Oh my God this is what I've been saying for every team based game. Especially when it comes to class based games. I'm a solo queue player mostly because I have no friends and getting a team of your own is already too much work over a videogame.
@@LordVader1094 I think I understand where you are coming from because I used to play a lot of team fortress 2 growing up. Thing is, it's still a class based shooter at heart and you still have to rely on your teammates and hope to GOD they do their role perfectly. But if you're a casual player or someone that likes to play a lot of custom servers then this may not apply to you.
It's almost a paradox, in a sense. Playing any video game, you want to feel like you're having an impact. That doesn't necessarily mean killing the most enemies or moving the payload the furthest, it can just mean keeping your team alive as a healer or dropping an important resource in a good position. You want to feel like you matter, and that your efforts make a large impact on the outcome. But being a team based game, this requires some amount of teamwork. And in a video game where most people aren't communicating or cooperating effectively, this ACTUALLY means that your 5 (or 4) teammates now become potential hinderances to your personal victory if they don't play perfectly. You only control 1/6th of the assets that help you achieve victory, and this gets VERY frustrating when you feel you're playing very well (and you may or may not be, objectively), but losing over and over all the same because of crappy teamwork. I think this phrase hits the nail on the head. The amount of teamwork anticipated for you to have a good time is unrealistic. If there's a way to fix it, I haven't played a game that has found it.
Games like this are different. Imagine in the real world you get teamed up with 4 other people and have to accomplish a goal. They could be 5 random people from anywhere in the world. Games like this do just that. Sometimes its toxic, but other times its awesome.

I’ve heard that most of the PvE team got fired when Activision was trying to take out unnecessary expenses or something in 2019. One of the problems with queues is the role distribution. They couldn't find 33% (2/6) of players willing to play healer before, and now that they took a tank out, they need 40% (2/5) of players to pick healer. Those healer mains just aren't in the player base. Everyone wants to play DPS still, because there's still twice as many DPS heroes.
tanks were by far the issue for queue times not healers. agree more options for tanking/healing should have been a priority but I think even if they did people would still lean dps and queue times would still suck
I was a dedicated support player but they ruined the game for me by releasing characters like doomfist and hamster. Sorry but that shit is just not fun to try and deal with. I learned how to play around it to some degree but that still didn't make it fun again.
The problem is we have a small roster of supports and only 3 of them can realistically do anything in an actual fight. The others are cannon fodder for Junk/Doom/Reaper. I’m not asking for supports to deal DPS levels of damage, but it’s stupid that a half health damage can win a fight against a full health support.
The biggest reason why everyone is playing DPS and Tank is because that's where the changes are. Support still feels strong and kinda fun but there's absolutely nothing new to try. Tank and DPS both have a tonne of changes to try out.
I remember watching a video detailing TF2's class design. Basically, each class was designed so that most of them (aside from the Medic, I guess, and even then he's still got a good amount of tools to protect himself when necessary) can support themselves. This sort of opposite approach to balancing a team helps TF2 because of the fact that it doesn't expect anyone to work as a team. By going solo, you're still contributing, so a team of complete strangers with zero communication would still work well as a team since everyone is contributing on their own terms. TF2 realized this idea over a decade ago.
TF2 is also designed for everyone to have different playstyles and still work. Pretty much everyone, even the Medic, can go full melee and do well. Demoman can focus on any of his weapons and do well. A good Medic can pretty much snipe with the crossbow. So on so forth.
I mean overwatch never goes for that approach because it's not tf2. It's not a game where you can run around on your own, its a team based game that's the whole point. On the other hand this 5v5 setup is dog shit and with nothing being changed? Yeah no this is a major let down

Despite the bot problem, Team Fortress 2 still has a dedicated fanbase, despite being totally abandoned by Valve and left to rot. How did Blizzard manage to ruin OW so hard? It had everything going for it!
It's because, bot and abandonment issues aside, TF2 is well-balanced and just plain fun, and as a result it still holds up to this very day. The problem with Overwatch is that Blizzard tried to please everyone, and they ended up pleasing no one; the game is boring and soul-sucking for pros, and borderline unplayable for casuals. They should have picked a road and stuck with it; either make it a highly focused, competitive game designed for pros and eSports, or make it a zany, all-out, anything-goes free-for-all designed for casuals. With the Overwatch League now on life support, streaming at all-time lows, and the casual crowd tuning out in droves, Blizzard now has to lie on the bed it's made for itself.
One word: Bastion I know everybody's like "yeah, you just don't know how to defeat him". I do. I'm just tired of having to do it again, and again, and again, forever. Bastion sucked the life out of every fking match and forced the meta into a perpetual unyielding loop. I still think that the fact the ONLY NEW Character ADDED IS A DPS, when there are 7 SUPPORTS IN THE ENTIRE GAME just goes to show how little they care about balance. Especially when one of your 7 supports is basically just a DPS and doesn't even heal much. You have this crappy role que because you refuse to add more supports in the game. Make supports interesting, que times go down. What they did with tanks is a good start but they need to either do something similar for supports or rework/inject 10 new supports into the game to make it not fail at launch.
there will be several new heros when the game launches. Not sure why they didnt give us more than 1 new hero to play for the beta. Just hurts the image of Overwatch even more. Its making it look like theres no content at all.
And how many of those do you think is gonna be a healer lol? “It’s just a beta” with this few changes does not bode well for a fresh and exciting release.

It says a lot that pro and high level players think 5v5 and role passives are the best things to ever happen to the game while casuals don’t understand why. The characters are clearly going to go through balance tweaks throughout the beta periods but the game even now is 1000x more fun than OW1

@Tee Hee completely agree, they had something fun, took out all variation to gamemodes, made tons of gun and character "balance" changes that removed a lot of fun from many operators so that the .00000001% of people who play this game as an esport could be happy (they weren't anyway,) and then continually dumped broken character after character alongside a fuck ton more only semi-broken ones that you need to play a bullshit amount to unlock (rip renown grinding, was too fun to play and unlock stuff for free as a reward), ending up in just you paying real money for characters you dont want that you have to have in order to stand a chance at winning. the game was so much fun and pretty damn original, operation health was amazing and I wish that the developers would stop changing the formula and just focus on more non game-breaking content instead. more casual gamemodes, maybe a couple much more carefully planned characters, a couple carefully planned maps. not a fucking 10 minute long character and map ban phase on only csgo rip off gamemode with 42000 characters that cost you either 2000 hours or $20 to play. rip R6 and rip overwatch.

Dunkey makes a good point about most of the heroes being designed for 6v6 excluding the few reworked characters. You'd think they would rework every hero for balance purposes. They've had the time after all.
Not to mention the maps, the game is fundamentally designed to be played around tanks and now most of the time you don’t even have a main tank (zarya, roadhog, hamston, doomfist, orisa)

less, nearly two years for a few new maps, and one new character. Most of the QoL updates like the scoreboard are nice, but removing stuns and a tank was unnecessary.
1 tank composition means that teams almost completely rely on the tank player to be competent enough. If you die as a tank there's no backup tank and your team will most likely have to wait for you to respawn. From what I can see there will be a pool of only 2-3 tanks that will be picked everytime, every other tank will be an off-tank, which would be kind of useless, as 1. you lose on the defense and pushing potential and 2. you could just have a DPS hero in off-tank's place. If you have 2 tanks, then you will be put at a disadvantage against the enemy team which has picked meta tank and in result has more DPS or healers.
You say whichever team has meta tank - but also that off-tanks would be useless. But off-tanks are meta in OW2 right now. And have been in OW1 for like a year and change, as well. So I'm not convinced you know what you're talking about.
@@PrometheusXV yeah dude because there's 2 of them. that changes completely with only 1. he's talking about with 5 people and 1 tank. not 6 people and 2.
I've been playing the beta since the second day and I think the 1 tank composition is what I enjoy the most. It means that people don't need to rely on the tanks anymore, everyone needs to be better playing on their own and improve their skills, there's less time spamming dmg on shields and the tanks are way more independent and dynamic. The thing that I think needs to be fix first is make the healers more self sustainable. The dps can easily go to the backline now and kill them. I think they are making a faster game, more dynamic and with a better focus on solo skill rather than team compositions.

The moment they started releasing heroes as answers to problems instead of just to introduce something fun to the game, is when they killed the game. They sucked all the fun out of the casual experience, isolating them from the competitive players. For every fun and fresh new change (like buffing Lucio to make his wallride feel super smooth and intuitive), they made 3 bad ones for the sake of "fixing" the game. And then their attempts to "fix" the game just made the ranked players angrier as well. That, plus trying to force Overwatch into being an esport is like the tale of the goose that laid golden eggs. They got greedy and tried to push out more of those golden eggs, only for it to blow up in their face.
In the beginning There was mercy, zen and Lucio.. Then they added Ana: a character with all the utility in the world for casuals to use, you can aim it like a hit scan but without the penalties of a hit scan, Let's not tackle how powerful Nade is.. Next up: came Sombra she was powerful but eventually she became a niche pick > then this was the time when casuals were crying about genji's and tracers aka dive.. So what blizzard did ? Created Orisa as a attempt to "Halt" dive :). Then came doomfist, a fun versatile but a abusable character aka punch boting, made FOR the people sucking at dive AND hit scan.. See the trend ? Heroes with massive defenses or heroes with massive amounts of easy to hit utility / dmg "abilities" in each category.. Moira was the pinnacle of "I can't aim" after the sym rework.. Then brig came.. And all of a sudden you saw 3k players in 4k as brig OTP's, wrecking ball > Ashe > bap > sigma > echo.. In chronological order.. In alpha when only the content creators and Devs were in, they made notes that Sojurn is to strong.. So they Nerfed her by the time the beta came out, then all sorts of ranks flodded the game and they got a different response from them.. They felt sojurn is to weak, some others said shes to strong… Can you guess wich response came from wich bracket ? IT TURNS OUT, that a HIGH LEVEL PLAYER can do so much more with a character then a low elo player but those same players will counter that character better too 😂Who would've guessed, better players are rewarded more while the same toy in the hands of someone casual, it will just not be nowhere near as strong or efficient.. So what is Casual experience ? Is it not being emotionally invested in a match ? Not wanting to Compete on ladder ? Easy fun ? Idk man, i think the game is full of easy fun, but as a matter of fact you should not be rewarded for the easy way out, but people are being rewarded for it.. i'd say Sojurn is the first character in a long time that DOESN'T, Just does not care if you don't hit your shots.. Before they tried to make the unmovable walls and the unstoppable forces at the same time.. "Whaaa i keep dying to XZ" then reaction came from "Whaaa i can't kill ZX" Creating this ever circulating loop hole of stronger defenses, stronger attacks.. But let's forget about ALL THIS.. I just have one separate question.. Why should a player that is "casual" matter more to the game then those that are passionate and competitive ? So the "Please your core audience" isn't true anymore ? Double standards i guess..
@@djohnsveress6616 my dude. We talk about a big company. they are required to cater to their casual audience, when they want to make money. Core audience comes later on. no double standards here. just business.
@@djohnsveress6616 "Who would've guessed, better players are rewarded more while the same toy in the hands of someone casual, it will just not be nowhere near as strong or efficient.." Dude. It's a team based shooter. The entire point of the game is to win so of course someone with more skill will be better able to use their hero.
Trueee. Like how they removed Scatter Arrow for Hanzo. Yeah that thing was broken af but it was a fun mechanic and trivial to the characters identity. Or symmetra getting reworked entirely. Yeah she was kind of the black sheep of the character roster but it made her at least unique and somewhat interesting. Instead they made her even more boring to play then she already was. Yes it works, but if it’s not fun nobody cares
It's sad when The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe put in more new content than this, and that game's point was riffing on companies making slapdash sequels for a quick buck. This is what that game satirized made real.
You mean a company that has ditched its work ethic, sold out its player base, and lost most of its talented and creative staff; wasn't able to do anything other than re skin their original game? I'm shocked I tell you, SHOCKED.
Tbh OW alr bad at third anni, starts of event rerun. Also, if OW1 updates are rare as hell, how could OW2 with way less team and F2P model could get more?
And btw, blizzard has planned OW2 to be not really a sequel WAAAY before this shitfest happen They were saying skin from OW1 transfered to OW2, ik it's going to be bad
I played over 1000 hours on overwatch, and I quit a year ago because it’s so toxic and I was tired of getting screamed at by randoms for trying my best. Thank you dunkey for removing any doubt in my mind that I should try the sequel
Its funny he said "people still yell at you for playing hamster. Was in a game yesterday and this exact thing happened. The guy was playing really well too and we won.
@@AydinTiras Well Dunkey complained it wasn't balanced. It isn't supposed to be. It's a beta. He said all the heroes need fundamental changes. That's what blizzard is doing right now, majorly reworking four heroes (Sombra, Bastion, Orisa, Doomfist), minorly reworking Brigitte, Reinhardt, Zarya, Winston, Cassidy, Mei, and tuning everyone else.
With the change to one tank, it's essential that players know to fall back if the tank dies and the team fight isn't working. If a team knows this, then players have to break off and stop fighting to wait for a the tank to respawn even if they've done well, which isn't fun. If a team doesn't know this, they'll fight futile battles and get stomped, which isn't fun.
You know what I like about games like pokémon Unite, and even Blizzard's Heroes of the Storm? You can draft five tanks or five support if you want. It's your team. It's your choice. This whole idea of forcing roles is just an excuse to not actually balance the game
you already have to fall back if the enemy picks a tank or a healer, nothing has really changed in that regard. You never want to take a 5v6 if you can help it
@@kamikeserpentail3778 see, Smite does this too. There's "roles" you can queue for the MOBA mode but you can literally pick any character for that role. Is it optimal to run a tank jungler? Fuck no, but you can do it and nobody can tell you otherwise.
I had the exact reaction you described when I saw a few streamers playing this earlier in the week. The game looks exactly like overwatch 1, to the point that I genuinely believed for a while they were all playing OW1 waiting for the beta to open, just to get some practice in. There will be a year long hype cycle for this game just like every other shooter on the market, then this will be dropped by most of the playerbase outside of the hardcore, if Blizzard was hoping this would be the game that would rocket them back into the market and into peoples favor, they're gonna be sorely mistaken.
I doubt Blizzard cares. They obviously didn't invest a great deal of money into development. Even if OW2 is a disaster they'll still pull a huge profit simply because it's a sequel to an established IP, company reputation be damned.

"The game still expects an unrealistic amount of teamwork from random players" hit different
Oh my God this is what I've been saying for every team based game. Especially when it comes to class based games. I'm a solo queue player mostly because I have no friends and getting a team of your own is already too much work over a videogame.
@@Azami0001 Except TF2.

@@paperfart3988 i honestly couldnt agree more. Im still an ana main overall but now I mainly play junkrat/sigma

More games would really benefit from this mindset, but apparently it is too high IQ
TF2 is also designed for everyone to have different playstyles and still work.
Pretty much everyone, even the Medic, can go full melee and do well. Demoman can focus on any of his weapons and do well. A good Medic can pretty much snipe with the crossbow. So on so forth.
And on top of that, the game doesn’t punish you for actively trying to work together, even if you don’t necessarily need to in order to succeed.
Sorry to do this to you, but you mean over two decades ago.

Fanbase is pretty toxic though, and has racism + anti-LGBT + sexism problems
One word: Bastion
I know everybody's like "yeah, you just don't know how to defeat him". I do. I'm just tired of having to do it again, and again, and again, forever.
Bastion sucked the life out of every fking match and forced the meta into a perpetual unyielding loop. They waited until OW2 to fix him, so they knew he was bad gameplaywise but just postponed fixing him for YEARS.
There's not even marrow left in the bones of Blizzard.

My gosh, Dunkey made the sequel to this video, and followed blizzard’s strategy of copying and pasting the same game with as little change as possible. Except he did a better job, I didn’t even notice till I saw a comment in the new one mention it. Blizzard should be taking notes.
It’s a beta. They have 6 new heroes planned at launch.
there will be several new heros when the game launches. Not sure why they didnt give us more than 1 new hero to play for the beta. Just hurts the image of Overwatch even more. Its making it look like theres no content at all.
They should bring back sym as a support
And how many of those do you think is gonna be a healer lol? “It’s just a beta” with this few changes does not bode well for a fresh and exciting release.
They teased 6 new heroes so far, might be more or not idk.
I know it also had issues but I feel like release or even beta Overwatch was the game at its peak. The vision was clear and uncompromised, the characters felt like their abilities matched their design, and there was more variety. Now it all feels diluted and muddy. A vision clouded by indecision.

I think they are making a faster game, more dynamic and with a better focus on solo skill rather than team compositions.

i love the way dunkey says "You haven't done NUUTHIIIINNN"
"instead of just to introduce something fun to the game"
like what
In the beginning There was mercy, zen and Lucio..
"Whaaa i keep dying to XZ" then reaction came from "Whaaa i can't kill ZX"
Creating this ever circulating loop hole of stronger defenses, stronger attacks.. But let's forget about ALL THIS.. I just have one separate question..
Why should a player that is "casual" matter more to the game then those that are passionate and competitive ? So the "Please your core audience" isn't true anymore ?
Double standards i guess..

This whole idea of forcing roles is just an excuse to not actually balance the game
you already have to fall back if the enemy picks a tank or a healer, nothing has really changed in that regard. You never want to take a 5v6 if you can help it
One tank means people will hate if you not pick a shield abuser
Imagine telling the OVERWATCH PLAYERBASE that they need to know when to fall back.
The HUD is significantly different (significantly worse IMO), so it's easy to tell if you look for that.
Bro this is not gonna last a year lmao
Except it’s not. It’s a 5v5. This game will survive like any other, role que and custom games saved it for me
I doubt Blizzard cares. They obviously didn't invest a great deal of money into development. Even if OW2 is a disaster they'll still pull a huge profit simply because it's a sequel to an established IP, company reputation be damned.
@@meggaman7 idk.. I'm not buying it if this is what it is..
This aged well.
"You haven't done NUTHIIIINNNN" Had me laughing so hard. Dunkey still killing it on UA-cam after all these years.
Stillllll the king
Yeah, too bad he has no idea wtf he's talking about. OW2 is great
@@qwerty62201 yea its as good as OW1
This is why I love Blizzard. They always fail up to my expectations.
Lol
Im just waiting for them to somehow screw up WotLK classic
@@Explosivevortex they already did. releasing wotlk this year is another cash grab attempt, the first thing they mentioned was that lvl 58 boost are available. I dunno just shows where the priorities are.
@@user-sb7wj1vn4x nah a level boost to 58 isn't that bad, a level 80 boost with pvp/dungeon gear would be actually bad
@@Explosivevortex oh sorry its a 68 lvl boost, typo'd
Blizzard is the perfect example of a game studio focused on everything except making a good fun game.
All I know is everything good from the 90s and 2000s died in 2010/2020s. Valve/Id stopped making big games. Halo is a joke. Blizzard can't stop doing illegal things. Pokemon made a Pokemon game and left out most of the Pokemon. Rockstar and Bethesda are finding ways to port gtav and skyrim to the next thing. BioWare made mass effect4. The list goes on. I will say there could be hope for some of these games, but overall its depressing.
@@pleasedontwatchthese9593 Then move on. Lots of great new games have come out since then. It ain't hard to figure out. Stop being a simp for nostalgia.
@@milk_bath My point wasn't that there aren't new games, I was not talking about those and I play modern stuff. Its that the past ones have been dropping the ball. Its what this whole video was about and I was keeping on subject.
Meanwhile indie studios have been killing it for the last decade.
@@milk_bath I agree, mostly. Just find something good that you will enjoy but there are times when you just want to play some Battlefield, and 2042 is not going to do it. Good thing people are still playing the older games but sometimes there isn't a comparable game to switch to.
I just came back because of a comment from the new video. And goddamn that was a big brain move. Hats off to you sir.
