Using the USB flashback or Mflash or USB flashing can be a very simple and effective way to prepare your motherboard for the new processors on the market such as the 5600x and 5600G etc.
So careful planning and some simple downloads and file name changes and you can get your new BIOS flashed or programmed in around 5 minutes.
This video is a bit longer than others but we do cover some troubleshooting tips and also look at specifics like the LED readouts and other useful information.

Superstar, many thanks for this guide. The manual fell so short and I subsequently wouldn’t have managed this process without your video, saving me so much frustration and concern 🤛🏻 well done that man
Glad it helped - have a great weekend :-)
Thank you for all the help as a first-time builder this was a stressful process could not have done it with out you!

This motherboard was driving me insane thanks for posting this now I'm up and running first bios flash I ever had to do. Keep doing gods work sir
Just an FYI regarding upgrading your BIOS using this method after your components are installed. The answer is you 'should' be able to perform this process with all of your components installed on your motherboard. I just did it with my CPU, RAM, graphics card, fans, etc. all installed after it stopped posting while I was attempting to OC my RAM. It successfully upgraded and reset my BIOS and I'm back in business.
That being said, thank you for this video.
thanks Robert

I did exactly this on my new MSI B550 GP the other day in advance of installing my R5/5600X - and it worked! (Bios - 7C56v16 Wondering why yours only went up to 7C56v15...??? ). I followed how you did it on a Video you uploaded a few days ago - Thanks!!! :)

You’re instructions helped me so much. I have this exact mobo and was struggling to even download the correct bios.
glad it helped! all sorted now?
Just wanted to say thank you for the guide, I got the same board with 5600G so needed to update BIOS first. Did all the steps as described (without components installed) and it worked perfectly. A few minutes for the BIOS update, powered off, installed components and it posted without any issues. Maybe to note here that initial POST takes quite a while (15-30s) but seems like eternity because you think that the board may be bricked. I used Hama 32GB USB 3.0 stick formatted to FAT32, works great.
Nice work!
which version of the bios did you use?
The latest non-beta version 7C56v17. I would say that this should apply in general, always take the latest non-beta version.
Hi! Is the motherboard still working?
The board that came back from the dead. And thanks for this information

I would like to thank you with your video until 2 a.m. today. Before that, as mentioned in your video, I also flashed the BIOS as in your video.
Everything worked perfectly, also the file was renamed to MSI.ROM and everything was perfectly recognized by the board.

Hi Mike, just flash my new msi gaming plus thanks for another helpful tutorial 👍
No problem 👍
After doing many trial and errors I finally able to get it work, yay!
I followed the exact step on the video.
No components are attached on the motherboard, and only two PSU cables are connected to it (PSU & power cables).
I use Sandisk USB 2.0 cruzer blade CZ50. Earlier tried to use other USB brand but it wont start.
Thanks @mikesunboxing for the video!
Glad it worked out for you in the end
A quick User experience for using it in full setups, it's worked fine the 3 times I've tried it.
Recently tried the MSI Centre BIOS update method which failed and bricked my B550 UNIFY X MOBO, so used this method to install it instead and it worked perfectly.
Also when I built the kids 2 Xmas PC's with the MSI Gaming Plus and couldn't get a Video Signal I again tried it in fully built systems and again had zero issues (turned out the Video out was unrelated anyway)
So 3 fully built systems and Zero issues with this method.
[I'll update to let you know if it's 5 for 5 as I'll update the kids soon to see if I can get rid of the USB dropouts there Keyboards and Mice occasionally get]
Hey man, I was wondering how did you solve the video output issue, because I'm having the same issue.

HI Mike.
Just a bit of an update on my experience with the B550 GP and the Bios Update I did , 7C56v16.
As I discussed previously I changed from the X570 GP with the 7/3700X and installed the B550 GP with a new 5/5600X (hence doing the Bios Update).
Anyway, all went well until it came to Booting Up - it posted fine, but that is all it would do, stumblingly only go into the Bios Settings with the "BOOT" Light remaining lit on the Board. Not seeing The Windows Boot. It saw the SSD ok but not Windows on it. I thought that maybe along the way the SSD had done a funny so swapped it out for another one I have with Windows on that I know is working from the HAFX 5/3600. Still nothing - Strange...?????
Me and my S-in-L eventually sussed it. With the latest Bios Update it had made "csm/uefi" available now and enabled it by default! Not too sure what that does but turning it "OFF" within the Bios Settings made it all better! Booted straight away! Thank Goodness!!!
Anyway, I just wanted to give this "Heads-Up" in case others have the same issue...... Ciao.
yeah the CSM / UEFI toggle catches a lot of us out. thanks for sharing your experiences wit it 😀
Tnx man ❤️ for full bios details video. 🔥
Our pleasure 😊

I spent over 4 hours with many usb pen drives with the power applied and failing every time!
It does not make sense, without power, how you gonna get the board running? Once you plugged usb, you turn power on as the video indicates.
Think he is saying not to boot pc or press the power button maybe ?

@@mikesunboxing my nephew had put the ram in backwards, so it may have been broken when that happened. I had put it back the right way, but I had a feeling it may have been damaged. I swapped the ram out for a different set and it booted just now and I'm installing windows. After this, I'll check if both or 1 doesn't work. Hopefully at least 1 is salvageable. But still, he did a really good job putting it together. I'm not even gonna knock him for doing that one part wrong so he doesn't get discouraged. Ram can be replaced and I'm really happy it's not the CPU or Mobo not working because I am tired of going to best buy because today was my first day having to flash a bios and they have really slim pickings when it comes to parts, Haha. I may take 1 RAM out of his that I built and put it in this one that he built. I feel like with this ram I'm working with now, a different PC had randomly restarted while playing games before, so I don't want that to be an issue with this one. I'm super happy I found this video to flash the bios. It worked out for me. I'm installing windows right now, so I'm happy it's finally working. You rock!

Hi there. Thanks for the amazing tutorial! Could please confirm if i can use this motherboard with Ryzen 7 5700x and if this procedure is necessary for this processor? Thank youz very much in advance
yes it is compatible and might need an update depending how old the motherboard has been sat in a warehouse or on a shelf
SO I got mine fixed, rookie mistake, I just moved my RAM over from previous PC ( DRMM4 ) and did not check the ram was compatible with the new mother board, it wasn't. Got 2 sticks that were and CPU is detected. Now the VGA light is on LOL
So is THIS how you recommend STARTING with this (or any MB) before attaching or doing anything else? Also do you install the BETA or non-BETA BIOS?
The MSI guide videos and instructions don't show you to install things like this, which for a novice builder is VERY confusing. They make out as if you should attach everything THEN do the BIOS and all drivers.
i normally do the bios first and preferably a non beta one if possible

Can I use ExFAT instead of FAT 32 to update the BIOS?
No sorry fat32 or fat16
Thank you for he reply, really appreciate it.Managed to be an USB that is FAT32. My B550 GAming Edge motherboard says it is ryzen 5000 ready, does that mean I don't need to use the BIOS flashback option?@@mikesunboxing
@@alexandrebissell5489 That should be good to go if it says it on the box :-)
Great video! But can I skip the previous BIOS version of the update and jump to the newest version? I just bought this motherboard.
Yes, absolutely
Hi Mike, how are you? I'm building a computer with a Ryzen 5600G, I'm going to use only the processor's integrated video. I have a question about which motherboard to pick, the one in the video or a B550 Aorus Elite. What's your opinion?
yes that is a good choice and not too bad a price at the moment
Hmm, my motherboard have diffrent think. Update LED is make faster blinking and blinking about 2 hours and doesnt want stop blinking. Next start PC is not posiible :D
This is maybe easier to fix or at least advise if we can ask more questions and get direct answers, so feel free to join our Discord chat and we can go over it in more detail discord.gg/XtBTGQ6BDu

Hey great video. But was wondering if it is possible to boot to bios to check what version is installed without a cpu in? The build I'm making needs newer than x version for the cpu I wish to install. Or would it be safe to attempt a boot when the bios version does not support the cpu installed?
it is safe to attempt it but if not supported it won't boot, and won't harm it either
Thank you so much man
No problem
I just get a continous Red light after a few seconds after pushing the red bios button, Have tried 5 different USB drives, hidden files showing, formating with mbr. Original Problem is no display with Ryzen 9 3950X NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Founders Edition - MSI b550 motherboard produces a VGA light error, coming back to PC's from the Mac world - wish I spent my money more wisely
vga error is just what it says a problem with your graphics card. A bios update won't fix that. but it sounds like you have other problems here, maybe pop in to the discord tech support chat for some help with it
When I tried it the red light stopped blinking and just stayed on after a few seconds
Either the drive is not recognised or the file is wrong
Hey, my bios light was flashing for a good minute, but then just became solid
probably a file read error
Ive been trying to flash my bios on this board but when I press the flash bios button the red light goes solid instead of blinking, what should I do?
try another USB drive and make double sure the file name and format is correct
Thanks so much I got it to flash
awesome! nice one, please leave a like if the video helped and share if you think it might help others
Thank you very much.
You are welcome!
I followed all the steps correctly. I am getting a permanent red light on the USB port. Need some help please. Problem started happening after a BIOS update 🥺
