Kevin, thanks for clearing up the tentacle. I was always confused about them.

Acutally, Cobra La makes two more entries into the realm of comic books.
    1) In "Action Force" story "As Thick as Thieves" Serpentor has a vision of Pythona (telling him that Cobra needs the BET, new Action Force / G.I. Joe weapon) and reccurring dreams of reptilian civilization. In "The Movie" Serpentor's says that he first saw Pythona "in a dream, a vision".
    2) In Devil's Due G.I. Joe / Transformers crossover Cobra La is working alongside Unicron against human race.

I actually would have to agree with Larry Hama ,I feel like the whole cobra la thing ruins the cartoons and the origins of cobra and cobra commander that's why I actually would have to agree with the ARAH comics because it seems way more fitting to the whole story of gi joe with Cobra Commander being an ex buisness man and having him not turn into a mutant snake but other than that I actually enjoyed the sunbow cartoons and the marvel comics

I picked up that 2 pack you mentioned back in 08'. Although Nemesis Enforcer (Nemesis Immortal on the new packaging) was huge improvement, I couldn't say the same about Falcon. I really hope Hasbro remakes that guy.

The movie was supposed to be a lead-in to season 3 (introducing all the new characters). Nobody knows why Hasbro stopped the cartoon (Sunbow Animation was ready to do season 3 for September '87). Personally, I think it was a "perfect storm" of bad luck on Hasbro's part. Plummeting popularity (even before the movie came out), Sunbows' production/cost problems and all the other failing Hasbro toylines eating away at the budget.

I really like the 1987 Cobra-La Team 3-pack, I really liked when I added it to my collection. But there are three very disappointing things about this pack:
1- The absence of Pythona. We all miss to have this character as a figure. They should have made her, but if they would have done it, it would have been the first time Hasbro would have done 2 female character in a series (including Jinx).
2- The size of Nemesis Enforcer. The sculpt of the figure and paint job is amazing, very accurate. They should just have increased the scale!!!
3-Back in times If you would have wanted to army build the Royal Guard, you should have bought each time a new 3-pack!!!!! Isn't that crazy??? Again, they should included Pythona in the 3-pack, and sell the Royal Guard as carded figures!!!!!!
What an amount of missed opportunities in a single 3-pack, and I remark, I like much this figures!

Agree, except I didn't much like the sculpt of Nemesis either. But a single pack Royal Guard would have been awesome.

    • @baillergeaux
      @baillergeaux 7 років тому +1

      Definitely.
Checking formbx257's reviews on the 1988 Nullifier and 1988 Hydro-Viper figures, something leads to think those two figures would have belonged to the 1988 continuation of the Cobra La line, as a driver and frogman, respectively.
Apparently, the low popularity of Cobra La would have kicked them out to other lines. But if this wouldn't have happened, and knowing Hasbro moves, maybe in 1988 the Royal Guard figure could have been re-packed as a single figure (to army build it) and maybe Hasbro would have been encouraged to release a '1988 Pythona'...!!
It doesn't sound crazy if you think she would have been the next female character in the line after the 1987 Jinx.

Hasbro did plan to release *another* Cobra-La three pack, in late 1987 (where the original Cobra-La 3 pack - this one - would have been an *early* 1987 release), featuring Pythona (the other two Cobra-La figures would have been the mutated Cobra Commander, and one of the bald Cobra-La citizens). Hasbro didn't release this second Cobra-La three pack, which was to have included Pythona, owing to poor ratings of the movie, and poor sales of the original Cobra-La three pack, so at least they (Hasbro) had a valid reason for not releasing the second Cobra-La 3 pack.

they need to make a new update to these two to add on to the 25th anniv Nemesis Enforcer. And Golobulus should come with his shell that lets him float, so he can also stand upright in display.

they also appeared royal guard nemesis enforcer golobulus and pythona appeared in a 3 comic series of GI Joe vs. Transformers seies in 2007

Good obsveration that Golobulus, Nemesis Enforcer and Pythona are basically General Zod, Non and Ursa!
You may be right about the body being backward (he is packaged with stripes facing forward, not back like I have). The stripes probably act like a snake belly, but I think I put it the other way because the copyright info (which is on the top stripe) shows.

G.I. Joe always had a sci-fi bent since its inception, and it seems in '87 they were flirting with the supernatural/paranormal with the release of concepts such as Cobra-La and Crystal Ball. Too bad it was poorly executed. Crystal Ball was under-realized and while Cobra-La was neat with its At the Mountains of Madness vibe, they spoiled them by foolishly tying them to Cobra's origins in the animated movie.

+Jonny G I agree! A cult as old and powerful as "Cobra-La" would have been better off in a SAGA not a MOVIE! The movie just didn't have enough time to show us enough of what it was all about!

I don't have the Weather Dominator or the MASS device, but I would like to buy them someday. Did the BET ever get made? Seems like something Hasbro should have made for the recent re-release of the movie, but I've never seen it.

I hated how in the movie Nemesis Enforcer has super powers(enough to lift a HAVOC) yet Sgt. Slaughter mops the floor with him. Even as a dumb kid I knew that was wrong.

Cobra-La is handled much better in the current comic book and is in the background...a place of legend.

Ya know, I've tried to name 3 different animals (including our tortoise) Nemesis Enforcer. I've loved that name ever since I was a child.
    .
Ever notice that Golobulous, N-Enforcer and Pythona were basically a rehash of the villains from Superman 2. One egotistical leader, one brute and one evil woman.
    .
Lastly, I wonder if the snake body part was supposed to be the inverse of the way you had it... so the back would be on the front...
    .
    Great vid!

While the Cobra-La concept certainly didn't fit with the Marvel/Hama G.I. Joe universe, I think it was a perfect match for the tone of the animated series. Also, the toys themselves are very interesting and unique, especially Golobulus.

  • @Blackheart7310

I think those 3 fit in well with the cartoon, because the cartoon was always a bit sci fi. I mean, it had alternate dimensions, cloning/reincarnation with Serpentor, B.A.T.s and other robots, Ghost Warriors, not to mention Destro trying to sacrifice Lady Jaye to Cthulhu in the episode Skeletons in the Closet. But these 3 toys? Golobulous and Nemesis Enforcer were always my least favorite toys for just the reasons you mentioned. Golobulous wouldn't stand up and Enforcer should have been larger.

I even like the way the Cobra-La 3 pack *was* - that they included a Royal Guard along with the two individuals - Nemesis Enforcer and Golobulus (contrary to what baillergeaux says).
