Thanks for watching! Yes, I was a gun and military technology enthusiast but not in the military. I got out of that hobby a long time ago, sales of which actually funded some of my early large GI Joe purchases!

1989 Scoop was shown to be an ex-crimson guard in the cartoons.

I feel like these guys should have been re used for the Slaughter's Marauders sub team. also, Mercer could have saved Hasbro some cash if they just used a Viper body, waist and legs!

1987 Taurus and 1984 Recondo, two characters that are really characteristic for their saber and their machete, correspondingly, and Hasbro didn't add this accessories to any of both. A real pity. Really miss that in both.

I was a big fan of Mercer after the movie. So much that I begged for a flat top haircut, so I could look like him! As an adult, I did attempt a customized version from his Renegade version, an actual Viper for the uniform, and the second version. I used the arm with the glove and the head from v1, the opposite (non chainmail) arm from v2, and I think it came out pretty awesome. Lost it in a move from AZ to NY unfortunately!

Something I just thought of today is Mercer kind of fits as a Naval trooper . His orange vest could be a life jacket. Give him a helmet and he kind of favors Topside. There aren't enough Navy troopers in the Joe universe anyway

It's funny, I agree with you that they are a bit dull, they could miss something extra,
like, for instance, the american flags on their shirts, but lately I have been realizing that they look great, all together, on the shelf. Their bright coloured shirts pop up very nicely among some other more military coloured figures, but without being too loud like other to over-coloured figures. Really nice.

Also interesting is that in Spain, at least, and I think in the rest of Europe, Mercer, Red Dog and Taurus were sold individually.

That's a crossed-out generic Cobra symbol, not exclusive to the Crimson Guard. He was an ex-Viper it says so on both the old filecard and the new one.

Nice video, After viewing for years Taurus gun, I`m convinced its the Wildey Magnum, used by Charles Bronson in Death Wish 3. Some weapons on GIJOE are inspired in many used in movies and tv shows. for example frostbite rifle with high telescopic its identical to a soldier in the forest pursuit in close encounters of the third kind.

Mercer's pistol reminds me of an AMT Automag IV.

Me too. Reminds me in the AMT Automag II in caliber .22wmr. This would also fit into the time period the figure was made.

I like how you end up appreciating more certain figures that in a beginning you didn't like much, like the 1985 Dreadnoks and some others, and the reasons you found. I guess you don't have them yet, but do you think you will have something similar with the 1987 Battle Force 2000 team? Of course, just assuming that, as many other collectors, included me, you may not see them as the most attractive sub-team. Will you get them?

Battle Force 2000 always gets pushed to the bottom of my want-list for various reasons. I think they are interesting toys with a complicated history, so if I were to review them it would take over a month! Honestly, I should get them while they're still cheap and easy to find.

formbx257 Yes, very curious and maybe not very well know interesting team. I still don't really like them, but it makes me think twice about them facts like they had a lot of vehicles, one per figure! (including 1989 Dee-Jay with the Pulverizer), and assembling them would result as something like their own headquarters! Quite impressive for so forgotten team. As you say they could take a month to talk about, well maybe not strictly a month, but one of those great thematic months you use to do.

baillergeaux Battleforce 2000 would have been an amazing crossover toy with the Transformers line. each vehicle changing into a robot, and them combining into a "Fortress Maximus" of sorts? ah, hindsight suggestions...

My Mercer wears a grey 1982 helmet. I think he looks a lot better with that

Is it possible those three figure were sold separatly at some point in time?
I clearly remember my parents bought me Taurus alone.

    • @formbx257
      @formbx257  8 років тому

+Rik Ice Taurus was only sold separately in Europe (as was Mercer and Red Dog). The only other way to get multi-pack figures alone was if the store repacked a damaged/returned set. Sears did that all time, I'm sure many other places did too.
