yeah annoyingly I got a golden doodle from these “breeders” and he’s 5 months and isn’t potty trained, crate trained, and hadn’t gotten his shots. got his shots but now we have to train him for basics
Got a boxer today 8 weeks old I could understand the breeders were elderly but they made no effort to toilet train or crate train the pups, every time I bring him out spend 15-20 minutes walking him around the garden and nothing within a minute of returning indoors he takes a dump I’ll take him back outside another 10 minutes to see if there’s anything else and the minute I bring him back in he pees, I know that perseverance will prevail but it’s infuriating that I have to cokes him outside let alone retrain bad habits, all 5 pups grew up in a kitchen and don’t see grass as a viable toilet😅😂
This is very true. My GSD is 8 months old and from the 2nd day we brought him home we started crate training. He LOVES when I say “crate” because he knows an ice cube is coming as payment! 😂
Same! My boy is now 8 months. Curious if you trained in intervals? It was recommended to me at 8 weeks to put them in for 2 hours and leave them out 1 so we did that. He’s now in for about an hour and out for 4, but we have never left him to roam the house and I’m not sure how to get there. Fully potty trained and has never chewed up furniture but I’m not sure how long we could leave him out or how to get to that point. Want to eventually get to only sleeping in the crate at night or when he wants to.
Wow I always spend time with my dogs and NEVER needed a crate except when a puppy. How about actually treating them like family. Called spend time with them

Nice tip but you could also make a video on how to correct bad behavior in a crate of course you don’t have to since you are giving out free advice. It’s just I see this tip so often but no one talks about the fact that you will have to put your puppy in a crate before they get used to it. When you go to the store, go to bed or need to safely transport them in your car you will have to crate your puppy. So while it’s great to take the positive approach it’s not all that realistic. You can’t wait 5-7 days for your puppy to really enjoy the crate before closing the door. So knowing how to correct crate barking and whining is just as important. You want the crate to be a positive experience but you still need to have rules.
Noticing this a lot. Throw treats in there, and make it positive. Well when you first pick up a dog they are so stressed they don't care to eat treats. I tried that with the puppy I picked up last night, and he just sniffed at them, and continued whining.
I’m so glad my dogs both instantly loved their crates. Although one did not like a specific wire crate we used at first but once we switched it out, to on more like the one in the video, he loved it.
Remember to always put them in 20 mins or so before you leave. Turn on, relax my dog UA-cam on the phone, and gather your keys, purse coat, etc, or anything that gets them going. This shows that those sounds don't mean you leave right away. Drains that intensity. Gives them a chance to slowly acclimate to being separated from you. Remember, we did this to ourselves when we domesticated them. Dogs in the wild stay together. It goes against their instincts.
Every night my 1 year old dog still gets a treat after she goes in her crate for the night even though she doesnt need the reinforcement. I say "bed" and she runs to it happily. The treat after I close the crate and say "goodnight" is just a day ending ritual
Soon as I got my husky we trained him up since we had plans of leaving Australia for Japan during Covid19. Paid off well, 9.5 hours and didn’t poop or pee. Basically was his bed at night for 6 months 😂
My puppy already had been crate trained before I got him because they were really good breeders to desensitize vacuum, saw, dropping metal bowl, nothing makes him afraid but a car ((giant shiny monster I would understand))
If you don’t put the dog in their crate right away, where do they sleep until they are comfortable with it? Also, I’ve heard friends say their puppy cries all night for 3 weeks straight. Is that normal?

I recently bought a dog house for my rescued dog (2 yrs old). But she's super fearful of everything new and refuse to go near it. I've tried putting treats and her toys in it, I put her dog bowl near it and she just won't go near it. Any ideas?
I got my puppy at 5 weeks and he slept so much I just put him in there every time he fell asleep, 5 days later and he would go in there by himself just to hangout or take rest
The crate should be big enough for the dog to lay down on it's side and let it's legs stretch out completely, and tall enough for the dog to stand up without hitting it's head. If the space isn't restricted properly in the beginning, the dog will go to the bathroom in one corner, then just lay down in the opposite corner. This is because, if given too much room to roam (including in the house), only where they sleep is "home/den", and all the other space is "outside/not home" and they will do their business there. This is why, when some dogs roam the house, they will go in the one room you never let them go into... because to them that room is not home.
I'm having trouble finding treats my puppy likes. I've tried a whole bunch of different kinds, and I've even tried little bits of rotisserie chicken 🤦 this is an unexpected complication
Well…. They do the exact same thing right? Keep what ever is inside the crate inside the crate so they can't escape? If jails were open fields Noone would stay. Soooo yeah
Oops I just tell my puppy to go lay down and kept saying “nooo” very sweetly until he found his crate and now every time I say go lay down he runs to his crate and try’s to close the door

@@KatScratches that’s why dogs are meant to be outside in a fenced area with space to run around. Great until you stop the treat giving. I’m frustrated teaching my 4 month old pit bull. She will NOT do anything unless I give her a treat. I don’t always have treats. I’m frustrated and ready to quit.
When you have a puppy that needs to be supervised while youre at work because i.e. the pup chews on things, a crate is the best option until you come home and start working with your puppy.
Crate training is grea😢if you CAN'T TEACH THEM TO BE FAMILY MEMBERS. Crate training is for moving in a van. Otherwise it's called lazy, not teaching to be alone. Except for the VERY FEW who were mistreated and need it. People TRAIN your animals like children. Or get insurance
the same reason you have to leave a baby in its crib when you’re doing something. its for their safety, they’ll rip, eat, and just get everywhere they aren’t supposed to. it also teaches your dog to be still, if you’re at a long red light and your puppy gets impatient, it can lead to bad things. lastly, crates are usually what is used to transfer dogs. to the vet or wherever, its just good to not have to worry about as much as usual
@@mikeymoore6269 excellently put. Thank you. I will also add that along with all this great information, I have also found that dogs are naturally den animals and the crate gives them a sense of safety. That was what tripped the switch for me and I was OK thinking about it as a good tool.
@@BeNiceToday2 yes exactly, probably the most important factor honestly.actually because of that i teach my nieces and nephews to never use the cage as place to send them for a punishment. people often do so and it rids them of that comfortability they find in it. they believe, “this is where i go when im bad” and thats the last thing we need.
I never understood crates. Id never leave my dog alone if there wasnt someone at home at all times. Id also not get a dog if i had to leave it home all the time. Even at night they sleep wherever they feel most comfortable and least hot /cold. U can also have a dog thats not clingy and destructive by training not by imprisoning them.
My pup spent every night in crate when young. After couple months became destructive. Switched to larger crate and x pen. Could not leave him in crate from then on. Bad advice to get him to like crate again. Destroyed two crates and howls, barks, scratches and freaks no matter how long you leave him alone.😢😢😢😢

Great until you stop the treat giving. I’m frustrated teaching my 4 month old pit bull. She will NOT do anything unless I give her a treat. I don’t always have treats. I’m frustrated and ready to quit.
It's not the dog it's me I get anxious when my puppy is 'confined' idk how to shake it
I never understood the reason for the crate. My dog has a nice bed. I say bed and she’s goes and layers down.
When you have a puppy that needs to be supervised while youre at work because i.e. the pup chews on things, a crate is the best option until you come home and start working with your puppy.
Im having such a hard time 😢
That particular crate looks like the back of a paddy wagon or a segregation jail cell lol poor dog
That crate looks like a prison
Of course your dog going to freakout look at that crate it looks like a goddamn prison
That looks like a prison not a crate lol
Why use crates at all? Seems cruel to jail pups. Please educate me.
the same reason you have to leave a baby in its crib when you’re doing something. its for their safety, they’ll rip, eat, and just get everywhere they aren’t supposed to. it also teaches your dog to be still, if you’re at a long red light and your puppy gets impatient, it can lead to bad things. lastly, crates are usually what is used to transfer dogs. to the vet or wherever, its just good to not have to worry about as much as usual
What if your dog won’t follow the treat inside?
Looks like a jail
Lol do you know what jail is
Looks like jail
Or you can train them to behave without the crate :) tired of seeing dogs locked up in crates for 10-16 hours a day it’s pathetic
That’s abuse spending hours in a little box 😢
hahaha what is wrong with you?
Yea that’s what happens when u say crate pffftttt
