I was initially worried about buying a Chromebook but thanks to your channel I've had my Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 14IAN8 (i3-n305, 8GB, 256GB) for over a week and I've not only been just satisfied but impressed.
Still rockin' my Pixelbook I've had since 2017 and hopefully will for the next 21 months when the updates stop! My pick, though would be his favorite - the Samsung.
I agree, the Acer Chromebook spin 714 is a good Chromebook. I've a version that has an Intel 13th gen i5 processor, 512GB SSD and stowed USI stylus. Performance is good enough to run the Steam Beta. I also have an Acer Chromebook spin 513 with the Kompanio 1380 processor which is a good arm based Chromebook with 3:2 aspect display.
I really like the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Plus, but I just wish they had a smaller form factor available. I've got a Dell XPS 13 with Chrome OS Flex on it and that feels perfect (form factor and power). Missing that Google Play store....
Thanks for a great list of current Chromebooks. But personally I am waiting to see what happens with the rumoured Mediatek MT8189 in early 2025, as am hoping that Google will finally get around to including ARM-powered devices in its ChrombookPlus certification. . And talking of Google - Considering all the recent rumours of a proposed breakup of the company, are you planning to do a video on how this might affect the future development and strategy of ChromeOS as well as Chromebooks? Thx.
Yeah that was my biggest concern with the Chromebook Plus announcement is that for people that are interested in tablets or arm-based Chromebooks you're kind of a man without a country. Or a man without a Chromebook plus.
Too bad HP missed the bus. I'm rocking their 12th gen one and I get why it's not on the list but they're so, so close ... and I'm that weird guy who cares about speakers, they nailed it for a chromebook.
The HP x360 14c didn't make the cut this year. One day, HP will raise the screen to more than 250 nits and remove some plastic build quality to compete better.
Chromebook Plus has come to mean the Chromebook probably has the bare minimum specs to meet the Plus standard and has given manufacturers an excuse not to push Chromebooks specs further. My four year old HP x360 meets the specs for Plus. It's four years old, that's ancient in computer years. I want to upgrade my x360 but since my four year old Chromebook is the Plus standard I have no reason to.
It is safe, and I hope that Google will improve their support or convert them into AndroidBooks. It looks like Google is closing Chromebooks down, even without the forced sale of Chrome, and instead moving everything to Android. That also means they will discontinue their Pixel Tablet.
if you had a choice between the cx34 and the flex 5i, which one wins? I currently have the cx34 i5 version, got it for a great discount, but have been considering the flex 5i....so if you have an opinion I would love to read it.
@@franciscopina5881 Not necesarily. Any X86 chromebook will do. My Acer Spin 714 with the i3 1315U etc was never a chromebook plus device, yet it supports steam perfectly fine.
This guy never discusses what I'm looking for in a Chromebook, that being a large-screen device with a great visual presentation. It seems to be all about what I consider to be laptop minutia. However, Chromebook doesn't seem interested in putting out a device with a 17.3-inch screen with a bright and well-defined screen.
Any competitively priced retailers that ship internationally? Unfortunately most of those in the video aren't available where I am. Bestbuy don't ship internationally.
I wish that one of these OEM's would release a thin, sub 2.5lb 13" or 14" Chromebook with a Snapdragon X Elite/Plus. Most of these Chromebooks that keep being released are still thick, heavy, outdated in design, and using 2-3 gens behind Intel processors that still generate heat with mediocre battery life.
I think there might be some exclusivity arrangement with Windows. Those haven't really even gone down to many budget windows devices yet. This is speculation though I do not know. It would seem like a natural fit since the purpose of a Chromebook is largely to have a power efficient portable machine.
Yes a cursory search shows that at least for a while these things are made purpose-built for windows. I don't know if there's a technological reason why they couldn't power a Chromebook I tend to doubt it. But lunar lake would seemingly be a good option so I would hope to see that soon.

What are your thoughts on chromeOS merging into android?
Great video! Wish these were done more regularly...they really help with purchasing decisions. Thanks & happy holidays.

My 2017 pixelboook stopped connecting to the Internet.
I ordered the Asus CX54 yesterday. I'm glad it's on the list.
Nice Ive been thinking of getting one as well, how much did you pay?
I bought the Acer Spin 714 CB Plus 1 month ago and I am very happy. I wanted a 15.6" screen but none were spect good enogh.
will chromebooks ever use the new qualcomm chips?
For the Samsung Chromebook plus, there is an option to buy the core 5 version as well instead of core 3.
@awesomedude3949 Same with most of these but why? The i3 rips through Chrome OS and even handles most android/linux stuff decently.
@ yeah, but I just mentioned it, just for info.
@awesomedude3949 Fair enough. I just find my 12th gen i3 is plenty fast for a chromebook but it's not my main computer.
I wish you guys would do the podcast again at least occasionally even if you can't do it weekly. Monthly or something there's so much going on.
Still using my original Lenovo Chromebook Duet. A bit slow but it's good.
What do you think about the discussion that google wants to replace chromeos with android?

I've had interested in the Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 for some time now. The sale is pretty good.

Does any one know a stylus that works on the hp chromebook plus 14a core i3 n305 x360 ?

Fantastic channel, definitely my go-to for all things Chrome 👍
Thanks for the update. Would be nice to include a budget option too for the holidays. I see a Chromebook Plus for $199. core i3, 512GB SSD, 8GB
I paid £175 for my CX34 just over a year ago. That's about $220.
Can you provide a link? Looking to get my little sisters one for the holidays
Is it safe to get a chromebook now with chrome being forced to be sold off???

Stadia controller. 😎

350 nits isn't bright
even the Galaxy Chromebook is dim
Meditek chipset?
Waiting for the 8gb ram duet to come to Canada.

There is no such thing as a "Best Chromebook"
Great review though
What are you going to rename your channel once Google kills ChromeOS in a couple of years; crappy Android tablets with HDMI ports unboxed?
One of the joys of using a Chromebook is knowing that people like you will never appreciate them.
@@markbracegirdle7110I think you have it backwards. He doesn't want ChromeOS to be replaced by Android....
