Nice, we had pretty much the same experience. Just came out after 3 days in there. We walked into the hut, though, and didn't go up that side as far as you did but had good fun. Great fish, very challenging. As you said, everything had to be perfect. Sore now, though, we did a lot of walking.
That was some tough fishing man. Great video again, and what a beautiful brownie you got. Lots of fly changing but it all came together in the end. Cheers Alex.
I had plenty of days where the only fish I was going to get was the one I bought at the Fishmongers. We all have that kind of day. I like that stream, I really dig the smaller water. You guys in NZ have it really good in many ways. That clear water is one of them, I will say the Red Deer as another but venison is a world of its own. We are coming into Spring here in the Northeast of the United States. Got a blast of cold coming in for the weekend, so it fly tying. Hare and Copper work's well here too. I am counting the days to the Mother's Day Hatch- Caddis and a trout feeding frenzy, being single Its one of the things I look forward to each year.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful experience. Your videos teach a lot but more importantly they make you feel there. Are you in the North or South Island of NZ?Thank you for sharing this beautiful experience. Cheers Alex
Really enjoying the overnight pack trips man. Nothing really compares to being in the middle of nowhere with just the sound of the woods, good company, and a full day of fishing
Uber cool video. Could feel the tension building. Eel at 3’22” was a horse. Imagine that nudging your leg (is that what she said?)! When the times are tough the small wins are so much sweeter. Loving the authenticity and stunning story telling in outstanding scenery. Legend. Thanks for sharing.
It might have been a tuff day but it was a beautiful day compared to what I woke up to here in Alberta. -48 with the windchill. All I could say this morning was BURRRR as I put my dog out ! Some day I'd love to get back over there again. Be safe my friend 🍻
Worth the wait as always, friend-buddy-pal. Drone shots of fog in the river valley were awesome. ‘Just eat it dude!’ Picky little bastards but GORGEOUS fish, man. And really appreciate you showing the multiple fly changes. Good reminder.
Magnifiqe intro bro, the mist in the valley, awesome drone footage, in fact the bush scenery thru out.. tuu-meke ano..dat 1st browny was a beauty 😍 nice colours n a smile to go with it, good display n underwater footage..jessed amazing how they gracefully cruise in their own domain..that tuna too 3:22 crusing along..kaapai ra brutha.. awesome 🎣n vid with good trout display n informative korero..hope the birthday boy Jared enjoyed his 🎣n an camping 🏕️ wif ya in da outback.. kaapai ra bro..still up wif 'flow'of of things..take care and be safe 💪..Kia ora ✌️🤙🎣🎣🐠🏕️🎣🦌👍
Stunning brown. How far from the sea do the eels run ? I remember seeing them in Bay OF Plenty rivers back in the 70's but not too far upstream from the river mouth.
Never get tired of watching your videos Alex. I bought an orvis last winter and it's the bees knees. Got a question about foot wear. What size boot to you wear as opposed to everyday shoes? Thinking I sould go one size larger to allow for the wadders with wet suit socks.
I’m new to fly fishing. Do you not use an indicator for that rainbow on the 101 stonefly because you are experienced and don’t need to? Or because an indicator spooks the fish? Or the indicator affects the drift?
Sometimes it’s any one of those things bro. Depends on the situation- I’m this case the fish were super spooky so I opted for no indicator to try and be as stealthy as I could and just watch the fish instead
I need split shot explained. I've never used it. But then again, my fly fishing has been pretty much limited to dry fly in summer. Where do you place it on the line ? On the dropper, or main leader line... ?
Awesome video. But you need to shape up Alex. Whisky is bad for you. Lol. I bet you still driving on the wrong side of the road. Get it together bro. Cheers
Is yelling at the river the outdoors equivalent of shouting at the TV? Gorgeous, thanks!
The harder you work the better you do! A perfect example of the truth 👍
top class footage as usual,, keep them coming and tight lines 👌😎🎣🎣
I don't fly fish but I do have a BFS setup. Seeing you fish in places like this is a dream.
Great video, Alex.
So amazing, another good one for the books.
Beautiful Stream~
Yep had those same days! Lots of casting practice 🤣
Love it
Tough day, fish were in great condition, nice to see the ducks. Good few fly changes. Another great video Alex.
Great video Alex
Nice Alex. What spectacular water.

Slick video Alex love the framing for your shots ... premo piece of water even if the fish were tricky
Cheers bro💪
Nicely done mate! Nice Trout caught and beautiful sizes 🤙
Thanks 👍
Another quality video Alex hope everyone is safe after the cyclone
Thanks man, we got away with it lightly compared to other parts of the north island
Thanks for sharing, love that first brown. Spooky trout can be very frustrating, but also a very good chance to fine tune your skill set.
Always incredible content Boss! ❤
Cheers Brutha💪
That was some tough fishing man.
Great video again, and what a beautiful brownie you got.
Lots of fly changing but it all came together in the end.
Cheers Alex.
That one fish made the whole trip for me!😍

Yeah they are the best trips for sure aye

Nice one Alan💪 We all get the tough days from time - they just make it better when it all comes together aye
I was wondering the the heck that black thing was.
Was that an EEL 3:23?
It might have been a tuff day but it was a beautiful day compared to what I woke up to here in Alberta.

@@TrippinOnTrout you said it brother !
I look forward to your next video.
Tough fishing. But the fish you did get were beautiful. Enjoyed the video. Thanks for the post Alex.

Looks like a great time. Do you ever fish for those eels? Thanks for the video.
GOSH you got some pretty water there. Great Video! New Sub from across the big drink.
Welcome to the TEAM bro!! Yeah there’s some stunning places out there aye
What the hell is happening, you guys popped of with this video. Every fish is a 10/10 prime example!! 😵💫
Nice outing, enjoy the challenge. At least you found some fishable water, been at a premium this season. Hopefully we will soon dry out.
Yeah it’s been a rough season for sure. Worst one by a long shot..

Always great to see you here enjoying the vids ❤️💪

They run upstream as elves to the top of river systems. They will climb obstacles, cross wet grass. They are amazingly resilient.

I would go a size bigger if wearing with waders but the same size if just wet wading with neoprene socks

Constantly fly changing always pays off. But it is soooo .... boring. Sometimes. 😉
Wouldn’t be as good if was east all the time would it though..🤷♂️
That first brown was such a stunner! 😍 Awesome video Alex...
I need split shot explained. I've never used it. But then again, my fly fishing has been pretty much limited to dry fly in summer. Where do you place it on the line ? On the dropper, or main leader line... ?
I’ll do a Friday Filler on it for you..
Awesome video. But you need to shape up Alex. Whisky is bad for you. Lol. I bet you still driving on the wrong side of the road. Get it together bro. Cheers
Why is this other mate not fishing ? Do y’all fish until you catch one?
…Man, take me back to NZ! Like fishing in tap water.
Damn the weather has fucked us here you're so lucky!
That trip was months ago bro. We have been hammered all season too - by far the worst one I’ve ever known🌧️🌧️🌧️
@TrippinOnTrout been absolutely devastating on all fronts to say the Least.
@@s.t.houtdoorsnz.1454 Yeah man, i see parts of Gisborne are Getting evacuated again right now. It’s relentless
