To use the BIOS flash back button on this motherboard you will need the following
Bare motherboard
USB Memory stick (ideally around 8GB and USB 2.0)
A PC PSU with 24 pin main connection and 8 pin (4+4) CPU power
And a device to access the Internet to download and transfer the BIOS files.
Files can be found here
www.msi.com/Mo...
Format the USB stick to FAT32 and remove any volume label or description, also use the default file allocation size.
Download the correct BIOS version www.msi.com/Mo... and save to desktop (or somewhere you know to find it)
Then unzip or extract the compressed downloaded file
copy the BIOS file only to the USB stick
rename the BIOS file to msi.rom
connect up the PSU to the motherboard
insert the USB into the board and press the flashback button
wait for the solid red LED at the end of the flash and then for the light to go out
turn off PSU and rebuild system or test the CPU and components on a makeshift workbench to confirm the flash has worked and the components are all working.

Hello, I have built my PC about a month ago and it was working properly. However; for the last 2 days I am having black screen crashes especially while gaming or booting the game.
To narrow down the possibilities, I have made a clear format and only installed the windows updates, gpu driver and mobo drivers. And also the steam app to make the test for gaming. And unfortunately the black screen crash still goes on.
What I have found out is that the PC makes a strange booting sound and sometimes it lives on and sometimes it gives the black screen. It always makes that sound before the crash. I assume the sound comes from the mobo... it is MSI MEG x570 Unify btw.
I have tried to perform cpu and gpu load tests and it survived that but booting a game or playin for a couple of minutes is impossible... which was fine just 2 days ago...
I need some directions

Thank you so much! I'm trying to building my first PC, and this video helped out a ton. The first USB drive I tried didn't work, but after I tried a different one it all updated smoothly. Thank you!

Thanks a lot, just updated this card a few hours ago and all went fine, really useful.
i was expecting it wont work since my psu only has the 4 pins thing instead of 8 for the cpu_power but it works great so far
Great to hear!

Thank you. This was so clear and it was literally exactly what I needed, even down to the specific motherboard. I bought a Ryzen 7 5700x and this mobo and it needed a bios update to run the 3060 that I was switching onto it. Yo're a lifesaver. Please never take this video down as I will be referring people here.

Great video for those who DO need flash their BIOS, it helped Pauls Hardware previously so Im sure it'll help others too, thanks for taking the time Mike :-)
yes always worth weighing up the pros and cons of flashing, if it ain't broke don't fix it
Thanks for this vidro, what a lifesaver... PSA: If the red light blinks a couple of times and then holds solid red, try using a different USB drive, worked for me
Great tip!

Just wanted to say thanks for your video - it really saved my hide because this mobo crashed during the BIOS flash.
I flashed with the 240320 7C95v2K (renamed msi.rom of course) and I haven't had a reboot during Win10 install, so this is a HUGE improvement.
Excellent glad it worked out for you
Thank you very much. I used the Version without WIFI. In my case, i could not do the update with installed components. I think the default BIOS does not support my CPU (5800X). But without CPU it works perfectly.
thanks for watching
Absolutely love your videos man, they really helps at 4:30 am when I'm pulling my hair out on why things won't work
glad it helps and hope everything is working now?
Hey, I appreciate that you're still answering questions two years later. I have a quick question. I assembled the pc, but the bios button flashes once when I press it and it stays on when holding it. Nothing else happens afterwards. I tried removing the RAM already, but that hasn't helped. I'm trying to upgrade my BIOS to v28
sounds like either a short somewhere or the USB drive can't be read, try another one if you can and triple check it is the right BIOS and the drive is formatted correctly

Hi, nice video but I have a question regarding the battery removal. More specifically, is it mandatory to remove the CMOS battery or not? And after having removed it, should I put it back or not?

Just bought the Board, I had a Ryzen 5500 no GPU, and the Motherboard powered up but gave blank display. So I had a pretty much a built unit. I disconnected everything but the CPU, and followed your directions. With the CPU installed when I started the Flash there was a loud beep, cpu light was flashing, but the Bios Flash pretty much followed your video from that point. After I put vid card and a stick of ram in and got a Display to get into bios. I then watched your other video that showed how to set up bios, My SATA Drive did not show up in the bios and would not boot to the drive. The default settings had Raid enabled , Hot swap drive enabled and was generally mucked up. So your video helped me get that sorted. A bit of a surprise was the Windows 10 drive booted like normal, and it was installed on a 8 year old ASUS board. So I will let it run and smoke test it for a day or so. See if I can get away without reinstalling Windows. I watched some reviews of Windows 11 and can't say anyone had a given a good reason to install it.
Thank you very much for the two Videos.
Glad the videos helped steve

However after pulling out the usb stick and successfully installing the newest driver for my motherboard (b550 pro vdh wifi) i installed the cpu and gpu and connected all the fans and pressed the power button expecting to go to the bios setting but it didn’t. The monitor shows me “no signal” message and the cpu led on the top right corner is on im not sure on what i did wrong or what i can do.
Can you please help me🙏🏼

Used 3 different USB sticks and it finally worked.. Does not work with kingston usb 3.0 data traveler 100.. Worked with unknown old slow usb
now it works with my 5700G tysm
Wow thanks for this video. This will be really my reference on the future. Just a quick question, you said dont flash your bios if it works, and was wondering if this board factory bios work on ryzen 7 5700g so I wouldnt have to flash the bios. Planning to buy this board + 5700g on the future. Again great video.
id the board is pretty new stock it should be pre flashed as the 5700g has been out a while now
Hi. I am currently updating my brother's PC using this tutorial. The MOBO has been flashing red for more than 25 minutes now. The parts connected to it is the SSD, CMOS battery, and the processor. The MOBO CPU led light is on. I am using a 16gb USB flash drive to do this. Should I wait for the red flashing light to just stop? I'm afraid I might ruin this machine if I do something that is not shown in this tutorial. :(
if it goes on for longer than 10 minutes without the flashing changing speed or the motherboard rebooting, it hasn't been able to read the drive or the file
I have the exact same motherboard but this didnt work for me the first time. Some guy on a forum said dont format usb in fat32 and to use NTFS instead. Thats what worked for me. If anyones doesnt work format in NTFS instead
the BIOS programming chip doesn't recognise NTFS so i have no idea how that worked?
el vídeo que estaba buscando!, muchísimas gracias.
thanks for watching
Una pregunta,e recomiendas descargar la versión más reciente o la misma versión que muestras en el vídeo?
I’ve let mine blink for 15 minutes and it still keeps blinking. It’s directly out of the box. Should I let it keep going? My other USB drive gives a solid light. So I can tell this one is getting passed that. Is it possible I need to try a 3rd usb drive?
keep trying other drives, you will get there in the end
I did follow all steps as stated, my led lights won't stop blinking at any cost. I waited for more than half hour.
are they blinking fast or slow?
Hi mine too, it never stops and the light is blinking fast
Hello , did u solve the problem?
Has anyone solved it?
Same please help!
Do I have to take the cmos battery out and short it if I’m using the motherboard brand new?
No need really if you are sure it is brand new
i followed all the steps and i have the same motherboard but my usb light isn’t blinking it’s just staying red what should i do?
if it never flashed and is solid red there is a short circuit on the computer, if it flashed a couple of times then solid it can't read the USB stick or possibly the file
Hi, i have literally done exactly the same i tried other things aswell. My problem is the same. I press the bios flash button red light appears and when i let go off the flash button key red light dissapears. Please help me.. The mother board has white light on i dont know what to do
