It's not nerdy, it helps out lot. Have you ever color calibrated a monitor? Since you say it's a must have, I am surprised you don't know that professional monitors like Eizo have had these built-in for a long time. It is as nerdy as having a color and nits correct monitor to know how the absolut values looks like.

If ever these would become mainstream sometime, the main benefit of 8k display is that 4k, 1440p, 1080p and 720p content would have perfect pixel scaling, not just that you can display 8k content.

it would be sick to have the dual mode type tech, where you could like increase HZ when using 4K/1440p/1080p without any compromise in scaling/interpolation. so for example: 8k60hz, 4k240hz, 1440p480hz, 1080p960hz(? lol maybe) all in one crisp monitor. since in theory they all use a very similar amount of bandwidth. although personally I won't use any monitor with

And the beautiful part is that 16:10 Aspect Ratio monitors work the same and even better, they can integer scale all those mainstream resolutions in 16:10 and 16:9 format.
8K 16:10 at 7680x4800 is going to be an insane monitor resolution if paired with properly engineered electronics to handle the integer scaled lower resolutions at the highest Hz that the displays' connector will allow.

These were the same lazy arguments that audiophile's used to back up their arguments when it came to sound in home theatres . When in reality if you had a home theatre sound exactly at the same disables as an actual movie cinematic experience in a much smaller room you'd ether give yourself and your family a heart attack or a stroke from what your human ears are not being able to handle . Same when it comes to pixel density. So unless we're getting bionic eyes that can see beyond human sight in the not to distant future then it's pretty much overkill no matter how videophiles try to desperately dress it up!

Try cramming 50MP into a 4K display and think it would look good. It doesn’t. 8MP out of 50 is atrocious. Especially when trying to edit client work. I have to zoom in 200 percent and move the image around to check sharpness which when editing batches of 500+ photos gets tiresome.

I have a 4K Dell monitor. At 32" diagonal, the pixel density comes out to ~144-146 pixels per inch (PPI)-which means, with an 8K display you get around twice that, i.e. ~288-292 PPI (I'm listing it as a range because if you compare physical measurements to X/Y resolution, you get slightly different values for horizontal and vertical densities).

So I should get the professional version of the monitor rather than the gaming version? Will it still recognize gaming content or devices? 🤔🤔🤔🤔

See, there's a reason why 8K hasn't become as affordable as some people would've liked is because 8K is incredibly bandwidth hungry and takes a lot of data to actually consume. We won't see 8K streaming services until around 2030 at best. I think at this point we'd be better off improving the brightness/color accuracy on OLEDs before jumping off 4K 120hz into 8K 120hz.
