Wasn't expecting to have my face melted but look where we are now. Jesus
My face has waxed me all the way to my toes DAYUMMM KING !!! BAM. drop the mic.
No Don’t lol. Wow
Melted faces worldwide my friend
Yeah. Marcus King is no joke.
Word
Wow
There should honestly be a safety warning before this starts
Headphones beware type stuff 😭😭
This comment. Is. Great.
You know shit's gonna get real when Marcus takes his hat off and leaves it on top the stack
I need an entire album of rock like this! I’m getting a full stack for my living room now…
Just listen to the grand funk album closer to home its from there, or just listen to all their shit it's amazing
Marcus King is one of the best musicians on the planet right now
Criminally underrated too
He is AMAZING!!!
hm no.. just random pentatonic bro
All day long lol...
@@gouedallica utter bullshit. 99% of players out there right now can't play those pentatonic licks with his ferocity.
Whoever mixed this should get an award... WOW!
Not many players cover Grand Funk, man this guy killed it
I'm 54 and have been playing guitar for 40 years. Marcus King gives me hope for the future.
At 63 years old, I thought I'd seen all the greats. I was wrong. I never seen anything like this...damn...
I am in my sixth decade and I just heard this song. His blues got me hooked, but this song blows me away. Rock isn't dead, it's living in The King.
Grand funk railroad
You got that right this son of gun rocks
HOLY SHIT!!!!!!! WHO IS THIS? BLOWIN MY MIND BACK TO 1972
Damn, I’d love to hear more of this from Marcus like a whole album of soul doom.
This that real rock n roll our dad's were talkin about
Holy Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. Amazing.
My face just melted from the retro fuzz tones…
you ever hear something so good it makes you laugh? ... Marcus King ladies n gents. god bless the man.
This kids a musical genius.
This man can literally play any genre. ANY. GENRE.
The Kingdom of Heaven is near boys !!!
That drummer is a monster, and they did such a good job recording him!
Great music Great band Great emotion Great voice keep on rocking
That voice is absolutely insane. If I sounded that good i would never shut up.
Marcus you’re killing it like SRV; my heart is shredded when listening to your solo. What a world treasure.
Partially because of videos like this, I was bummed when I learned Carter Vintage was moving. "The place has too much mojo" I thought. "How can they recreate that?" Now that I've been to the new location, which is just across the street, and I go back to watching these videos, they totally nailed the vibe and the new location is even better. In talking to staff, they much prefer the new location too. They confirmed there will be more videos like this too.
Props to the mixer.. Sounded great
They play so damn tight! The solo is a straight up face melter.
I've never heard any band do a cover of this Grand Funk song. EXCELLENT!
Govt mule has done it live in the past. I think there’s videos here on UA-cam of it
Yeah hence why Marcus played it…. Govt mule ripped this one on deep end album vol1
Marcus will cover about anything. Based on what I’ve heard from him and his band nothings too big.
Several bands have covered this.
@@Mike_Webb78 Who else?
This is why I've went to see this guy at least 15x. One of the best guitarists on the planet. Love you Marcus!
Got to see him in a dive club in Harrisburg, PA just before covid hit. Small venue, got right up front. EXCELLENT show. Hoping I can score another small venue show with Marcus before they lock us down again.
These guys are one of the tightest bands that I have ever heard in my life.
The drummer was lock step all the way with Marcus King's soloing.
The bassist was perfect in sync with the drummer.
Awesome job, young guns!!
Dont know if Marcus is a better singer or a better guitarist…amazing
And both are getting better every day! The sky is the limit with this guy!
@@CrazyHenkie777 Yep.....heading towards being one of the greats IMHO.
totally agree
@@andrewfuller62 He already IS great!
The guy blows you away with everything he does. Wow!
Marcus King in a power trio setting. I DIG IT
That’s some good rock-n-roll.
I hear a little of Chris Cornell in his voice.
I definitely hear what your hearing.
people had gritty voices before Cornell...
@@emeryfry2808: that is a true statement. But at that moment I heard Chris Cornell’s voice. That’s all no more no less.
Also reminds me of the original vocalist on this song, Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad.
@@emeryfry2808 My second grade teacher yelling at us kids. Nothing grittier then that, son.
I ride my bike 10 to 15 miles a day listening to Grand Funk all the time and this is the best cover I've ever heard my entire life it moves me it grooves me
Who said guitar has no legends in the making.... Just listen, ALL heart and soul -- Great job MK doing Grand Funk right brother!!!!!
You’re speaking the truth!
Marcus.....
Rock and Roll Soul!
Marcus King and Justin Johnson are both legends in the making
Does anyone actually say that? There are an insane amount of guitar legends in the making in the more metal side of guitar.
I have listened to this like 50 times in a week. Unreal, Mark, Mel, and Don have to be proud of this.
And he left the price tag on it! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Folk's that is Grand Funk Railroad (who should be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!) Thanks Marcus & boys for taking me back 50 Years! These guys can cover anything...
Amen brother..Mark Farmer is grand funk..the current brewer led funk is a cover band…I’ve heard Marks religious beliefs have kept them out of the hall of shame…and don’t get me going on rappers in a rock hall of fame!
Mountain/ Leslie west
i want this song on SPOTIFY!!!!!!!!
Marcus King IS One of the greatest to ever play. Ever.
Yes. Already.
Thank you Mr. KING 👑
Grand Funk is one of my all time favorite bands.. they were far more influential than they get credit for.. but Marcus and the boys carried that torch like few could..
Kudos brothers.. completely badass
This is the way what real rocknroll should always sound like. This is the way 🦾
This was siiiiiiiiiick. Credit to MK for not stopping and looking at the pricetag and freaking the fuck out. Also, that drummer deserves to be applauded. Wicked good.
I have a friend that played that same model at Carter vintage, there was a 300k price tag on it
He’s so good man.
His drummer is killer good as well as the bass player.
when someone hands you a burst, you play it like you might never see one again. i don't make the rules. just promise me if you ever pick one up you'll play it like it's mean to be played.
And all this sound from just three guys. Amazing.
He's Fricken unbelievable! Please someone finally get him a good Manager and have him play for the masses!
Grand Funk lives!
Correct you are, Bill Stone.
I was 16 when this song came out. MK is a beast!
He’s nailing it this king character :
but when I look at Farner’s rendition nothing can top it
The height of a man singing his soul out and nailing rock guitar. That guitar tone on that album is so fucking gnarly
That was a very good recording. It sounds like some old time Sabbath
Look up him doing War Pigs if you haven’t seen it
GRAND FUNK RED ALBUM 1969 MY FRIEND...
I heard that too, he also did some sabbath in another video
That’s Grand Funk Railroad guy...
Took the words right of my mouth
I remember buying the Grand Funk album Closer to Home in summer 1970. This was the first track. When I heard that guitar it was like Gods finger striking you. Electrical. Mark Farmer, so underrated as a guitar player. He is truly classic rock guitar God. This is a great homage to the great Mark Farmer.
There is still hope in the world.🤘🏽
Pure class. This guy will make history. Sounds brutal
Damn. That melted my paint off the walls. Amazing
Brilliant Marcus King 🤴🏻!!!!
I hope Mark Farner sees this. Damn it sounds good!!!
That was a barn burner boys! The price tags are priceless….
Get that man a vintage LesPaul!
Great cover. Anyone that doesn’t like this has no appreciation for incredible talent!
He’s got like 3
It's carters! I'm sure that les paul is vintage.🤣
Yeah man that’s a ‘60 right there
66 years old and I'd thought great music was a thing of the past. Sure there's great stuff coming out, but years ago when I believe Marcus King was 13 or so. I heard him play then and knew if he stuck with it he'd be able to become one of the greats. Well 20+ years later and he's been involved with every kind of music known to man. And his guitars are like and extension of his arms. There's nothing he can't play and very well done. The songs he's written as a young adult would make you think he was another great reincarnated. The man has what it takes. I guess some of these city kids get home from school and the game boy or TV is the babysitter. He had his Dads old vinyl records and a guitar to keep him company.
I've played solo, I once had an 11 piece band but times I went out in a Trio were the most fun. "3 is a Magic Number". 😎😉😃
Absolutely killer! Enough said!
Let's all just take a minute to appreciate how solid this trio is! That was so damn good! Got chills, enjoyed every second of it. Well played boys, bravo.
I saw them and his brass players. One of the tightest bands I've ever seen!!
I saw GFR do this live and these boys sound damn great! I love it! My left ear is still ringing from that concert
So much talent here
OUT OF THIS WORLD GUYS ....
👍👍🍻....Hell Yeah ! Grand Funk Railroad I'm a Boomer and loved them as a kid. That was hard edged back in the day.... still is. Thanks
Hearing Marcus King play is like having Lenny Kravitz, Ledd Zeppelin, And so many more epic, classic artists from decades ago blended up and its Marcus. He’s his own talent, brilliant, but like channels all the others. It’s crazy good!! I realize he’s been around putting out music for over seven years but he’s new to me. And he’s so young still! Man, he’s about to get bigger than any talent out there!
That same exact thing was running my now, melted mind.
Ooh yes. Please more of this. Please.
It doesn't just melt your face....it simply punches holes right through your whole body. Heart, soul, feel and power. Pure majesty.
Marcus King is SRV 2.0. Such a badass. Went to see Warren Haynes in 2016, MKBand had my dang jaw on the floor for the following 6 yrs and counting. What can't he do?
Great cover of an old Grand Funk tune. Mark Farner would be more than a little impressed as are all of us. Nice work, young man.
may the "funk" be with you...thankyou Mr. King! Peace...
A great old Grand Funk Railroad tune. Marcus took it up a notch!
That double slide coming out of the solo is awesome!
OMG! Marcus never ceases to amaze. Has there ever been a better cover of this song . . . . Not in this lifetime!!!
This is one tight knit band, they friggin jam!!! Are we worthy? HAHAHA yes we are!!
Young Brother has Got the Power!
My favorite Grand Funk Railroad song, and these guys killed it!!! Woooweee!
I remember the original. This is BETTER 💖
LOVE LOVE LOVE Marcus King and Grand Funk! ❤
I really hope Marcus keeps doing the trio. Sounds so much better than the original band. Really glad he keep the drummer and bass player, those guys are great musicians
Wouldnt say better, just different. The original band is still in tact, however he is going to be doing more trio stuff
@@mrmapegothe13thdefinitely agree, the band is basically its own genre of music and the trio is blues / rock.
Trios are always the best. No room for mistakes! Takes great musicians to make it happen.
I have heard this guy play some great stuff live, but this is something else again.
for real tho
I like how the drummer holds the tempo and groove but plays nice and early on the kick and snare al while allowing cymbals to groove somewhere in the middle. Reminds of Gary Clark Jr.'s drummer. Awesome stuff.
I have just one word to describe this guy, impressive
Every time I think I've got your discography down I find something like this and realize there's more to be discovered and amazed by...
Damn, Damn, Double Damn that was good!!!
Came back already for another listen. Just to make sure I heard what I heard. And to calm the beast. Second listen and you get a feel for the anticipation the drummer is putting in, makes this music so exciting.
wow....Mark would be proud. Blasting out the walls at Carter's!
I can't stop watching this!!!! Oh Yeah!!!
Now we know why GRAND FUNK RAILROAD was the biggest loudest rock band in the world in 1970 - 1971 - and 1972! Bands like Humble Pie and Black Sabbath opened for them. Grand Funk even blowing Led Zepplin off the stage at one point and selling out shea stadium in 1971. Great Job Guys
On Time!
Yep! And still isn’t in the RRHOF, which is complete bs! Grand Funk is the greatest rock trio ever!
They were ripped off. Definitely not one the bands living off their fame still. Sold out shea faster than the Beatles! GFR one of my favorite bands!
The future of Rock n Roll 🤘🏻 Thank god someone is keeping it alive
Fantástic
Rock n roolll foreverrrrrrr
Just got my face melted. Just awesome
Ok somebody owes me for some earbubs, mine were literally smokin by the end of the song!! One hundred percent Nasty AsF boys, Bravo and Well Done!!!
Gramd Funk Railroad really had something special when they released this song back in the day. Monster Magnet brought this song back to life when they amped it up years later. Marcus King, You gave it a totally great more SOUTHERN rock vibe. Not too southern but enough to make me want to hear more! Would it not be awesome to hear Marcus King trio play "HIGHWAY SONG" by Blackfoot? You rock man!
That move at 4:53...freaky. That is some sort of groove point i've never heard before. i dig EC, Jimi with Band of Gypsies, Albert Collins, Freddie, Duane, Hound Dog Taylor, Dan Auerbach, .Johnny Winter, .but this dude I've seen live and he is as outstanding as the version of Stevie Ray at the Chicago Blues Festival in 85... This dude is the best guitarist playing today outside maybe Clapton...Very impressive stuff Marcus.
Grand funk railroad baby!.... I love power trios great job guys good band.
Sounds nasty! Love that one, remembers me listening to it with my dad when was a kid. Great job guys!
You are as good as they are.
Is this a Black Sabbath song?
@@davidhinson5467 Grand Funk Railroad
this and Parinoid from the RED live album.......BADASS!
@@davidhinson5467 brother..when I first heard this....I turned my buddy onto this little gem...anyways..exactly who I said they sounded like..BADASS!.somewhere Mark Farner is smiling and saying....there ya go lads!...thats how you do it!
This is so badass. This is the kind of playing that sets me on fire and makes me want to grab my guitar and wail on it. Same stuff that made me start playing to begin with. Blues on fire !! 🔥
GRAND FUNK Lives!!!
Damn the sound is WICKED !
Ahhh, the 'Red' album. What a remarkable song that is. The Beatles brought me to guitar, GFR kept me playing. Way overlooked band. Guys, great job all around.
This song is from the Closer to Home album, it’s actually the first song on that album.
Yeah, Closer to Home. But Hey The Red album is killer too!
Marcus is such a killer player. Always warms my heart when I hear his playing
Grand Funk would be proud !!! Well done !!! Rock On!!!
This young man is truly the real deal 💯
