    The timing of this video is unreal! I'm collecting my 2008 e60 tomorrow. I seen all these receipts in the service history and was wondering why there was so much work done( pumps etc) but I think I'm lucky that almost everything on your list has been done! 👌🏼 cant wait to collect it.

      cat d is fine mate nothing major if your not planning to sell it then no reason not to buy it for my purposes I wouldnt touch any categorised cars
      but if your not in the trade you have no reason to fear
      cat d can end up better then a car thats been on the road all its life because being a cat d it may have been off the road for months if not years and it wont have much rust or much mileage which means not much to go wrong

      BMW Doctor went to go see the car after... oil was mixed in the coolant and on INPA the cylinders 456 where reading low and 123 was hitting the reds. Was walking away the right decision? (Still stuck with my N43 and he will still do a straight swap) car drives just running really bad.

    The engine update you mention on the last item. I purchased my car a 630lci 2008 with n53 engine. "is there a check that can be done to see if its been done and if not how can I contact you?

    @BMW Doctor, do you know if outside of UK it is possible to check with recall were applied to the car? I've been recalled for injectors in 2010, but around same time when HPFP failed, had to pay for it which seems now to be a scam given it was part of recall.
    Any details would be more than welcome - thanks!

    Hi Doc Dean, thanks for posting all these videos. I've gone through so many in the last few days. I will be contacting you via email in the next couple weeks to get my car updated. I'm UK London based. Bought an 07 N52 2.5l e92 manual with 107k, getting the steering pump and rocker cover gasket and ofhg done for £350 first.. Done the recall a few days ago

    Did BMW place the modified fuelpump, injectors and waterpump on the late 2012/2013 N53 cars allready? Or do they have the same parts as the first models with this engine?

    I’ve recently purchased an N53 engined 630i.
    It has a very strong of petrol under the bonnet in and around the manifold.
    It there common issue that this might be?

    Hi! Very informative video. Thanks!! Is there known problems with the timing chain/guides on this engine? I have a rattle at idle when engine is thoroghly warm(no cold start rattles) also some clattering at warm start when car has stood still 10--15min. When i rev the engine gently there is a metallic ticking that follows the revs. The sound is most prominent if i prod the throttle so revs go up to 2-3k rpm- on the way down theres a clear ticking/rattle. This NOT injector tic.

    Hello mate I got 08 plate BMW X6 3L turbo diesel for about £130 exchange high pressure fuel pump and fitted it myself so if ya shop around you can pick them up cheap BMW wanted £1500 plus fitting around the same TOTAL 3k cool vid bro ,,!! From Euro Car Parts i got FUEL pump

    I hve 57 plate e90 325i wich curently has rough idle with engine check light but doesnt seem to have lost anypower. My mate done diagnostic with hand held and he said its the secendary o2 sensors? Does tbis sound right before i go ahead and buy new ones or is there any other routes i can go down to find the problem before hand

    Hi, is it possible to update my bmw ecu? Believe its on the old one and also if you could diagnose a few faults. I. Getting no eml come on however I have done most of the stuff in the video. New injectors all 6, coils, spark plugs, nox sensor, the oil leak near the fuel filter. Im thinking it may be disa.

      Hi mate yeah I remember mate but I don’t go out to people mate most stuff I do is all remotely done mate I can do it all remotely so there is no need for me to move travelling and all that isn’t for me mate

    Direct Injection requires good quality fuel at all times. US/AUS/NZ have higher sulphur content in our regular 91 and 95 fuels. However, here in NZ we have a high octane 98 fuel that is imported especially for high performance cars and it is for this reason I use it my own E90 330i N52

    Just found a pretty cheap 328i 3.0L Sportpack from 10/2011 (~50k Miles)
    What u think about it ?
    I drive daily and ~12k Miles a year

    Great vid for the N53 Dean, all issues I have done with BMW parts. One of my other pet hates is the damn seat belt arm that passes the seat belt, easy fix though. Keep up the cracking vids. Still the one stop Chanel for BMW info and knowledge 👍

    Hi Doc, thanks for this video, but for me too late😂 Already bought 325i xdrive 2010. This engine is real enigma. Check engine light is constant, first cold start is terible, rough idle, the whole car is shaking, after few kilometres everything is normal, running smoothly. Exhaust is black from smoke, no one knows whats the problem. I changed nox sensor, coils, sparks, the same. It reported missfire on 4th cylinder, change the injector, missfire is now on 5th. Sometimes is cranking very long, it struggles to start. I want to purchase new injectors, but I'm afraid that the problem will not be sloved. If you have some advice, please share. I'm losing hope that I can fix this engine.

    Hey man how much would a total update be? I have a slight rough idle when first starting you see and everything updated sounds good. Would it count as a remap for insurance purposes? Would I need to buy stuff for you to do it remotely? Or are you based near London? Cheers mate

    i live in Germany and i recently bought an LCI BMW 330i with the N53B30 and i had and rough running problem.
    My dealer changed all 6 Injectors sparkplugs and ignition coils - now its better :)
    but i want to update my software to the newest one like u said at 11:50.
    i recently ordered a obd2 to usb adapter. i will get inpa for my laptop, but how can i update my car?
    is this even possible?

    Hey Doc, wondering if I can pick your brain for a minute. I started my x3 the other day, didn't drive more than a minute when it shut off... so I pulled over and it wouldn't restart - had the EML light on. So I walked back home with my daughter and discovered all the engine oil on my driveway. Upon inspection 1/2 the oil filter cap had exploded off and all the oil blasted out and made a mess of the left side of the motor (left hand drive - Driver's side - intake side). So I buy a new cap, and new oil... clear the codes - had a over retarded + o2 sensor code. Started it --- Long crank then start - dies... restart - dies... restart.... Runs like crap at about 580rpm. Had a strange rattle sound like someone shaking a spray paint can. So I let it idle - eventually it came up to 800 or so. Eventually I drove it home but anything more than light throttle and it bogs down with a muffled puffing sound. So I'm thinking Oil has contaminated something. I cleaned out the vanos solenoids and cleaned all the connectors. Then it showed code p0341... Cam Position Sensor A bank 1. - should be intake. So I cleaned the connector for that as well as checked the wires.
    I notice that oil had spilled onto that electrical connection under the intake manifold, I think it's a 2 wire - whatever that is down there.
    Final notes: Starts up after about 4+ seconds of cranking... which isn't normal... usually starts right away. Runs cold about 800+ rpm then climbs up to 1100 after a few seconds - then back to about 500 - 600 once it's up to temp. Beyond that it seems to idle fine. If I rev it, it will bog down like a pufffy intake sound, if I put it in gear it won't move if I apply throttle it will bog.
    Any ideas are appreciated. I'm thinking oil is in an electrical connector someplace... Car was running fine before this so I don't see how a sensor could have been damaged from the low oil level.

    Nice one Dr Dean 🤛🏼 But is there a way to tell if we've had the update or not!? I searched for ages for a video of changing an N53 rocker but couldn't find one, probably cos of what you said. Anyway pressed on regardless and got it done. Coil packs and plugs while at it. Since then was all gravy until suddenly stopped. Turns over but nothing. Fuel pump? Jumped Chain? Any advice mate very helpful. Are you in London?

      Supposed to be going into BMW for 2 recalls in 2 weeks. Battery terminal and blower regulator... But it won't move. You never mentioned the chains in your vid, are they solid?

    Hi Dean Im running a 330ci E46 at the moment and was considering changing up to the E92 330i until I saw your vid ###. Is it still a good move over staying with the E46? I do all my own servicing an the E46 without any major drama so not afraid to tackle the mechanics on the E92 but my expertise stops here. Are you UK based in case your services are needed?

    Hi I know this vid is a year ago now, but could you please help me update my e92 n53 module? Its done 160k miles now, Ive changed many parts its running fine, but a slight miss fire, it dose need ignition coils and sparks doing them soon, always watch your vids got a lot of info from you its real appreciated, if you can help update module it will be appreciated thanks 👍

    Just had to change the long life plugs on mine as it was rough idling. Mechanic said because it is direct injection go for the higher octane fuel (if affordable)

    Is there anything you would check ?, like any sensors or anything ? Seems strange that out of the blue and on the start of the car it would break ?, plugs and coils are ok, but 5 and 6 down apparently and loud tick and shaking ?, if it is lifter stuck is this expensive job mate ? Is there anything I can check or do to try resolve or is it done ? Thankyou

    Really hope you can help me!!! My n52 e90 has now been low on coolant twice in the past 2 weeks. Car isn’t smoking and there’s no sign of a leak. I changed the oil about a month ago and there was no sign of coolant in the oil either. Any ideas? Could it be the dreaded water pump?

    hey doc, i need some advice i hope you see this ... we have an x3LCI N52N (THA) bmw it was rough idling/missing, it would cut out at random times and rough changing gears to where it would almost push you forward in the seat as well. We took it to a mechanic here ... he checked it none of those things happened with him... he said he only got a light miss... diagnosed it and said it was the MAF and the rough changing was the cross in the rear driveshaft took it out the garage drove great engine wise only thing was the rough change in gears. Ok, so 3 days later MAF is changed.. still rough changing have to import the driveshaft... but now on top of all that...it is back to rough idling/missing even worse.. 4x4 light keeps blinking off and on and the engine light came on recently. If you can atleast give us some idea about this id be grateful.

    2e85 electric coolant pump . communication
    2a0f egr valve . Adaption any help appreciated 😭

    Hello,
    I have a 2006 bmw 530xi. I keep getting the code P420 and P430. Lately my car is dragging and it won’t really accelerate. It’s really slow. Do you think it’s the catalytic converters or the oxygen sensor?

    Hello mate, I got an N53B30 on my car and I noticed that fuel consumption it went from 21-23 mpg to 14-15mpg could be because of the winter of something could be wrong with the engine. I’ve done full service in June last year ( almost 3500 miles ago ) spark plugs, oil, filters etc. I know on wintertime the consumption goes up but in my opinion, the difference is too much between 21mpg to 15mpg. Any suggestion? I got no errors everything looks fine. Many thanks, mate!

    Hey good evening @BMW Doctor I've got an issue with BMW 330ci 2006. It's got a battery drain so while I'm waiting to change the FSR on it I've decided to disconnect the battery. What's started to happen is once the battery is reconnected the car sometimes doesnt start, its turning over tho. Sometimes it starts then after a 10mins drive and turned off and you go to start it again it doesnt start. If you wait a while it decides to start again. Was thinking it could well be the fuel pump? But not sure.
    Any ideas? Will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

      No mate that is (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR)
      What is happening is when engine is COLD the car goes back into open loop
      When the car is hot it’s in closed loop which means the car won’t start as it’s trying to use the sensor to start which it can’t because the sensor is faulty

    My N53 engine seized about a week ago due to low oil pressure😢. It had some oil leaks back in march this year which I took to a bmw specialist and got it sorted. Fast forward in June I noticed the car consuming a lot of oil but this time on longer journeys like 2hours plus journeys. I had to refill the oil after every long journey. I contacted the bmw specialist who fixed the oil leaks back in march and he advised me to add an additive into the oil from Halfords. It was called stop leak. It was working okay until about two weeks ago the engine gave up on the M3 motorway. Had to call RAC to tow the car back home. The RAC guy said the engine had seized because he tried to spin the crankshaft and it was very still. He mentioned something to do with the timing chain as well. I’m probably now looking at an expensive repair or possibly an entire engine replacement

    I only know of a couple of people who had to get their HPFP replaced but they both said it only cost them £500 - £600 all in, including labour, rather than £1,300 - £1,400 just for the part.

    Hi Dean, I bought my 2008 325 3.0L N53 MSport september 22 with a dead water pump so got it cheap and had it transported back to London, water pump and thermostat replaced, now it drives however it has many of the issues you've listed. got a bunch of new parts, just replaced mass air flow sensor, 6 x NGK sparks, 6 x Bosch Coils now it fires up and runs better but am still getting engine management light on afetr few minutes with high speed fan running and engine fault warning message on screen, next to replace will be 2 x VANOS, engine oil flush, engine oil replace, new oil filter - then take it to BMW for a full diagnostic check to see why she runs fine but the "Engine fault" message appears with a high speed fan then contact you for that software update.
    Dean I've had BMW straight 6 naturally asperated cars for most of my life and to me "NOTHING BEATS THEM" I will crack on with your list of checks/fixes until my car is perfect because I know - once you look after these engines they pay you back 10 fold and the pleasure you get from driving a BMW - you just dont get from a Ford.

    HELP! This is a longshot but by BMW e60 is "lagging" when I hit some big bumps/speedbumps and the car acts like a crazed horse for a few seconds, I've changed the VANOS already but the problem is still there

      Happens in LOW REVS! And sometimes it can happen while im cruising in 80kmh and I hit a tiny bump, feels like the car taps the breaks almost but we've tested all of the breaks and abs systems etc and its nothing to do with that

    Great Video, as always. Very clear and informative. I do have two questions about it.I've got a N53B30 with almost 70k miles on it. My injectors were replaced before purchase. Would you advice to replace all the expensive parts ASAP ? HP fuel pump and water pump for example ? And what's the parts you mentioned at 9:30 ? I couldn't fully understand, I'm not British sorry :D

      I do have the n53b30a , 160k km with the original ones , i think they should run at least to 200k km

    Hi BMW DOCTOR,
    would you have any clue as to why a E46 330D 204bhp msport
    has smoke on start up and a rough idle ?
    glow plugs changed 5 bad
    crankcase breather changed
    both thermostats changed.
    only started to do this after exhaust manifold done.
    smoke on cold start up blue/white no smoke when warm?
    a slight whistle over 3000rpm
    any clues as to what it could be ?

    Last march my '08 525i died. Head gasket, coolant in cylinder #6, crack in cylinder top to bottem. Dealer maintained car with 120,000 miles. I now drive a Toyota Camry, no more BM Trouble UU 😮

    Iv got a 2010 e91 mate and its rough on start up but is fine once warmed up, any ideas? Also how do you tell if it's a n53 or n52?

      Calum Mchale N53 has black engine cover, N52 has white/ silver engine cover

      @@calummchale6145 also, your car is 2010, that means its 100% N53... the N52 fitted in the E90 gets replaced by the N53 after 2007 or 2008 i'm not sure .. so yeah, you got N53.

    I have an -08 E91 with the n53 3liter motor and I'm having misfire issues in cylinder 3. Spark plugs (NGK) and ignition coils (Bosch) have been changed but it's still happening. After changing the coils the misfire didn't happen for 2 days but then reappeared. I have ordered new injectors but I'm afraid it won't solve the issue... Any thoughts on this? I will try to explain the issue in detail:
    After starting the car there's no issues. I can drive for a good 15-20min before the symptoms appear. The check engine light will go on and the engine starts running roughly, rpm will start to fluctuate as well. When accelerating there's no power and the car noticeably shakes when slowly picking up speed. Idle is then also rough and rpm keeps fluctuating. Issue will not solve while the engine is hot, even if the car is turned off and back on the symptoms start immediately. Then the next day or after properly cooling down, the symptoms are gone again. As mentioned the only consistent error code I've received from the engine is P0303.
    I believe the injectors are still the original ones or at least very old. I haven't checked myself. I used a petrol system cleaner, the kind you pour in the gas tank, and I feel like it improved the situation slightly, so I'm hopeful that replacing the injectors will fix the issue but still afraid it doesn't. Any advice going forward?

    n52 vs n53 ? I am thinking between 525i (218hp) or 523i (190h). Which one of these would give me less headache and better fuel consumption?

      @@DjordjeSrpski i just got 39 mpg from exeter to essex in a e90 N53 325i with a faulty injector. If the car is running well i bet it would get more than 40 mpg. Turns out you can have good mpg and a fast 3.0 litre. thats why the stratified charge mode is such a pain to maintain!

      I drive a F10 528i N53 and got 7,0l / 100km at 130kph. Once the N53 is warm it consumes only droplets of fuel. Its surreal.

    This is crazy ! I have the E92 325i (175.000 km) and I have gone through every single problem you just mentioned for the last 2 years, exept for one. The Injectors. I know thiese often make problems. I have used around 4500 pounds on all of thiese repairs so far. I am on the edge of just selling the car. BUT when it runs, I LOVE IT. It has only run 170.000 km. What do you think I should do ? Sell it or keep it ? :S

      you've fixed all of the problems this engine might have and then you want to sell it? Why not check the injectors and make a decision after? looking to buy one with a bit higher mileage, hopefuly previous owner went through all of these before.

    Not all N53's have the disa valves, 325i's with the N53 don't have it, only 330i
