler and in today's video I’ll show you the basics when it comes to putting something like this together.
The model is built in HO scale (1/87th Scale) and it shows just how intricate we can build models with some of the more modern tools we have available to us. There is quite a steep learning curve however if you’re willing to invest the time and energy you’ll certainly surprise yourself at what can be achieved even at a beginners level.

This video is like Bob Ross's The Joy of Painting, but with models. It's calming and interesting to watch.
Exactly what I’m thinking. At some points he seemed to ruin the work but came up with even more stunning results.
Bob ross didnt 3d print his paintings tho
@@tiny_gyarados8848 True, but given the different time and genre, I think that's an understandable difference.
You should make this a series- making actual locations in miniature!
That is a really cool idea! I'll have to write that down 😎
I’d love to see the Grampians or the hilly/mountainy areas north of Gippsland (forgot the name of the region)
Please do that Luke
@@LukeTowan can you also do fictional dioramas from franchises like Gundam and evengelion as well as some Ghibli movies. Also can you do a diorama on the Chernobyl nuclear reactor.
And also able to connect all of it like its a whole town but not
Luke when modelling: *carefully and gently positions every little thing*
Luke with the USB drive: *YEET*
You need perfectly steady hand for 3d printing
I genuinely couldn't tell if that shot was an intentional joke or a genuine goof but either way it really cracked me up🤣
@@paveloleynikov4715 And nerves of plastic filament.
@@mossydreamz deffo a joke
Obviously a staged shot as the USB was oriented the right way the first time instead of entering the orientation matrix 😂😂
I'm a simple person. I see a Luke upload, I click fast.
Your attention to detail never ceases to amaze me.
Thanks Merrick, likewise I'm always impressed at the scenes you create as well 😉
Hey Merrik, I enjoy watching your projects too
Merrick!!!! Love your work too.
Except at putting USB sticks in the slot. 😂😂
@@LukeTowan how about an abandoned structure next time.
Luke: "You can get results just as accurate as laser-cutting with hand-cutting methods."
Me: "Okay." crying-cat-meme.jpg
lol... yeah it would be a struggle... but not impossible 😎
For straight lines I'd say you can get pretty damn close with a sharp knife to the cuts you can get with a laser, though for long cuts the laser is more reliable, but for curves the laser will win every time.
this guy is unfricken believable.
Flips bottles like a boss, can't stick in a USB right the first time. He IS mortal.
he did it on purpose to not make us feel bad
a couple years ago when i was having massive struggles with my mental health, i would lay in bed and watch boulder creek railroad videos to calm myself down... it's oddly reassuring to know that they're still being made, and they're just as interesting as they were when i used to watch them! great work!
edit: vidoes to videos (i was distracted when i wrote this comment)
Luke, will you make a mountain side diorama with railroad through a tunnel?
That would be awesome! And the bigger the better :D
This should be an Olympic sport! I'm sure you would win a gold medal 🥇
100 miles ahead of any other scale modeler literally no joke amazing work
Unbelievable. I can't stop myself from watching your videos again and again...
As we know Luke is a Pro bottle-flipping master but that USB placement really crack me up.
"lets not waste anymore time" - also the motto for the guy on the bike. Amazing cornering skills.
Great build, as always :)
Im a simple man I your videos and I click like. You're an incredible artist my man.
Nice Video as always. It would be cool if you could do a jungle diorama someday.
That would be cool! I've never tried but it would be something I'd love to attempt 😉
The static grass blows me away every single time!
this is way too professional for me to even understand or want to make something like this. *cries in awe
I'm always in awe at watching your videos. Not only do I learn new things, but I get inspired that I could try that. Thank you for all you do.
When I get a notice that a new Luke Towan video is posted I know it's going to be a good day!
I have been watching and loving your videos for ages, but this one made me feel so old.
Best present for my name's day....a video from Luke!
I always get a little angry watching your videos... how can these be SO FRICKING GOOD??? All I can say is: Don't stop... I enjoy each one of them with my wife and we love to see your work even thou I can only dream of making anything remotely close to your creations. Btw... the attention to detail *chef kiss* incredible!
That Spraying at 5:30 was my favorite bit. Thank You for another video Luke!
Luke, you should make airport scene with a tram.
Or something like an airport terminal
Yeah
In Z, there are so nice airplane models in 1:200 or even 1:220.
The magnorail was the most smartest thing i've ever seen.
I have been following you for a year now, have been thinking about starting model building for a long time. The cost has held me back, but recently I saw models that fit me and got it home today. Will start building on it tomorrow and it will be exciting, thanks for the inspiration
9:42 It's much easier to get this effect if you take off (Un-screw) the small nozzle on the very end of the air brush that protects the tip of the needle.
PS: Sorry forgot to say, yet another amazingly realistic model, you are a true Artist :-)
Luke your ingenuity never ceases to amaze! FANTASTIC JOB!! Can't wait for the effects update. With your talent you could go into kit manufacturing. You could become the Australian George Sellios. Again excellent job.
I found Wally! He's looking at you from the basement access when you're adding turf to the diorama!
So I think I just worked out that this dudes vids are umm everything!! that I actually feel like I've accomplished something important just by watching 🚤
I just love your channel! Not that I know a single thing about what you do, it still seems like you progressed in your craft which is so cool to see!!
yo that transition at 5 30 is ultra clean
The thing which impressed me about you is your clear understanding of how important texture and shine are to achieving a realistic effect. I feel like a lot of people miss this and their otherwise amazing models and dioramas suffer as a result.
I've seen ambitious dioramas of castles and medieval villages that look like piss next to this guy's models. A little detail goes a long way.
Total Awesomeness….
Your always a pleasure to watch.
This is one of those reasons why I subscribed to this channel! 👍
If there is a kingdom of patience, Luke will be the king
With Luke's attention to detail, I would be more than happy to have him as my pilot. ATB : )
Incredible work as always been following your work for years now. 👏👏👍 always look forward to seeing your next project and use alot of what I learned from your channel.
This guy is also really good at recording and editing videos of his projects.
Hey Luke, have you ever done/would you ever consider doing a fantasy or historical setting in a diorama?
Quite nice and several steps beyond what I normally do; but, this gives me more ideas to try later on. I always live my buildings interiors accessible for later work.
Excellent, been waiting for an industrial(ish) scene
The forklift (must be a runaway as it has no driver 🤣) is a great detail 👍
Forklift driver Klaus?
17:01 don't mix batteries 😉 --> 17:07 problem solved! --> 17:12 wait what?! Man... another awesome build and video-editing... And to know it's even a real building somewhere in the world, nice! Greetings from Belgium!
I love this content so much, calming voice, mesmerising craftmanship, and great advice for expert, novice, and beginning scenery makers
Sometimes I think it's too calming! But the results are astounding. I try to be as methodical as Luke is, but I always rush things a bit and the quality decreases.
As awesome as ever Luke but you must have quite the quarry landscape in your backyard by now! Thanks for never failing to inspire :D
I saw his channel for the first time and I immediately subscribed to it!
Finally!!! I’ve never clicked a video alert faster in my life! 😂
ha ha awesome, hope you enjoy watching 😉
Luke every time I watch one of your videos all I can think of is a Christmas Village. It's July I know but I think your Christmas village would be AMAZING!
wow luke, your channel really inspires us all, success always bro
Incredible as always, especially being based on a real-world reference. But honestly, the hyper guy on the bike really steals the show 🚴♂️
My sincere congratulations for you wonderful piece of work! The truth is we have been following you for the last two years and we are amazed with what you do. So is, that you have inspired us and we have started with small proyects with the idea of carrying on and getting them settled into dioramas. Instead of trains we'll try to work with slot cars 1:32. We know we're miles away from you in all senses (your brilliant work and geographicly) but we'll continue watching you and learning from you each day. Thank you once again for your inspiration. Oh sorry, we are Pam and Ruben from Spain.
I’m always like; oh you’re gonna make it [zooms out] - wait that’s the actual build!!!!
Were the people in the real building like; "he's out there again, he's taking pictures! Its oceans one I tells ya!"
Greetings again from South Africa. Oh Luke i love it, thank you so much....so good to see you are back again...take care as always
That intro and these videos never disappoint
Man!!! I was starting to get worried I was not seeing anything new!!! Masterful like always!!! I loved the understated detail of grass on the kerb!!! Stay safe!! :)
5:34 that was clean
Liked your undercoat transition!
Wow. When I think, you can't top that, you do. Thanks for this wonderful share.
i love every your video, and love to be surprised by each one of your builds. When I get new notification I make myself a cup of tea, sit down and relax seeing the work of the man who brings to life sheets of plastic and mulit colored pigments. (in short i love your work, keep doing what u do)
I left a job yesterday, and start another one tomorrow. I was seriously wondering what to do today.
Luke Towan had my back.
It's gonna be a good day... :)
I’ve seen so many videos of yours and you never cease to amaze me.
Your advice is helping me build my own model railway diorama. Thanks, and glad you provide the tutorials.
Always such a treat to wake up to one of your videos!
Another amazing work Luke - thank you for sharing!
Get the heck outta here with the static grass growing up in the sidewalk cracks. That was a very nice touch. 👍
C’est toujours un grand plaisir de voir tes réalisations très réalistes.
Thanks Patrick, glad you enjoy the videos 😉
@@LukeTowan I was expecting you to reply in French. It would not have surprised me at all as there seems to be no end to your perfection.
Psyched for the future sewer video under the building! What a fantastic build
Amazing as usual. One of your best! Also loved the transition when you passed the spray can and the building turned grey. Very good effect!
Hello,
your every video is a marvel, the care and precision in the details you put into it is simply wonderful.
Then the cyclist is the top ... nice even the idea of the cart!
5:34, only one word: WoW 😍
Excellent work Luke. Another great Model. Attention to details is amazing.
3:51 proof that Luke Towan is, in fact, human. 🤣
😄 yeah I tried about 10 times to try and nail it but every time I missed! The shot I ended up using was one of the worst attempts 😂
@@LukeTowan nice diversion there cyber Luke. 🤣
@@LukeTowan Next time just pull the zip drive out and reverse the play back.
Yup, I remember my "first time". 😬😁
Pretty awesome build project, I know nothing about this but am intrigued enough to buy a machine and try.
Yeah, I thought that too, but I'd be editing out every flub I made!'😅🤦♂️
The guy is from another level, amazing! :)
This is incredible. Thanks for continuing to put out these excellent builds!
Wow that looks bloddy fantastic your attention to detail amazes me every time well done Luke.- Nicholas.
These are absolutely incredible. Your videos never cease to amaze and inspire.
Awesome as always Luke
I'm lost for words, stunning
So amazing and so vivid, so beautiful in sight👏👏
Amazing build Luke. The wife and I always love seeing a video notification from you
I just sit here totally mesmerised by your attention to detail. Can’t wait for the next video.
Luke Towan the god of modelling !
Brilliant! I love the magnorail system and can’t wait for the next instalment.
Thanks Kathy, yeah the magnorail is pretty cool and so easy to make additions, especially with a 3D printer.
I remember seeing the original working diorama that the creator produced. It was stunning and all run from something that looked like a Fisher Price record player. You have carried on his ingenuity!
Wonderful details! I am truly amazed and never get bored watching your videos Luke!
Absolutely amazing. Love watching your ultra realistic videos. Just spectacular!
Another gorgeous model. Superb work.
Always a pleasure watching ur work Luke! 😊
I've never clicked a video so fast.
ha ha I'm glad you enjoy watching them 😃
I love watching them, all of your dioramas are works of art.
Love the USB fumble bit!
Absolutely stellar work, Luke! True-to-life, as they say!
Hey man, it's nice to see you from time to time for that relaxing 'me time'. All the best man. Appreciate always your hard work.
I don't build these, never plan to build these, and really not sure how I got on to your channel a year or so ago....
But man, even I was asking myself where you were for the longest time! I was thrilled to see you dropped another video and I of course watched it. I know I don't do diorama's but I do 3D print, design in CAD, and all around think all of what you do is useful in a lot of hobbies. So cheers to another great video!
This is absolutely amazing. What attention to detail.
That magna rail is brilliant, never seen that before.
I guess Im not the only one saying that......but:
YOU SHOULD REALLY MAKE ALOT MORE VIDEOS!!!!
quality, not quantity
@@Ollie9T7 Never said I want one without the other.
@Jack Phillips Would you spare me your crying? I just wanted to express I COULD WATCH HIM EVERYDAY MAKING STUFF. Im not in the mood today for your salt dude.
@@LaserGadgets to be fair you said he should make more, not could lmao you brought this on yourself
The problem mainly is that these dioramas take a lot of time to make. Not to mention he most likely does this all to himself, Preparing, filming, building, editing etc.
I'm fairly sure these take over several weeks to work on.
Aside his private life and such, maybe he does multiple projects at once, but that I don't know.
*Edit: Some spelling mistakes.
These videos are great. Very well filmed, edited, and narrated.
