You could even do this like a beanie and it be double thick, a really longer tube, like two beanies long, turn inside out and then crochet the straps the same way, would that work?

Not yet, it's all good! I think you just want to use it carefully, I don't use a drill on it and I work very slowly and with a lot of patience.
