I love this track. I’m from the blue ridge mountains in NC and lost my only brother to alcoholism in 2018. This song reminds me so much of him. Just before he passed away he ask me to hold his had until he took his last breath. Which I did.. Good bye Carolina. Hate to leave you. I’ll see you on the other side of the blue ridge sky. That was my precious brother saying his goodbye. I miss him daily.
I'm sure he knows. But he's doing what he likes the way he likes to rather than trying to figure out how to dumb down his music to get more promotion. He'll have longevity like this (already has).
Putting aside the incredible guitar playing, and all round skill of the band, the sound tech deserves a huge raise for this recording. Studio quality!!
For real. Nothing IMO beats a good live sound mixed at high quality. Nothing beats the synergy of live musicians being good at what they do and catching it.
I remember learning this song is a tribute to Marcus’ good friend who he lost to suicide. He wrote it from his friend’s perspective. What a beautiful song
I have to rank him with the greats , I pray he don’t go overboard and keeps his nose clean and lives a long life with a long music career because I will be listening the whole way .
I’ve had the pleasure of seeing him twice and talking with him after the first show for a good 15 minutes. They had played the night before on Kimmel in LA , driven all night to play their solo tour opener in Albuquerque . Marcus was personable , humble, and appreciative of all the compliments that I was heaping on him. He must have been exhausted but I would never have known by his demeanor. Taking compliments well can be harder than it sounds. Especially when I was honestly gushing to him that he’s already the heir apparent guitar god and that seeing his band is like seeing the young Allman Brothers. I stand by every word. I am so happy this man and this band do what they do with such dedication .Shout out to Tedeschi and Trucks and Warren Haynes for befriending the next generation of great musicians ! So much love.
I can't help from asking myself why an Spanish old man like me sees himself so hooked on this song, artist and different performances of such an incredible tune... from blues to country, from jazz to rock,... everything's there just waiting for you to open your ears at last. So great...
Said it takes a selfish man....leave on out....from his own hometown without saying why he's going. Man, I feel these lyrics. This whole song is alot of my own life Great song Marcus King Band. I'm forever a fan
With country music on the decline with its overuse of snap and pop tracks alongside synthesizers Marcus goes and writes one of the best country music songs of this decade
“I was a broken man in my old hometown. Need to find my own peace.” This line cuts me deep every time I hear it. Marcus has clearly studied and had had Warren Haynes as a mentor. But he’s definitely his own man. Catch these guys live! This guy and his band are something special.
Marcus King will carry the torch of all the great southern rock/blues bands, in my opinion... Thank God for him.. He's all from his heart and soul and so young when he wrote this.. Find the interview of the meaning/reason for the song.. It's deep.. Peace
Marcus~ I been following you on y~tube for a couple years now. I feel you man . Your right on time in my life. Thank you kindly for sharing your gift of songs you've written and your many musical talents. You are blessed in so many ways and I truly am by you. Thank you kindly... for being just YOU, Hoping you come to Wichita for a concert live at The TEMPLE The Wave. .or The Cotillion Ballroom.
Derek Truck is my favourite slide player! Seeing this I must say that Marcus isn't a bad slide player! Vocal, guitar playing everything is in the pocket.
I dreamed of the day That I'd hold you in my arms again Read you all the letters I wrote, never sent Give you all the pieces of me Put 'em back together Put 'em back together again Life has a way of writing your story for you And the hero doesn't always get his girl What if you could change the ending To the novel they've been writing Leave no resolution [Chorus] So goodbye Carolina Searched my whole life to find you I hate to leave you But I hope you'll know Where I'm going I'll be seeing you So hold my hand as I'm leaving Hoped my pain would be enough reason I'll see you on the other side of the Blue Ridge sky Now I'm going Hate to tell you goodbye [Verse 2] Say it takes a selfish man To leave on out from his old hometown Without saying why he's going But you can come take the rest of me Early in the morning Tell me your goodbyes Where I'm going I won't have these reminders Of what I lost and what was taken away from me And I hope you'll understand I was a broken man in my own hometown Need to find my own peace [Chorus] So goodbye Carolina Searched my whole life to find you I hate to leave you But I hope you'll know Where I'm going I'll be seeing you So hold my hand as I'm leaving Hoped my pain would be enough reason I'll see you on the other side of the Blue Ridge sky Now I'm going Hate to tell you goodbye
Marcus is the 'REAL DEAL' ... Loads of talent, and a song writing ability that rivals the all time greats. His attitude is 'just right' to carry him to the stars ... and beyond. A major influence in the music world .. and just 24 years old.
About 3 and a half minutes in i start cryin already because i know whats about to happen. Its about the same exact experience that happens in the middle of Freebird too, that transition from one loving realm into another ponderous and imminent realm of a grateful goodbye.
At this point, I don't think I have found a live performance that he doesn't just flat out knock it out of the park. It is now a top priority for me to go see these guys live.
This is my favorite Marcus King tune. His guitar solo sounds like it was lifted from a 70’s Marshall Tucker song and the song topic and lyrics make it sound even more so like a song from them. But it’s an original and I love it. He’s an original.
Shit is REAL ! Absolute masterpiece by a young legend . I have Seen them twice so far , once just last month , if they come to your town don't miss them !
I saw these guys play with TTB last summer on the Wheels of Soul tour... they blew the roof off the place. And when Marcus came out to Jam with Derek and Susan - magic.
I got hip to him through a Rolling Stone interview with Chris Stapleton, who couldn't say enough about him. Incredible artist playing with other incredible artists.
Wow... that was some of the best playing I've ever seen from a young man. From any player in my opinion... that was next level stuff. Amazing band too.
For the longest time I couldn't understand why listening to Marcus or Billy Strings or Allen Stone made me so happy but left me wanting to cry. I finally figured it out. The future of music is not lost nor is it dead and the excitement of these exceptionally talented young artist is worth sticking around for. You all make my heart sing with joy. Thank You!!!!!!
What hot licks and that earthy rock voice. Where has this gruop been all My™ musical lief? Out from under that rock I been living. And I'm from Allman Bros waaay back. King SOLID.
Marcus the time is right Americans need this great pick up in these hard times 💯👍🏻🇺🇲💪🏻🤠 keep up the great tunes coming 🙏🏻❤️ thank you, god bless y'all 🎤🎯
I've seen them all over the years,,but mkb are in a league of there own,, I have no words but praise,,just keep doing what obliviously comes so natural to these guys,,,,,I hope they are around for many years to come,,,
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 holy moly, this is unreal... The closing solo is up there next to Derek’s stuff in the hall of legends 😎 fabulous stuff! Cannot wait for the 5.11 London 🙌
This is just as good as any classic from any legendary band, insanely talented both voice and guitar chops, band is great too. Im in awe. / Fan from sweden
I am a lover of all music but primarily hip hop, reggae and salsa...Steel Pulse brought me here! Point is it takes a lot for me to listen to rock in general. But if my favorite band in the world reccomends someone, they rarely do, I gotta listen. HOOKED!! Bluesy southern type rock is my favorite and this band hits the spot! The depth of emotion this music creates. Some of these songs are better than the classics. Stay alive people!! I want to be 80 hearing thier 20th studio album!
This song NEEDS to be on a album!!! Praise to the mixer and LAWD to Jamming in the Van that has had some the best musicians and songs played in that little studio!!!
I love this song. I can't quit listening to it and our band will be covering this song! That's how much we love it! Marcus is a super talented young man! And his band is filled with talent. I hope to catch them live next time they come threw KY
just absolutely moving every time. You can see how much his soul is voiced through the guitar like it's an extension of him. I wish to get to that state. Marcus King has enough soul to heal the world. so moved and inspired, absolutely awe struck by another talented artist.
I just discovered him..amazing! For some reason he popped up on my videos..but I am a Chris Stapleton fan..but this guy has some Neville brothers voice there
these guys deserve so many more views and likes than what they have gotten Markus is a young legend on the guitar very talented and still learning and growing I hope to shake this mans hand one day...
Marcus is soooooo good. I've seen him live twice (3 years apart) he was just as good at 19 as he is now... Just a joy to listen to. Thank you Mr. King xoxox
You guys are badass. This hits to the heart. I grew up in the military and left North Carolina when I was a KId. I'm from California but my heart is torn between the coasts. I live in Delaware now and hope to head down south this next summer and show my kids my old Stompin grounds. So many memories in Jacksonville (Camp Legune).
I love this track. I’m from the blue ridge mountains in NC and lost my only brother to alcoholism in 2018. This song reminds me so much of him. Really good music is the greatest gift to all the world 🤘
Very sad Pat I have done the same with three brothers. I’m sober 19 years a day at a time. Peace man!💪
Great story - thank you for sharing. Condolences to you and your family.
Never lost family.... Sorry
💙🙏🏻💙😓💔
I feel like this guy has no idea how unbelievably talented he is.
I'm sure he knows. But he's doing what he likes the way he likes to rather than trying to figure out how to dumb down his music to get more promotion. He'll have longevity like this (already has).
He's a 'humble' sorta' guy .. in total control of his ego ~~
He definitely knows. You don't dress like that otherwise 😂😂 it's called hidden ego

Well, money talks
i just discovered this dude like 10 mins ago and i’m obsessed with him.
ditto!
he's amazing. saw him live and now he's touring the world so prolly won't see him again for a while
same dude, his voice is unbelievable
Listen to this song live at the Grand Ole Opry. Check out Jimmy Stings with him too. Phenomenal
It's been over a month since my M.K. awakening, still going strong. Can't wait till we can all go see LIVE music IN PERSON again ...
Putting aside the incredible guitar playing, and all round skill of the band, the sound tech deserves a huge raise for this recording. Studio quality!!
Spot on.
Perfect tone. Yummy
For real. Nothing IMO beats a good live sound mixed at high quality. Nothing beats the synergy of live musicians being good at what they do and catching it.
Jam in the van is always spot on! Love these guys! 🫶🏻

How does the world not bow down to Marcus
Just missed him at Bataclan…….so effin 😢
With country music on the decline with its overuse of snap and pop tracks alongside synthesizers Marcus goes and writes one of the best country music songs of this decade
When I want to listen to this song I always come here. This is hands down the best version of this song. 💯
I agree!:)
The Grand ole Opry version aint bad.
Eric Vaughn go check out the grand ole Opry version. It might change your mind
Ol Oprey version has some damn good sound too... but nonetheless these guys can friggin play
Same here dude!
They struck GOLD with this jam. Carolina born and raised, honoured to share this with such talent.
“I was a broken man in my old hometown. Need to find my own peace.” This line cuts me deep every time I hear it. Marcus has clearly studied and had had Warren Haynes as a mentor. But he’s definitely his own man. Catch these guys live! This guy and his band are something special.
Great comment man! Dig the name too.

Marcus King is in his 20s and plays like a 40 something yr old. Phenomenal!
This is why people all over the world are stopped dead in their tracks by deep American music. Im from Spain, England and India, for instance.
Politics divides music brings people together. I love that I'm so glad I started playing guitar again during this time.
This dude is the real deal .he's a fix I have daily
Takes you to another place and makes you forget the world sucks
The hero doesn’t always get his girl - thx Marcus
Where I'm going I won't have these reminders what I lost and what was taken away from me" Gets me every time!
Marcus has his very own style for sure!!
Derek Truck is my favourite slide player! Seeing this I must say that Marcus isn't a bad slide player! Vocal, guitar playing everything is in the pocket.
Small space, BIG sound!
Dude is a true professional as good as it gets all around he’s got it
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Spotify just recommended me this band and I can't stop listening to them. Amazing songs
I dreamed of the day
That I'd hold you in my arms again
Read you all the letters I wrote, never sent
Give you all the pieces of me
Put 'em back together
Put 'em back together again
Life has a way of writing your story for you
And the hero doesn't always get his girl
What if you could change the ending
To the novel they've been writing
Leave no resolution
[Chorus]
So goodbye Carolina
Searched my whole life to find you
I hate to leave you
But I hope you'll know
Where I'm going I'll be seeing you
So hold my hand as I'm leaving
Hoped my pain would be enough reason
I'll see you on the other side of the Blue Ridge sky
Now I'm going
Hate to tell you goodbye
[Verse 2]
Say it takes a selfish man
To leave on out from his old hometown
Without saying why he's going
But you can come take the rest of me
Early in the morning
Tell me your goodbyes
Where I'm going I won't have these reminders
Of what I lost and what was taken away from me
And I hope you'll understand
I was a broken man in my own hometown
Need to find my own peace
[Chorus]
So goodbye Carolina
Searched my whole life to find you
I hate to leave you
But I hope you'll know
Where I'm going I'll be seeing you
So hold my hand as I'm leaving
Hoped my pain would be enough reason
I'll see you on the other side of the Blue Ridge sky
Now I'm going
Hate to tell you goodbye
Love this song. Something haunting about it.
Saw this band last week at Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival. They absolutely blew the roof of the American Airlines Center!
Marcus is the 'REAL DEAL' ... Loads of talent, and a song writing ability that rivals the all time greats. His attitude is 'just right' to carry him to the stars ... and beyond. A major influence in the music world .. and just 24 years old.

Southern rock is in a good place in 2019.
It really is with Blackberry Smoke, Marcus, Allman Betts...there is truly a renaissance.
Simply Awesome
This is my favorite Marcus King tune. His guitar solo sounds like it was lifted from a 70’s Marshall Tucker song and the song topic and lyrics make it sound even more so like a song from them. But it’s an original and I love it. He’s an original.

Hometown Carolina Boy! Keep rockin' it man! You and my kids give me hope for the future of REAL MUSIC!
I just found out that Marcus King is only 23 y/o WOW, the talent!!! They are going to be a powerhouse in Southern Rock
Is there a better young band on the planet? I really doubt it. Wow man next level playing
no there is NOT....lol... For real tho, NO there is NOT...
Not to start a competition, but if you’re looking for more young guys playing some great stuff, I recommend checking out Kingfish Ingram
Garett Mason and Keith Gallett Band
Keith Hallett
I got hip to him through a Rolling Stone interview with Chris Stapleton, who couldn't say enough about him. Incredible artist playing with other incredible artists.
Did you have the pleasure of seeing Marcus open for Chris on his latest tour?
@@Louisiana666 No I did not. It was probably an incredible show.;)
Man! My uncle passed away in 2014 and Marcus makes me think of him. I know that he would be his favorite artist. No question about it!

that slide, damn sounds so nice, chills of Duane
Marcus is at the top of my Bucket List !!
What a jam!!!! Unfrikin real
Oh that Marcus King can sing. Writes great songs. Knows his way around a guitar. This is a very good example of his talent.
Real bands always have an organ!
Making upstate South Carolina proud!!!
His phrasing is so goddam phenomenal!
Killer vocals, killer guitar, killer band, killer song. #KILLER
This band is amazing, everytime they knock it out of the part. So old school yet so fresh!
Park.
young Dudes with great taste in music ???? With great talent ???? Wow ... I'm sold !!!!!!!
The crispness on this is next tech level! But still this Marcus King feller here is something. The band tight and talented
I've seen them all over the years,,but mkb are in a league of there own,, I have no words but praise,,just keep doing what obliviously comes so natural to these guys,,,,,I hope they are around for many years to come,,,
The Jam in the Van production on this track is better than the native album version. FFS!
Talented. Obsessed with his music.
I've seen him live a few times. Incredible talent.
God Bless Marcus King !

Marcus king is one of the best, of the best. 🎸 Love from Norway. ❤️
How does this not have a million plus views by now?
Shhhhhhhhh.....🤫🤫🤫
Mainstream would kill the rawness in his music.
Mainstream killed Dave Mathews as well.
Plus the people at his shows now are 🤢
Going to see Marcus King open up for Chris Stapleton tomorrow night at the original Woodstock site (Bethel Woods). I'm psyched!
Okay Ian .. It's Thursday August 1st 2019 ... How was the concert ??
Saw king and Stapleton in bangor maine. Top notch show. 10/10
