  • Rare Railroad In Ohio! Tiny Engine Gets A Work Out! Pulling Heavy Duty Freight Cars On Dupps Railroad! CSX Interchange In Carlisle Ohio To Germantown, Ohio Part 2. Can This Tiny Critter Pull Those Huge Railroad Cars The Full 5 Miles?! Find Out! Dupps Railroad ships rendering machines that they manufacture in Germantown. Rendering is extracting biologic parts from carcasses. Thats how we get things like bone mean and tallow.
This is a private 5 mile railroad operated by its owner. The track is mostly 127 pound welded rail rolled in 1950. This is an ex mainline railroad that was used until 1984. After the line closed, most of it was immediately removed. A few sections still remain including this one. I have videos showing several other segments that still remain.
I have always wanted to video a train going over this line and finally got one. I got this one in both directions. This is Part 2 showing the tiny end cab locomotive trying to take 2 railroad cars from Carlisle, Ohio to end of line at Germantown, Ohio to be loaded at their plant. Part 1 shows the locomotive running from Germantown to Carlisle lite. The train only runs about 5mph. It has to stop at a couple of large railroad bridges to open and shut gates at both ends of the bridges.
This statement comes directly from the Dupps website at Dupps.com : "For over eighty-five years, the Dupps Company has been the worldwide leader in providing high-quality rendering equipment and service to the animal byproducts and protein recycling industry. Today, we’re expanding our role - applying our capabilities and experience to include process systems and service to industries that are key to the sustainability of our environment and our world."
I do have a few other videos of Dupps. See my video that shows a Dupps train doing some railroad switching in Germantown with loads on their private cars. The video shows what they ship across the line. The train came out across a public railroad crossing and shoved back into the plant. See the link below. I also have a video that shows a new railroad siding being added to their railroad yard a couple years ago.
This video shows the little locomotive running through the Ohio countryside on its way north after running south to the CSX interchange. I am told the locomotive is a General Electric 25 ton end cab switcher. It is 150HP diesel electric with no transmission. I am told the numbers mean it was the 517th one built and it was built in 1970. If anyone else has more info let me know and I will add it. This is a rare video and Part 1 was posted last week. You don't want to miss that unique video! The link is below. This video is the rarest video that I have ever made. It is more rare than my Iowa Traction Railway videos and my Big Boy steam locomotive videos from Utah. Filming this train was at the top of my wish list.
Filmed Tuesday, September 5, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

Brian, haven't been to this one but I find it funny that the trains and places you and I look at without ever running into one another, are our everyday trains to us, but thousands of people are interested in them, too, from around the world. Thanks for teaching me to appreciate what is here in Ohio more.

This line was the former Cincinnati Northern, later New York Central (CCC&StL), Penn Central, Conrail, not DT&I as mentioned. Actually the Cincinnati Northern Wikipedia page provides a good history of this line. This Dupps line is also referred to as Germantown Rail Siding. Thanks

Not former DT&I. DT&I never ran over this line.
Former Cincinnati Northern, CCC&STl, NYC, PC, CR.
It originally ran to Jackson , Michigan.
Severed north of Ansonia , OHIO just after PC.
PC/CR ran this as a brachline/bypass line until 1982/83. Only the southern most 5 miles are still down. Some tracks remain in Greeneville.

Real good info. Did you work for the railroad? I grew up in West Manchester and it broke my heart when they tore this line out and one that went through east to west with a diamond right near my house. The two lines were also connected by a wye track. Amtrak used the east and west for a brief time.

  • @WilliamD.Hazlett-cr4gm
    @WilliamD.Hazlett-cr4gm 9 місяців тому +24

The critter was having problems moving the flat cars because CSX spotted them cars on the shortline's siding and "Tied them down" they had the hand brakes on, as soon as these guys figured it out, they were able to pull them out. The Big railroads always "Tie the cars down" to keep them from moving by vandals weather etc.

    • @mikewigim2864

I'm quite surprised that they actually managed to shift those two K-class flatcars with a 25-ton critter. Those are big, heavy cars, even empty; it looked like they had to manually disengage the brakes to actually get that giant pile of steel moving.
There's something unique about critters and just how amazing a tractive effort, proportionately, those tiny engines have. Ton for ton, they're some of the best pullers out there.

@@JawTooth Oh, I always love seeing critters in action. The big steamers and huge locos like the GEVo get all the glory, but these little locomotives do some of the hardest work, and a lot of industries and workshops still use them to shift small numbers of cars and locomotives around. It's really too bad that Dupps doesn't run much more regular trains; there's a lot of potential there.

More than likely, CSX will bring some regular locomotives to pull those loaded flat cars of rendering equipment to their main line, because the Dupps switcher locomotive wouldn't have the strength to pull those loaded flat cars to the main line. It barely had to pull those flat cars empty. I hope3 you can catch the load being pulled out of there once the flat cars are loaded. Interesting video of a seldom used railroad siding.

I grew up in Germantown I remember the big ones rolling through town.
Info The Depot in the park used to set wear the post office is today, it was relocated and set beside the Historic "1870" Bowspring Covered Bridge spanning a Little Twin Creek ( the only of its kind ) with Community Support ,Weidle sand and gravel and guess who the Dupps Company The Depot was relocated to its now spot in Veterans Memorial Park. The Caboose was a donation by the Gentry Brothers of Germantown one still sits beside the drive-through on Jefferson Street the other was moved to Veteran's Memorial Park by Guess Who the Dupps Company.
If you further investigate the Caboose on Jefferson Street ( the drive-thru) there is another tracks that run north from Market Street South those two big barns used to be tobacco barns the tracks are under gravel until you get to the drive-thru where the caboose and that wheel stop.... Year and Year ago there was an actual little Ice House that set up beside the tracks....Damn I just feeling Old! 😃😆😭😁🐂

That line was not DTI. It was Conrail, and before that Penn Central, and before that New York Cental and before that Cincinnati Northern and before that.. well, you get my point. But never DTI.

The only cooler (where have I heard the word “cool” before, lol) video is to catch the Dupps locomotive on that long bridge with the trees and their leaves in their Autumn color glory!! Then, blow up the bridge and watch the engine fall into the water much like the Bridge on the River Kwai!!

Wow! Great video Jawtooth. Something you dream of, catching a train running on a little used track. Did you find out why they couldn't get those wagons to move at first? Brakes, chocks or just rusted on? Those two bridge scenes were the best! Thanks for sharing with us.

Imagine how much harder it works when they are loaded with new rendering equipment.
