My sister fell in love with Evanescence the first time she heard Bring Me to Life, and her love for the band is what got me into rock music. She passed away years ago, and this song has always held a really special place in my heart. I almost started crying when I saw that you posted this today, as today is my sister's birthday, she would be 22. You perfectly explained all the emotions I feel from this song. Thank you so much for your reaction.
🕯💗
I am so sorry about your sister. It almost seems like this was meant for you
I'm sorry for your loss.
So so sorry for your loss. I also lost someone very close to me in a very tragic way and this is all I’ve been left with. This song was a huge part of our life when he was here and now that he’s not…well you can imagine. Sending prayers and love to you💫
I am so sorry to hear about your sister. I hope you are doing okay today
This one is so haunting....Notice she never is able to touch the earth. She is a ghost held by him not letting go. Amy Lee's voice is so powerful with the emotion she sings with. This is simply amazingly beautiful. Amy Lee, vocal goddess!
It’s not about her sister. That song is called ‘Like You’
@@jenniferbargo389 Yes, I deleted my comment.
Wow I felt it was someone that passed on, but didn’t get that it could be her. She’s in white and doesn’t touch the ground. Omg. Thank you for clearing that up. I appreciate it
@@jenniferbargo389 she did write 'like you" about her sister but, according to my reading, Amy Lee started 'My immortal" about a lost friendship and Ben Moody helped her with the music and lyrics. Maybe it morphed during the creation. He also lost his grandfather but I don't know when. In 2003, I believe, he dedicated this song to his grandfather. However, Since Amy lee's sister died at the age of three, when amy was 6, this song was written well after that passing. It's about a loss via death. So, it could fit both losses in one way or another. It's inconceivable that Amy lee's sister wasn't in her mind when this song was finished with alot of help from ben Moody. It is conceivable that since ben had such a big hand in the song and dedicated the song to his grandfather, that she wasn't going to claim it was about her sister although many of the lyrics support that more than a loss of friendship. Both Ben and Amy had a loss that this song compliments. From an emotional impact, I will view it more of a song about the loss of her sister, ; has a greater impact to me. The children playing in the square also seems to support that considering that I hear the fountain square was in an area bombed during a war ( WWII?) and many children lost their lives. Along with 'wiping away your tears" and " chasing away your fears" --just seems to support the loss of a child more so.
When she is in the fountain she’s in Plaza de San Felipe Neri in Barcelona. In 1938 during the Civil War, a bomb exploded there and killed 42 people including lots of children, kindergarten children of the nursery that was near there. That’s why her singing there surrounded by kids is even more heartbreaking than the song itself.
Oh wow
Wow so sad 😢
Amy Lee’s voice alone can make anything haunting, it’s so incredible
This song was mostly written by ex-cofounder Ben Moody (guy on the piano), and Amy (singer) wrote the bridge. The song was mostly his and about his grandfather. Some people speculate it’s about Amy’s sister, who she lost when she was around 6 years old, but it’s not. ‘Hello’ and ‘Like You’ are about Amy’s sister.
People have been spreading so much misinformation about this song for so long - it just genuinely made me happy that someone passed on the actual facts😂 Thank you! (honestly & in the least condescending way possible!)
@@Kat_C95 I see it all the time-I just copy and paste this from a previous video I commented on ha
And "Even in death"?
I guess since the song is about the loss of someone important in your life there could be some element of truth about her sister but I guess Amy can be the only one that can say whether her sisters death influenced her at all with this song or how she sung it etc . I watch these to judge if the reactions are real and for the music not for the comments.
@@barrycarey7521 Ty for commenting
This video was recorded in Barcelona. Very nice locations. The small square where is her in the fountain with children, behind her there is a small church full of bullets marks from Civil War (Spain)
This truly one of the best songs ever. The vocals, the lyrics, the music and the imagery. 10/10
I get major goosebumps everytime i hear this... Amazing Song!!! I could tell that the Song got under your skin.
When I first heard this song. Reminded me of my brother that had passed back in 1991. Every time I listen to it it’s my brother in my mind.
For the "record": "The lyrics of the song refer to a spirit that haunts the memory of a grieving loved one. Similar to several other songs written by [Ben] Moody, the lyrics of the song are based on a short story he had previously written.[According to Lee, it was "Ben [Moody]'s song." Moody said that the song talks about "a spirit staying with you after its death and haunting you until you actually wish that the spirit were gone because it won't leave you alone." He also stated in the booklet of Fallen that he dedicated the song to his grandfather, Bill Holcomb. In "My Immortal", Lee expresses her feelings through the line, "Though you're still with me / I've been alone all along.A writer for IGN said that "'My Immortal' is a song of pain and despair caused by the loss of a family member or very close friend and how it drove her [Lee] to the edge of insanity." (source is wikipedia(dot)org)
The most precious part of the song for me is the end, where if you're quiet and listen, you can still hear the little. . . keyboard (?) noise in the back. I keep listening as it fades, becoming evanescent, I suppose. We lost a son, and I'll close my eyes and try to pull up his voice, his laugh, and it's much the same. In the end, it's not remembering someone that is upsetting. . . it's the fear of some day not remembering their smile, their footsteps, and the smell of their hair on your hands after you tousled it. Thank you so much for finding this one and for such a thoughtful video,
I love your stunned silence at the end. That reaction says more than words.
I was 21 when this song came out and GOING THROUGH IT! and I have heard it thousands of times and I still get goosebumps all throughout the song. It's one that you never stop appreciating, but it is still incredible to hear it through fresh ears vicariously. Thanks for the reaction!
Omg I’m so glad you did this reaction, I absolutely love Evanescence, I listend to their music all my childhood… please do “Going under”, it’s another really great song from them
You are literally one of the best reactors I've come across. Thank you sir.
I thought I was seeing things when this popped up hahaha... I was 21 when this was released in 2003. I feel so old! 😭
Still such a great song though! Goosebumps
Haha. I just turned 62. My KID just turned 37. I’ve been married for forty years!
The singer Amy Lee was also 21 when they released it
Evanescence album Fallen should be a display in Audio Museum. It's not just another album. It's an art. It takes you to the depth of your emotions and takes you to a Gothic world with blue cyan shade with dark clouds and sculptural buildings and Haunted lonely roads.... The idea of Rock with Epic strings and dubbed or lush piano that has no texture or technically High frequency... is mind blowing.
This song makes me cry every single time I hear it.
It's so sad, yet so powerful.
How I looove this song! Purely emotional and beautiful. ❤
I could literally see the moment where this song hit you and it was fantastic.
This an amazingly crafted piece of music all around. Simply perfect
Not every knows that they wrote this song aged 15 & 16yrs old! The maturity is amazing in the lyrics!❤
Amy Lee is one of the greatest vocalist in history. Please do more reactions. You can do one every week and we will love it. They released a new album in March of this year.
She is so gorgeous
she solos this playing the piano and great live, no autotune
This song makes the hair on my body stand up
Wow ... that song is old ... but gold. I have goosebumbs from childhood memories. Great reaction!
Everytime i hear this song it brings me back the memories when i was a kid and I didn't stop listening to this... You should react to Lithium too
This is the band version, there's another version that's even more haunting, because there's no band. I love them both, this one is very powerful, like a huge struggle between pain, sadness and anger, the other is pure sorrow, but both of them make me feel some sort of peace and release at the end. I met Evanescence because this song and Bring me to Life were featured in 2003's Daredevil.
One of my alltime favorite songs! 🖤
Your reaction is the correct one, very detailed, the way a Evanescence fan should be
You’re spot on as always. Amy Lee’s voice is ominous in the best possible way, if that even makes sense. I’m so happy you loved it. I was able to see this live, with Amy playing the piano and singing with a full orchestra behind her and it was one of the most memorable moments of my entire life! They’ve got some phenomenal newer stuff that you’d absolutely love, I’m just easing you in here, lol, that’s why I suggested this one first. I’ll talk to you more about it when I message you.
Thanks for doing it💫
This song put me in ALL my feels as a young adolescent when I absolutely could not relate to this depth of emotion and experience 😂 So hauntingly beautiful and powerful to this day 🖤
This has been my favourite song since I first heard it when I was 11 years old. The raw power and emotion just speaks to whatever pain is inside you and let’s you really feel it. So good.
This song is almost 20 years old now and came out when I was in my early 20's. It's a song that defiantly hits harder today. Back then, to me it was just a great song by an awesome singer, now it's a powerful emotional song. I can now relate to the lyrics, but not just towards a specific loss or relationship with someone, but towards my memories, my moments, and my mind. The older we get, the more the memories hurt, not just the sad and/or bad ones, like losing a loved ones, as I have lost both my parents over the last twelve years, but the good ones also, like having a wonderful childhood, first getting marriage, your children's births and them being young, these memories of life, moments of time, will never be as great as it once was, as certain moments that will never be experienced again like they were when we lived them. My memories, both happy and sad, are slowly killing me as I can't let go and depend on them so much.
Sorry they had to leave you, but it's a guarantee they are with you always.
I know what you are feeling man when she opens up with her beautiful vocals..
The official live version is amazing. Amy plays the grand piano on stage.
Just found your channel, great stuff! I've always loved this song.
Some songs are catchy, some songs pick you up, and some songs change you forever - My Immortal is the latter.
The video was shot in Barcelona. I was there while filming in Sant Felip Neri square (the one with the fountain and the church). It was amazing
Amy Lee’s Voice is Hauntingly Angelic
I remember I used to love this song so much!!! Such a good one
I heard "Bring Me To Life" on a Christian station as well. I am shocked that Amy's statement that they were not a Christian band and that caused the station to take it off the air. In any event, it is good to hear a Christian's take on this song. My feelings exactly
Amy straight up was like we have no religious or spiritual affliation to that kind of music. She was really big into Tori Amos at the time.
I love the way you react to thee stuff. I love the way you invest yourself in to everything you watch and react. That's rare and awesome.
Amy Lee has a very ethereal voice that touches your soul. 🎶💕🦋
I like the way you express yourself and how you can feel the songs. Nice
Evanescence it's my favourite band, thanks for react it
Your reaction videos are so good, especially this one! The very real emotion you were feeling listening to this amazing band and song was very touching and it was so obvious you were really hearing this with fresh ears. I appreciate so much your very honest and heartfelt reaction. I also totally agree that Amy Lee's voice is phenomenal--Evananesce is a great band! Thank you very much for this reaction.
OMG, more Evanescence pleeease
The live version is awesome too!!
This is by far the best reaction Video of this song ❤
kills me , over and over.
Stunningly beautiful.
Voice of an angel.
💔
I just headbanged with tears going down my cheeks 😆
What a wild song.
35 years ago today three of my children died in a car crash.
I understand exactly. This was one of the songs which helped me through the years which followed.
i just found this song it has so much emotion to it my friend played this on the piano i had the tone but no song to the tone but i found it!
the gem of it all, if that she's the ghost, if u see she never touches the ground throughout the whole video. damn
I just now thought maybe she is singing this about a child. She would wipe away his tears, fight all of his fears….held his hand through all of these years. I never thought of it before
So many incredible songs from Evanescence! Hello, Imaginary, Missing, Last Breath, Field of Innocence, Lithium... Too many to name them all, best to just go through ALL their songs 😊
Your channel is forever my favorite reaction channel! As always such a great, empathetic analysis
I really believe Amy has one of the greatest voices of the modern era. Just the most beautiful and powerful vocals in the last 25 years.
He gets it.... pure emotional pain... thats the song
This is by far their best song!!!
I lost my grandma early December last year and I can relate so much to “Your face it haunts, my once pleasant dreams” because I can’t stop dreaming about her and it’s infuriating and so frustrating.. this song is just so beautiful and heartbreaking..
more Evanescence!!!!
Great reaction and analysis. Amy Lee's voice is hauntingly ethereal.
She's an angel in this video. Note her feet never touch the ground. She has passed on but she can't let him go.
I bought the album right away after first hearing Bring Me To Life and when I found this song, I fell in love with this. I never expected that they would make a video of My Immortal. then when they finally released it, I was actually quite surprised when the whole band came out because in the album, this song is just piano.
The pure piano/vocals version of this song is, imo, far superior, far more emotional.
We saw her last November here in Texas, and it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. Her voice is amazing.
Thank you for making me feel a little less lonely tonight
That power bridge just before the band kick in gives me full body chills every time.
Such an awesome song. 👍😊👏
Man this is the most on point description ive seen in a reactor, amazing.
This is my cry song. This song hits me so freaking hard and the melody is just… woah
This song always gets me. Thank you for doing this!
There was a time I was obsessed with reactions to this song/video. I must have watched all of them on youtube.
I'm way pass that time.
This reaction just popped up on my suggested videos after having watched your reaction to Zombie early on.
This was probably the best reaction to this video I have watched so far.
Congratulations on the great content.
I hope the algorithm doesn't flood my feed with My Immortal again. I have work to do...
I listened to this song while watching the widow of a Marine Hero laying at his coffin the night before his service. WOW, talk about tears rolling and feeling the depth of this song in all it's meaning. Such a great video and truly displaying what it could mean for someone. I have never cried so much.
I was listening to your comments and a student of mine (I’m a psychologist) said almost the same as you. I gave him an A+ because the important thing I wanted them to understand is that tragedy and loss doesn’t necessarily mean death. So, A+ for you too 🙂

This song gives me chills every time I listen to it
We played this song at my mums funeral. Growing up I was the "Alt-Kid" in the family and showed my mum this song and she loved it. she used to listen to it all the time and when she knew she was dying she asked for this song to be played so we did and new everytime I hear it I think of her.
Over here just making your way through my middle school playlist and I’m LIVING for it
Love this. Your response to this wasn't response the first time I heard it so many years ago and I still love it now!♥️
Another great reaction! I had to deal with a lot of grief last year and I can relate so well to the lyrics, this song usually always makes me cry. It is a very emotional and powerful song I think.
Best review I have heard
This is a core memory song for me. Back in high school I was taking a vocal course, a number of us got together and sang this song at a talent show, we watched as numerous students and staff cried by the end of it
Thank you for this reaction. Never thought I'd see a first watch to this one from anyone I really respect and like again since it's so old. You said it very well, and I had same exact thoughts back when it came. 🤗
I just subscribed because of your sincerity of this reaction to this song....
Amy Lee is definitely one of a kind...I believe she could sing the phone book and we would cry....
Call Me You’re Sober is an excellent sing and video by them.
Melhor reação que assisti, abraços from Brazil.
She just has a voice like...even if it was in another language & I didn't know what she was saying, Id still cry. So beautiful 😢
You're spot on. You must be a very sensitive guy. I'm 62 next month, and this is still the most beautiful ballads ever. And I've heard a few in my life.
One of her best songs and it never gets old for me. I also like Hello and definitely October. So beautiful..I hope you can listen to them too..💞
This is a perfect song
I love this song with all my heart.
It always going to be in my top 5 favorites songs of all time.
Such an amazing melody and Amy Lee voice is unbelievable. ❤
Eyyy, similar childhood :D
Im not crying, YOU'RE crying!
Great reaction! I would love to see you react to some more of their music, this band is just so awesome
I've always loved Evanescence... and Amy Lee has a gorgeous voice
The version of this on the Fallen album this came from doesn't have the rock part at the end, the final chorus has the piano and violin playing the parts which are replaced by the guitars in the single version
Amy Lee is amazing.... her voice is just.... whew. Love this song! Love Evanescence.
This is song is beautiful 😭I hope you react to more of Evanescence, Lithium or Call me when your sober
Thanks for your reaction video. You can see that you suffer with the song.
In "My Immortal" everything is still painful for love. Take a look at "Call me when you're sober". There are no phrases but the text is absolutely straight to the point.
Keep up the good work, look forward to more videos from you!
Very perceptive comments. An awesome music video. One of the best of all time. Thank you, Amy❤️
This is my all time fav, Amy's voice, the words, the feeling, the emotion. Sometimes too much.
