I totally understand you Matt, when you talked about having the DCT in certain cars over a manual. I’m a die hard manual guy. I have never owned an automatic or dual-clutch car, but I have driven many of them, including DCT’s, PDK’s, DSG’s, and and SSG from a McLaren MP4 12-C. There is a certain level of car when you know a manual transmission would be more work and less fun than having a dual-clutch transmission. I realized this when I drove the McLaren. I had it for 24 hours, and drove it hard. I realized that at that level, having a manual 6spd transmission would have sucked. It would have been more work than fun. So yes, I totally understand what you mean when you mentioned the GT500 and C8 Vette being better with a dual-clutch transmission. What I will never understand is a person who buys these “less than 500hp” grocery getter cars, such as a GTI/R, and get it with a dual clutch. I get the dual clutch shifts faster, but these types of cars do not need dual clutched transmissions. You can push them very very hard, and still be completely in control, with a manual. Those cars are not fast enough to “need” a dual clutch.
Could not have said it better myself. I'm also 100% #savethemanuals but there is a line where the car is just too fast, too capable, and too powerful for a manual. For me, that line is where the interruption of the driveline for the time needed to make the shift would upset the car too much given it's limit capability and power. Supercars are there obviously, and apparently so are cars like this and the ZR1 Corvette (although the auto is a slushbox, so 👎 to that). I do think the new stingray should have a manual but that was more of a production numbers/business case thing, which is too bad. Being such a savethemauals guy, this video made me want to immediately look up GT350 prices. Amazing car though!
@@Neil__Craig it sounds like you haven't had the proper teaching/learning environment, which is too bad. That phase your describing is like giving up on a musical instrument because it doesn't sound good after the first couple lessons. Of course it doesn't, but it will with more time. I'm not saying this to force you to drive stick or shame you for not, but if you really love sports cars and driving than I do think you are leaving a lot of experience on the table by swearing off manuals before you've really had that ah-ha moment with them. Find a really patient teacher and stick to the empty parking lot for a while. Only venture out of that closed environment once you're totally comfortable with starting out from a stop in 1st - that's the hardest part. Once you're no longer anxious about that, you can start to build your confidence and have fun with it. Then, when you are ready to dance on the pedals on a twisty road, you'll understand what we are all so crazy about. Or maybe you won't, but at least you'll have a new skill and can speak from a more experienced place when talking about it. Side note, if you really are stuck in city bumper to bumper traffic 99% of the time, then I get it. I would probably have to have an auto daily and a manual fun car in that case, but again, it's a shame to swear it off until you've had the proper experience. 😁

@@Neil__Craig that's cool. I come at manual transmission evangelism from the prospective of pure driving experience. My favorite thing is a car with good handling, just enough power, a manual transmission and a curvy road with no traffic (or off roading but that's a whole other thing). In that situation, it's all about the visceral experience. I wouldn't go so far as to say the car is just a tool for the job, but it's like Burt Monroe said, the reward is in the doing of it. I also put it this way: when driving for the fun of it, the fun of it is all that matters. This is the context that I feel like any car guy who is inclined to that sort of driving owes it to themselves to at least learn manual to the point of seeing what all the fuss is about. But that is not to say that that's the only kind of car guy there is or should be. I totally see how an auto is the better tool for the job your describing.

Great review. I ve had 7 or 8 mustangs so far in this life. I just got a 2021 gt500. Waited 2 yrs for it. Have had a 2012 vert and 2013 coupe both gt500s. Still have the 13. This new 21 gt500 is a fantastic car. Nothing comes close to its overall performance. The dual clutch is an awesome piece of equipment. Love it. Keep up the good work.
This was a fantastic review. And Matt is absolutely right about a certain amount of horsepower becoming ‘too much’ for a manual transmission. Plus there’s no cooler sound than a crisp Dual-Clutch shift.
Definitely awesome, especially in the tunnel. It's definitely $$$ though. I have a S550 already so the only difference for me would be the drivetrain, and that's not enough for me to justify buying it. But IMO even if I didn't have that and you compare it head to head with competitors, this $75k is the equivalant of the C8 configuration that I want which has the 2LT package upgrade, mag ride, and front lift kit. For $75k that's an affordable supercar. For $75k this is just an S550 with a really cool drivetrain.
Some of that dry-zorb soaked with oil would probably be the JAM for starting a campfire lol. Also when Matt says "gotta get up early to be here with me" I couldn't help but think that the sun position looked like about 9am. :eh?:
5:50 I know what you mean but I would say that Mustangs have had "AMG horsepower" since introducing the 10 speed automatic and new 460hp Gen 3 Coyote featuring revised induction, increased compression, 16 fuel injectors. (borrowed a lot of tech from the Boss 302 and GT350) 0-60 is in the 3.9 second range and 12.1@120 in the 1/4 for bone stock.
That and a Mustang GT is a $35,000 dollar working stiff's pony car. Of course it's not going to feel exactly like an AMG would deliver power, but why would you expect that for for the price? What you get for your money is amazing.
That is a gorgeous area to test the capabilities of this car. Big Tujunga Canyon roiad is as awesome as thiis ride. I have a 2016 GT 350 and it is puts a smile on my face whenever I turn it on. Great vehicles to own and drive. Thanks.
Regarding launch control, it may be the same in the GT500 as it is with my PP2 where you have to go and configure the launch RPM. It sounds like it was just set low by default but it can go higher.
I'm fine with skipping manuals on very-high power cars, and I see that tire and suspension technology allows very-high power cars to be safe and fun, but the problem with these 700+ HP cars is the roads haven't changed and the speed limits haven't changed...
Exactly. They have no place in the real world. Not even Matt can drive this car fast on this tricky road. It's a pig that ppl buy for hp bragging rights. Hoo-hah.
Back in 1984 I was camping and a car went by my tent that sounded better than most cars. I opened the tent and a park ranger was in a 5.0 LX Coupe so I asked him about it and he bragged how awesome it was. I went to Ford in 1985 and special ordered (The 5.0 LX wasn't an easy option until 1986) a new '85 LX 5.0 Coupe police special with a 5spd and all the goodies and ran a whopping 14.3@97mph and was blown away. Ford was back baby! Fast forward to many Mustang's later and in 2018 I buy a Crimson '18 GT with the A10 and it runs an 11.7@121 and it's a completely different animal than any before it. Now the GT500 comes out and it too is a completely different animal and it's out of my reach. Ford has come a long way, the big 3 has come a long way, we are spoiled by how awesome these Pony/Muscle/Sports cars are today. I hope to be able to buy the GT500 some day, thanks for the great review!!
I have an AMG GTS, and trust me, no. No. It comes as close as a Mustang can, I respect it and I totally understand the comparison. but it’s a different league in more ways than I am willing to list. I respect this Ford immensely, they are getting much better in this sector. But AMG..--Mustang? That’s like Audemars Piguet being put up against, pfft, Citizen...? Maybe they can both give you the time, but...
10 years ago when I was young and dumb I went out and ordered a silver stripe delete 2011 GT500 performance pack largely based on your review and opinion.
I love the look of the car. However, I am a purist (read: dinosaur). I still want the stick option. I still associate "sport" with stick. I love my 2001 Z06 with 6 speed.
I still would prefer a GT350R though I think I’d immediately remove the original wheels and tires because Minnesota has potholes, those tires don’t last long and I hate looking at black wheels.
Despite its great looks, I was certain the GT500 would be overkill when it was announced. Oh, how it's dynamically proven me wrong. I'd still take a GT350R over it, but without being too similar to it this is another engineering masterpiece from Ford. Big respect.
Putting a manual in this would be like putting one in a gt2rs. After 500-600hp you really need to focus on your inputs when driving fast and a manual car is not ideal at that point. It belongs in the gt350/gt350r. I'm glad Ford did things the way they did with this car!
@Buckets I can drive just fine. I'm assuming you've never had the opportunity to drive anything with a DCT, so I won't bother to argue with you about it.
To enable launch control you have to pull back and hold both shifter paddles then put gas pedal to floor and let off foot brake. when ready to launch just let go of both shifter paddles.
For launch control you have to go into the track apps and activate it, and select the RPM you want it to go to. As I recall you only have to do this once.
Saw my first one yesterday on a trailer... Orange, but still rad! Ps. Waking up early is tits! It’s amazing what you can get done before your family gets up when you wake at 4am every day.
My old E92 M3 gave me mixed feelings on DCT transmissions. But this sounds so awesome, looks like Ford has come a long way. This is definitely a car to keep on the radar, good vid 💯
to think they told us it was DCT only to deliver a more track focused experience and faster shifting, and here it was just to make room for the cup holders the whole time
Nice review. That thing is absolutely nuts, I don't know if I would even want one over the GT350 if had the choice. I think what you are saying about Ford changing the power train game for muscles cars started with the Chevy changing the game for what a muscle car is in terms of a straight line machine that also handles like a German sports car. Really awesome to see from both manufacturers.
Couldn't be helped , now it dosen't over heat and the dct is heavy asf I have one and u can't feel it. I do want to try and.get a cftp because now because of covin-19 there not making as many as they where idk how many just not as many.
It always amazes me how eloquent you are while ripping high hp vehicles through the canyons. Great review as always. This GT500 is really an incredible machine, Ford really knocked it out of the park with this one.

My god the sound. I'm prepared to buy it just for the sound, then move to a tunnel.
Lol!!!
I was able to attend the GT500 Track Tour. It was amazing on the track especially when I went for a few laps with one of the Ford Pro drivers after I did my laps. Amazing car!!
Absolutely great exhaust sound.
You encountered the 1 sec delay from a start, that is designed on this car.
Happy to see Matt that surprised and having fun in this thing. Genuinely getting hit hard in the feels from that driving/sound/speed/looks
God damn, I'd drive it for the rest of my life. And I'd die with a smile on my face!
Anyone else notice the huge oil puddle left behind after he swept up the dri zorb ? Lmao
😮
Yeah, some one’s gonna break their neck😿
I miss you bro, we need more videos like the old days...
First TST morning dump in a while. I've missed this.
Jared Carstens he just did two other reviews in the past week
I literally have no idea what you’re talking about. How have you missed me? I’ve put out six new car review videos in the last four weeks.
@@TheSmokingTire LMAO... just a friendly guilt trip, miss the hooptie reviews... but keep up the good work!
I guess he misses the videos where you used to drive subscribers’ cars.
I now wanna see Chris Harris in one of these. That noise from the V8 though :O omg
okay that tunnel sound clip was insane.... i have goose bumps
8:59 broke the sound barrier on the way out of the tunnel lol
The sound in the tunnel sent a chill down my spine - even listening through ear buds...
Man the new GT500 is a beast!
I'm falling in love with it now!
Long time no see, Good to see you on the road again. This Shelby Mustang is now my most favorite car of 2020 - thanks to THIS video :) 🚗🏎🚘♥♦♠♣
I have owned several stick shift sports cars , but I'm definitely interested in the DCT transmission . Especially for city driving in traffic. I might be in the minority , but I wish it came in the GT350.
“echoing off the canyon walls” if only i had the money, that would be the only line i’d need to hear
That predator engine is an automotive masterpiece
Thanks Matt , love these canyon run videos , best way to highlight these cool cars , much better than a drag strip, i still love the gt350r , if i could i'd love to get that bullitt model.greetings from south africa.
Although I love the competitiveness of the last 60 years, GM teaming up w/ Ford for the 10speed, TVS, etc ....it's just somethin special
LUND and Palm Beach Dyno are getting huge gains with these, doing pulley, ported blower and tuning.. That DCT is a game changer I love a MANUAL though a good one not one that locks you outta gear through the turns.. great content
I've been waiting for this one!!
I work at a heavy equipment shop - can confirm dry-sorb (sp?) is the shit - it's what we use
Usually not a big Fan of American muscle cars but man does this thing deliver! It really is a game changer!
I'm a simple man. I see Matt Farah reviewing a Shelby Mustang. I click.
And you must be a dumb man too
I happen to love these wheels !! I’m a GT500 owner and I’m completely satisfied with the wheels!
This was a fantastic review. And Matt is absolutely right about a certain amount of horsepower becoming ‘too much’ for a manual transmission. Plus there’s no cooler sound than a crisp Dual-Clutch shift.
Listening to this with headphones on sounds GLORIOUS !!!!!!
Thank you for this review I want one even more now. 👍👍🇺🇸
:eh?:
He gets up early to do his hair. Cant rush beauty.
I liked that you slowed down and moved over for the biker, Matt. Very classy. Hoon when you can, but not being a douch. Well done.
This thing out AMG’d AMG
No
Okay calm down
Amg can't hang anymore with this. There using 4 cyl turbos for 2021c63..please.this is a monster all the way around.
Twobarpsi amg is starting to go 4 cylinder in the c63 lol. Amg is dead
"It's when your brain cells are gone. That's what this car does." :D Priceless!!!
You have AWSOME cameras. Beautiful in 4K
Saw one in person, I chased him down n he was nice enough to rev the shit outta of it . They sound great In person
What the hell do you drive to catch up to this 😂😂🤔
@@shmoofgang Honda civic with cold air intake. works everytime
Nate Haji lmao he was just cruising good thing he didn’t try and run I would’ve been fucked
allan I have a stock 2012 civic Si 😂
Seeing this car reminds me of the 2010 bullrun videos I saw on this channel. Matt must be feeling nostalgic. lol
I love the look of the car. However, I am a purist (read: dinosaur). I still want the stick option. I still associate "sport" with stick. I love my 2001 Z06 with 6 speed.
Actually it is a stick only hidden under the dash
and with dual clutch not only one
Sticks are being phased out
Pagani, Koenigsegg, Bugatti, and others think you're an idiot, and I'd have to agree
thats just stupid thinking
I still would prefer a GT350R though I think I’d immediately remove the original wheels and tires because Minnesota has potholes, those tires don’t last long and I hate looking at black wheels.
Despite its great looks, I was certain the GT500 would be overkill when it was announced. Oh, how it's dynamically proven me wrong. I'd still take a GT350R over it, but without being too similar to it this is another engineering masterpiece from Ford. Big respect.
Matt I think you should probably grab a GT500 you sound tickled about the power and the exhaust sound is amazing.
Putting a manual in this would be like putting one in a gt2rs. After 500-600hp you really need to focus on your inputs when driving fast and a manual car is not ideal at that point. It belongs in the gt350/gt350r. I'm glad Ford did things the way they did with this car!
Buckets whatever dude.
@Buckets Maybe if you're a simpleton =)
@Buckets I can drive just fine. I'm assuming you've never had the opportunity to drive anything with a DCT, so I won't bother to argue with you about it.
This car amazes me every time I see it driven. Definitely a dream car for me.
Hey Matt, can dri-zorb be used as bollocks powder as well?
I use it to get rid of swamp ass
To enable launch control you have to pull back and hold both shifter paddles then put gas pedal to floor and let off foot brake. when ready to launch just let go of both shifter paddles.
350R and this are Dream Cars
Engine is amazing
But this gearbox for a muscle car is something else man !
Forget anything Italian, this is my new dream car 😍
For launch control you have to go into the track apps and activate it, and select the RPM you want it to go to. As I recall you only have to do this once.
The launch RPM was probably set to the minimum. I think you change that in one of the many "apps"
Saw my first one yesterday on a trailer... Orange, but still rad!
Ps. Waking up early is tits! It’s amazing what you can get done before your family gets up when you wake at 4am every day.
The Brap is strong! GT500
My old E92 M3 gave me mixed feelings on DCT transmissions. But this sounds so awesome, looks like Ford has come a long way. This is definitely a car to keep on the radar, good vid 💯
I wouldn’t even call it a muscle car. More like a muscle sport car.
good point
It's almost heretical to say, but the straight line muscle game belongs to Tesla now.
@@BuffMyRadius Dude you gotta be stupid.
1 Not a muscle car
2 Not a drag car
3 The demon beats its quarter mile time by 1.27 seconds.
It's a pony car
@@yusufgta4341 Right, thank you, I forgot the term
to think they told us it was DCT only to deliver a more track focused experience and faster shifting, and here it was just to make room for the cup holders the whole time
If the C8 didn't exist I'd have one of these in my garage right now but hopefully the soon to be announced C8 Z06 vette will be a better car
I totally agree 100%
it better be but they'll definitely make you pay for it.
@@burgerbandit3646 Initially, yes, but GM's MO after the hype is done is to whore them out at an average of 10% off MSRP.
5:20 on my surround sound got damn! 😍
I’m not big on mustangs, but this is just sick. That dct is a game changer.
I see you’re taking Doug’s advice on titles!!
The fact that you stop and address the Evo is a testament to how much that car actually means in the automotive world lol.
Hearing a Ford V8 shift that quick a actually a little strange at first.
Dude I didn't hear a word you said. I was mesmerized by that engine sound.
13:56 mom’s spaghetti
Coming back to this review, amazing critique and review. Lots of detail on this one.
the more shocking thing is the MSRP followed by the greedy Ford dealers ADMs on this car....SAD
Nice Batman Matt. I picked one up myself. Love it.
4260lbs if memory serves. It's almost as heavy as SL AMG's
It's as heavy as a Challenger Scatpack.
Couldn't be helped , now it dosen't over heat and the dct is heavy asf I have one and u can't feel it. I do want to try and.get a cftp because now because of covin-19 there not making as many as they where idk how many just not as many.
Weight is 3926. My Ford MSO had 4045 on it, my car is a non track pack GT500 ua-cam.com/video/z-60gcPgHEw/v-deo.html

It always amazes me how eloquent you are while ripping high hp vehicles through the canyons. Great review as always. This GT500 is really an incredible machine, Ford really knocked it out of the park with this one.
Eloquent? No
