This song was written about her little sister who passed, and she misses so much that she sometimes feels haunted by her memory because she isn't here anymore and that pains her. It's such a bittersweet beautiful song.
You’re crying, I’m crying, we’re all crying lol. This song and her voice so powerful and penetrating to the soul to surely get you broken open to the quick.

I could have just been blasting Slipknot or Motorhead or something heavy, just being all amped up, then this song rolls up on my mp3 rotation and it'll always put me on a knee.
Yeah, Amy Lee’s songs and singing always seem to convey a very real pain and a melancholy coming from really deep inside. Same thing here, doesn’t matter if I was blasting some tech death or prog, this always gets me.
This is one of those tunes that always punches me in the feels. Kinda gets me on a personal level. It 100% can be from anyone's perspective. With multiple meanings from individual to individual.
Any Lee is 100% stunning.....beautiful woman, a voice that just stops you in your tracks...still to this day gives me goosebumps, absolutely incredible ❤️❤️
Over the last couple of years, I had the absolute joy of seeing them twice with an orchestra. This song, with a full orchestra playing is.....beyond words.

*Her name is "pain," and her voice makes your heart want to burst!* Yet there is an uncommon melancholy beauty that haunts your very soul. Powerful stuff!
That line "...though you're still with me, I've been alone all along" kills me every time. Especially with this song being out around when I lost my papa to cancer & I never resonated with a lyric more than having to go on without him around. The person I was closest to in my family being lost to cancer at 12 put me in a deep depression. I still struggle with depression and any milestone has been very bittersweet with him not being there.
Staci McDaniel it can be interpreted how ever you see it of course, but when the band has spoken about the song itself they say it’s like begging for this “presence” to go away after it haunting them for so long. so that’s how i’ve always seen her in this video 😊
Such a powerful & emotional song. Every time I hear the lyrics "Though you're still with me , I've been alone all along", it is seriously hard to fight back tears.
The word I use for Amy’s UNBELIEVABLE voice is ethereal. She has pipes!! She actually wrote this song at 15 years of age. Not only does she have 1 of the best voices in the entire world, but she is absolutely stunningly gorgeous!! Multi talented!!!
Awww Evanescence!!! I remember when they first debuted, I was probably like going into middle school, I love them so much. Amy lee will forever be my favorite female singer, she’s so talented!
Same! My best friend and I first heard them on the radio in 6th grade, fell in love with the songs and proceeded to listen to the "Fallen" album on repeat. To the point we both sunk into a depression and had to take a loooong break from indulging in the music again. Recently I popped in that beloved CD during a road trip and could still sing along to all the songs. I texted her and said "Dude, guess what I was listening to." She had, coincidentally, just finished hearing one of the songs. Lots of memories of our younger dorky, goofball, and angsty, teen years.
The first time I heard this song was after my youngest brother committed suicide in 2010. A friend of his made a video collage of him with this as the background music and posted it on UA-cam. I cried like a baby. I still have to wipe away the tears every time I hear it.
When I first had this song I was going through a permanent break up with my now ex-wife (90% my fault). I couldn't listen to it without crying. Evanescence became one of my favourite bands
The line “though you’re still with me I’ve been alone all along” defined the last few years of my marriage. This song is perfect and really helped me through that time.
Joe Smith “you can go or you can stay but I won’t love you either way”... damn! If only my ex had been that honest I could have saved a few wasted years. Yes, that song would have hit pretty hard back in 2013 or so for sure.
@@sherrywilliams8746 How many times I felt this way in a relationship I knew was bound to end badly. She used to ask me why I never asked her to marry again after I caught her cheating and stealing from me, it was because the trust was gone and I was alone in the relationship so often, being to only one who was in love. This song, Bonnie Raitt's "I can't make you love me" , Brooks & Dunn, "You're Gonna Miss me when I'm Gone" and Tom Petty, "You Got Lucky(When I Found You)" used to make me cry and make her so angry when I sung along.
