Short Line Railroad Switching, One Switcher Vs Boxcars At Huhtamaki Batavia, Ohio
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- American short line railway switching and shunting on the Huhtamaki Industrial Spur. One small switcher locomotive working a long cut of boxcars and covered hopper cars. Also the train passes Sardinia and Mount Orab Ohio after working Huhtamaki in Batavia, Ohio. First we see the train working the industrial sidings for Huhtamaki and Mount Carmel Group located at the old Ford plant in Batavia, Ohio. They also had to get one load of scrap metal from Cohen Recycling that had been sitting on a siding in Sardinia. So after they switched out the plants in Batavia, they added a B36-7 to the rear of the train and we see them passing Sardinia to get the scrap metal gondola car. Next we see the train coming back through Mount Orab, Ohio after picking up the gondola car but this time the General Electric B36-7 is leading. They were en route to the Norfolk Southern interchange at Clare Yard in Mariemont, Ohio. Don't miss the outro with the dogs playing in the sandbox and the slide show with pictures from this video. Filmed Friday, May 28, 2021. Thanks for watching! Please thumbs up and watch another JawTooth video to help my channel.

These SW-1200's remind me of my childhood, when we lived across from Dodge Main Engine in Hamtramack, I would spend weekends just watching the SW switch up and switch boxcars, best entertainment a 4 year old could get. Thanks Jaw Tooth.
You doing outstanding job keep up the good work and your daughter is a very good helper God bless that young lady
Awesome too watch a great video Jaw Tooth watching now and enjoying it too like the locomotive 🚂 😎👌👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️ awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it
Even the juvenile delinquents were more respectful back in the 1970s and 1980s!
Way to go, Jaw Tooth! A totally entertaining video of one of my favorite railroads. No one covers this type of action like you, and it’s always fun to watch the MP15 at work. Can’t beat it.
Thanks again!
Jawtooth i love your videos!they are fast not wade down in superfluous nonsense. And they are highly informative. I love your descriptions they always answer my question and curiosities! Thanks big dog!
Crossed over the Pea Vine several times on the 28th and drove past that very location in Mt Orab. Told the wife how cool would it have been to have seen you there videoing.
In the 70s and 80s do you remember seeing, I believe it was, “Herbie.” A line drawing of a guy with a big sombrero sitting under a palm tree. They say the artist could draw it in just a few seconds. He was a Carman working in a rail yard.
Yes I do remember that. I had forgotten about it
Missouri Pacific @ Dupont IL. Up in Chicago it was ZZ Proviso and there was the front of a loco with Bellevue O
It's cool that your couplers can both couple cars and work as buffers. And they can take a lot of abuse, clearly. Here in the UK we have buffers and couplers. We do have buckeyes but they aren't used much.
Great Report Mr. Jaw Tooth! Ahh but wait! There is mooore! 💤💤💤😂. Thank you very much!
More to come!
Very Cool!!! Thanks for posting!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Good morning from SE Louisiana 1 Jun 21.
The third and fourth boxcars in that train are owned by the Crab Orchard and Egyptian Railroad (COER) which (a) has a fantastic name; (b) was the last steam-powered Class III in the USA. They didn't retire their last steam locomotive until 1986!
Why are they named that they are in Illinois not Egypt?
@@bootsdocsandconspiracies6589 Apparently, southern Illinois is known as "Little Egypt". The specific reasons seem rather fanciful to me, but there was a lot of desire in the then recently-independent USA to anchor their civilization to something from the past. They didn't want to model themselves on European colonial powers, so they went back to classical times. You see a lot of places in the US called Carthage, Cairo, Syracuse, Athens, Rome, Ravenna (a capital of the late Roman empire), Sparta, Lebanon, and so on. They're mostly named because people admired those civilizations, not because the city was founded by a bunch of people from there.

And your co-host is GREAT....
BOY, are you lucky she didn't try to play a joke on you in the scene with you asleep! I wouldn't put it past her!
Very good capture Jaw, liked it 😉👏👏👍
Good Morning Jawtooth!!
I love all of your videos and stories on UA-cam on trains everyday they are good train videos and stories.
Thank you very much!
Every time I see a switcher, it kind of reminds me of train youtubers.
Southern Pacific was famous for running switch engines here in California when i was kid I lived on Floradora street in Fresno ,,them old S6 and SW1200 would pull 50 loaded cars solo down the Clovis branch line right in front of my house. The San Joaquin valley RR still uses that line I should film it and post it. That line hasn't changed in over 100 years. I remember pulling up date nails from ties that were 1918 dtd 😉😉
I really enjoy your train videos I happen love trains
Some dark skies in the background ⛈
I always give the thumbs up upon starting the video. I've never been disappointed. It's been at least a month since I've watched a rail cam video. They don't have the human touch somehow. Thank you for doing these.
Wow, thank you! I try to move around a little and tell ppl what is going on.
I'm looking at those clouds.
Thanks for the cool video Mr J.T. The switching and the graffiti was cool. ZA
And jaw tooth and that's cool train when doing switching ❤😊
We like the short line! Poor MP-15, too busy to get cleaned up :) Great action - the crew was working that day!
Love the harmonic horn!
Good morning Jaw Tooth.
Love the trains in the rain,,what a great job to have huh?
You got that right!
That sky was threatening a big thunderstorm on that day - no need to get struck by lightening at any time...
Every time I hit a rail crossing, I’m looking for Jaw Tooth!
Yeah, me too
Great video; everytime we watch one of your videos, it makes our day. Thank you for what you do to bring these wonderful videos to our home.
Our pleasure!
I love hearing the slack action..and the sounds of the engines reving up..I used to like watching and counting cars, but now when I do I get motion sick. Lol
Same here!
Nice horn, interesting consist. Liked.
Many thanks!
Nice video to watch and relax with after dinner, thanks.
The cute little yard switcher has it going on!!
Nice work Brian.
Thanks 👍
🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃 I LIKE THE LITTLE SWITCHING TRAIN AND THE BIG TRAIN TO 🚃🚃 I LOVE THE VIDEO'S YOUROCK JAW TOOTH.
Amazing videos jaw tooth keep up the good work
Thanks
The wheels are a squealing, the hose is a airing, The couplers are a coupling and the pistons are uuuuhhhhh! working! Laughs!
Good video nice dogs
Well, if I didn't love your videos before this one then adding the kids really made it for me. 100% for cute and as always, 100% for interesting videos.
Wow, thank you!
I remember back in the late 60's into the 70's the only graffiti on the cars was chalk that the railroad employees put on them. Sometimes I would see Kilroy was here. These days the entire car can be painted. Most of it I have no idea what it says.
Another great video!
Wow! This video had more, more, more, more and more! Funny when you're daughter popped out from behind the chair, ha! Great stuff as usual. That switcher got a workout there today. Really enjoy watching all your videos.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Seems like the more "Like" buttons I hit, the more commercials I have to sit through. Aside from that, I really enjoy the videos.
Thanks!
A friend said to me “you always watch those videos by that guy Lockjaw, don’t you?”LOL
I demand a LockPickingLawyer/Jaw Tooth crossover!
Excellent coverage of the switching operation.
Nice vid, went through Trenton last weekend, a lot of trains
Very nice!
That MP 15 is so cool 😎. It does however have one of the most annoying air horns. Oh well, it makes you take notice
I loved the old truck on the other side of the tracks at the last location.
Cool to see an old GE still operating!
The 5857 train with the american flag by the window looks familiar. I have seen it in alot of the videos but reminds me of a train I saw as a kid in Souderton Pa that looked like that. The train in souderton Pa was a CSX.
I bet those rails were shining after all that action. I was over there a couple of weeks ago and you can tell they work that siding heavy. Those rails shined more than the main line
That is the shiniest place for rails on the whole system. I got to talk to one of the new guys for a couple minutes. He is from a part of Kentucky near where I went to college and not far from my dads area when he was little. That was cool
Amazing Video!
I have 1 of those scanners ... Haven't programmed it yet ...It would be strange not to see graffiti on train cars now ... Good vid Son ... Chessie being Chessie ... Sweet dog ...
What is the model number of that scanner
Ole 2414 worked it's butt off today
Nice video jawtooth !
Another nice video son!
Thanks again!
If you look at videos in the late 20th Century, you did not see much Graffiti. Remember how bad the NYC subways were 40 years ago or so? Now I believe they have cleaned up their rolling stock. I did read in Trains magazine that railroads were working on a paint to apply to their rolling stock that would help eliminate Graffiti.
I just got my latest issue of Trains! It is sitting in front of me right now and I'm just getting ready to open it. lol
great
Love the reporting marks you see on this short line COER Crab Orchard and Egyptian Railway, AOK Arkansas-Oklahoma Railroad you do not see these on many sites.
I think I saw Shoestring go by.
Takin up the slack
It's been great long day Brian 😊
‘Bit long there, son. But, interesting and fun. Wooo!
I didn't think they had that much switching to do. When I first got there I thought it would be quick but I was way wrong
The graffiti is a result of kids having nothing better to do these days along with a disrespect for the property of others.
I think you are right but I dont think it helps when guys like Shoestring who in all other ways enjoy and respect railroads also feel it necessary to leave tags on buildings and railroad cars. I love the guy and his videos but the tagging really irks me
@@teeny61 I've always wondered where do they kids actually graffiti the rail cars especially as detailed some of it is that takes time. Do they do this when the cars are parked or in the yards?
These days? If anything "kids" are doing it less now because they're glued to their iPad screen. You can't blame everything on "kids these days"
Nice dark rain 🌧 clouds ☁️ on the horizon. ☔️. Oh! By the way.... what’s rain? Here in Vegas we recently went 273 days without any rain.
Seriously.
wow, that would be cool! I can't stand always having my feet wet. Its raining here right now
Start the video Son !
Good Day buddy, always great work. Gotta get you up here for a rail fan day (you know, once the Vid has calmed down)
Thanks 👍
So cool. I love those livery’s.
How sqeeky those rail boxcar brakes are!
When there was railroad tracks next to my parents house up until 1984-85 I never saw any graffiti painted on boxcars
There actually using a lot of paint and time to do that artworks
its a grey sky, rain is coming in.

I like Shoreline R
railroads
Notice some of the box cars are talled than others... does the customers request what cars including sized of car they need besides how many? Or are they given what cars are available?
There are various standard car sizes in terms of height and also length. I believe customers just request the size they need and they'll either get that or something bigger, depending on what's available.
wooow,nice Volkswagen busje.
Great video as usual. Any activity yet on the establishment of a new Purina plant???
Yes, they are constructing the huge building right now. This is a mega developement
@@JawTooth Thanks for the update.
Hi Brian! Are those 2 NS locomotives still around? Any update?
Yes they are. They are still stored on the east end of Sardinia on the passing siding
@@JawTooth Wow! Thank you.
This Eugene Kleis hello jaw tooth train man good how are you and your family friends doing today
I had found out trains
Nice Video
🚂🚂🇮🇳🚂🚂
Thanks Taslim!
I seen.the.dogs.australia❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hey jaw tooth love the video and I’ve made another train video for you
I'm glad they painted over those ugly numbers on the engine looked like a kid did it lol
So when do they take the cars our to Sardenia wouldn't it make more sense to leave them than go get the car at Cowen than pick them up. Or go to Cowen first than switch Huhtamaki & Mt.Carmel than to Clare Yard last.
How far has this consist got to go to Interchange with NS?
Mariemont, Ohio about 21 miles from Huhtamaki
What does three step applied mean?
Great vid, JT! How often do they switch this plant? First time I've seen them switch covered hoppers here...how often do they mess with those?
They switch Huhtamaki about 2 or 3 times a week. The covered hoppers go to Mount Carmel Group which is next to Huhtamaki
@@JawTooth Ah, ok...didn't realize there were 2 customers at that spot. Thanks for answering my question!
Hey Jawtooth. Can you tell me the name of that radio? I couldn’t make out what the name and model was. Thanks
Baofeng UV6R
Thanks
What I like to know where the get the money to by all those spray cans let alone the time to do it . Contrary to believe it’s not just teenagers that graffiti.
Paint isn't that expensive and the time is just what anybody devotes to their hobby.
@@beeble2003 I beg to differ you haven’t bought a spray can lately over $5 a pop and it doesn’t last long. Hobby ha during Covid they think it’s there right to deface property (statues, walls etc.)
@@davidfoubert1493 You haven't bought a beer lately. Over £5 a pop and it doesn't last that long. And how do people find the time to spend all night in a bar drinking them? I mean, really, it doesn't require any imagination to understand how somebody can have enough money and enough time to do graffiti. And, no, this has nothing whatsoever to do with covid. Graffiti is not something that has been invented in the last 18 months.
To be clear, I'm not advocating for graffiti. I generally like the more artistic types of graffiti; I dislike tagging. Not liking the look of graffiti is a completely valid opinion but your other objections are utterly bogus.
Okay so this is probably a dumb question, but when you get to a railroad how do you figure out what frequency they are on ? Great video by the way 👍
Before I go I look it up on radioreference.com or I ask other railfans. If I don't know the frequency I use another one of my radios that has all of the standard railroad frequencies in it and as soon as they transmit I lock in the frequency. Most of the places that I go to I already know the frequency just from programming them in so many times. I got my first scanner in 1975 and got the first programmable pocket scanner around 1980. I have always taken them with me no matter where I go even when I worked for the health department.
@@JawTooth Oh cool, never heard of radioreference, I figured you've been doing this for a while and had all the tricks of the trade.
Thanks for the reply... sorry for the delay, I work too much, in fact I just came from Ohio, I did a run to Cleveland, I know your from that state.
Excuse me while I go watch another JawTooth video right now. "But wait, theres more, always is ! "
Is that a real van with the flag painted on it?
i have 2 baofengs,lol. frequency 160.060 Brian?
No, CCET uses 160.860
@@JawTooth okikidooo,i gonna listen there from mine locatio with a baem antenna.
Looks like an attempt was made on the boxcar behind the engine to remove graffiti. Yes, it's a problem not just on railroad rolling stock but other private and public property. Should never have developed spray can paint. lol.
Doesn't seem it matters to the railroads as long as the reporting mark and car # is still visible.
I ment to type
Thanks for being here so fast!
