So I'm gonna say you have to be able to be an ape to go ssj4. ...so Goten and Trunks can do it? They never had tails. I think that is why they gave it to Gohan in those games. At least that makes sense to me. It is Probably wrong but its a logical explanation and my friends agreed it mad the most sense so I'm rolling with it lol.

But sir Geekdom, didn't you know that the Super Saiyan form emits a radiation that power up other Saiyans and makes it easier for them to obtain it. Thus the Super Saiyan "bargain sale". This could possibly lead other life-forms getting a power up as well like Krillin having a story arc and Bulma able to take a slap to the face from Beerus, and drunk no less, without having her head slap clean off. Surely it must be a "gift" from Vegeta.
@@gdavis2bn from my understanding I thought only full-blooded saiyans could get the transformation, which is why Gohan never got it in GT and only in the games. But I could be wrong
The only bad thing about Super Saiyan 4 is the magical clothes that come out of nowhere. I wish they recon that if they incorporate Super Saiyan 4 Dragon Ball super... I feel Super Saiyan 4 should be sort of the permanent state or A Form That Makes Super Saiyan obsolete... The Weakness of The Form is Enhanced aggression... Only Through Mastery This Weakness Can Be negated and improved mastery bring them one step closer for them stack God Ki on top the Form because To convert Ki to God Ki Requires Calm Mind and Considering Super Saiyan 4 is Much more powerful then SS1.. Would mean it would require a higher level of Ki control and Focus..With Skill Ultra Instict beimg One Of Factors Of Mastering The New Form.. Not Ultra Instict Form.. But The technique Ultra instinct
SSJ4 is the best looking transformation in the series. I love the small changes and the feral look that it gives Goku.

@@Yumemaru. I have always prefered SS4 over SSG. SSG is just boring to me compared to SS4. At least SS4 has something to do with the Saiyan themselves and nothing to do with gathering 5 other super saiyans to turn yourself into a god.
It does give a Saiyan PRMAL Power instead of Godly Ki so that's understandable

@@muchluck7981 I think I like the IDEA of SSG but the form itself feels kinda flat, design-wise. I think they were trying to be a bit frugal with it since it's meant to be a whole nother thing, what with godly ki and all that but... Idk, it just didn't really seem to land for me and kinda felt like they just gave Goku a few shades of red. Same thing with Blue... Just kinda feels like a color swap of the SSJ1 form.
Super Saiyan 4 is the best thing about GT.
That, plus Baby is one of the best villains in the whole franchise IMO.

@@redx9334 Pretty much the only thing I didn't like about Baby was how he was just as evil as Frieza or King Vegeta with the same end goals of conquering the universe, etc. I think he could've used a bit more nuance in his motivations, make him think of himself as righteous and good, etc. Then he would've been perfect. Besides that though, he's brilliant in concept and design.

I think a lot of people actually like SSJ4 because of how much more serious Goku is, along with his lack of control and willingness to kill an enemy.

well dont forget that the key to tranformations of the sayains is anger. They are a warrior race. the more further the transformation, the more serious goku seems to get. WIth his mind and body in control, all that power and rage becomes honed to that ruthless killing machine you see in front of you
I like seeing all the different transformations as different branches:
1. SSJ: Base --> SSJ --> SSJ2 --> SSJ3
2. God: Base --> SSJ God --> SSJ Blue
3. Ozzaru: Base --> Ozzaru --> Golden Ozaru --> SSJ4

Super Saiyan 4 actually brings the user back to their prime. Which is why Goku was returned to an adult and why Vegeta's hair went back to his DBZ Style.
In my opinion Vegeta's means of attaining SSJ4 wasn't cheating. It's similar to how the saiyans created artificial moons to transform into their Oozaru forms while attacking other planets. I think both are pretty innovative honestly.
It IS cheating because he created the artfical moon WITH IS OWN POWER. In GT he had to rely on a machine to help him go SSJ4. Let's see Vegeta go SSJ4 at will then.......I didn't think so. IT IS CHEATING🤓
@@great159 And Goku had to rely on the Old Kai to pull his tail out in GT which is the reason he was able to transform into a great ape (again), the golden great ape form, and eventually SSJ4. So does that mean Goku cheated too?

That doesn't mean he didn't cheat. There was nothing "Natural" about his tail growth. The fact Vegeta sacrifices some power to create a power ball doesn't change the fact its an "artificial" moon. An intelligent way of cheating out of the need of having to wait and plan for a natural moon to occur on planets with heavy resistance etc..

-ties in withe Oozaru / Golden Oozaru transformation
-it is not just about the length of hair like in Z, or hair colour like in S. New whole appearance and abilities
-it looks, at least to me, culturally japanese (kabuki) rather than western, hence more authentic

I always head canon'd it as SS4 reverts you back to when you were in your prime (I remember them saying Vegeta looked younger when he was in SS4 too).

I love the first super Saiyan transformation because of how iconic Super Saiyan was for the first time. And also Super Saiyan 2 but my most favourite will have to be Super Saiyan 4 due to the look and design. It makes them look more unique and more connected to the Saiyan ape roots adding both sides to one form. Powerful and really cool 💪😎☺️👍

I would love the idea of SS4 being a permanent mutation. It always felt silly to me, seeing Goku revert to and from ss4. I doubt we'll ever see this stuff outside of things like Heroes...

I honestly always felt that ssj4 was the more natural course that the evolutions should of taken. I guess cause I like the idea of the tail growing back and then taking on more of the Ape characteristics.

I don't think the main cast of Saiyans should've ever permanently lost their tails to begin with. I know it could've caused problems with Great Ape transformations down the line, but I just always thought the tail is what kinda helped Saiyans stand out as aliens and be more unique. IDK. That's just me.

Geekdom101, you do make a good point about Vegeta "cheating" to get super saiyan 4, but that's only because Vegeta didn't have his tail. We both know that if Vegeta had his tail, he would have achieved super saiyan 4 on his own.
Yea, I used to think it was cheating, but the only reason Vegeta didn't turn SSJ4 was because he didn't have his tail anymore. Bulma had even mentioned that she could've made him surpass SSJ4, but he opted to stay alongside Goku. Vegeta was already strong enough to achieve it. In a hypothetical post GT, I'm sure one of the first things Vegeta did was regrow his tail.
I agree, because how Vegeta transformed into SSJ4 is that when he was in golden Oozaru or golden great ape vegeta instantly became Super Saiyan 4

I like it even more now because of how distinct it remains. DB has mostly forgotten about Saiyans having tails and turning into giant apes period. While this form embraced that part of their heritage. And especially after Super, I'm just appreciating a form that feels different. It looks like a legitimate transformation
GT may have had issues (everything post DBZ has issues), but this form isn't one of them. And I'm glad that GT just ran with this form instead of trying to force a SSJ5 onto us. This was a pinnacle form and it just made sure to let it stand on its own.
I love the lore behind Super Saiyan 4. The design is influenced by the Monkey King from Journey to the West, which Dragon ball is based on. So in a way, Dragon ball comes full circle near the end of GT with Goku becoming the apex of the saiyans, aka the Monkey King.
And that's is what makes it outlandish

Probably my favourite thing to come out of GT aside from the concept of the Shadow Dragons. I'm even more appreciative of Super Saiyan 4's design after the palette swap transformations proliferating in Super.
It's complete fanon but I like to think that where regular Super Saiyan draws power from anger and Super Saiyan Blue puts its user in a state of calm, Super Saiyan 4 derives its power from the ape instinct of the Great Ape form, a mental state that best channels the current potential of the transformed Saiyan when properly controlled.
Tbh that's how i've looked at it as, the power of the Oozaru, but refined more so the user can actually control it and use it's power to the max without losing it or their mind.
It's also backed up by the recent Broly movie. It's pretty obvious that he was using the power of Oozaru, and he was in fact filled with rage.
Actually, SSJ4 was created by controlling the rage of the ape so SSJ4 is in a way a calm form.

Super Saiyan transformations cannot be used while using Migatte no gokui. Super Saiyan transformations are made using rage, or in ssgss and ssg's case, focus.
Migatte no gokui is more on instinct and in the realm above focus, anger or any other emotions.

4:50 it wasn’t really cheating. Goku just had a rare occurrence where all the right environmental factors for the blutz waves were present and vegeta simply had bulma synthesize it. Vegeta if anything would have had an easier time achieving it since he was always in full control of his great ape form. :)
I remember reading about ssj4 back in highschool on the internet, and getting fed all of these myths and misconceptions about the form. Although I never watched GT, I still remember being in love with how it looked, and in my opinion, it is the best looking transformation in all of Dragon Ball.
What i really love about SSJ4 is the level of details on it, every user have slight alteration on the fur, eyes and hair color based on their each genetic traits.
I’ve never been a GT or SS4 guy, but there’s no denying that the story behind it, both in universe and behind the scenes is very interesting. It was pretty cool when Toriyama sketched SS4 Goku for the Dragon Box.
I liked how he made it look in that drawing too. Makes me wish he'd put it in as a broly type thing. Even tho I usually don't care about bringing in non canon stuff

SSJ4 was always my favorite form right after 3. I love how badass and menacing it looks, and Gokus demeanor in the form being more serious as well.

Well from direct quotes in the show, SSj4 was never at full power since he got it. Pan stated that he was fighting baby so long that he was worm out.

That's a good theory. Mine is that Vegeta's hair has a reddish tint and they just used the reddish tint for his hair(making it pure red)
I always thought that Super Saiyan 4 transformed the user physically to the pinnacle power of a sayian to his or her's prime and that's how Goku turned into an adult again. Just like saiyans can be in there prime for years before they age. So the prime goku was what the transformation brought him to.
I know I'm late, but that's funny because I always just assumed that SS4 was so powerful that it was able to basically override the magic of the wish that turned Goku into a kid, and that's why he turns into an adult as a SS4.
Ever since I first watched GT way back in the day, I've always been of the mind that SSJ4 isn't actually a "true" Super Saiyan form. Not in the traditional sense of 1, 2, and 3. Though SSJ3, arguably, taps into the same part of a saiyan's physiology that is utilized in the SSJ4 transformation. Instead, SSJ4 is much more akin to a secondary oozaru transformation. I mean, it requires a Saiyan *capable* of transforming into a Super Saiyan while in Oozaru form ,they must be able to retain their mental faculties while in that form, and it additionally needs a much higher input of Blutz waves. Blutz waves are *only* used to trigger the Oozaru transformation. Therefore, the SSJ4 transformation acts not on the saiyans' S-cells, which are responsible for the Super Saiyan transformation, but instead on the cells related to their oozaru transformation.
This was just my running theory, and I've not done the in-depth research required to know the *exact* canon functionality of SSJ4 from any sources outside of the GT anime.
My theory was that Super Saiyan 4 was a mutation that branches off the normal Super Saiyan branch. as it has the aura of the regular Super Saiyan.

I always liked to think that Super Saiyan 4 is actually not a Super Saiyan form (because of how different it looks) and its name was just made up by Goku and friends to simplify everything.

I like that Nakatsuru had the balls to completely redesign what the typical SSJ transformation looks like and it worked! It's my personal favorite Super Saiyan transformation. Only good thing that came out of GT.

Super Saiyan 4 is the pinnacle of natural Saiyan power.
I won't lie, I like the Ultra Instinct state, but Super Saiyan 4 will always be the Pinnacle of Saiyan Power, to me and certainly more dependable than UI.

@@littleloss8339 No, sir! I did not say that. Idk if Geekdom has thought of this, probably, but hasn't really addressed it. Ultra Instinct is indeed a Powerful state, but cannot be held for long. The Tournament of Power was 48 minutes... from those 48 minutes, Ultra Instinct, in reality only lasted a while. Like about 6-7 minutes if I'm being nice. In GT, Goku was able to hold SSJ4 transformation much longer while fighting Nuova Shenron and onward until he was worn out. On top of that, he pulled it out while being hungry cause he was running from Nuova before actually starting to fight him.
@@littleloss8339 But no, SSJ4 is no where near as Powerful as UI or even Blue. As a Super Saiyan 4 fanatic, I understand that. It can be powerful, but by the time it catches up, UI will just be more powerful.

I can tell you really put a lot of thought and do very thorough research. It's great to see that there are Dragonball fans out there who are truly hardcore, such as yourself, Quaman, and Laughingstock Media. You guys are true fans. I've been a fan since 1997, and I will admit that when I first heard the original Japanese voices, they shocked me in a sense when I was a kid, but they grew on me and I've come to appreciate them as much as I appreciate the Funimation cast. After I began learning Japanese several years ago, I think that's really when I began to falk in love with the original voices and Kikuchi's score...Nozawa's work is steller. Also, I'm a huge fan of Furīza sama and Ryusei Nakao.The Emperor of the Universe is the best, in my opinion. I grew up on Schemmel's Goku, as well as the Faulconer soundtrack, but Shinsuke Kikuchi's music is very good. My favorite track is Bardock's theme song, personally.

Nah that would make Super way too convoluted and probably just end up ruining it. I'm not saying that Super would get ruined specifically because of the stuff from GT, but introducing a whole other transformation line and a bunch of enemies and everything would undoubtedly just be way too much

The reason I love this Transformation is because it feels like a True Final Form (the endgame of Saiyan Power).
This is my favorite form, just because of how it works back to the original lore of the saiyan tails and oozaru forms. It felt like the series totally forgot about the tails at some point and I liked that it brought it back in GT
I think SSJ 4 is by far the coolest transformation, it looks awesome and I love the idea for first needing to turn into a Golden great ape.

I feel like this form deserves a comeback. It was a very good concept by Nakatsuru and could be incorporated into the Dragon Ball Super anime.

SSJ4 just might come back as a transformation achieved by the Saiyans in Universe 6. It may turn out to be extremely powerful but not quite as strong as SSJ God, so Goku and Vegeta don't bother with it meanwhile Cabba and Caulifla rely on it because it's more their style. And Kale just keeps doing her green thing. Maybe even SSJ4 Green? I dunno how far Super will reach into the barrel...
But this is what I think will happen IF they decide to bring it back at all

Lets be real though... Vegeta has to go to their planet after that big deal he made about it in the Tournament of Power, and it's HIGHLY doubtful that if that happens, Cabba will be the only one of the 3 saiyans they meet up with when they get there

I love this form but I think it would be more accurate to call it something like Primal Super Saiyan or something like that considering the way it’s obtained
Vegeta only needed the machine to transform into a REGULAR Oozaru. Vegeta did the rest. If Vegeta had his tail, he would’ve used the power ball technique to transform into a REGULAR Oozaru and the end result would have been the same, so really it doesn’t matter.
