    I was really in a pinch one day when trying to change the oil in my moms car. The bolt was on so tight that it stripped out when I tried to take it off. Luckily my dad had an Irwin extractor kit and it was still tough to get off but it worked! Highly recommended.

    I don't get it, every video on stripped bolts I've seen is an oil pan bolt, every oil pan bolt I've ever seen has been stripped to shit. I think mechanics are putting them back on tightening them as hard as there power tools can and purposefully stripping them so that we don't change our oil ourselves. So annoying lol.

    • @Rythecarguy
      @Rythecarguy  2 роки тому +22

      Right!?! I think it's oil change shops and they are paranoid about the oil leaking so they tighten the hell out of it. Because if they are the cause of an oil leak and it ruins the Engine they are on the hook.

      Bolt extractors have saved me twice getting stuck lug nuts off of wheels. Just make sure you already have a new set of nuts on hand if you try it. You won't be able to reuse the old ones after using bolt extractors on them.

    These things have gotten me out of some tough situations. I had a mounting bolt once on my 78 f250 on the front radiator support that stripped out. Completely locked in place by rust. I had to beat one of these on and use my huge impact with a swivel socket and an extension and it still came out. The middle of the bolt was literally missing half of its meat from rust. They have also worked on male pipe plugs.

    Currently dealing with a stripped oil pan drain bolt myself. Valvoline tech tried to remove it, ended up chewing the hell out of the bolt and folding the edges over the top of it instead. It looks like mush. Figured this would be my wakeup call and do the work myself. They serviced it two previous times but I guess the second time one of the techs went sicko mode on the threads. Welp, never again. Better to do the work yourself if you can wing it and know someone cared.

    I have the amartisan set from Amazon that project farm tested. If you think that’s rounded off you should have seen the rear brake caliper slide pin bolts on my rx330. Whoever did them last put no grease on them and they were rusted on. I had to take the caliper off, hammer the bolt biters on and then torque a cheater on a ratchet and a pry bar in opposite directions. At about 80 lbs/ft almost thought I wasn’t going to be able to get them off.

      @@Rythecarguy Thanks! But now I broke one of the turbo hard lines bending it, trying to fit this bigger turbo. LOL one thing after another. I’m going to replace the lines with braided steel hose.

    This my friends, is why you use a torque wrench on things like oil pan bolts. So you don't fuck the next guy (or yourself) when it has to come off again. Ugga dugga caveman mechanics are the worst lol.
    And vise versa too, my brother's car had a low oil pressure/check engine light pop up on the highway because the lube tech didn't tighten the drain bolt tight enough. Luckily he stopped his car before he ran out of oil.

      omg, that's insane. I would be mega-pissed if someone didn't tighten the drain. glad he didn't blow it up.
