Complete Short Line Railroad Switching Job On I&O Railway! American Railway Shunting Action!

- American railway carriage shunting at its best! Short line railroad I&O complete customer switching job. Indiana And Ohio Railway, IORY, used an EMD GP50 to switch an industrial railroad spur east of Cincinnati in the town of Leesburg Ohio on the Greenfield Sub. The train brought 3 tank cars to Candle Lite. Candle Lite already had 5 tank cars on their siding next to the ex Baltimore & Ohio Railroad mainline. The cars were shuffled around and the local picked up 3 after setting off 3. Listen in on 161.295 for this branch and 161.220 for the Midland Sub which is the connection that this dead end branch line runs off of in Midland, Ohio. On August 25, 2020 I was filming this line and they used 161.220 while switching Leesburg and Greenfield so either frequency could be used. This line use to be a through route but was cut in the 80s. CSX sold this line to the town of Greenfield, Ohio and they lease it to I&O. There are 3 main customers on the 20 something mile long line. The best days to catch a train on this line are Tuesdays and Thursdays although I have seen trains on Sundays also. Filmed June 9, 2020.

Nice to see a short line with pride in how their locomotives look. Gives the crews pride too
A lot of the locomotives on the shortlines have the side of their engines in the same fonts.
They're practically museum clean
Back & Forth & Back & Forth & Back & Forth.
Industrial switching at its finest, with a downright handsome loco.
Perfect day for a perfect video...
Thanks JT!! 😁
All that green was soothing to the soul and mind. Thank you!!!
I like to see the trains being put together & unloading. Amazing how much to do. For the customers. 👍😎
Switching trains is fun to watch too. Cool! 😊Thank you so much for this cool video. 😊😊😊
Always like the switching jobs where it's easy to see just how they do it.. Thx
Another fine video. Again you outdo yourself in attention to detail, camerawork, and informative narration. I loved that tidbit you slipped in about the depot being restored. It’s always nice to hear about the local citizenry getting together to preserve a piece of historic value. What would they do with it otherwise? Tear it down and leave an empty lot, or put up a hamburger stand? Maybe in the future you could fill us in on the history of the depot as they restore it. The four most beautiful words on UA-cam: “But wait, there’s more!”
The switching is like a complex puzzle.
I'm so glad someone wants to restore that lovely old station!
I love switching videos. That was a great one JT. Thanks.
I remember the days when mixed freights, intermodals and coal trains cruised through Leesburg at 50 MPH (80 KPH) about 18 of them a day. In addition there were 2 Amtraks, one from Washington to Cincinnati and one from Cincinnati to Washington. None of which stopped in Leesburg during the Amtrak era, Loveland and Chillicothe were the nearest stations at the time. Amtrak might have done 60 MPH (100 KPH) through Leesburg.
I'd love to see a shot of a train going across the trestle at East Monroe Falls on Rattlesnake Creek near Leesburg.
Make sure the pins are in the couplers you don’t want it to fall on your foot 😂
One complicated switch move.. That engineer knew just how to feather that engine hardly a bang. Nice video. Thanks
Switching is always interesting and that’s life on the railroads.
👍glad to hear that grad depot will live on. Great live action switching action
An engine looks so funny running along the track by itself, like a semi with no trailer. It's pretty fast too on it's own it appears.
They are fast. I paid for a drive a locomotive experience at the Portola railroad museum 2018. I drove a SP Gp9 Highhood (the WP F7 broke down just before I was due to drive it!). From Notch 2 to 3 to notch four and you are really accelerating (almost running away with itself) fast, faster than you would think!
Great video as always! Glad to hear they are saving that old depot! Thanks for sharing Jawtooth!
That loco is painted the same as Wiregrass Central in Enterprise, AL. Seen it before.
Nice seeing you again sir!! Always love your chasing trains and enthusiasm. Love your videos. Please keep em comin
Definitely a fun job with a lot of hard work to do!
I'd like to see that station's progress as they restore it. I bet it will be cool when it's done.
Great railroad action - the day to day meat and potato work on local freights.
I like to see the ground crews in action
Always a great capture from you. Enjoying your complete switching coverage. Keep them coming.
That was fantastic!! I love switching!! Thank you!
That's great the shortline companies are making the tracks profitable again.
I have MAD respect for the engineer. He clearly knows exactly how to tame the beast! Oh, and nice videography, Brian. 😁
Thanks again!
What is, “MAD respect?”
Great respect
Steel City Railfan 8099 Thanks.
No problem
Great video! Glad to see the depot will be getting restored as well.
Switching videos are the best. Like this one. Well done.
Glad you think so!
Love the switching videos, all yours are great and those engines with that paint job are my favorite. Keep those videos coming Jaw Tooth.
thank you for share detail video on operation
Awesome switching action!
Jawtooth, That Was An Extremely Interesting Video. That Was Fun To See Another Aspect Of Railroading Besides The Train En Route From One Place To Another. I Would Not Mind At All, Seeing Another Video Like This One. Well Done, Sir!
Glad you enjoyed it! I just filmed another one where they were switching a scrap yard. I will post it soon. I have a couple to post first
@@JawTooth That's Awesome! I Will Definitely View It. I Am Already Subscribed And The Bell Button Has Been Hit. I Can't Wait Until You "Start The Video, Son". 😀
All that back and forth over and over again must drive some of those engineers nuts!
I love the Geeps. This one has a nice color scheme. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
You’re Right about being a LOT of Work to Switch them out. Definitely looks like Job Security.😬👍
Very nice. Keep up the good work. Your videos are always a day brightener!
Great video Jawtooth. The IORY has some interesting switching operations. Love those old B&O depots. Horn was amazing. Keep up the good work m.
Lovely sound. I could listen to an idling 645 all day
Should do another video of train action at the pg plant.
Leesburg Ohio railroad tracks switch tank cars that's awesome jaw tooth bless you my friend stay safe almost Leesburg Florida Sunshine State
Wow, JT!!! 2 thumbs up holding that camera steady on what sounded like a pretty windy day!!
Thanks! Its always a challenge. I'm just glad it wasn't raining.
@@JawTooth lol
Saw two I&O engines in Irving, Tx today. Irving is west of Dallas.
Keep up the good work enjoy your efforts
Jawtooth, you should get some video of the old train station once they start on its restoration. I'd love to see the work and the finished product.
Nothing better than watching jawtooth on my big TV keep up the great work
Thanks! Will do!
Seeing. "Old Glory" to left looks good. I wish the kids had never defaced the boxcars with spray paint. So used to seeing it now it's everywhere. Still enjoy watching the train.
So true!
I really appreciate the heads up on IDing the locomotive GP50
If you're watching a video and he doesn't mention, Googling the railroad and engine number (e.g., "IORY 5014") almost always gets the result straight away. rrpicturearchives.net is usually among the top couple of hits and it's a great resource. In this case, it also tells you that the loco was built in December 1980 for Burlington Northern.
I have to comment again. That was a perfect video. I am going to try to model this industry
cool catch JT i just love the switchiing and when the train pull up, the crossbuck light go out, Wow my head is hurting LOL thanks again :-) cool no graffitti and no animals were hurt or mamed during this production :-)
Graffiti on the second to last tanker.
I noticed the lights on the signal kept going off.
Nice to hear the old Depot is getting done up . Try and get us some pictures of the progress Old Bean. Old Fifty Fourteen is blowing some condensation from them auto drain valves , I would drain them tanks but i am stuck in England under Lockdown .
Cool switching maneuvers! I think they had to position certain cars in a certain order as they were leaving some of the cars there because reasons. Great video Jaw Tooth! :D
Great job keep those videos coming.
Thanks, will do!
nice one JT. cool to see that whole op.
I saw the 5014 years ago in BN paint south of Brookville,Ind on the now abandoned north end of the former NYC Brookville branch.
It was in white face paint.
5104 was ordered as SLSF 794 but delivered as BN 3104.
Only 1 SLSF GP50 was delivered in SLSF paint and this was not the one. I remember once driving past EMD/Chicago and in the distance seeing new SLSF SD40-2s waiting for delivery.
Cool, thanks for the info! I was on the Brookville Branch a couple weeks ago but nothing was running. I'm trying to film a train coming back from the new grainery or Valley Asphalt
Smitty SF-3751
Great video, even the weather cooperated, we are still in the low 100 degrees, with a slight chance of rain.
I just got back from Pennsylvania filming trains in a light rain. I will trade you the rain for the 100 degrees sunshine
Muy buen vídeo, buen color y tremendas maniobras. Muy interesante. Gracias
just goes to show that little boys never grow up - their toys just get bigger!
Nice video. Thanks for posting.
No cooler sound then a diesel engine revving up, nice deep bass and rumble, it rattles the bones when your close !!!
You got that right!
Good Stuff JT !!
That switching (or shunting as we would call it in the UK) seemed to take a long time. Then I realised that it took so long that you were clean shaven at the start of the video but had started to grow a beard by the time that the manoeuvres were complete.
Beautiful locomotive and enjoying watching too AWESOME VIDEO Jaw Tooth 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😃😎 and the side show too AWESOME Jaw Tooth ❤
Thank you very much!
Super video my friend! Thank for sharing!
Thank you! Cheers!
I love these old depots.
Wow JT, very hard to follow. Glad the conductors knew the plan.
That was a nicely timed fire truck 18:00.
Gotta say, if I was American I would get sick of being stuck at all these road crossings - even though I like trains
Awesome video of the railroad switching an industry
Thanks Scott!
I can imagine the big yards where everything is longer and it takes even more time. That's the kind of unseen side of railroading :)
GREAT VIDEO AWESOME VIDEO and your INFORMATION and thoughts are very helpful THANK you AGAIN FOR your VIDEO and your TIME HAVE a GREAT day JIM KAMMERER OF PHILADELPHIA PA THANK you AGAIN 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Good video the other issue is track. Combine horsepower, weight and tourque leads to issues like broken rails I'm sure the crew knows this. Gingerly, like walking on eggs. 🐧
Totally agree
I bet when the station was active. The b&o was a very busy line. I am glad they are saving the station. I hope you go to Germany and catch the Steam fest. When this virus is over. And hopefully Oktoberfest for the food, and the beer too. And the trains!!!!
Beer!
Cool video 👍
Another awesome video.
For all of the glory, romance and lure of railroading, it is still just a pickup and delivery service😃😃😃
The original UPS!! Lol
Great switching video!!!
Nice man thanks for sharing be safe and god bless
Like playing Tower of Hanoi. Can go back n forth a half dozen or a dozen times to arrange the cars.
New just joined. Liked the video and personal content. Thanks for sharing.
Oooooohhhh, 5014.....my favorite engine on the tracks.
Hello Mr. Jaw Tooth,
Thanks for a nice video, How is the Family have not seen them tell them that I said Hi and have a great day. Mr. Ed
Thank you, I will
That was interesting. Always great videos!
Glad you like them!
Man did that take them awhile of going back and forth moving all the tanker cars around. I can see why it takes a lot of time on the railroad now.
great video liked 🚄🚄👍
Thanks Jaw Tooth love your channel keep it up
Hi jawtooth. What are the 3 main customers on this branch? Interested to know. Thanks
Wonderful video of shunting or switching! I like high hood nose more like GP38 TENNESSEE VALLEY ALBANA GEORGIA BLUE OR SOUTHERN LOCO
Good evening from SE Louisiana 16 May 22.
Loved this video. I got an ignorant question for any railroader out there ... do they go ahead and drain all the air from the cars before they start shuffling? It doesn't seem like the brakeman always turns the angel cocks to off position. I notice as soon as they couple to shuffle they start rolling and moving right off the bat ... implying there are no brakes set up. If they drain the air I suppose only the loco provides braking? Just curious.
I like how you do your shows and yes 100 plus year old abandoned tracks
Demand life it's sad 😢 to see what built this country
Go to waste. Transportation buff's like you keep it alive
Thanks Tony!
That's where the real work is on a railroad. Having said that, a lot of unnecessary moves and too much walking. In my day before radios for the brakemen and gizmo's that tightened/loosened hand brakes, you rode the cars or engine and used hand signals during the day and lanterns at night. You safely boarded/stepped off while the engine/rolling stock was moving and saved lot of walking. But I guess this guy does it his own way. Leesburg. Like the name. Sounds 19th century. Railroad Street: when city planners do the obvious in naming streets.....
Totally lost track of which cars were arrivals and which were takeaways. Will just have to watch it again. Paying attention next time! And again, and again ...
Awesome 👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎 video
zo,at last raedy, job done. thanks again Brian.greetz:Peer. have a nice day.
boy that manufacturer made that switching a pain.
We have same exact orange with black stripes EMD Locomotives here in Portland, Oregon, running class B railway. Same details, same 0 injuries symbol, only difference is the letters, here it's PNWR or PWWR.
Genesee & Wyoming is the owner of these short lines and a bunch of other ones all over the USA and in Australia. They use the same paint scheme on their other lines
@@JawTooth Yep, at first I thought we only have these here in Pacific Northwest and I was shocked to see same paint scheme out on East coast. But made sense after doing a little research and getting a confirmation from you made more sense.
Genesee & Wyoming also own Freightliner here in the UK, plus in Poland and Germany too. The locos here are gradually being painted orange
Great video!
good rail action
Excellent Video Jaw Tooth
