The End - Розваги
I hated that they excluded Pythona. She would've been an excellent third figure for the set, and Royal Gaurd would've been much better suited as a stand-alone figure.
Or even released Golobulus and Nemesis Enforcer as one two-pack and another two-pack of Royal Guards. The guards are actually kind of cool.
@@Transfixed Nemesis Enforcer was released as "Nemesis Immortal" in a Comic Two-Pack and Pythona was released by the late Collector's Club.
It's quite possible that she would've been the female figure for 1988, but given the poor reception of both the movie and the whole "Cobra-La" concept was scrapped and so we wouldn't get another female figure in the classic line until Scarlett v2.
Golobulus was enemy boss in GI Joe the video game on the Nintendo Entertainment System
My thoughts about Cobra-La:
I don't have a problem with adding sci-fi elements to GI Joe, they were there in the beginning of the cartoon with the various devices such as the MASS Device or Weather Dominator. I also don't have a problem with a secret power or group behind Cobra. I never read the comics, but in the cartoon there really was no origin given for Cobra, at least till the movie. That being said, they really went too far with this. Cobra-La is just silly. It does not belong in GI Joe, and I am glad that it was dropped after the movie.
Thank you for your review, and I pretty much agree with your thoughts about the toys and the whole concept of Cobra-La.
Read the comics here legally and for free. They rock. Larry Hama created an awesome well crafted mythos.... graphitecomics.com/issue/IDW-Publishing/GI-Joe-Classics/GI-Joe-Classics-Vol-1-volume-1-issue-1/8
That's what gets to me. All this wacky stuff the 80s show had but Cobra-La is "too far." That's kind of a double standard to me imho.
@@NodDisciple1 Exactly!
I'm not a hater of the movie.
The algorithm is dialing up old HCC videos for the re-watch and I am here for it. Sometimes it finds the correct stuff.
Once this worm reaches the top of this pole, the pods will ripen and this pitiful planet will be ours.
You forgot the villainous "Muh ha haaaa!"
I feel exactly the same about Jar-Jar Binks in Star Wars. He was the Gungan that broke the Bantha's back.
There were parts of the Gi Joe movie I really liked. The opening fight between Gi Joe and Cobra was awesome. The stuff with the new recruits and Lt Falcon was also interesting. It was great to see a changing of the guard. After seeing the transformers movie I figured okay some old Joes are going to die and these are the new ones to replace those.
There was also stuff about the movie I didn't like and that was everything with Cobra La in it. The movie would have been pretty alright without Cobra La and messing with Cobra Commander's origin story. The Cobra La toys were terrible too.
I had kind of been on the fence with Gi Joe for a while before the movie came out where I felt like I was probably too old for toys and I felt like Cobra La was just the push I needed to pack them up and put them away for good. If their plan was to drum up new interest in the toyline I think the movie probably had the opposite effect. This was the point in the line where a lot of kids called it a day.
Cobra-La were mentioned in the GI Joe trading cards
This has to be one of the best teams in the 1980s G.I.Joes.
#CobraConvergenceV!!!
Nice way to wrap up an amazing month of Joe goodness. Thanks Hoodie, and all those whom participated in this stellar event.
Anyone else getting a Darkwing Duck vibe from Nemesis Enforcer's file card?
I did too.
Yes, I see what you mean.
How so? The coloring?
@@alecaquino4306 No. From the phrasing. DD had a habit of saying things like "I am the terror that flaps in the night".
I loved Cobra-Lallalalalaalalalaalalala and the movie but yes, it was kinda ridiculous. Good memories. 💀🔥
If you turn Golobulus' tail around (instead of leaving it on backwards) you can bend the thing so he "stands" without much trouble. I do not know why they placed the tail on the toy backwards, but turning it around was the first thing I did when I took the figure out of the package. After I got it bent so that the weight was distributed evenly, he did not fall over on his own.
Edit: The smooth, "ribbed" part of the tail should be facing front. The picture on the card shows the tail put on properly.
Cobra-LALALALALALALALALA!
21:31 u can see a piece of his armor above his stomach in the middle unpainted
This was fun. Appreciate being able to participate in this.
Oh damn, the Globulus figure spinning on the display killed me xD
My brother bought me Sgt. Slaughter's Renegades as a birthday present for my 8th birthday. With my questionable 8-year-old sense of logic I spent my birthday money on Cobra-la (and Crazylegs) "so I would have both 3-packs." Dumb. (This was all before seeing the movie, btw). I sold all three Cobra-la figures with all their accessories and file cards to a classmate for 5 bucks when I was 12. Dumb. I wish I still had them now... so I could sell them for way more than 5 bucks!
🤣 I bought Nemesis enforcer for 2.00
From a classmate
You’re better off without ‘em. They have no place in G.I. Joe.
That was a way better review. I can't wait until you redo Ice Cream Soldier
Lol. Until then, remember to keep your cool. ;)
I loved how angry that figure made him!
ice cream solider should've been shock viper.
Awesome...shout out to everyone who contributed for this video...Yo Joes!!!!!@
This was a great review, it was good to see a more in-depth review of the figures and the surrounding media. I personally LOVED the animated movie and the new characters (though I don't like the Cobra-lalalalalala battle cry). I didn't read the comics so my exposure to G.I. Joe was the cartoon, and after all of the weird things that happened in the series with things like time travel, aliens, ghosts, monsters, alternate dimensions, gods, magic, etc., for Cobra Commander to be just some "guy" and for Cobra to be just another terrorist organization would have been underwhelming IMO. The fantastical elements of the series is what I loved about it, so I was/am thoroughly satisfied with the movie. It's just too bad the toys didn't do it justice.
My dude has all the gi joe review og's🙏🙏🙏👍🔥💯🙏👍🔥💯
Loved the 1st video...hilarious....he has a belt it looks like he got at Target. I laughed so hard I nearly choked on my chocolate donuts and grape soda. That video, Raptor, and Croc Master are my favorite reviews.
Its interest I think Cobra-La is one of few that brings polar opposite feels. While Im more on HCC788's side concerning Cobra-La. I enjoyed listening to another good friend "SEO" give the opposite take on Cobra-La. ( even though I don't agree) Still that is what makes this hobby so wonderful. Its OK to like OR Dislike.
I never saw these in stores at the time, but saw the set posed in the Sears Christmas catalog among the other toys for sale. The pic you had near the beginning showing Golubulus with the different tail he could stand on was the pic Sears used and I’m pretty sure instead of Cobra-La, SEARS spelled it like this:
Cobra’s LA.
When I read that, it gave the impression that this was a subset team subservient and UNDER Cobra. Since I never saw the movie until well into adulthood, I assumed as such and thought the LA stood for “laboratory animals” or something, so I blissfully made it into adulthood thinking these were some forced evolution experiments of Dr. Mindbender or some such. THIS made more sense in my head and still does today. Imagine my chagrin and general WTF when I learned the truth.
I saw these in a catalog when I was four or five. I thought they looked cool. I asked my grandmother to get them for me. She got Sgt Slaughter's Renegades. The movie was on TV when I was seven or eight. I liked it.
I remember getting these on Christmas one year as a youngster. What I remember most was thinking how different they all looked to the rest of my G.I. Joes. I especially couldn't quite figure out how to play with Golobulos at first, but would later have hours and hours of fun with all of them as I killed them with G.I. Joes.
You must have been naughty that year.
Awesome review! I hated to hear that the first one has been taken down. I would watch it a lot to laugh. Today's review was great. Good job.
love the intro of this review. Cracked me up! Hilarious
I think the problem was brian was just too old when this movie came out... for those of us who were 6, 7, 8, 9 we loved it.. he was at the age where you start questioning everything.. although i was 6 when transformers the movie came out and never forgave them for killing optimus....
Makes sense. I was 8 when it came out and loved everything about the movie. It wasn't until I was older that I started to learn that it was so polarizing among the fans. I can see where they're coming from but still think the movie was pretty damn awesome. With that being said, the Cobra-La war cry did make me chuckle.
I felt EXACTLY how you described... as a kid, after growing up on GI Joe, Cobra La and the movie are what killed it for me. I still collected a few more figures for the next couple years, but only very choice selections, until it just petered out. Now, some of that I'm sure was age; I was getting older and more interested in chicks and rock n roll than in action figures, but that doesn't change just how horrible I thought this direction, and these characters specifically were. Also like you, I eventually got over it and found my way back into the love for the franchise as a whole, but I still hate these guys. Your review was spot on, and fair IMO. I was (and am) a huge fan of the comics, and really wish they would have went a more Larry Hama direction with the film. That's what we deserved.
Cobra "Law" lol. Bless you bro! :)
At the time I ABSOLUTELY wanted this set, but could never find it in stores. Now I don't want them, neither the new versions. lol I still like the movie though.
I saw them everywhere back then. Maybe it was a regional thing, but they hung on that peg a long time.
Great video! Love the intro! I once got a thumbs down for saying la, one to many times lol
The clip from FormBX257 mentioning Inhumanoids reminded me of when I was a kid, my mom took me to Toys R Us and I picked out the Cobra Viper and the giant Inhumanoid Tendril monster.
I would love to get these in 4inch form and in 6inch versions. I love Cobra La!!
Brilliant!!🐍
We have been waiting for a long time for the GI Joe Mauler review. I hope you can review it soon, please and thank you.
I don't mind GI Joe taking more of a sci-fi turn, but, like with most things, there is a right way and a wrong way to do it.
The right way: The new GI Joe Classified series (The classic characters with a more modernized look) or the various crossovers with Transformers.
The wrong way: Cobra-La (Characters who fit more in line with He-Man than GI Joe)
*You took it down?! - But, it's a classic!*
HCC ROASTS COBRA LA!
Great stuff.
Cooobra LA LA LA LA LA was Dope Asf
Cobra La and the GI Joe movie was like Hasbro saying, “OK boys, time to grow up and like girls, cars and football.” It’s like they wanted us to drop their products in the recycling center.
I Was Around 12/ 13 and Started Playing BB and Liked the Gals and Puberty Arrived. Your Right Bro
Another nice vid
Thanks for the Convergence and this video!! My only issue with Cobra-La was the interference with Cobra Commander and his back story. If they had left it as an offshoot of another bad group like the Drednocks then things would have been more sci-fi and weird but I wouldn't have any problems with Cobra-La,la,la,la,la!!!!!
i would love to see the classified series tackle these. even give golobulous his flying green pod thing as a vehicle.
Love them or hate them 😇 We all keep them in Our collections lol
Hasbro should release a playset for these figures called "Cobra La-La-Land".... LOL, BTW... My favorite Cobra-La is the Royal Guard. The heavy armor looks awesome. To me rather than bug eyes the helmet looks more like an old WWI German gas mask. I got one guard used without accessories cheap and gave it a knock off light machine gun and it kinda looks like a Juggernaut from COD. Nemesis Enforcer is meh and Golobulus is awful and weird looking.
golobulus-once a pickle
You’ll never convince me Hydro-Viper’s design wasn’t meant to be part of Cobra-La in some way.
Just like the Nullifier.
I have to agree with Kevin (FormBX257) that maybe (just maybe) these Cobra-La characters would have somehow be better suited for something like Inhumanoids, if only because of that series' Lovecraftean vibe.
I’m way more of a Transformers guy, but I did watch G.I. Joe too. I don’t mind them, but The Movie was the beginning of the end. The “jump the shark” moment.
the jumped the sharc
I'm excited.
Cobra-La characters are some of my favorite G.I. Joe characters. The toys should have been made better. Golobulus should have had the Serpentor treatment; Nemesis Enforcer should have been released with Pythona. Royal Guard should have been by himself. Cobra-La was not the problem with G.I. Joe The Movie; Sgt. Slaughter was the problem; Sgt. Slaughter was too overpowered in The Movie and episodes. Duke and other Joes should have died in The Movie. Cobra-La did make it into more G.I. Joe comics including at least one of the G.I. Joe/Transformers series. Transformers has always had a close relation with G.I. Joe and so it's stupid when people complain about the fantasy/science fiction elements of Cobra-La. G.I. Joe has also had some very fantasy/science fiction elements not counting The Movie and the different G.I. Joe/Transformers comic series. I know Larry Hama said those things decades ago but he has done some very stupid things in recent years with the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero comics (female Snake Eyes) (I'm glad he created the 1980s version of G.I. Joe but Larry Hama is an idiot in many ways). Also don't take down videos; it's annoying and bad for history; you already released it to the public and so you should put it back up. I know I had some harsh words but I still want to say thanks for the content (I have liked and shared many of your videos, including this one).
Oh man lol. Dawn Moreno is ten times the character of any of the Cobra-La characters, pick any of them. She also has a backstory which is organic to the evolution of the comic series and has a lot of great moments.
However I will give you a thumbs up for mentioning the Transformers crossover with Cobra-La. The Tom Scioli comic is amazing and the first time I liked Cobra-La. They fit well in that context.
29:48 Kind of sounds like the God Emperor of Dune.
True dat 🙂
The spores must flow...
COBRA LAW- A group of Sieges (Crimson Guard) running a high dollar law firm.... That's it! Something more like your idea would have kept me in the game in 1987. this was the final straw. Give me a three pack of suited Sieges with briefcases full of legal documents, weapons, cash, "pharmaceuticals..." I'm in ( Yes I know, but then GI JOE DEF subset would have had better villains). When I saw this I had the same reaction as in HEART OF DARKNESS... The Horror... The Horror...
Come on, HCC788. Don't sugarcoat it.
Tell us how you really feel.
The Royal Guard is my favorite character from this line. Belt from JC Penney made from eel skin.
At 36:16 of the video.
Golobilus looks silly on the turn table. It looks like he was chasing his own tail.
Regarding the size of the toys. It would have been better if they made the figures in the same size of Visionary Action Figures.
Great video sir. This looks like the culminating video for Cobra Convergence V. Congrats on CCV sir. I'm looking forward to CCVI!!!
Take care sir.
44:00 And Buzz said on record he didn't like it and was forced into it...as said earlier in the video. -_-'
In the Image Comics today of Cobra Commander he use Enegon on Nemesis Enforcer to use him as slave and guess what happened to CC stood there watch him slaughter all five of Dreadnoks getting Rip and Tear 😨😡 I was gonna give Commander a finger for what he to them but the comics was great and darker and Dreadnoks was one of my favorite GI Joe Characters in this series
Everyone has his tail backwards. You can use a sh figuarts stand to hold him up. I guess they needed something new and never sbeen before for the movie, I dont mind the idea of. Cobra commander answering to a higher power, maybe a better name would've been better that Cobra La. Awesome video!!!
You are so funny I can't stop laughing at you
There was a Pythona figure planned but never made it passed the original concept art. There was also a Cobra La vehicle prototype which included the figure that would become Nullifier.
Golobulus' torso is backwards, or his tail is on backwards.
Yooo Joe!!!!!
The only figure missing from this set was the female character pythonia, after all she is the first one who had contact with Cobra.
The movie was fantastic besides the unmasking of CC . The Cobra La stuff was ok as an enemy in the movie but it was the spiritual end of the original series. G I Joe at it’s best was a military counter military story. With characters and vehicles based on that theme. After this movie the ip just got lazy and the toys suffered from corner cutting weird paint jobs or creative exhaustion. I had/still have these figures and was dissatisfied with the snake tail completely. I did like NE but your points are fair and the RG should have been replaced by P for sure. TBH I think Golobulious should have been separate and come with that floaty thing he came out of kind of like how Serpentor came with his Chariot. Great video.
lalalalalalalalala, ok globulous sucks but the other two are solid 0-ring figs at least
I think cobra la was great idea and the movie was great didn't like the battle cry. They didn't market the toys very well but I hope to see the cobra la characters make it back in the gi joe franchise and storyline some how and actually make a golobulus that stands up proper with his bug like torso instead of the snake torso
Cobra La should’ve be less bug focused and more snake focused. It wouldn’t have fixed it, but it would’ve improved it. Crab & Lobster armor?? C’mon guys. Gotta admit, I loved seeing Sarge beating the snot out of Nemesis Enforcer in the 87’ movie! Re-enacted that countless times.
1:37 Nice trill
I always liked the design for the Kamen Rider meets Scuba Steve Cobra-La soldier. It'd still work as a decent underwater design if they had colored it in more traditional military colors imo.
#CobraConvergenceV
I feel like Cobra-la would have been better if they ditched the ancient snake society angle and for something closer to Serpentor’s origin. Making them genetically engendered super soldiers that were made by Dr Mindbender or some other shadowy organization that wants to take over Cobra could’ve worked.
Your review was excellent. About sending an incompetent leader to take over the world; Cobra Commander according to the movie was a scientist, not a soldier or a General/Commander. Cobra Commander was smart but that does not equal tactical competency. Cobra Commander should have used Cobra-La technology to defeat the world in the beginning if bio-mechanical technology was that great. He also had time on his side but failed. Golobulus may have given him too much time. My boss would have fired me on the first week...
I loved the movie, the renegades and the cobra la set.
Anyone’s free to like what they want to like... but it’s a cartoon with time travel, aliens, clones, weather dominators, alternate dimensions... and periscopes.
I think when your breaking point is less crazy then what was already established 2 years earlier with serpentor, its challenging what’s too much or when you’ve had enough.
I bought that same belt at jcpenney
I had them had to Sepentors Dredknocks 😭😭
You can take down that awesome video, but you can't ruin the moment for me that was awesome about Golobulus "Ribbed for her pleasure"...
'The whole Cobra La thing aside from Serpentor is stupid as fxxk'

Ayyyyy!!!!!!
Thank you so much for allowing us to partake in it. Hope we can do this again!
modern nemesis enforcer looks like gargoyle
G.I. Joe would not be the same without the movie 🎥 regardless of its reception that was the 80’s! What’s next? People shaming “Big trouble in little China town” 🤷🏽♂️
Cobra-La was more suited for Inhumanoids.
Had the Cobra La figures when I was younger and actually liked them alot. The Golobulus figure was poorly designed though. Should've included some type of stand or something.
“I was once a man”
"Yes oh yes I was a man"
I hated the Cobra La figures. Both Nemesis Enforcer and Royal Guard should be larger figures. They had bigger body molds they could have used. Look at Road Pig and Sgt. Slaughter.
Agreed, I had the set of figures and I could never understand why they made Nemesis Enforcer so small.
Anyone who has the d v d of the G I JOE movie watch it with the comments on so cool and he even says when Cobra la comes on it becomes a monster movie .
U should reupload the old video I liked it better cobra la was explained perfectly in the old vidja
I will point out the glaring continuity error which occurs within the Hasbro product promotion line in the animated cartoons. Cobra Commander appeared in the Transformers episode "Only Human" as Old Snake, roughly 20 years after the events supposedly took place in GI Joe: The Movie, and far from his glory days as head of Cobra to advise Victor Drath on synthoid technology. He appeared in the likeness of his original V.1 uniform, with added fedora hat, trench coat and gauntlets. At the end he lets out the battle cry "Cobraaaa *aak* *aak* *aak*" As I am also a Transformers fan, I saw this episode first before the G.I. Joe- The Movie, so in my head, this is accepted canon at least from the animated cartoon standpoint, and I accept THIS as the true fate of Cobra Commander, and not "Once a man..." But of course, this opens a whole new set of problems of whether the Transforms and GI Joe taking place in the same shared universe... But that's a story for another day...
35:27 totally agree with hcc788 i don't like cobra la at all either it seems like 2 me after cobra la and the 1987 ainimated movie gi joe started going downhill from there
Lol, letting Golobulus just lie there on the turntable at during the final summation...
cobras la Was Cool
python should've been in the 3 pack instead of royal gaurd
Which tattoo is that on arm ? According to comic book ; Storm Shadow and Snakes had similar tattoos but each different
Did they ever explain why all of Cobra's weapons and equipment are inorganic?
So, what got you back into GI Joe?
jumped... the... shark
Can the convergence continue all year?
