Sequoia is a culmination of great user-friendly tools that started long ago with 3rd party utilities. I’ve been waiting for this. Awesome detail, Gary.
Mr. Gary is amazing! He has been teaching me about Macs for the past 13 years via UA-cam. Thanks to the wealth of knowledge he’s shared, I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro with the M4 Pro chip. If you’re upgrading from an older Intel-based MacBook to a new one with an M-chip, be aware that you may face compatibility issues with external devices. I spent 2 hours with Apple support to resolve an issue with my external hard drive. The key takeaway is to make sure you’re using M-chip-compatible software for any external devices. Mr. Gary, please consider making a detailed video to help others with this issue!
Thank you for all your helpful videos! I just setup an Mini M4pro and looking to add external nvme storage. Is it better to use one partition with multiple volumes or several partitions? This is for music production, recording and using samples, etc. Thx!
I have used Macs so long, it's hard to get used to some of this new functionality. Hell, I still use icon view. Really just because I always have. I do try out your tips, however. Always good to try to keep up with things. 😎
The most significant negative of Sequoia is the sync with my iPhone and Mac. Email, photos, and text messages only sync some of the time. It is intermittent. I never had any issues with syncing before Sequoia.
@@alisheikh1582 Why? I edit with Photoshop using a trackpad. Lots of people do. If you prefer a mouse, that's fine. But you said you hate yours so I was suggesting something that may work better.
Not connected but have to ask. On ipad, when I format a simple spreadsheet with text entries in a column, some of the entries have a space (slight indent) in front of the first character and I have no idea why. (There are other issues like cutting a pasting entries in the same sheet changes fonts/sizes for no reason). Maybe I should just stick to using numbers on my mac!
Apple just made a huge update on the Photo App. You can now easily add photos to albums just like you can add song to a playlist. I requested this feature months ago. Can you do a tutorial on the new Photo app? Thanks!
@ yes but i tend to add the same photo to multiple albums and now when you right click on the photo you can choose “show in albums” amd it will display all the albums where you added you photo to, similar to how it does with songs in the Music app “show in playlist”. The Photo app didn’t do that before and I couldn’t easily see all the albums i added the photo to, but now I can 👍
How to sync files from one folder to another, without using a 3rd party app? Can we do that using Shortcuts? The ideal situation is the two folders (one in SSD, one in HDD) to be always in sync. Thank you...
@@macmost Let's say the Folder-A is on USB-C SSD, which travels with me, keeps adding documents and files. The Folder-B on a USB HDD at home, should be in sync with Folder-A, as soon as I plug in the SSD. Does it make sense? It sounds like a backup, but it isn't just a backup, because the desktop Mac at home can always access the data in Folder-B.
@@masterof But what I'm asking is WHY. Why do you need to have the same files in two locations and sync them like that? What's the use case? So far, it sounds like this is something that a cloud service like iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, etc. would be better suited for.
Hi Gary - Thanks for the regular lessons! Do you know of a list of apps that stop working from one OS to another? I'm on 14.7. I want to upgrade to 15... BUT I read it has changed the 'signing' authorization and some app *versions* no longer launch. for me - I use Filemaker, but years-old version 14. I'm not a developer and don't want to upgrade as they changed the app so much to make it more of an 'app development tool' rather than a 'single user database app' unto itself. This means that every year when Apple updates its OS, I have to worry it will break the one thing I use most on my Mac (outside of of Pages and other built-in Apple apps). Claris does not provide the info - they only say if and when the latest version works with the latest OS. (I'm still astounded Claris is wholly absorbed within Apple, and that running FIlemaker databases isn't built into the OS or at least a free runtime is built into the platform like all the other Apple apps.)
I don't know of anyone that maintains such a list. If there is a particular app you are worried about, I would check with that app's developer. If they don't provide the info (and I can't blame them if you aren't on the current version) then there's not much you can do. Maybe find a friend with Sequoia and test it? But it sounds like eventually you'll need to move on from that old version of that app. So maybe do that now? Find another solution for whatever it is you are using it for? After all, you can't remain at 2023 software forever. Think about it this way: if you Mac broke (stolen, fire, etc) you'd get a new one and that would have Sequoia and need to move on from old apps. So instead of that potential disaster hanging over you, find new solutions now on your own terms and time schedule.
@@macmost Yeah... There just isn't a good replacement for this *really old* version of Filemaker. Claris/Apple completely broke it; no competitor ever matched it (at least in the areas that I use). Why doesn't Apple have a setting so the text in a column (in window column view) automatically expands (perhaps on mouse pointer hover) to see all the text in a column at full width, not truncated like it currently is? This has been infuriating for years!
Probably because it would be disorienting. You'd fly through folders with the down arrow or by clicking and the columns would be expanding and shrinking with each one. That's my guess anyway. I bet they tried it and found it to be a real problem.
