I’ve got wastegate rattle and am currently deciding wether to get a pure turbo single turbo kit .. or get some refurb original turbos.. what would you suggest? I’ve just put a new charge pipe in and it’s metal, was that a good move or should I of got oe? Sorry I’m blabbing on a bit.. your a absolute legend and a god to the bmw community on UA-cam! I’ve shared this vid on my social media and have many friends with n54s who are all gonna sub as I’ll be badgering them to! Diamond geezer keep up the amazing work and good to have you back !

I bought an '08 535i. First beemer. I did a lot of research on the car before I bought it. I also found a certified BMW guy who has his own shop. Had him inspect the car and he gave it the all clear minus a few maintenance items. The only thing I've paid for that I didn't know about when I bought it was an AC compressor. It's got 147,000 miles. It runs like a dream. But I keep up my maintenance and I live in FCP Euro. Not once have I regretted the money I've put in it. I've got a few more things to do and she will be damn near perfect for a 12 year old car.

I have a P2096, post catalytic converter fuel trim bank 1 too lean.. any suggestions or tips on what it could be, how to check and if i should fix it myself or take it to a mechanic? 2009 bmw 334i sedan

So how do you feel about the N54 being being turbo-charged and direct injected? Just asking your opinion if you think it was a smart move from a reliability standpoint. I'm honestly a bigger fan of port injection and natural aspiration.
its a very very good engine and can be reliable but as its forced induction more pressure on the engine and gaskets means more leaks and more to fail but overall I do like this engine alot I like all the N series engines if im honest

Hello Doctor, I have some issues with my Z4 35i. Car starts smoothly and runs good then after a few minutes of driving I get all kinds of PT-CAN errors. DME CD87 pt-can communication fault. EGS CF12 CF13 CF14 CF15 CF1F Transmission. EKPS 6293 control current too high. DSC 5f10., EPS D507. D387. Do you have any idea of what is causing this? Is your $50/monthly will explain this problem?
What's a good temp for the n54 engine, mine runs at stable 110-120
Recalls in the US are issued differently than other countries. Recall here unless voluntary by a manufacturer have to be ordered by the government. My example to this is the passenger SRS system recall experienced elsewhere is now ordered here. This is for my 2000 (2000-2001) 3 series, my case 323i.

My Mech did an oil change. He changed the oil grade to 10 w 60 castrol super car. Is this bad ?
You forgot about thee best n54, the z4 35i! Made all the way to 2014/15 most refined and reliable. Know someone with 800hp no issues crazaay

I had a vanos solenoid problem, cleaned and didn't help but then I washed those 30min in ultrasonic and since they have been working
I had an e90 N54 that was previously abused and the first week I got it. I did a pull onto the freeway and the chargepipe exploded on me. It was a loud pop and I thought I detonated the engine at first.
Oh no matter what oem charge pipe will break just aftermarket aluminum chargepipe
Getting a knock sensor low input code that puts me in limp when I give medium- hard accel, clear code and then it seems to be okay until it sits overnight again. Is this MOSFETs?? Thanks for vid
Have new vanos, no tune on engine
Everything replaced in my N54 mostly at dealer under warranty. Great video! I do a lot of my own maintenence too but trying to figure out a long crank now. Injectors not leaking (replaced leaking ones on 2 and 3 that caused coughing and choking starts) . Replaced lpfs. What would I try to check next sir?

Love the video. Never saw the sense in being cheap with these engines. We know they are going to need all this stuff...treat it right and it will go forever but it will cost $$$.

I removed my intake manifold today and discovered oil patches around head gasket just below intake ports

Already replaced waterpump, camshaft position sensor, and I got misfire cylinder 3 & 4 currently on my n54 lol its all on pause cause struggles running strong at 78k though still bone stock as can be
Great info about the laundry list of problems, the question is , is this enging a pain in the ass and much more expensive to upkeep then a n52b30. I think the answer is yes, if you are looking for a reliable engine wouuld this problaly not be the one?

if you dont really care about speed den the E90 328i they carry the N52/N53 varient engines. If i want a fast car den opt for the E90 335i jus have your pockets ready

My 2A7 was caused by a faulty cam angle sensor.

I hate people say the n54 is realibly just because there car is, if every n54 owner had horrible problems then it would be as bad as the m5 v10
thats because they never bought a cheap ragged around piece of crap
if you want a decent one you need to pay for a decent one dont go for the cheapest one you can find cheapest means its going to be the crappiest car you will ever have
everyone says the N52 is unreliable in the usa but mine aint lol mine is a perfect example of a well looked after one it wasn't when I got it BUT I put the money and time into it to make it what it is
but in the USA you guys will drive anything along as it has that badge regardless what defects it has you guys buy cars with engine blown where here nobody would ever sell that in a lifetime here
here we make sure it has fun history and been looked after otherwise we dont buy very simple
but alot of you are eager to have what your friends or what you see others have and expect the same you also want to try maintain it as cheap as possible and with all N series engines they wont tolerate or allow cheap parts thank the lord
