Quick word on Kaioken: It is not a transformation. It is a power-up. It will not be part of this series BUT I will give it its own video in the future, probably as a Dragon Ball In Depth video.
I just remembered Hitler or "dictator" in Fusion Reborn noticing Goten and Trunks turn Super Saiyan and saying that he should hire them because they have blond hair and blue eyes😂
I think Toriyama's inspiration on the Super Saiyans is from Hitler and the Nazi ideology about the Aryan race with the pale skin, blond hair, and blue eyes. Obviously, he would never admit it and say he came up with it a different way, but if you look up how they talk about Super Saiyans and the Aryan race, you'll notice the similarities.

Definitely had to put my 2 cents in on this one. “The power comes in response to a need, not a desire” “you must create that need, use the pain of lost.” If you complete the quote, what Goku is stating is a traumatic stress event that causes you to react to a situation vs, thinking up by just desiring something. Goku didn’t desire anything when he turned SSJ for the 1st time. He snapped, watching his best friend murdered after he gave everything he had with the spirit bomb. Goku was not only emotionally triggered, he was backed into a corner and he reacted in response ... that is what triggered his SSJ transformation. Which transformation is metaphorically in reality what we gain through that traumatic experience. We are never the same person again. Which originally when the SSJ was 1st introduced is why I feel in love with Dragonball. It took training, hard work and the emotional struggle through a traumatic experience to transform and change ourselves to be better, to be greater. And as the years gone by, the watered the transformation down for the simple pleasure of entertaining the kids for today... with this tingle bullshit and S-cells.
That is fair. But the idea of actually being a cellular thing makes sense when explaing why the kids can transform and why a ssj hasnt appeared ever. Like you would think someone would reach the emotional level goku was. Backed against a wall. No options. A whole race and no one felt that? And secondly it was proven that you dont need a high power level to reach that point. Unless your vegeta who doesnt have that many s cells. He literally mutated his s cells. Its also why it took him so long. When realistically vegeta has been where goku has plenty of times before. Especially on namek. The og transformations are the best no question there. But how you explain when a kid transforms? And whenever someone transformed without that anger. Its obviously you using ki in a different way. So when dbs explained how you transformed every single time. Are you angered every time? Do you just remember that moment? It doesnt help alot when you think about it. It isnt magically there is a reason involving your ki. So explain that. What are you doing with your ki. Its actually really interesting.
Nothing beats the first Super Saiyan transformation. When it happened it was unexpected and really otherworldly. I never assumed it was a colouring, since energy cannot be destroyed only transformed into another type of energy I always assumed that the sheer amount of energy needed to be a ssj was radiating out of their bodies and transforming into light... it's also what I think the aura that they have are... biological potential energy transforming into atmospheric heat and light

10:20 - The way I always saw this was that the transformation is triggered by focusing your ki on your solar plexus chakra, but that there are two ways to do it. When you get angry you automatically and instinctively focus your ki there. Whereas, if you just know what you're doing and you're powerful enough, you can also simply choose to focus your ki there. This would also explain why the saiyans first can't become super saiyans at will but once they've experienced it for the first time they can learn to turn it on and off at will without requiring the same level of anger. Because once they experience the feeling of their anger concentrating their power in their solar plexus chakra, they know that's what you have to do. And so in the future they can learn to replicate that feeling with skill alone to transform at will. So, essentially, both would be doing the same thing but one instinctually while the other requires experience (or someone to tell you what the experience is like) and skill.

Yes!!! I’ve been waiting on this latest episode of the transformation guide! Been loving these series ! Keep it up, honestly can’t wait for god (red) my favorite form
Honestly I really like the whole S-cells thing. It explains the concept of Super Saiyan and also explains why none of the original Saiyans on planet Vegeta could transform and yet Goten and Trunks could. They likely inherited a lot of S-cells from their fathers. It's likely the rage thing causes Saiyans to tap into their S-cells, almost like a short cut.
Your narrations are always consistent; I love that! Compliment all a this with your radical videographic displays and you're literally one of a kind, Geekdom!

I think a good way to reconcile the back tingling feeling is that in Universe 6 that's how you achieve the form. In Universe 7 it's through training and usually through trauma, but neither universe can use the others path, they can only use their own.
hey you make awesome videos man! Very informative. I never fully understood the whole SS transformation thing before like why it only happened to certain Saiyans and not others but your explanation totally makes sense...thanks for clearing it all up for me!! Peace out ;D
I still don´t get what S-cells contradict, i think they work perfectly, can someone give an actual example of a contradiction regarding S-cells? Great video by the way.
I think it's the fact that it originally took rage to transform, but the s-cells say the opposite. But even so, i do think it makes sense how s-cells work.
@@michaelsong3733 Well, as far as i know, S-cells do not deny that rage is needed to transform, it is just that if you have a lot of S-cells, you don´t need it, but if you don´t have so many, like Goku and Vegeta, you´ll need rage to trigger it. Also, Goku and the other saiyans were the ones who assumed you needed rage, but they´re not scientists, they were talking out of experience and empirical knowledge. It´s just like Goku saying that Broly "MIGHT" be even stronger than Beerus, he thinks he MIGHT be, but he doesn´t really know.
Michael Song A gentle person such as Gohan has low power but when he gets angry, his power explodes breaking limits he never shown before. S-Cells in this case is probably dormant energy that the body’s limiters need to experience before being capable of handling that strength. Turning into a Super Saiyan is an example of that even at the expense of a physical change via black hair turning gold, a small body becoming muscular to the point the body glows gold as well.
How I would've had it: U7 Saiyans going Super Saiyan: A spark that goes through your mind. U6 Saiyans going Super Saiyan: The tingly feeling on the back.
Pretty crazy I’ve been watching you since I was like 14 and now Im all grown up and have a baby, it’s always been the best place to go to get info on db, you do a very great job keep up the amazing work.
I love the part in the destroyer tournament after cabba turned ssj, that Vegeta left himself completely open for attack and closed his eyes and just smiled while Cabba punched him straight in the face.... Great episode 💯
I live in south GA and let me tell you there are people who are completely oblivious to any kind of anime, no idea what a super saiyan looks like or could even begin to have ideas. Couldn't tell you what goku looks like.
Except the midichlorian in star wars amounted to nothing and didn't contradict lore. Anakin was the chosen one with the highest midichlorian count. Did he skip and got unreasonable power boosts? No. He was talented and skilled but he wasn't the best in the jedi order. Yoda was still stronger than him with centuries of experience and age. So was sidious.
Awesome video Geekdom. Thanks for everything you do. One thing though. Wasn’t it stated that one of the criteria’s for becoming a Super Saiyan was to first surpass your normal Saiyan limitations? Back when Goku was doing the gravity training in the space pod, the narrator said that all the training Goku did allowed him to break his normal limitations of power as a Saiyan. (This is DragonBall Kai by the way). Sort of like what Saitama did that allowed him to become so strong. This explains why Goku didn’t become a Super Saiyan when he was a kid. He didn’t break his Saiyan limiter. So I always thought that in order to to transform, you have to surpass your limitations in base form, and then experience extreme emotional distress. Captain Ginyu estimated that Goku’s actual power level was somewhere in the realm of 60,000, even though it was really at 90,000. So maybe the limit for most Saiyans biologically peaks at anywhere from 60,000 - 90,000. Probably a bit below 60,000 though. If I’m wrong, then I’m wrong. My apologies for the length of this comment.
George means "earthworker": George Lucas is a mole. JK is short for "Just Kidding": JK Rowling is fooling around. Tori is japanese for bird: Toriyama acts like a bird brain. Don't let them fool you! The truth is out there!
“In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” “In his days may the righteous flourish, and peace abound, till the moon be no more!” “And he said, 'O man greatly loved, fear not, peace be with you; be strong and of good courage. GOD bless
4:33 - I know it's of dubious canonicity, but I honestly always thought the idea that it comes from a need and not a desire was one of the best things about the super saiyan trasnformation.
I always looked at it as the later Super Saiyans having witnessed and felt the power of the transformation had a baseline on what to do and imitate. The first Super Saiyan after so long was the right circumstances of randomly putting a complex puzzle together, with some knowing it goes together, but no one really knowing what the picture looks like. With everyone after Goku, they know what the picture looks like and have an idea how to train to get there. With Califla, she simply looked at it only from the perspective of matching and imitating Ki energy, not from imitating the emotional state to naturally get there. Kind of like someone learning the moves of Kung Fu by simply learning the moves who is a natural at it, and completely disregarding the emotional calmness of Mr. Miyagi is teaching. That's how I look at it at least.
I always thought you had to surpass a certain power limit to achieve Super Sayian. Around 90,000, just going off Goku’s base power on Namek. The tingling feeling is exclusive to Universe 6 Sayians.
I'm glad you made a video on this most of this stuff I knew and due to the red con I began to change my views from a legend to some story telling. So thanks for the awesome video and you answered a few of my questions.
I get the same vibes as the Star Wars retcon, but it doesn’t bother me in the same way. I kinda like the explanation of a more peaceful environment creating more opportunities for a transformation to happen. It also (kinda) justifies how Bardock randomly became a Super Saiyan in his weird time travel special. That was a peaceful time for him, even if it was brief. Not to say I like that special, but it makes more sense now and I guess that’s what counts.
I always thought the transformation arose due to having a certain amount of strength, essentially as strong as Goku was when he fought Frieza, and some sort of emotional duress. Vegeta trained, became stronger than Goku was when he fought Frieza, and transformed. Future Trunks and kid Gohan were definitely strong enough, seeing as how at that point being as strong as Frieza wasn't much of an accomplishment. I highly doubt it's in any way far fetched to say Goten and Trunks were far stronger than Frieza when they transformed offscreen. Now, their "emotional duress" is debatable, but they were kids, so emotional duress from their perspective can be something as simple as getting punched in the damn face by your mom.
Super saiyan 1 in my opinion is the best transformation out of all the transformations. Watching goku be the first saiyan in history to achieve the form will always be my childhood highlight.
Understanding one's self and being in control of ones emotions to the point where you can draw out great power definitely is someone with strong real world martial arts underpinnings. However, the whole S-cell thing is one retcon Toriyama probably should not have made to explain how certain people of achieve the power earlier in life and easier. It is easier to think of it as being something passed down genetically with each generation able to achieve power greater than the last. It is more likely that the thing needed to turn into a super saiyan reliability is a genetic trait that represents an evolutionary step forward from the saiyan race as a whole. As this genetic trait is passed down through the generations, turning super saiyan would require less and less effort. The problem is that the bloodline with the trait has to survive long enough to reach the point where the trait can manifest itself in someone. Because of the saiyans' warrior nature and need to fight this probably lead to many of those who could have had the trait dying before it could be passed on causing it to become something that was extremely rare among existing saiyans.
The S-Cells thing actually make perfect sense if you ask me. The more S-Cells the easier it is for the Saiyan to evolve into a Super Saiyan. I think S-Cells simply stand for Saiyan Cells. The more S-Cells you got, the stronger the Saiyan traits. Someone like Broly would then have a shit ton load of S-Cells. I assume the color of S-Cells are Green in nature. Which would explain why Broly has Green hair & Aura in his Legendary Super Saiyan form, which is said to be the True Super Saiyan form.
@@livingashtree1942 Yeah, but what determines how many you have is the issue. I believe Geekdom said that they are created by being gentle and that by being *violent* they decrease. This means that the more you fight, the harder the transformation should be or the weaker it should be which does not seem to be the case. Toriyama should not have gone into a deeper explanation of S-cells as it made the idea sound silly.
Rage raises one's power, canonically, even without a transformation. Theres evidence of that literally everywhere. The way it works is that theres a power ceiling at which the transformation becomes possible, where you can unlock it by luck, or by instruction, and another power ceiling where the boost from rage makes it inevitable.
I don't get why people have issues with S-Cells & Midichlorians... Don't think of it as being explained with science, but rather, being able to scientifically notice some physical aspect of mystical/spiritual things...
Midichlorians set hard limits on who could become jedi and how powerful they could become. That's why it sucks. We didn't need to know that Yoda was much more naturally strong than obi wan but Darth Vader was much stronger than that. Power levels are kind of bullshit and master roshi has proven that a few times. Obi wan proved it too
Before I actually started watching dbz I was so confused why people kept calling so many different dudes Goku ... like that not Goku he has a tail. And black hair. And eyebrows. Wtf?
I preferred it back when a character had to work and be pushed to their emotional limits to become super-saiyan. Each time a character achieved the form for the first time it was a defining moment for them and the culmination of a character arc. I hated how Goten and Kid Trunks could just do it and how Goku just pulled SSJ3 out of his ass with no buildup or character development involved.
Another good one!!! I was just chillinn.... listing... n thought now we going to ssg and... nope ahhaha keep up the good work. check u on next one. bless
@geekdom101 good job informing your audience of the importance of the original ssj’s. Haha about your explanation of gotten and trunks super saiyan.. that is pretty much how kids in my age group thought , we watched z back in the early 2000’s lol
I really enjoyed your video but I think you forgot to mention the multiplier of Super Saiyan which is at least 50x base maybe more for Mastered Super Saiyan but I guess you’ll mention it in another video or something
I think that all you need to do is you have to do the tingly feeling. Maybe when they’re angry at those moments they transformed is because they somehow unconsciously focused all their energy on their back. Caulifla just managed to do that without the anger. The s-cells help to achieve it easier and makes you don’t need as much effort
I do think the argument that there are separate ways of obtaining Super Saiyan is pretty relevant. Because my mom and I got into kinesiology after my dad passed away, as it not only helped us cope with the roller-coaster of emotions that we experienced afterwards, but helped us understand ourselves more and more. And one way of us knowing what's going on within is something called "Muscle-testing". Not so much a stress test, but by having someone lightly push down on your arm to see if it gives or not (if it gives, it's a yes) is a good way to get your body (and therefore, your subconscious) a simple yes or no question about what's going on and what you actually need. But after years of learning more and more about Muscle-testing, we learned there are simpler ways to do it on your own. For me, my current preferred way is when I ask myself a yes or no question, I feel a sort of rush or flex in my head if it's a yes. I know that probably sounds like bullshit to you guys, but honestly, kinesiology is based on Eastern medicine which has everything to do Hinduism, which is basically the source for all the powers in stuff like _Dragon Ball, Star Wars,_ and _Avatar: The Last Airbender._

@8:25 - I've always believed that Goku & Vegeta's DNA had undergone a "mutation" when they achieved Super Saiyan, thereby passing it along via their genes to Goten & Trunks respectively. It just made good sense to me.
I think the dumbest thing was when they said in Super you can go super saiyan when you feel a tingle in your back and focusing that energy...blew my mf mind 🤯🤪🤦♂️

Concise, informative, well made, and of course enjoyable.
Great job as always Geekdom.
Super Saiyan The OG Transformation Of Saiyan's.
@@vsauce_johnny2516 I guess
Your narrations are always consistent; I love that! Compliment all a this with your radical videographic displays and you're literally one of a kind, Geekdom!
My favorite series that you've done. Great job!
Not been too much over been interested in lately but this video was classic quality Geekdom material - more informative thorough and peppered with video and fan service still shots. Keep it up Geekdom
My favorite Saiyan form is probably Super Saiyan 2 and Broly Ozaroo power.

And super Saiyan 4
Love this vid geekdom but I just wanna mention I lovedddd the video on worldofgeekdom that you just put up about your parents, you’re one of the strongest souls I’ve seen thru social media keep your head up and be strong brother keep bringing the fire content
Thank you!
I think a good way to reconcile the back tingling feeling is that in Universe 6 that's how you achieve the form. In Universe 7 it's through training and usually through trauma, but neither universe can use the others path, they can only use their own.
This is easily my new favorite series you’ve done
At this point if you don’t know what SSJ is then you should just stop....
William Alex no need to explain it bro , true fans know that much
I still dont kno wwhat a ssj is
Before I even know what super saiyan was, my first dragonball toy was super saiyan goku fron the bandi collection
@huhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh well he's just trying to get more views, it's called Milking
What's ssj? A burrito?
hey you make awesome videos man!
ChronosLawliet123 I havent watched the vid yet I think S-Cells is inheriting cells from ancestors.
@@michaelsong3733 how exactly does it contradict? It only says one needs a gentle spirit to increase it.
How I would've had it:
U7 Saiyans going Super Saiyan: A spark that goes through your mind.
U6 Saiyans going Super Saiyan: The tingly feeling on the back.
Goten: Mommy! Trunks stole my candies!
**turns Sūppa Saiyajin*
Chichi: Ah shit, here we go again.
Pretty crazy I’ve been watching you since I was like 14 and now Im all grown up and have a baby, it’s always been the best place to go to get info on db, you do a very great job keep up the amazing work.
I never bielived that u need a pure heart to be super sayain cause this universes sayains majority are no where near pure of heart😂
Mizz Infamous or ya know just make your back feel tingly.
Goku has a pure heart that's why devil man couldn't kill him with his ultimate attack that makes evil in a person explode
Finally a channel that gets me!
5:42 "S-cells"? Great, now Saiyans have midichlorian count too??
Welp with S-Cells he's now up there with George Lucas and JK Rowling.
Oof
George means "earthworker": George Lucas is a mole.
JK is short for "Just Kidding": JK Rowling is fooling around.
Tori is japanese for bird: Toriyama acts like a bird brain.
Don't let them fool you! The truth is out there!
@@Ivi-Tora Huh?
It's a tingling feeling on your back, according to DBS.
“In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” “In his days may the righteous flourish, and peace abound, till the moon be no more!” “And he said, 'O man greatly loved, fear not, peace be with you; be strong and of good courage.
GOD bless
G-MONEY!!!!!
ALWAYS A PHENOMENAL VIDEO MY DUDE!!!!
So, with S-Cells Toriyama went full midichlorian...
Man, you never go full midicholrian.
Thank you for this new series Geekdom. It has been great so far.
4:33 - I know it's of dubious canonicity, but I honestly always thought the idea that it comes from a need and not a desire was one of the best things about the super saiyan trasnformation.
It kinda makes sense. Vegeta felt like he needed to be stronger than goku, trunks felt like he needed to avenge gohan and save the future, etc.
I clicked this expecting a 40-something minute video. Good on you for keeping it short and sweet!
Bro I remember when I was a little kid I was desperate to be a super saiyan 😂 I had dreams I would power up and shit 😂
The tingling feeling is exclusive to Universe 6 Sayians.
well if you count bardock going super sayian he had a power level of like 10,000 which is like sayian saga goku so kinda debunks that if u count tht
I'm glad you made a video on this most of this stuff I knew and due to the red con I began to change my views from a legend to some story telling. So thanks for the awesome video and you answered a few of my questions.
Lets just face it Toriyama easily forgets stuff, he will probably retcon all of this in the next Dragon Ball show.
Congratulations on hitting 600,000 subscribers Geekdom101!

a lot of juice
Emphasis on "juice"
*plenty of juice*
ive been saying this all day.
I waz going to say alot of meat
I get the same vibes as the Star Wars retcon, but it doesn’t bother me in the same way. I kinda like the explanation of a more peaceful environment creating more opportunities for a transformation to happen. It also (kinda) justifies how Bardock randomly became a Super Saiyan in his weird time travel special. That was a peaceful time for him, even if it was brief. Not to say I like that special, but it makes more sense now and I guess that’s what counts.
Weren't the SSJ eyes originally supposed to be red?
Yup!
I love most of your uploads
Bro keep up the good work💖
I always thought the transformation arose due to having a certain amount of strength, essentially as strong as Goku was when he fought Frieza, and some sort of emotional duress.
@@dragonslayer2107 S-cells don't decrease by violent. Being gentle simply gives their body the time to cultivate S-cells.
@@livingashtree1942 Then maybe I misunderstood what he said in the video. If so then you are right.
I have been anticipating this video sooooooo long!!
S-Cells, also known as Midichlorians.
@DarrellCovello I Just Thought of the Fact that S Cells are Dragonball's Version of Midichlorians
Yes! This video is FINALLY OUT!😆
Love you man. Keep the content coming!!
Becoming a super saiyan has become milestone and right of passage for saiyans
Dope video bro
Hey geekdom, Are you sure the saiyan transformation isn't a curse? 😂😂😂
Animegirl pun intended🤣😂🤣
Excellent job geekdom! 👍
Obi wan proved it too
IVE WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS VIDEO
Before I actually started watching dbz I was so confused why people kept calling so many different dudes Goku ... like that not Goku he has a tail. And black hair. And eyebrows. Wtf?
Favorite video of yours , cant wait till you do the god modes and UI
I preferred it back when a character had to work and be pushed to their emotional limits to become super-saiyan. Each time a character achieved the form for the first time it was a defining moment for them and the culmination of a character arc. I hated how Goten and Kid Trunks could just do it and how Goku just pulled SSJ3 out of his ass with no buildup or character development involved.
Another good one!!! I was just chillinn.... listing... n thought now we going to ssg and... nope ahhaha keep up the good work. check u on next one. bless
Man, I wish DBGT was canon. SS4 is awesome.
No it wasn't.
@geekdom101 good job informing your audience of the importance of the original ssj’s. Haha about your explanation of gotten and trunks super saiyan.. that is pretty much how kids in my age group thought , we watched z back in the early 2000’s lol
That tingly back feeling.
I’m convinced yamcha is actually the strongest saiyan on earth and is the father of gohan and goten but just hides his power
Extreme rage>>>Tingly feeling in the back
>>>>>
So in short .... SUPER SEAMAN =
SUPER SAIYAN 🤔

@8:25 - I've always believed that Goku & Vegeta's DNA had undergone a "mutation" when they achieved Super Saiyan, thereby passing it along via their genes to Goten & Trunks respectively. It just made good sense to me.
I think the dumbest thing was when they said in Super you can go super saiyan when you feel a tingle in your back and focusing that energy...blew my mf mind 🤯🤪🤦♂️
XL I think they just tried to say how it feels going ssj
Goten and Trunks were shafted, they have unrivaled potential and could go beyond what Goku and Vageta could ever imagine.
