Great video! I always wondered how to hide the joins when putting two stone sheet’s together. Chamfer opposite sides and bingo! So bloody simple but oh so effective! Cheers for sharing this.
wow fantastic I am just staring to build a railway after dismantling my layout due house move . i now live with the Dartmouth railway running at the bottom of my road of which i can see from my garden. this video will help me to try and build the broadbands viaduct thanks
Hi Tris, great build! I very much enjoyed watching you create an amazing structure. Foamex is good fun to work with. The weathering looks top-notch. Looking forward to seeing it blended into the rest of the scene. Your videos are always relaxing and great to watch, thank you. 🙏
Hi Tris, having watched you from the beginning your modelling skills are getting better and better. I don’t always comment and haven’t done so for a while, as you have so many comments which is great to see, but you always get a like though. The production of your videos are excellent as well as the content. The bridge is a fine example of what you are achieving so realistic and the way you’ve made it is put across so well. Cheers Tris, keep up the good work, John
Nice video Tris. I am Impressed with the way you built the bridge. The time and effort with scratch building a model is so rewarding once finished. A model to be proud of. - Nicholas.
Hi Tris, what I really like about you is the way you just go for it. You have come an awful long way since the first video I watched a long while back. Fantastic results from very basic materials and the time you have put into it is key to the realism of the finish. Really lovely job that, like it loads and I always get gripped watching you’re content..👏🏻👏🏻. All the best, Chris
Hello, what an amazing bridge. It is so life like, just like the real thing. Well done Sir, you have a great talent as a railway modeler . I shall look forward to your next video. 👍
Incredible result Tris! Thanks for sharing the technique with us all - you must be really pleased with the result. The before/after with the old kit bridge is a night and day transformation. Take care
WOW WOW WOW what an amazing accomplishment Tris, I've followed you for sometime now and I'm so impressed with the progress of your skill set. The bridge is really nice and looks so professional. In my opinion its a lot better looking than a brought one, the overall look is better and of course is a perfect fit for the space. You have inspired me and given me the confidence to have a go my self now thankyou so much . pete
@@OONeal I definitely will Tris that's for sure , i doubt it will be anything like what you have achieved, but I will enjoy doing it and learning as I go
Hi Trish, really enjoyed the video. There is always great satisfaction on Scratch Building something yourself and you did a great job on that bridge. Cheers Greg
Hi Tris, just stumbled across your channel and I must say what a wealth of information there is. Thank you for sharing all that you have done. This is just what I was looking for and I am so excited to start building my own custom bridge. Once again many thanks for your great videos.🚂🚃🚃🚃
Hi Tris, the Bridge looks amazing well done! I've been following your channel for sometime now and I really look forward to seeing your progress with the layout.
This is a method of construction that I have not seen before and seems a great improvement on many of the different methods possible. I like the accuracy and will try it on some of my future structures such as platforms and the like. I also love your painting and weathering techniques. A pleasure also to watch a skilled modeller at work. Best regards from Australia
Hey there! This was great to see! You have really captured the sense of a steam bridge! My first thought was that you should try to get or borrow a locomotive with a steam generator and do loads of filming as it goes through! :) Awesome work! Thomas,
That bridge really is beautiful, a work of art. I’v used Wills sheets often in the past, and have always used them as self supporting, due to their thickness. My very first attempt at bridge building was way back in the very early 80’s, a plywood structure, with card tiles individually glued to represent stone outlines, then Polyfiller and PVA mix dabbed onto the tiles to give a representation of individual stone faces. It worked well, but was extremely tedious.
Very impressive. Cutting Wills sheet is easier if you use an Olfa cutter/scriber as this actually removes the plastic from the cut rather than just pushing it to the side (which is why it gets harder the deeper you cut with a normal blade) good job on sanding the ends of the sheets to make the joints disappear too. I like the soot you added, just about right, depending on how much traffic was going by. Check out the tunnels around Kings Cross, just completely black before all the sandblasting about 20 years ago. Period colour photos of your area are the best guide, as some branch lines hardly have any staining. I’m looking forward to the next video😊.
Hey Tris, Such a fantastic build! I have a bridge to build on my layout and you've provided some much needed inspiration! Love the content so keep it up! :) Cheers, James
Looks amazing, Tris! Great work. I don't think you went overboard with soot effects - looked pretty realistic to me. Looking forward to the scenic enhancements. ATB, Si.
Wow Tris, you scratch building skills have grown tremendously, well done with the bridge. If I hadn’t of seen the video, I’d of sworn it was a bought item. Congratulations on growing your modelling skills, thanks for sharing 👌🏻👌🏻🏆 28:13
Luckily there's a Hobbycraft here in Rugby that sells all the stuff you've used here. That bridge looks fantastic! Once I get some spare time I'll give it a go.
Great vid but gutted! Thought this was looking like the answer to designing and building arches for my scratchbuild but the cad design section was already done! As a beginner, I'd love to see how you designed the arches from start to finish!
Looking good, excellent in fact✌️👍💜😊 I like using Wills sheet in 7mm, nothing worse than not addressing the seams - Allan Downes used to use a soldering iron, I've always used solvent and/or filler. Technically UHU is an impact adhesive - I always use solvent free now as it doesn't string. Nice smooth quiet running too - will you use Copydex to ballast the track?
@@OONeal Credit where credit is due😊👍✌️💜 I've dabbled with Copydex/latex glue and it seems to augment the cork etc, deadens sound, some other media type products might do as well too🤔🤔
Looking good, Tris - that stonework painting technique is stellar! Not sure if this will help, but it might be worth trying out some different scalpel blades. I found No. 11 blades flexed too much for large cuts, so I now have three retractable scalpel handles with No. 10, No. 10A and No. 11 blades in each, as I find they all have a use. Anyway, lovely video - the layout it really shaping up. That rock face is stunning, by the way 😍
Wow! A real master class in bridge scratch building which will come in very useful for a future project. I'll come back to this video time and time again, for reference when I make a start. It really is superb and I hope I can get close to how your bridge looks. Thanks for the video. Bob PS. Do you list the materials and sources anywhere so that I can have the best possible chance to emulate your work?
Another excellent creation. It looks so realistic and the weathering and soot really brings it all together. I was intrigued to watch you do it. At the end of the video, when you shrank yourself down, did it look as good from ground level? 😊
Excellent work as always, and love the weathering techniques. One question about the 3d printed arches, was this the only method that you'd thought of, or had you attempted making these from salters, say? It's just that I don't have a 3d printer and wondered about alternative solutions to this type of build. Thanks
Dry brush some very darkcolour (whatever colour you use) into the Rock Recesses, I can see there is a bit already done but not enough to add some realistic contrast. Please do NOT take my comments as criticisms they are just my opinion. I do like what you have done and hope my comments are accepted asmy opinion but also maybe tips. I'm just building my Layout. No Track laid just about to start on some scenery, hopefully I can upload mine so that you can see I practice what I preach. T =)
Great job Tris, but don't push harder when you're cutting. The result will not be good, just do more passes the way you did in this video. It's hard to tell on camera, but I think your soot/smoke stains are pretty much on the money.
Mate, your video presence is great. But, (and there's always a but, isn't there?) your lasagna cutting face surely has a relationship with the bridge? Both are wonderful stone examples, but would they be seen together? Would you build a bridge with stone brought in from a long way away, or would you use the stone on your doorstep? Harsh, perhaps...
Very nice one, Tris.
Thank you 😊
Hi Tris, excellent workmanship, great model, and great to finally meet you at Tony’s trains!
