I’m making the tote bag right now, it’s my first sewing project ever…so it’s taken me around 3 hours so far lol but I just finished the lining and I’m about to attach it. It is so adorable and I’m making it for my step mom for her birthday coming up. I am so excited thank you so much! I never thought I was capable of making anything like this before. I can’t wait so see what else I can make
You have such a great eye for choosing fabric. Very lovely projects, especially with Christmas around the corner. Please keep the small but cute projects coming so we can gather ideas for presents.🪡❤️
This is the first of your videos I've seen. I love Australian content. It's very kind of you to include inches as well as centimetres. We never see Americans do that.
@@kimberlykendall3835 well yes. Germans are from Germany, French from France, Finnish from Finland. It therefore follows that Canadians are from Canada, Mexicans from Mexico, Bolivians from Bolivia, and United Statesians from the United States, yes? Trying to say "Americans" and then complaining about something only the US does is equivalent to saying "Europeans" and then complaining about something that only Finland or Germany or France does. Would you really appreciate being lumped up that way? I imagine not.
@@ajchapeliere if we’re nitpicking, which you clearly are, it’s the “United States of America”. So America…is in the name 😂 Sure, we can all get annoyed by other countries saying “this is how Americans are” when Americans vary drastically city to city, let alone state to state. But unless you are referring to the specific location (aka which state), Americans are considered from the United States of America. Because North American is broken up into 2 countries (Canada and the US), Canadians are from Canada and Americans are from the United States of America. Just as well, if you are from Mexico, you can also be considered from Central America. If you are from Chile, you can be considered Chilean OR of course it can be referred to as South American if you’re going by continent as the regional term.
Love the idea of using old table cloths and sheets to make something else really useful. I’m going to look out some and give it a go. Spring is in the air over here in Wellington, the sun is shining and birds are singing. I hope you are getting lovely spring weather in Tasmania. Have a lovely week Janelle and take care.
Thanks Lynda! It’s such a beautiful spring day today in Tassie 🧡 I’ve been spending most of it knitting in the sunshine - just what I needed! I hope you have a lovely week too x
These projects are very nice. I need to make my granddaughter an apron an I'll make this one as is or put a top on it. You give really great directions and make me feel like I can sew anything :)
“30 minute projects” bold of you to assume I’m any good at sewing 😅 These are really cute projects though, and your directions are easy to follow! I’ll have to give some of these a try
I keep coming back to your laptop case for any sort of pouch I want to make. I’m still new to sewing, and it’s so easy to follow for any sort of size. Thank you!!!
Last Christmas I made different sized tote bags Janelle for gift bags so my friends and family had 2 presents in one, they all loved having sewn gift bags, I’ll do the same this year as it helps to cut down on using paper etc 🧵✂️🎁
Yay, nice to see you on a Sunday morning. Looking forward to lockdown being over so I can source some old table cloths and sheets to make these for Christmas presents. Thanks Janelle!!
Thank you so much for these! I used some second hand linen scraps I found at an antique store and made the apron. It was my very first big sewing project. This was so easy to follow and everything turned out great!
I love the idea of using older table cloths.... I made a few grocery bags from new material shower curtains... I found them on sale and the great thing is I've washed them and they hold up so well and being that they are a rayon type material if something spills inside it tends to keep the liquid within the bag.
I just bought a sewing machine and I’ve been enjoying just practicing getting used to the stitching and such, watching this was incredibly encouraging. I’m hoping to eventually make my own clothing because I want to make what I like, but I’ve been so unsure where to even start. Thank you so much for this video!
Yay that’s so exciting! You will be making your own clothes before you know it! I also have a ‘sewing for beginners’ playlist on my channel that goes from knowing zero about sewing to making your dream wardrobe that you might find helpful ☺️
@@RoseryApparel yes, I saw it!! It was very helpful, and update: I MADE A TOTE!!! Thank you again, I deeply appreciate you! Completing the tote gave me confidence and even encouragement that I can do it!
I just made a laptop case out of an old embroidered pillow case following your tutorial and it turned out so so cute! Thank you for the inspiration, I have been in a major sewing rut!
Was super excited to see you doing projects again Janelle, thank you. It turned out beautiful. Your fabric choice is amazing, just love the colours. Remain blessed xxx
Lovely projects! Cannot wait to recreate the apron. So simple. Although, I’d prefer the top part as well (messy cook here). Maybe an apron tutorial in the future with your kind of style? By the way, my 10 year old daughter is a fan of yours and always looks forward to your videos every week. She began to sew little projects here and there since she was 7 but it wasn’t until last year that she began to make clothes for herself and her dolls. You have inspired her a lot with your beautiful creations. She made your pin cushions as gifts for her sewing teacher and sewing classmates and they loved it. She’s made a few of your other 30 min projects, too. Thanks, Janelle, for the love and dedication you put into your videos! Much love from the both of us, all the way from NC 🇺🇸 to TAS 🇦🇺
Thank you so much for this beautiful comment! I love hearing that your daughter has been inspired by my videos and is getting into sewing in a big way 😊 Sounds like a very kind hearted person! x
Thank you for these quick project ideas. I didn't think I was going to have time to sew this fall, but you made it possible to be able to do at least one small project. Thanks! Love the polish color by the way!
I so enjoyed this video Janelle and love everything you have made; your choice and blending of fabrics adds to their prettiness. As someone else mentioned they are great Christmas gift ideas. I also like them for me! Thank you for showing us how to make them 🥰
I love your simple, useful, and quick-cut and sew design ideas. Everything you've made is beautiful, useful, and great for gifting. Thank you so much for sharing!
Such good project ideas! I already have too many tote bags but the tip about making bottom corners and your lovely fabric may tempt me to make my own! 😊
I made the tote bag, my first thing I've made!! Thank you so much. Learned a couple lessons... My lining stitching is on the inside not the outside, oops! Haha. And i sewed the lining in with the inner pocket on the front side which isnt the end of the world, but i know to think about those things for the next one. Thank you for this wonderful tutorial!!

A lovely collection of projects, thank you Janelle. Sometimes I feel like I'm becoming a crazy bag lady as I'm forever making bags of all kinds for people LOL Aprons might just be this year's christmas gifts for everyone!
I've been looking for a tote bag tutorial that not only I like but looks pretty sturdy. I have tote bags I use to go grocery shopping, I refuse to use plastic bags, but the problem is they are so thin and with no lining that I cannot put anything heavy in them. Once I lost a strap just because it had 1kg oranges and 2 bottles of milk 😂 so thank you very much, I will make this for sure!

So, learn from my (shabby) example, and DO NOT try to sew on a bad ADHD day. I made a tote bag, and got the supreme honour of having to seam rip the whole of the lining as I sewed the pocket DOWNSIDE-UP! It was not my most glorious moment... Thank you for the awesome inspirations!
There's a trick to keep the ruffles even. Before ruffling up the fabric, instead of one make two parallel stitches (not a double needle - stitch twice), about 1 cm apart. Contrasting thread is a good idea, since you remove it at the end. Ruffle the fabric up, then stitch it to the pillow by sewing between the two lines. May be overkill for a pillow, but it makes a difference if you want a neat garment. Also useful for rouching. If you don't want to waste time gathering up the fabric, use an elastic thread in the bobbin.
