It's dawned on me that whoever wrote the story of these Metal Gear games didn't give one single flying fuck about anything making proper sense because all the other elements of the games such as music, voiceover, sound effects, graphics, gameplay etc would be outstandingly well done. It's kinda like those rich kids who go to Ivy league universities, and don't care whatever the fuck they write because daddy paid a generous donation to the University, and the professor sat with the kid during the exam with an open book, telling the kid what to write by looking at the book, and then award the kid A+.

There is one major plot hole, in the original Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake, and Metal Gear Solid Big boss is painted as some insane war loving lunatic asshole who everyone fears and does nothing good. But in Metal Gear 3 you play as big boss and he's like a pretty good guy, then in Metal Gear 4 you meet big boss (as his clone son snake) and he's actually a pretty good guy, and in peace walker you play as him again still cool, then mgsV you play as a guy playing him, who thinks he's him but Is still a pretty nice and genuine guy. But we're supposed to believe as he gets older he becomes a nuclear terrorist. But it's just at this point not possible
@@zaystation. Iirc this is explained through Peacewalker and V. Big Boss isn't a lunatic warmonger, he was just viewed like that because he was the face of a mercenary nation who owned nukes. Because most people didn't know Big Boss personally, only the fact he was some kind of mercenary king with a nuclear weapon, it's pretty easy to see how he would be painted as a warmongering asshole. Also, tbf Big Boss was kind of a jerk. He thought it was ok to use child soldiers and brainwash soldiers just to get what he wanted, and he basically used a medic and sent him to death just so BB could escape. While that might not put him in the "war loving lunatic asshole" description, it certainly gets him closer.
First games were called Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. Metal Gear Solid was a new series in the franchise. Nobody knows the first two games since they're old as hell but they're there and they're also part of the story.
It's honestly not that complicated. Metal gear solid the "first game" was released after two games on the NES I believe. But the two previous games aren't super necessary to understand the plot.

Taken individually, 1 has a decent spy thriller story. 3, too, if you take it as sort of a fairytale version of perhaps real events, with its ridiculous bosses and whatnot. 2 has a very cogent message and social commentary to it, but the story itself is not even remotely good. 2, 4, Portable Ops, Peace Walker, 5: All trash. Add it all up: overly convoluted, monumentally over-the-top and stupid trash.

I actually had a Sega CD and loved Snatcher before that (which _does_ have a pretty good story with great characters). I've played all these games. In fact, I'm replaying MGS Ghost Babel right now, as we speak. I certainly understand how people can _enjoy_ the story. I certainly enjoy aspects of it myself. But when you look at the thing as a whole, it's an absolute convoluted mess, chock full of inconsistencies, with more plot holes than a swiss cheese, and full of just plain stupidity. 2 is by far the worst offender. Now, you can tell me that sentient appendages that talk -- Liquid's Arm -- being blatantly ridiculous and just plain fucking stupid is just my "opinion", but the fact is, it _is_ blatantly ridiculous and just plain fucking stupid. If you can't acknowledge these kinds of things, I don't know what to tell ya. There's nothing wrong with enjoying kitsch, so long as you acknowledge that it's kitsch. But a lot of MGS/Kojima fans are really pretentious, and actually try to hold this shit up as high art or something. Good luck with that.

The only thing that I've found wrong in this masterpiece of a summarization is that ocelot wasn't killed by fox die at first because the nanomachines thought he was liquid and wasn't part of the original patriots. But when he fought snake and the hypnosis was undone he was back as revolver ocelot and so the nanomachines did their thing

But after the final fight, ocelot didn't have control anymore of anything since the system is destroyed and he isn't even liquid anymore so the nanomachines will recognize him as ocelot and as an original member of the patriots and kill him

I played the first 3 Solid games. The first was a masterpiece, it was a great standalone game. Did not need a sequel. The second was dumb as fuck but fun to play. The third was much less complicated and revolutionary in terms of gameplay. I played about half an hour of the fourth one after sitting through like 45 minutes of cinematics, and sold it back. i come back to this video every now and again and each time i pick up more info that i missed the previous viewings. i’d say my understanding of the metal gear series is somewhere around 11%.
I only played metal gear 2 a couple of years after it came out and I remember nothing. I had no clue what was going on, but I liked the tactical gameplay lol. I was so confused. The story jumps all over the place, tons of technical jargon, random flashy characters; information overload. Maybe I'll understand it more now that I'm older.

If you can't acknowledge these kinds of things, I don't know what to tell ya. There's nothing wrong with enjoying kitsch, so long as you acknowledge that it's kitsch. The only thing that I've found wrong in this masterpiece of a summarization is that ocelot wasn't killed by fox die at first because the nanomachines thought he was liquid and wasn't part of the original patriots. But when he fought snake and the hypnosis was undone he was back as revolver ocelot and so the nanomachines did their thing
How the FUCK do nanomachines know or care about Ocelot's subjective mindset and how it pertains to his affected personality of being Liquid Snake?!?!?

But after the final fight, ocelot didn't have control anymore of anything since the system is destroyed and he isn't even liquid anymore so the nanomachines will recognize him as ocelot and as an original member of the patriots and kill him

I played the first 3 Solid games. The first was a masterpiece, it was a great standalone game. Did not need a sequel. The second was dumb as fuck but fun to play. The third was much less complicated and revolutionary in terms of gameplay. I played about half an hour of the fourth one after sitting through like 45 minutes of cinematics, and sold it back. Fuck Hideo Kojima, he sucks dick.

I only played metal gear 2 a couple of years after it came out and I remember nothing. I had no clue what was going on, but I liked the tactical gameplay lol. I was so confused. The story jumps all over the place, tons of technical jargon, random flashy characters; information overload. Maybe I'll understand it more now that I'm older.
My favorite thing about this is I’ve played all the games and it still gives me a brain aneurysm to try and follow the story
