Review: 2020 Shelby GT500 - 760 HP isn't the only Crazy Part!

- Опубліковано 28 жов 2019
- I review the much-anticipated 2020 Shelby GT500! As crazy as 760 horsepower is, I was also floored by the massive brakes and the immediate shifts from the brand new Tremec dual clutch transmission. But, it wasn't perfect, and this one around $82,000 isn't cheap, but it's a lot of car for the money. What would you rather have, this or the Hellcat Redeye, Camaro ZL1, or the 2020 Corvette? Thanks to Ford for the opportunity to drive this very special Mustang!

Even if you weren't great at reviews, your enthusiasm would still get a lot of subscribers. Great job and a great car.
Don't forget 21:27 Shmee150. lol
When is your trademark "O" face... 😉
Thanks
Matt Maran Motoring thank you for the video and the time stamps
Actually clicked on your review before Jay Leno’s just to hear that giggle
Haha thank you!
LOL I did the same thing. Great review Matt. Jay had a GT500 blacked out with the Track Pack. Glad Matt was able to drive one on the track as well.
Same here!
Yep saw the thumbnail and came right on in to check the giggle factor lol. Good review as usual.
I watch Engineering Explained to listen to Jason nerd out.
I watch Redline Reviews for Sofyan's sass.
I watch Matt Maran for the sheer joy he gets from flooring it. 🤣
I love how you just went straight to sending it after giving us a run down of the interior 😂
Jonathan Losito yeah!
Watched ur review first due to your enthusiasm about Mustangs!! Legend
Thank you!
9:42 he got so excited he stopped talking English lmfaoooo
Time to trade the Bullitt Matt
I actually think the Bullit looks better, especially in the color Matt selected. If I was making the purchase though, I would buy the base Shelby GT350. It is lighter and altogether more engaging with that tremec 6 spd manual. That flat plane crank V8 has an intoxicating sound also.
WB Wayne matts car looks better and is lighter by a lot. This is double the price after haggling and tax figured.
maybe he can whine and have another fundraiser to get money for the down payment. Actually he should spend some money on seeing a dentist.
WB Wayne I owned a 2018 GT350R & honestly I disliked it. Just a FYI you will not win any races in a GT350.
I’m a lover for any performance vehicle that car companies provide for us to drive. 4 banger, 6cyl, 8cyl, etc.. there’s always something that fits your needs when it’s just you and your car. My current vehicle is a manual, but give props to this DCT and technology. Never have and probably never will get a chance to drive this gt500, but the reactions from these people driving this monster seem to smile
Its long overdue to comment now, yet you are absolutely right. Theres a car that can fit everyones budget and needs for the most part. U can hav a blast in a 4cyl Eco, & the DCT. We are lucky to be alive in a unique era of production vehicles.
This is the preview of The Joker 2..9:35
LMAO
9:38 to see a kid in a candy store (after a well placed ad you shouldnt skip) 😉
Congrats on the almost 400k matt! You deserve more. You been on the grind longer than most as well.
Thanks man! Yeah the growth is slower than others for sure, but I’m just grateful it’s still growing.
He lost a lot of subscribers a few years ago when he begged for money to help pay his bills. Complained because he couldn't pay his bills working two days a week.
@@fremontwright7623 really?
@@blackice7408 YEAH, LOOK AT HIS OLD VIDEOS. DUDE WAS ALMOST CRYING. HE BEGGED PEOPLE TO HELP HIM BUY A NEW CAR. TRIED TO SAY THATS WHAT EVERYONE WANTED. HE IS FAKE NEWS
I don’t normally comment but I knew you would be the best choice to watch the first reviews of the GT500. I’ve been a longtime subscriber and your reactions never get old. I’m glad to see you’re gaining subs and 400k is right there. I think you need to get one of these. Just say it’s for the wife since it’s an auto. Haha.
Love your enthusiasm! AWESOME REVIEW THANKS!
Nice review! Your reaction says it all! Thanks for taking us on a drive with the new Shelby!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome review. Great details, and great enthusiasm all the way through 👍
Great video Matt! Loved seeing SHMEE there too for a split second. Wish the weight was a little lower, but a super sweet ride regardless! Great job keeping it up!
This car will be insane when people start tuning it and throw some e85 at it
Thank you for sharing! I love love the sound of this mean machine GT500! 🤘🏾✨
Awesome review Matt! Love it! Dream car goals!
2020. Welcome to the party, Ford. 5 years late is better than never.
OFFRD better late than never but 2020 Vette is better and cost is much lesser lol
@@aaronp9835 How is it better? They have a self proclaimed time of 11.1 in the quarter. The GT500 already best that. Not to mention the GT500 was never turned off and still accomplished the numbers maintaining horsepower.
This was a good reaction but no reaction will ever beat your gt350 pull reaction
Maybe the ZL1 reaction
GT350 may be down in power, but revving a n/a engine that’s designed to rev over 8000 rpm is hands down the best...
Great video. Wow 😮 what a totally awesome and stunning car. Definitely looks and sounds the part. Really enjoyed your reactions to the acceleration 😁. 😉👌🏻
Only appropriate that the first review I watch on the new GT500 is done by the worlds biggest mustang fan.
Smiles per galon? Awesome review! Man i can tell you were enjoying that car.
awesome review as always matt love all your videos! :)
Awesome man! Been waiting on this video 😎 wish I could afford one of these
I want one of these soooo bad!! More than a hellcat or ZL1! Great review, Matt!
Thank you Ford for keep making this beast!
4:45 I love the detail of the Shelby emblem on the car icon
Great review as always Matt! I’m getting a c8 to review soon wish I could also get my hands on one of these but they are more exclusive.
Excellent review. Very well done. You work hard on these reviews and it shows.
Thank you!
Great video Matt
My GSD puppy gave your video the cutest head tilts. 🐶
Great ob Matt, I am pretty jealous! Also, sweet Pumas!
The front head on view looks soooo good 1:03
WE LOVEEE THE REACTION AND EVEN MATT ACKNOWLEDGES IT HAHA.!!
Never clicked on a video faster
I can tell you enjoyed your time driving the Shelby GT500. By the way. I believe Ford announced the paddle shifters are made of magnesium. As always. Thanks for your detailed review
Great detailed review Matt, love that orange color. It’s certainly a beast not sure it’s worth the premium over a 350 though.
Such a beautiful car.
Best reaction still with the ol gt350.
Thank god someone finally had a review of one that’s not grabber lime or a track pack
It's nice to see a GT500 review.
Gotta love that giggle 👍😁👍
Great Review that’s very nice
Wow that sounds great!
I can’t believe how well the GT500 turned out. I want one so bad now! 😃😄🙏
seeing this beauty and having the pure michigan license plate just brings a smile to this michigan boys face.
Great review matt!! This thing looks like a beast hopefully this will make the older gt500 prices go down!:)
The last GT500 model year was 2014...that's 5+ years ago....prices have been reasonable on these older model, except the super snake which has retained some really good values lately..
@@Bruce.-Wayne ya except 2013-2014 gt500's are still demanding over 40k
@@ordinarygamer1353 .....I've seen some in the low 40's but mileage usually pretty freaking high
@@Bruce.-Wayne ya I'd be happy honestly with 2012 and older model years. You can find those for low 30's with pretty low mileage (like 30k miles- that's low to me lol). Which would be a pretty good deal considering the insane performance you get, and the heritage !!
Finally, the GT500 review I've been looking forward to, a fantastic look at it Matt!
Thank you!!
@@MattMaranMotoring Do you like the gt350R more than 500??
@@grimes9339 I like them both equally, they're so different that they are each fantastic for their intended purposes.
@@MattMaranMotoring Oh, I see 😄 I was curious because you didn't seem too excited for the 500 as you did with the gt350. I also noticed the sound was more pronounced on the gt350 too
To remedy your desire for hearing the blower, just add a CAI or intake system when they're available. I'm sure that'll open up the air a bit to allow the whine we're accustomed too with a Roots style supercharger.
How would you compare the Tremac dual clutch 7-speed transmission with the ZF 8 speed auto?
His reaction to driving that car was priceless Ford should make a commercial on that. Lol
Good review
A few people have complained about the no supercharger whine, personally I'm glad they suppressed that sound as I prefer how a naturally aspirated engine sounds myself. But supercharger performance with naturally aspirated sound? Sign me up Ford!
The big question though: is it safe for the Cars and Coffees?
Great vid. It seems like the launch control is kind of screwing up the start in the quarter. Ive seen it on other vids. Maybe its set too low. Just seems to die. Cant wait to see it with Drags and some other kind of launch.
I’m still shocked they didn’t pull slotted rotors or a intake up front for air to go in and compared then heat coming out
Im a chevy guy and I must say, this car kills. Sounds amazing.
Matt, how would you compare the power and acceleration feel to the Roush Stage 3 and the Whipple Bullitt you drove?
Did you guys go out to Mt Charleston? Im a County Building Inspector for Nevada and I saw a whole group of Shelbys last Thursday and Im wondering that was you guys haha. I go up there every week for new building projects.
From everything that I hear this is a great daily driver as well as being a good track car and a good drag car.
Says the transmission isn't always searching for gears, but at 15:50 there seems to be a lot of gear searching.
He was on the road to mount Charleston, near Las Vegas, which is going up a mountain from the desert valley below, climbing from 2000 ft elevation to above 7000 ft in like a 15 mile stretch. Most vehicles will be searching for gears in that environment.
Having the dual cutch is great, but needs a manual option.
I mean sure, but there's already a manual only mustang. That's like saying that needs an auto option.
@@MiketheNerdRanger why cant both have both. It's stupid not too.
Chad Mcoscar because no ones buys them. They’re not gonna build them for no one to buy them.
@@alecw7063 untrue. Go on cars.com, autotrader, craigslist and I can tell you for a fact from the years off 2011 to 2014, 80% of the gt500s you will see are manual.
Chad Mcoscar this new dual clutch is so much better anyways
When did they get rid of the oil temp? My Ecoboost has it.
I have a C8 on order and just ordered one of these velocity blue should be in sometime in Spring ...
Nice. Looks like your gonna have a nice garage soon.
This is for J-Lino, have you ever done anything on TUKER? A very fine car.
Have to maintain that S550 transmission clunk! I noticed on my MT-82 that switching the drive modes before you going tends to keep the clunks away. Or if it clunks swap modes and it goes away. Thanks Ford for keeping us worried something maybe wrong.
Doug Joseph the “clunk” is normal on a DCT.
@@LozanoMotoRacing I didn't know that. I have it as well on my 17 GT with the MT-82 transmission
Going to be an awesome car. I almost got one (had a deposit) but decided I need to save the money for my old FoxBodys instead.
Best color for this black & red well for me
Great review Matt! Amazing engine, exterior looks great but it’s a shame Ford didn’t update the interior which was outdated 5 years ago!
What's outdated? The Challenger and Camaro have very comparable interiors.
The interior is absolutely not outdated. It was leaps and bounds ahead of the 2014 mustang and still looks great by today's standards
Matt Maran Motoring all I’m saying is when you spend $80-90k you should get a better interior, see new C8 corvette for example. Just my opinion, I know plenty of people who own mustangs and love the interior.
@@pistolpete6321 I would hope the c8 corvette would have a bit nicer interior, it just got a complete redesign. This chassis is going on it's fifth year. Also, if you get the soft touch interior package, it ditches most of the cheap plastic.
dark chrome like buttons are same on the 350. Only thing missing obviously is the remote start button
Jay Lenno loves the 2020 GT500
Did anyone else see in the gauge cluster on the left on the rev counter when you start up the car there is the back of a little mustang with the shelby badge that's attention to detail
Man that's a good lookin v-hicle!
Matt- you obviously had to finally launch at low 1,400 rpm to prevent wheelspin from a "not very well prepared" drag strip (not grippy enough). Also the track is 2,000 feet up, so less available HP. On a sticky track with a higher rev launch, at sea level and no head wind, it will be in the high 10 sec range.
Almost @ 400k subs!
Curious what the deal was with the crackles and pops. Jay Leno's GT500 was crackling like crazy. He had the track pack, not sure if something is different about the exhaust, but there's clearly some difference which I find interesting..
Definitely an awesome car, but I agree that missing the supercharger whine is a real bummer, that was always a key element of big SC hitters like the hellcat and the Cobra.
Curious how this will do against the ZL1 1LE at the track and also curious about how it'll do against the hellcat redeye at the strip. Will be interesting, what a time to be alive!
Did they change the top speed from 220 to 180MPH? Comparing the 2020 to the 2022 Shelby GT500
Limited production vehicles and allocations make it hard for the average person to get one, as well as a lot with premiums above MSRP, correct?
Beautiful car
There seems to be a constant loud background droning noise while you’re driving?
does the transmission feel like the DCT in the C8?
Its here!!!
I like the giggling reaction because it’s not fake.
Was this in Las Vegas? Looks like u were at the LV motor speedway and then that open road looks like your going toward mountain charleston
Yep!
The newest Iphone for Mustang gurus!!!
I personally don’t mind not having supercharger whine. Gives me the impression that the engine is all motor instead of being forced induction.
What you’re describing sounds like the drive shaft is slightly out of balance or a U joint is going bad. I’d say it’s a U joint due to testers doing burnouts.
....almost 400k subs, Matt. Compilation coming soon?
Yep, as soon as I cross 400k!
Beast Mode
How the HELL did your camera man beside you stay quiet while you were completely losing it Matt? Is he a mute? 🤣 Sorry mate I couldn't keep quiet!!!! Great job C-man 🎥 😎👍🏻 Here in Oz we can't get the GT350R or 500R in RHD, so Ford Australia in conjunction with Herrod Performance have just released an "R-spec" model. Check it out Matt!!! Great review & yes mate I'm still loving my Bullitt too👍🏻
Great review as always!!
Seeing I’m old and shit. I still don’t care for active this or that or you flip a switch to make it loud, ride stiffer, etc.
But times change and people for some reason or another like the video game set ups.
Awesome car though love the sound too but I would want to hear the supercharger myself.
Oh hey it’s in Vegas
Does it have two calipers on the rear??
Did you take this up Mt. Charleston?
Does the gt500 suffer from the same oil consumption as the gt350?
I can only wonder if Ford will build a mid-engine Mustang to compete with the C8 but when the Z06 is released it will be game over for the GT500, a car that goes fast in a straight line is great but a car that goes fast in a straight line and carves corners like a steak knife will dominate the market
No, since the Camaro is gone I hope Ford refocuses on the BMW M series remember back in 2012 they built a Mustang GT that gave the M3 a run for its money a tire is what separated them both the finish line
The thing runs just under 2/10ths of a second slower around Laguna Seca than a a GT3RS. A very trackable car at 1/3 the price.
What GT500 options would you get assuming not tracking but just using as daily driver? Base with electronics package skipping track and handling option? Do you think it’s better then the Bullitt? (I know your bias!😊👍🏻)
Yeah, I'd get a base model with electronics. If you want more power than the Bullitt it's awesome, and as long as you don't mind the lack of a manual, it's a blast.
Matt Maran Motoring - Thanks and have a happy Labor Day weekend!
I have an ‘01 Cobra.. I can’t even imagine how this thing would feel to drive compared to mine!
jtkent28 that 325hp 01 cobra is gonna feel like a toy trust me
