hi i have a question im building my first pc i bought a msi z790 edge wifi the box says it supports 13th gen will i still need to update before building my pc?

    • @KLEEBZTECH
      @KLEEBZTECH  Рік тому +1

@@winglover32 hard to say for sure. The board may support it but need updates to the BIOS. What you can do is look on the support page for the site and see if the CPU you are going to be using is supported and what BIOS is required. It should be under the compatibility section of the support page for your motherboard. I know for mine it is under the Results column and will show a zip file name which that name shows the BIOS version.

Wow im so glad I found this video before attempting it. Im still confused though about whether to power on my pc via psu to do the first bios update? I have everything in the tower fully put together, I just haven't turned it on yet cuz im worried about messing something up so I wanna get my steps in order and give myself best odds at doing it right first time. Should I start the pc at least once b4 doing my bios update? Do I turn my psu power on when doing bios update cuz I got everything connected so im confused about that.

I never realize you could do this, this is really a lifesaver for when you get motherboards that may not support the newest CPUs that need a BIOS update but you don't have another older CPU to put in there to get the update. Not too shabby of a video. I am building out a new PC using the MSI MPG Z790 Carbon and will be using an I9=13900 Raptor (13th Gen) CPU. Even though the board states 12/13th Gen ready, I decided to flash the BIOS after looking that the BIOS update frequency on MSI's support page for the motherboard, every couple of months. Typically motherboards don't have the latest firmware revision, and depending the particular scenario, it may or may not matter if you first flash it before inserting the CPU, RAM, etc. The only time I would think it would necessary is if you're installing a new gen of CPU, then having the current BIOS revision would matter. I just put the MB on the box, hooked up the motherboard power cable, and only used one CPU power cable, even though there are 2 CPU power connect ports -- I'll use both when I'm assembling it into my tower case.
    A few points to mention:
    - I used an older USB 2.0 thumb drive that lights up when being accessed that way I can tell if the motherboard flashing process is accessing it. A USB 3.0 would probably work too. Make sure to format it with FAT32.
    - After downloading the appropriate BIOS update file from MSI's website, make sure you Extract All (uncompress) the .zip file. Then I would recommend to look in File Explorer at the View settings tab, and make sure Details, File name extensions are ticked.
    - Fully rename the uncompressed BIOS update file to MSI.ROM and copy it to the now formatted, empty USB drive.
    - There is a USB port labeled on my motherboard for MFLASH which is where I inserted the USB drive into.
    - I powered on the PSU, verified the motherboard had power and then pressed the labeled Flash BIOS button. It started blinking and I also noticed the USB drive was being accessed.
    - Ultimately the LED for the Flash BIOS button stopped blinking and went off. Total time took around 6 to 7 minutes of time.
I won't know for 100% certainty if it it worked until I get my system fully assembled and a monitor hooked up -- still waiting on the CPU to show up, but I'm assuming the processes did work.

You could look on the support page to find out if that CPU was not supported by early versions and might give you a clue but that is a good possibility. You do not need to remove the components. Just turn on the power supply but do not boot the computer at any point. You will just have the power supply in the on position so when you push the Flash BIOS button it will do the update.

Hello, This was a great tutorial and process explaining everything but I have came up with a problem so basically I used the usb I got with my motherboard and that usb made the motherboard turn on and there’s a red light flashing where the USB ports are I can see it through the side kind of so I’m not sure if it’s not working or not but after 7 minutes the lights all turn off and then turn back on except for the flashing red lights and my motherboard still has a red dot next to cpu so I’m not sure what to do now as well as I tried another usb that I got from Best Buy and I asked them if it would work with my pc and they said it would but when I tried it sadly didn’t so now I’m very confused on what to do. I was wondering if you could give me a quick explanation on what I should do if your not sure I might have to take it to Best Buy, the reason I’m saying Best Buy is that my cousin works there and she said that they have a very good team that’s helpful with stuff like this so yea. But I don’t wanna keep spending money so I just wanna Finnish this myself.

Struggling with this process right now. MSI B650 Tomahawk Wifi and AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D. I was warned that I would most likely need to update the bios for compatibility with the CPU. Following these steps precisely, repeatedly, all I get is a white blinking light that never seems to end. Goes well past the 5-7 minute estimated timeframe.
I’ve also got the red CPU and yellow DRAM LED Debug lights lit up on my motherboard.

I have an MSI MPG X670E CARBON WIFI motherboard. I have the CPU, Ram, unformatted new m.2 hard drive, and case fans attached. I followed your instructions, and when I pressed the Flash Bios Button, it began flashing, along with the light on the USB drive, and all of the case fans lit up, and began spinning. After a few minutes, the Flash Bios Button stopped flashing, as did the USB drive, but everything else is still on, including the yellow and red lights that are on during bootup, and there is a C5 code showing on the board. I'll leave it alone for an hour or two to see if anything changes.

Can I use the msi thumbdrive that came with my board and format it to erase whatever files Msi put on them to update my bios? Or should it be a brand new clean thumbdrive? I dont know if everything will be truly erased on it which is what im thinking about and idk if I will mess up my bios using that thumbstick? My first build and I got it all built and gonna power it on for first time to do bios windows 11 etc. so I wanna have all my ducks in a row.
Also im a little confused about when you said if you have everything connected you do not wanna power on the psu during this process at 4:37? So do I follow the same steps except dont turn my psu on? I have my entire build put together and everything plugged in to their respective places on mobo and psu. Does this work without powering on my computer? I guess I dont understand. Id appreciate if you could help me with this cuz im scared. 😆 I havent booted it up yet at all so should I boot it at least once first to see if it "post" properly than shut it down and do bios update with no power? Followed the procedure to the letter. I only got flashing lights on the board and the USB drive for maybe twenty seconds. I didn't want to disturb anything just in case it was still processing the bios update but just not signaling it was doing so. I left it alone for about 10-15 minutes before turning the power off and unplugging everything. With that relatively brief signal from the process could something have gone wrong?
