It’s been a little over a week since the official launch of Chromebook Plus, and we’re still reeling a bit from all that was unveiled at the event. From new hardware specifications to new software inclusions, Chromebook Plus is one of those changes to the Chromebook ecosystem that will likely reverberate for many years to come, and we’re just getting started.

Because of this channel, I feel like I have a certification in Chrome OS at the very least. Kudos to you guys.
Haha, I've given myself a certification because I know where the search button is :)
@@Jonathan-LI have a certification for knowing that Chromebook computers exist. Does that count?
@@glennso47 You're in with the rest of us Glenn :)
@@Jonathan-LIm also certified in how to not let the pigeon drive the bus. Since getting that certification, I’ve not seen a single bus being driven by a pigeon.
A question rather than a comment. Do you think Google will provide "Plus" specifications for a Chromebox? My desktop experience has been 100% Chromebox for the past 5 years and I have no plans to change. Thank you.
I'm curious about this myself. I think Chrome boxes and desktops are overlooked.
Good question I'm considering adding a chromebox to my set up.
You could just get the Chromebook you like and attach to your monitor and peripherals to get the best of both worlds.
I'm hoping that my HP all-in-one Chromebase will qualify for Chromebook plus features. I am at least happy that all Chromebooks / Chromebase / Chromebox released 2021 or after will now get 10 years of OS updates now (instead of 8 years).
I bought Chromebook because of you (instead of Android tablet) and I couldn't be more thankful. Chrome OS is so underrated. Thanks to Linux it can do everything :)
Feels like Chromebooks are just completely done with arm chips? No criteria for Chromebook Plus ... No snapdragon partnership anymore. In fact it's been a couple years since there's been a refresh of the Lenovo duet. I'm a little worried about this trend
Are those native gaming Chromebooks going to be a thing still? I see reports googles killed it internally but you’d still have Intel and AMD for options. I also know we have the cloud gaming focused Chromebooks but as much as I enjoy cloud gaming I’d like to see Google focus on and continue improving the Linux container for Steam.
I see them very cheap now. The Lenovo with RGB keyboard, i3-1215U, 8GB/256GB 120Hz IPS 2560 x 1600 screen is the same price as chromebooks with way less specs. So it could mean they dont support it anymore
interesting, no ARM based Chromebooks plus at launch
Such a shame Samsung is no where to be found. I'm not sure we will see a Galaxy Chromebook 3 anytime soon.
Chromebook duet Chromebook plus that's what I need.
Enough of the exclusivity shit. Just roll the features out to any device that can support them.
Absolutely the right move to set a known standard for quality. It does sniff a little like "supporting the price", but it's hard to complain as the combo of specs and cost is very fair.
Me? I'll probably continue to scour for a) the best screen b) the right size, 11-12in c) the right price. These are fairly specific to me...
Now we just need a Chromebook Pro category with i5 or Ryzen 5/16GB RAM/512GB SSD as the minimum specs. Sometimes 8 GB just doesn't cut it if you're a developer, not to mention if you want to run games from Steam on these integrated graphics with shared video memory.
I do wish that reviews would mention whether a particular chromebook has a fan and if it does is it on most of the time or noisy when it runs.
Especially the intel variants
I've never had one with a fan
@@gilbosavannahor a fan club.
I hope we get to see new ChromeOS tablets soon, I’ve been using the HP X2 11 for a while now and I absolutely utterly adore it. I know many ppl consider the Duet 3 to be superior but the X2 11 to me looks much more premium and professional, also I don’t think I can go without the magnetic charged pen anymore, it spoils me too much 😂.
Yea that would be cool. I was shocked when my Pixel Tablet turned out to just be Android.
Yeah I'm genuinely a little worried because none of these Chromebook Plus criteria mentions arm based chips. The Snapdragon partnership, who made the chip for the Lenovo duet 5, is now dissolved. I'm a little bit worried about the future of arm based Chromebooks. Like based on the criteria for Chromebook Plus, none of the arm-based duets or tablets would be eligible.
@@michaelcorcoran8768 I don’t need a Plus, regular ones are perfectly fine, and there are already leaks of a new tablet from Asus that rocks a Kompanio (don’t remember which one). There’s an article on Chromeunboxed website. I know they are dropping, but not sure when. If they keep it similar to the CM3 with the pen and slimmer bezels, oh boy I’m all down, hope it’s 11 inches, I don’t enjoy big tablets. The X2 11’s design’s still king tho.
@@KirbyKlein6 GG needs to reboot the Slate.
I don't think ARM-based Chromebooks will go anywhere anytime soon. There's still an education market which Google dominates, at least in the U.S. and I don't see educators wanting to pony up more cash for something that appears to be aiming for a "premium" type experience. There's an entire generation growing up on Chrome OS & Android. Having the ARM-based devices around just makes sense as a good financial jumping on point for people entering the Google eco-system. I think we're just witnessing more growth of Google's slow burn.
I bought that HP 14C "2 in 1" the last day BestBuy had it on sale for $449.00. I've been really happy with it so far, but the screen could be a bit brighter. It's fine for indoor use in normally lit areas, but would be lacking in brightly lit areas. However, I'm very happy that it meets the Chromebook Plus specifications.
PS: I had purchased the ASUS Flip CX5 (CX5601) last year right after it came out. Based on what I can tell, it also looks like it meets the Chromebook Plus specs. I really like the CX5, but it's just a bit too large to routinely travel with, thus the HP 14C purchase. Not sure if I'll keep the CX5, as I really don't need more than one Chromebook, but if I sell it I'll take a big hit.
Same here... I use the screen inside 99% of the time and it's perfectly fine. Of course, if you need outdoor capability then you'd need to look elsewhere. I also don't see the body flex that Robby mentions, my device seems extremely well built. Plus, I love the 16x10 display, improved speaker quality and newer processor that this model offers. Finally, I'm thrilled that the HP will get the "Plus" updates. I purchased it prior to Google's announcements (open box at Best Buy for $280), and this is a VERY nice bonus!
Lenovo Flex i5 Chromebook Plus comes with fingerprint and 512GB in germany
We need a Pixelbook Go 2
Honestly it's been so hard finding more info on these!! Thank you
How about the Pixelbook Go?
Still a confusing specs move by Google - especially for making that spec being a Gen12 CPU and above - especially when you have the Asus CX55 with 16GB, 256ssd disk but a Gen11 CPU....... I've just resisted buying one off Amazon uk and trying to get Gen12 models direct from suppliers is tricky here in the UK they just don't appear to have the latest models on these acer store., hp store in the uk .. all currently vacant with Gen 12 models T he asus uk store has a big 'learn more' splash for the CX34 but can you buy it today - no .. They have some Gen 12 models CX5 (cx56**) but not a select to choose 16GB of memory. This just feels the UK consideration of Chromebooks is over looked. Trying to get others in the uk interested as much as I am about them is a struggle.
Thank you for the great content !!
ChromeOS is yearning for native apps.
Going through Amazon I noticed Chromebook plus V2 with half the ram so I'm a little confused. How could they be called plus?
Be aware the cool video effects on the plus models cannot be recorded unless you subscribe for ten a month. What a scam. And the effects are not in the camera area - they are in Google Meet. You have to start a meeting and can play with them there. But you can't record it without a subscription!! I took my CB back once I found that out.
This is so cool. Thanks for showing us these devices.
I'm wondering if my Pixelbook Go will be upgraded to Plus. Unfortunately, its camera recently failed. I spent an hour on the phone yesterday with Google and all that got done was to reload the OS. Instead of providing a new computer, Google wants me to offload OS stuff onto another device and blah, blah, blah. Disappointed in Google.
Some problem with my Pixelbook Go, clearly a design fault
So they released names for the models that will be getting these updates and it’s very disappointing. Only two Asus models? The cx5 5600 and not the 5400? BS.
Because of this channel I was on ChromeOSflex for 2 months and purchased my first Chromebook on the 29th just got it yesterday and I love it
I've been looking into either getting a Chromebook plus or a used Pixelbook. What are your thoughts on the capabilities between the two? From what I could tell it seems like they're both really similar in terms of hardware specs minus a different Gen processor, but the only difference I noticed was that Google AI is available on the Chromebook Plus devices.
So will Chromebooks like the dragonfly pro get the branding? I know they'll get the software support. I'm just curious will they put the actual name on the laptops now.
Yeah I suppose it's possible if they manufacture new batches of it they could add the branding. Otherwise probably just a sticker on the box or something
Tempted at the Lenovo offerings right now
Picked up the new Lenovo Chromebook Plus Flex 5i from my local Best Buy this a.m. They now have some stock on the Plus units.
Thanks for the info! 😃👍🏻👊🏻 ...but no 3:2 aspect ratio is a deal breaker for me on all of them.
Yes, I feel like this "plus" is a miss for me as it means nothing for the display. 1080P? UGH. My mid tier 6" phone has a better screen. The display is literally the most important thing on a laptop. They need a ++ : )
Bought an open box excellent condition Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i Chromebook Plus from Best Buy because I've been wanting to play around with ChromeOS, as well as Linux, and of course, Gemini AI Advanced. Great price for a fairly tricked out laptop with a great build. Just like my Lenovo Legion gaming laptop, the build quality is great.
No flex on the Flex? Was it misnamed?
Coming late to the party... Missing from this stack, the original Samsung Galaxy Chromebook, the fire engine red one with the OLED screen. The Mac Daddy of Chromebooks. Perhaps one of the most exquisitely beautiful laptops ever built.
An abject failure at $1,000, you can find one in decent shape on eBay for under 400 bucks. Still amazingly beautiful with incredible all metal build quality.
The main fault is the battery will last about 15 minutes, but I don't care. 😁
For the things I need a Chromebook to do, and with the increasing availability of AC power on flights and trains, this thing with its i5 and 8/256G config really should be in your pile of affordable devices that can qualify as Chromebook Plus.
I invite you to revisit this device. It's still a worthy contender in 2024, despite the crappy battery life. It's an amazing failure whose faults are more easily overlooked at $400 then they were at $1,000.
Which of these are one of the best ones you would recommend
looking forward to the review on that ASUS cx34!
Thanks for your videos. I don't miss any. Do you think that the Lenovo duet 5, despite not having the plus certification, will be able to use the magic editor and all the other certification tools? I am in love with that device but I don't want it to become obsolete when I buy it
I wish I have one..
Can you share your blessing of chromebook.any brand will do.
Cyber Philippines.
God bless Mr chrome unboxed
I'm not liking the lack of microSD card slots, only noisy fan equipped chipsets and as a result mediocre battery life on these Chromebook Plus models. Meh.
Looking forward to seeing all the new plus models 😊 Is there any of the Chromebook Plus models out now, that take or have a Sim Card Slot?
First Chromebook Plus that has a 3:2 takes my money. Once you have that like with the Acer 713 you can't go back.
3:2 and better than 1080 panel. The 2560 ballpark is the sweet spot for pixels to battery use IMHO.
Will the samsung galaxy chromebook get the update? I paid like a grand for it.
About two years ago, I bought a Samsung Chromebook 4k. It was the worst I bought from Samsung so far. I returned it the next day after I set up and made some personal tests. I don't think they should be charging over 1k for that Chromebook.
@@GPDFI remember when it was on heavy discount at Best buy with clearance rates for like 400 bucks or something. But the reviews had a lot of complaints over battery life. Seem to be it's Achilles heel, along with price. It's a shame because the idea of a 4K premium Samsung Chromebook with S-Pen support could be exciting.
@@michaelcorcoran8768 The idea was exciting, and thats why I bought one.
That promotion I didn't see it, but I don't think I would have bought it again.
What do you do with all the spare Chromebooks? Do they all get sent back to the manufacturer or return to Best Buy?
Sometimes they're only loaners. But outside of that, some creators sell them. Some keep them for reference. Some give them away to family. Zeos has garage sales and sells all his review copies of headphones for thousands of dollars. Nice gig if you can get it
Does the 128gb of storage need to be an NVME/SSD drive to be a "plus" model? Or can Acer get by with 128gb of EMMC storage like on the Acer Spin 514 and call that a "plus"?
I see Samsung Plus chromebooks using EMMC storage so a big NO.
Does this mean devices without a 1080p camera won't get the update? I have the ASUS Vibe CX34 Flip which is top of the line, but the camera is meh. I'd hate to miss out on the the plus features because of the stupid camera!
Very good information in this video
Because of your review of Asus CX5 Chromebook with Tiger Lake Intel Core i3, I bought it at Best Buy, I bought the Asus 5601 but then you reviewed the Acer 516 GE Chromebook and I couldn't pass that up but I had just bought the 2020 MacBook Air with M1 chip and just paid up the Asus 5601 and delayed doing so for almost 8 months and then I learned about Target and their program of the Acer Refurbished 516 GE Chromebook and that I could afford. When you buy a premium laptop with good internals, buying refurbished isn't that much of a risk especially since it is manufacturer refurbished. I took a chance and I have no regrets. I didn't buy it for games, I bought it because of the decent build quality and it is perfect for me. It is going to receive updates till June 2032 so that's so great. I have NorVPN at your suggestion and I had TotalAV but luckily it was at the $19.99 price promo as I was not happy with it and will probably get either Webroot or the Trend one.
I tried to find a 12" or 13" Chromebook Plus and could not find such. Samsung calls their 12.2" a Chromebook Plus but it is not technically such as it has a Celeron processor. Is there a 12-13" Chromebook Plus available? Just bought a Lenovo Duet 5 but I do not like the floppy detachable keyboard.

No
Oct 9, 2023, IT store Cape Town, South Africa 🇿🇦. No Chromebook Plus in the country. Tourist from USA walks in, want Chromebook Plus, as he couldn't source one in America. Seems like the supply chain is failing us.
After The Greatest Google Pixelbook Go What Chromebook Would You Recommend Today
How many are these are Arm powered?
Zero. They did not include ARM for Plus. For me this means no more Chroembooks. Hopefully they will correct this mistake.
@@atodea that is such a giant failure.
Totslly agree. I just got the duet 5 for 329 and this thing is a beast.its only Google drawing some lines so that people go and get that device instead. THe only thing ill miss with my duet 5 is android studio emulators..... IT can do pretty much anything else and im sure it can also do emulation but its limited by google @@charbax
So the HP Elite C1030 wont get it as it has a 720p webcam, despite having an 10th gen i7, 16gb ram and 128gb nvme... Thats shame. Maybe they should allow update "at users risk" or something.
Plus Chromebook. I have spotted those Chromebook Categories too in our local Currys Shop here in Uxbridge Road, Hayes Middlesex Greater London UK.
Hope thats what youre calling Chromebook Plus over the Atlantic!
Now Google should buy or create one great Music producing app. One online video maker and people will start buying these chromebooks
I am confused with all these different configurations and plus labeling. Can you suggest which chromebook to buy that has the "Chromebook PLUS" label? One that is a 2 in 1 and sells for $600 or less? Thanks.
Great video!! So what’s your favorite one.? I’m in the market for one. Thanks in advance
Is Chromebook Plus a minimum performance criteria? Can there be Chromebooks that far exceed this criteria but wouldn't labeled chromebook plus?
The Flex 5i is pulling 82K on the Octane benchmark. Feels just as fast as my 5700G/3060 tower for web browsing.
So Asus Chromebook Plus CM34 Flip is just regular one, but without "plus" in logo and another colour? Am i right?
I have lenove chromebook duet, I am receiving a notification "chromebook shows update available learn more about the latests chrome update" but on clicking nothing happens and this notification has been stuck on my notification panel. Can someone help me here????
I will never buy a Chromebook again, the black screen issue is annoying and nobody will touch it
So the samsung galaxybook 2 I bought with the i3 and 128gb is now a plus? Nice.
Ate the Adobe software going to be key-centric, touch-enabled, supporting universal stylus, or a hybrid of those?
I'm not a fan of the "plus" models supposedly getting exclusive software features with no actual justification other than the label on the front lid. Was hoping laptops of all things would avoid the "pixel experience" stuff where only certain Pixel models get only certain features with the OS updates
Any good Snapdragon/Mediatek Chromebook Plus models so far?
I love my Chromebook, it just works well for most of my needs, I find myself picking it up more than my MacBook
I love the Chromebook Plus lineup of devices, but come-on, that logo is the definition of plain vanilla.
Hi Everyone can anyone recommend the best chromebook for photos and videos storage and editing.?
Not too keen about Walmart and Best Buy. More and more the retail experience now is less tech-experience in salespeople
I got the HP and Acer Chromebook Plus and both do not allow you to proceed thru set up process. Can't even use.
I honestly appreciate what Google is doing in setting these minimum standards, however I do believe that they should have at least made the SSD speeds anything above eMMC which most of the Plus models will likely have. I also think the minimum size should have been 256GB.
please do a comparable video of the 2 in 1 chromebook plus (including the ones that wouldn't have the "plus" on the device
Thank you for the excellent list on Best Buy. Super easy to choose. 👍👍

My question is how do I get the "Plus" feature's? Is it automatic or?
It will be downloaded with your update. You can check with Chrome Unboxed as he knows many things about the Chromebook since he's been reviewing them for many years.
You should do a review on each new chromebook
Google needed to create the he Plus to separate the mid-range Chromebook from the cheap, nasty ones people buy their kids. I worked in a place where we had a couple of Chromebooks that I offered to remote users, who refused them and I had to give them even older PC laptops, despite the fact that they all only used 365 online apps. For Chromebook market penetration to improve they needed a 'Plus' image
Has the HP 15.6 been reviewed?
is it 12th gen and up for plus ?
Which chromebook is the best to use for geforce now ultimate?
Geforce now uploaded a new video about chromebook plus by using the Acer 516 GE, but i think that is not a chromebook plus
Yes it is, mine doesn't have the logo on the front but when you open it up chromebook plus comes up with your password or pin number on the opening screen.
When is GPlus coming to Au ?

For that use, maybe the Lenovo Duet 5 tablet is best.
