This is just great for anyone who loves trains and locomotives. I’ve always thought when did the engineers and designers come together to produce the modern locomotive look which hit all the marks. I see the DDA40X was it! Whoever the design team was they should definitely be in the engineering/design hall of fame.
I like the caboose on the end of the freight train Long ago the caboose was one of my favorite things about the freight train I miss the caboose and a freight train just is n t a train without a caboose
The DD40X is my favorite loco even though UP isn't my favorite road. Just look at it. Minimal (if any) computers. I got to stand next to one at IRM and it still is impressive. Hard to believe at some point in the past giants like it and the big blows roamed the Earth. Thanks for sharing full chapters. Do you ever run sales on your webpage? @ 5:25... does anyone know why the roots blower was so much more reliable than a regular turbocharger... in later years, a LOT of regular turbo charged equipped engines were rebuilt with the turbocharger REMOVED... man those turbochargers must have been straight junk
Turbochargers keep spinning long after the engine is shut down causing excessive wear due to no oil supply. Then the worn bearings leak oil into the system causing fires.
@@25mfdRoots blowers don't work at high altitude. They basically push air. Turbochargers work at all elevations and can compress air increasing what's called volumetric efficiency. I am not really that good at physics or engineering but turbos became the standard because of the altitude thing and also because a blower requires energy from the engine and turbos use heat expansion from the exhaust therefore not creating a parasitic drain on the engine.
