Now the only way I can see to stop that is to have to go to each item in the iPhone notifications and turn off the option, "Show on Mac", one by one. Do you know of a way to turn off all notifications at once that mirror to the Mac from the iPhone? Seems like that should be an option if it's not there already. Thanks.

You may have saved me much time. I've been fighting with Keyboard Maestro to develop a script to combine PDF's and move the resultant file. With the shortcut for context menu it may work, as I have not been that successful with right clicking for quick actions -> create PDF - I will play later. Separately, and unfortunately, reminders on the MAC will not allow me to use the iPhone camera to attach a picture. Of course using reminders on the iPhone will support use of the iPhone camera to attach photos.
It absolutely worked with Keyboard Maestro as this has been a challenge for me for months. No matter what I tried it was fragile. This works quite well. 15 down arrows, one right arrow followed by a space with judicious pauses solved my problem ! - it was kismet that I read your today's tips as I was battling Keyboard Maestro, a most wonderful tool that could be used to remove trial license files daily so that some trials can go on forever. Separate topic, but I just had to throw it out there :) Of course one must first find the location of the license file :))
Another brilliantly useful update, thanks! I don’t suppose you know if it’s possible to create a shortcut to change the scroll direction of trackpad/mouse? (have to keep changing to natural every time I reconnect the mouse on desktop 😏)

Once again thanks for your tutorial's.
Assuming you are adept at creating Shortcuts: Basically, use Get Selected Files in Finder. Then use Get Details of Files to get the Name, and then get the File Path. Then use URL Encode to encode the File Path. Then use Add To Reminders to add a new reminder with the Name, and in the “show more” section use file://[URL Encoded Text] as the note. If you can't figure that out, you can always just do this by dragging
No. If your state allows it, you can add your license to the wallet app. Still more states have their own special apps for IDs and licenses (like mine, Colorado). Those would not only give you a digital copy, but they could be used officially in place of your license. I don't think there is a US digital passport yet. But if you just want a copy for unofficial use, then I'd just store those as files in the Finder.
Also, I had an external USB stick attached. When I went to eject it in Finder, I right clicked also noted another option.....'Erase Disk' with four format options! I didn't even have to open disk utility. I may be wrong, but I don't remember it being there before.

That's always true. But what "Keep File Downloaded" means is that the file is guaranteed to be cached locally so you know you'll have it when you are offline.
It's a shame you can't set the default behaviour of the Safari Video Viewer to open in Picture in Picture mode, which in general I find to be the more useful feature. I don't think you can create a shortcut either. Hopefully they alter this in a future update or at least add it as an option to the drop-down menu.
I noticed that nobody mentions and more importantly do not complain about the fact that with Sequoia iphone mirroring you can not control the iphone camera!
Passwords: sadly the CLI security command that allows to safely retrieve access tokens and passwords still cannot obtain them from the icloud keychain, but only from the local keychain. So if you're writing scripts, but want to run them on multiple macs, you have to configure all keychain items again and again :-(
Can someone please please please show me how to make a Keyboard shortcut to change languages. I've always used 'Command and Space' to switch between languages and I really want to stick to that but I don't seem to be able to change this in Sequoia...
You shouldn't use Command+Space for that. It is very universally used for Spotlight. Meanwhile, Control+Space is the standard keyboard shortcut combination for switching keyboard input, which I assume is what you are asking about. Stick with that. You can find it in System Settings, Keyboard, Keyboard Shortcuts, Input Sources.
The application sees and consumes the keystrokes first. Only if this is not the case the keystrokes are sent to the next level outside the application, e.g. the desktop. Common behaviour in GUIs.

Is that what is happening? Or is it more the case of users requesting these features and Apple fulfilling the requests that make the most sense? Or should Apple not give users what they want because some other OS has a similar feature?
A lot of these enhancements were already in windows computers. Apple's only appeal is its processor. They've lost their edge, and it's steadily becoming a waste of money to buy their computers. I've had my mac m1 pro max for 3 years now, and it's frustrating to use at times. They need fresh ideas, and a new ceo to spearhead their next wave or they will be superseded by better offerings.
It becomes increasingly annoying to see videos with these "new"features if you're not living in the USA. The only real new stuf is usually not available for us. Like background in facetime.
At least it seems consistent in that if it works for something, it always seems to work for that same thing. It seems that just some apps need to be updated.
Hi Gary, I am extremely angry for what Apple did to me in 2020, and its consequences. You know why? I bought my present Macbook Air in mid-2020 (my third Macbook so far). I bought it straight from Apple. Assuming that it is a 2020 model. After a few months I found out that it was a 2019 model and called Apple. A lady from Apple refused to exchange the Macbook, and told me the 2019 model was as fast as the 2020 model, and blah blah blah. And what happens in 2024? Since the 2019 model lacks the Apple M chip , it is not able to upgrade to Mc OS 15, Sequoia! Do I have any chance of asking for justice? Ask Apple to exchange my Macbook after four years?
I don't think Apple guarantees anything when it comes to updates. They provide them for free and eventually they always drop support for models at some point. I suppose that when you bought it there was a label, or certainly in the About This Mac screen, that showed "2019." But I know it is easy to not know to look for that for most people. I don't think there is anything you can do, sorry.

@@macmost Thanks for sharing! I can't believe I missed that feature.
Is there any way meanwhile to use the mic of a macbook when the lid is closed? cannot use voice-to-text or siri voice commands when the lid is closed. also not if I put my external camera as sound input device.
I don't think so. Maybe look into a cheap USB mic?
G'Day Gary. Maybe you can help me... I'm looking for a 'hidden' feature... Where has the FILES app disappeared to? I've searched high & low but can't find it. Any ideas please?
The Files app is on iOS and iPadOS, not the Mac. On Mac, you have the Finder.
@@macmost OK. Thanks for the quick response. I'm trying to get all my photos from some old Windows IDE HDD's and merge them on to a 4TB external SSD I have attached to my new Mac mini M4. My wife is getting nervous she is going to to lose stuff, so thanks for the help. Regards, Greg.
The transcription feature appears to work only for English. Would be helpful if you could select target language!
Like a lot of new features, they start with English and add more later.

"Keep file downloaded". Does this mean that the iCloud file gets synced whenever the downloaded file is changed???
That's always true. But what "Keep File Downloaded" means is that the file is guaranteed to be cached locally so you know you'll have it when you are offline.
It's a shame you can't set the default behaviour of the Safari Video Viewer to open in Picture in Picture mode, which in general I find to be the more useful feature. I don't think you can create a shortcut either. Hopefully they alter this in a future update or at least add it as an option to the drop-down menu.
I noticed that nobody mentions and more importantly do not complain about the fact that with Sequoia iphone mirroring you can not control the iphone camera!
After I downloaded Sequoia, My volume keys on the keyboard don't work,
Passwords: sadly the CLI security command that allows to safely retrieve access tokens and passwords still cannot obtain them from the icloud keychain, but only from the local keychain.
So if you're writing scripts, but want to run them on multiple macs, you have to configure all keychain items again and again :-(
I like your Vietnamese soulmate Gary. Will you introduce us?
That’s is a hidden feature! 😂
Sequoia's window tiling needs more work, like Windows 11's tiling or the magnet app.
On Sequoia system settings I inserted a photo on for the Wallpaper and now when I want to remove the photo from the Wallpaper I can not…..am I missing something or what?. Why I cannot remove the photo?. I would appreciate a comment from you…..Thank you.
Just select another wallpaper option, like a new photo or one of the Apple-supplied options.
Thank you. It worked just fine
Noice!

Probably not. There's a big difference between spoken words and words sung over accompanying music.
maaannn... I wish there was a keyboard shortcut that could minimize all windows except the active one… Or one that minimizes all other windows, with each press minimizing the next window, starting with the one that was least recently used.
But that just doesn't exist.
Nice features but they don't appeal YET
Now if only Apple would let us move from one choice to another in a dialog box with TAB!!!!!
They do. System Settings, Keyboard, "Keyboard navigation."
@@macmost When did THAT happen!? Thanks, macmost! I can't believe I've never noticed that.
@@macmost I do have that turned on but I still can't tab through choices in a dialog box.
@@ryk283 Have you tried different dialog boxes in different apps? Some third-party apps may be doing their own thing when it comes to some of their dialogs.
@@macmost I've been trying out dialog boxes in a number of Mac apps. In TextEdit if I try quitting without saving I can tab back and forth from Save As and Tags but not Delete, Cancel, and Save, and in other dialog boxes that have two or three choices, tabbing never goes between them.
Sequoia is better, but the iPhone mirroring is very clunky.
It’s nice to see Apple stealing other’s ideas. Kinda like Microsoft stealing the Xerox/Apple GUI UI idea in the 80’s.
I don't think Background Replacements is region-limited. Are you using the built-in camera?
@@macmost yes and Ican't find a setting for it. But I'm still searching.

The inconsistent behavior of Ctrl + Return is a joke... I hope they will improve it.
At least it seems consistent in that if it works for something, it always seems to work for that same thing. It seems that just some apps need to be updated.
@@macmost I hope so. For me the crucial use case is when working with text.
I hate key board short cuts
Agree,,, way too much to remeber
Why have "features" that are hidden? Something that is "featured" is something that is out front, on display, etc. "Hidden features" -> oxymoron
If any actually gets 'excited' by new features, they need to find a life. Shit, this is a tool and nothing more!
So we aren't allowed to be excited by new features? Why not? Sure it is a tool, but many people like their work and are excited to create things using this "tool."
@@macmost You can get excited by what the hell you like, of course. But for Christ's sake 'excited' about a new 'software feature'? Maybe you set the bar a lot lower than me.
@@patrickpowell5430 Maybe computers and software just more important to me than they are to you. Come to think of it, I have a degree in Computer Science, so it would be pretty sad if I didn't get excited about software. I'm glad I chose a career that I enjoy. I don't know what you do for a living, but I hope you get excited by new things in your field.
@@patrickpowell5430 Perhaps that new software feature is something a user may have been hoping for with their Mac and now it's finally native and they don't have to deal with 3rd party developer apps that may have limited support or cause instability. And it should be fun to get excited about new features. I mean, look at yourself, you're here aren't you? This video is about new features. If you only see your Mac as a "Tool" then you can simply go to the Apple site and get the features. You don't need to be shown by a UA-cam reviewer. This is one of the biggest OS upgrades in years on MacOS. People have good reason to be excited. Party Pooper.
