The water pump on my 2012 335 coupe failed at about 42,000 miles. Had to replace the "inlet/outlet solenoid valves" a month later. I sure hope that's it for while.

Vehicle Virals yeah I've got a bad injector now so getting ready to replace all of them...got index 8s in now so obviously been replaced before. Mine is a 2008 as well but sedan with sport package
Ah ok. I'll tell you this, make sure your injectors are actually bad and not just misfiring from bad spark plugs and coils. They tried to rip me off once at the BMW dealer by trying to charge me around 4K for brand new injectors because 3 misfired. I changed the plugs and coils for around $100 and problem solved, no more missfires.
Good advice. I'm going to do it myself. Ordered a k+dcan cable and installing INPA so I can go through my codes. I know number 3 is misfiring so I can swap the coil pack from one that's not and see if the misfire follows. That's def cheaper if it's coils and plugs for sure.
Everything you mention happened on my ‘07 335xi: HPFP and lowPFP failure, water pump, turbo failure (both), and electrical issues (power door locks, sunroof, passenger rear view mirror). After the red light flashed for 4x4, I gave up and traded it.
After seeing this Good / informative video , having serious second thoughts about buying a 2013 335 i Convert Twin turbo Engine 49,000 miles decent looking body & very nice interior . Not knowing the past maintenance from previous owners , I 'm thinking this model of car could be a " Money Pit " because of the cost of parts & labor ! Can' t really enjoy a car if its in the shop much of the time ! Advice from any BMW owners ? ?
Thanks for the information. I already purchased on March 15 2019 an 2008 535I in pristine condition with only 19k miles on it. But i need to know why i need expect in the future with the n54 motor. Thanks again for the information.
It's so amusing researching BMWs. I was thinking about a few different BMWs recently. Almost everyone of them seems to have very common and very significant engine issues. N47 Diesels have timing chain issues. These have multiple issues outlined in this video. And you know what...ive been driving Alfa Romeos for years and none of their models have any engine issues like these BMWs. They just make much more reliable engines. But my god, when you mention that you own an Alfa to people they almost lose their mind wondering how I drive anywhere without breaking down. Its amazing what perceptions people have. I'm still considering an M135/140i but the reliability issues mean I will probably steer clear.
Most speak without knowing. They hear someone say a certain car is unreliable and they add on like an echo effect. The 135i is definitely a fun car. If you want more tuning potential opt in for the N54 engine like I have or go for the more reliable engine in the later models, the N55.
Replaced everything but the Turbos also guys UPPER HOSE COOLANT MICKEY MOUSE FLANGE THAT RUNS COOLANT BACK AND FORTH TO THE ENGINE BUY THE PIECE IN ALUMINUM FOR LIFE LONG QUALITY!!! She runs like a BEAST now💯
My 335i 2010 coupe is 72k miles, only things bads the abs , speed sensors and top engine gasket , trother pipe nothing else and i did the job everything in one day
None of these issues in my N52 engine, 6cyl normally aspirated port injection. Gives me 272hp in the E92 330I. No HPFP, no turbo, no injectors, no heat, no problems. I value reliability over sheer power.
Nexus Achiles Plenty of friends that are pushing 600+ WHP in their N54s. We all DIY so we save a bunch. Add the FCP EURO lifetime warranty. Why the heck not 👌😜😜😜
The HPFP's are going for $700 now on FCP euro... Mine is definitely going out. It starts up okay on cold starts but it struggles to start up on warm start ups. Long cranks, almost like it wants to stall.
I just can’t wait to get one of these I just need to find a good deal because here in Sweden the cheapest bmw 335i 2008 is close to 13k right now unless I want one with 280k miles for 6000$
Very rewarding car as long as you accept it's a MONEY PIT!!! EVERYTHING IS FREAKING EXPENSIVE!!! You buy one for $5k-$10k and have to spend $6k-$8k to fix it........not only 1x, but several times throughout its life time. It's a sexy looking ride, but It's cheaper LS SWAP!
Have owned many BMW's, including 3 E39 models and various 3 series including a E92 M3 and recently a 2011 335 sport package. My 335 had 155,000 miles on it and, after spending a small fortune replacing gaskets, etc. I had the infamous rod bearing failure that made the car, at 8+ years old and with that many miles pretty much not worth anything for a slug like me who is not mechanical. I am friends with the service manager at our local BMW dealership, and he told me a few years ago that BMW has serially been cheapening its drive train parts with each new model in an effort to cut costs. I NEVER EVER red lined any of my BMW's and am not really a GM fan, but we had a 2002 Escalade that sat outside for 17 years and had almost 300,000 miles on it when I sold it, and my last few BMW's have had 10X the mechanical issues with a lot less strain and better care. Also own a 2014 C7 Corvette that now has 30,000 miles on it and it has been flawless. I don't think I will ever own another BMW sadly.
Great car. I have had a number of reliability issues injectors being the most recent. Just over £2,000.00 including labour to change all 6 at a BMW specialist. There are issues but.... when it works it's a great car.
@@VehicleVirals - I have had a few things done to the car stage 1 remap etc and should have changed the injectors at the same time. I think I have expected it lol.
Hi bro, considering a 2008 335 coupe with 110k on it and a 2009 4dr with 60k on it. They have similar price around 8K. The coupe have some replacements listed here: Jun 2015: 6 fuel injectors replaced, Brake replacement Dec 2017: Replaced engine valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, coolant hoses Nov 2018: Battery replacement, brake flush, water pump & thermostat repair July 2019: Blower Motor recall Sep 2019: Coolant expansion tank while the 4dr barely change anything. Nedd your help on the selection Thanks man.
My son inlaw left us one of these, the engine has had mods we don't know exactly, looks like a intercooler air filter and turbo's look aftermarket we can take pic's. It's been lowered with fancy wheels and tires. They set this up to drift and I would guess they melted several tires, Johnny only had this a couple of days, the mods look professional but I have no proof of that. If you want it leave me a comment please, we are in Missouri. This is my 2 year old granddaughter's car now, she needs a fair price. Thank you Michael
I got a 2007 bmw 335i, car was running great until i started idling, i had to replace my fuel injectors, spark plugs, o2 and fuel sensor bank 2.. 335i is a pain in the ass to fix no lie
Hi, thank you for information and sharing the experience with your 335i convertible. For the hpfp failure, did bmw changed to a new hpfp that is more reliable for model year 2009?
It's risky business to say the least. Just get a mechanic to take a look at it. Once I got all my issues resolved it's been trouble free for over a year now
Only issues I've had was the high pressure fuel pump which was fixed through recall, waterpump and windshield water pump. I also started getting misfires but after changing the coils and plugs it ran perfect. According other owner leaky seals and turbos going out but I've never experience that and my car is at 60K miles
Thanks man. I am considering a 335i convertible this or next year. I am currently looking at some 07, 08 models. Good to know the common issues. I might want to buy one with a one year warranty from the Garage to be on the safe side
I would personally go with hexon rr550/rr600s. They run about the same as oem turbos with much more performance. Plus they have a very good track record within the BMW community.
Vehicle Virals I’m just poking fun man it was a good video lots of info I used to work on these years I’d say you touched on the major issues there’s a few here n there that pop up in addition but Def very informative non the less
My understanding of this car is that the earlier models have more issues then the later models. Which models/years should I stay away from when purchasing this car?
Thanks for the breakdown and for the cost of thing it seems the 335 is a money pit. I was interested in buying an M6 convertible do you know any common issues with them. I owned a 2007 E350 4matic sedan for 10 years now never have does type of issues "knock on wood" . Although the BMW looks classy in a convertible seems like the E350 Cabriolet might be the one to purchase. Just doing my research now, thanks in advance, stay safe.
Same problems like all I am afraid all ready, the car is epic when you drive it is like some girl blow you but I took it on 210 000 for one year I give 5K for fuel and 3K for rapiers and now my mechanic told me car is very tired , he told me to expect injection , fuel pomp , and some another problems , i replace water pomp front suspension , and gear fail to be true , great fun when drive but expect yellow or red light every-time when drive it
Im looking to buy a 335i 2007 manual for price of 16,900 it has had both turbos replaced last year for a cost of 6,000 so that is covered. 120,000 miles Good deal?
Nice vid, i have a 535 2008 ordered from factory got it around 2007 nov. Just reached 100k miles was chipped first 50k miles . Im trying to figure out why my car goes in to reduced power only after 3-4k rpm or sometimes 5k and higher so i cant ever get on it and want to do ecu flash again, had vishnu v1-3 and jb1 jbh+ good ol days lol .. what do you think makes it go into limp after 3k wot ? I spent 5k on maintenance so it has to be something small maybe fuel pump it was replaced at 20k which was long ago
2008 535i, 110k miles, replaced lpfp sensor and coil after a misfire at cyclinder 3, few months ago, problem went away after. And then recently been having long crank issues cold/warm starts, and slight rough idle/vibrations at stop light, no codes, went to Indy and dealers for checkup, and they all said it’s fine... is HPFP or leaky injectors the problem now? Will I get stuck on the roadway one day when some of these things fail? Thanks!
I had the same with long crank starts and vibrations with limited power. I was told by BMW that 3 injectors were miss firing and that I had to replace all 6 because the older ones were no longer sold. Instead of listening to them I changed the coils and the spark plugs and all the issues went away. I also added fuel injection cleaner to a tank of gas and it's been nearly 2 years without any issues.
Vehicle Virals yea that’s why your temp doesn’t pass 250 . Mine goes a little above . On really hot days . But once I park and wait a bit the car cools down and goes back down to 250. I’ll get a oil cooler in the future .
Hey I’m looking at a 08 bmw 335xi with 105000 miles I’m taking it to get inspected before purchase but if everything comes back clean would it be smart to own one if I have a warranty?
I’m looking at 2008 335i 6mt with 94k miles on it, it’s been serviced very well but what problems should I look out for and does it seem like a good purchase for 12k
Hpfp issue is Not a recall. It's a tsb which means they don't have to pay for the repairs until it starts to give you issues. This is bmw way to weasel out of doing the right thing and taking care of the car owner.
Turbo issues Replacement hpfp go bad Various Electronic issues Oil filter housing leaks Ignition coils Injectors Heavy carbon buildup We can keep going
I know right? If you think "ouch" for a $450 part you probably shouldn't be owning this car. What are you gonna do when your injectors or turbos go? Turbo replacement is like $6,000 lmao.
The things im learning about these cars are people dont know how to work on anything and think 1000 dollars is expensive for car parts. Most everything bad ive heard about bmw is from inexperience with cars. Cars do break, theyre not cheap, and your money is better spent on yourself to learn the skill. Seems like most bmw guys are not actual car guys at all.
Vehicle Virals THANKS FOR REPLYING FRFR 💯 but nahh he didn’t bro only thing needed right now is Brake pads I just bought it yesterday.. everything seems fine but you already know how stuff goes lol... Im also thinking about buying a warranty in about a month or so just to be safe but idk 😐
If the price is right on the warranty I'd definitely reccomend it. Just make sure you hit up a BMW dealer to make all it's recalls have been done. If you got anymore questions shoot me a message via Instagram or Twitter. It's much easier for me to reply there
If ur not pushing 400 horses out of this thing u shouldn’t be driving. Also if u pick up let’s say a 2009 for 9 grand, it’s too easy to set aside 400 a month for issues that may come up. I’m on the fence to get one of these....
I had ‘07 335xi and both turbos failed at 45k miles. Then lost power on highway at 57k miles due to water pump failure. 4x4 yellow light lit up about a month later, got rid of it at that point.
I did in my review video. I had the electric water pump go bad, and two fuel injectors were misfiring which i fixed by replacing the spark plugs and the coils

one thing i'd add on here is the cam trays the metal rings on the cams and changing them to teflon due to them eating into the trays.
Never buy aftermarket electronic parts. Always use oem for pumps
Stay away from eBay dude. Seems like a steal but you do not wanna install critical components from eBay

@@rassanelasso9558 The n53?
Good video but there’s no doubt from 2004 up to 2008 bmw is notorious for having issues, the 2009 up to 2014 is far better reliability.
Fully agreed
2014 be like f30 with n55s
Thank you for the fuel pump info ! (I own a 2008 335i coupe)
No problem man, thanks for watching :)
You forgot to mention another very common problem...fuel injector issues
Well in my case that was tied in to the high pressure fuel pump recall. One lead to another. But yes there are updated ones available now
Vehicle Virals yeah I've got a bad injector now so getting ready to replace all of them...got index 8s in now so obviously been replaced before.
1k just for Injectors so not cheap either
Everything you mention happened on my ‘07 335xi: HPFP and lowPFP failure, water pump, turbo failure (both), and electrical issues (power door locks, sunroof, passenger rear view mirror).
After the red light flashed for 4x4, I gave up and traded it.
Sorry to hear that :(
ACDC, How many miles did it have when you sold the BMW?

After seeing this Good / informative video , having serious second thoughts about buying a 2013 335 i Convert Twin turbo Engine 49,000 miles decent looking body & very nice interior . Not knowing the past maintenance from previous owners , I 'm thinking this model of car could be a " Money Pit " because of the cost of parts & labor ! Excellent and very informative video!

Thanks for the information. I already purchased on March 15 2019 an 2008 535I in pristine condition with only 19k miles on it. But i need to know why i need expect in the future with the n54 motor. Thanks again for the information.
Oil leaks, transmission seals and water pump... All were easy diy jobs for me.
Late here but im glad im clear on those issues, but i stull have check engine light, trac control lights, and brake light
30FF common issue, the worst case is caused by turbocharger, and so far, my friend did replace big turbo, or hybrid turbo then comes lot of fun
Had a 08 e90 328xi went through every major bmw problem still getting the e92 335xi just gonna buy every major party ahead of time
That's one way to do it! Wish you the best

I love the tuning potential of the N54. I'll take my chances :)

It's definitely a headache at times, but in my opinion it's all worth it at the end of the day
@@VehicleVirals - I have had a few things done to the car stage 1 remap etc and should have changed the injectors at the same time. I think I have expected it lol.

Jun 2015: 6 fuel injectors replaced, Brake replacement
Dec 2017: Replaced engine valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, coolant hoses
Nov 2018: Battery replacement, brake flush, water pump & thermostat repair
July 2019: Blower Motor recall
Sep 2019: Coolant expansion tank
while the 4dr barely change anything.

My son inlaw left us one of these, the engine has had mods we don't know exactly, looks like a intercooler air filter and turbo's look aftermarket we can take pic's. So if the fuel pump wasn't fixed under the recall then they will still take care of it right recalls are for the life of the vehicle correct?

It's risky business to say the least. Just get a mechanic to take a look at it. Once I got all my issues resolved it's been trouble free for over a year now
So main issues is water pump ,seal gasket, turbos , high pressure fuel pump?
Only issues I've had was the high pressure fuel pump which was fixed through recall, waterpump and windshield water pump. I also started getting misfires but after changing the coils and plugs it ran perfect. According other owner leaky seals and turbos going out but I've never experience that and my car is at 60K miles

My car gives a warning engine malfunction reduced power is it the turbo´s or bad stage 1 mapping ?
All of this, is routine maintenance. And easy to fix.
What kind of turbo would you put ?
I would personally go with hexon rr550/rr600s. They run about the same as oem turbos with much more performance. Plus they have a very good track record within the BMW community.
The what gate?? Lol very informative video for someone who isn’t a mechanic tho

Is the more reliable engine in the 328i convertible? Not as much power or fun but less expenses?
Yes the N52 engine found on the 328i is more reliable
Is the engine mechanical friendly? I’m in the market for one. I’ve owned Audi’s all my life and worked on them
My understanding of this car is that the earlier models have more issues then the later models. Which models/years should I stay away from when purchasing this car?
2009 and up were much more improved. The 07-08 are normally the ones talked about when it comes to some of the issues I mentioned in the video.
Thing is , people want that N54 engine to convert it to a large single Turbo. Once that damn car has a tuned engine, it's god like.
Exact same as N47 years to avoid lol
A mercedes ad before watching a bmw video is awkward
😂
Dose BMW 2008 328i and 2007 335i looks the same ?
Interesting how no one talks about the x-drive system. Hardly hear about mechanical issues or repairs.

What did this ever end up being?
What was the issue?
Trying to decide between this or a 328i
So should i buy a 09 335xi sedan twin turbos? Im looking to customize it in the future
Anything over 250 is fine . U can’t pass 275 I believe . Mine goes up too 265 but goes back down fast . No oil cooler here
But i live in Miami so the hot weather and stop and go traffic is the only time it goes up really high. Once I park it goes down . To 250
I see, mine never reaches the middle point of 250 at all, just a notch under. And I live in Orlando.
Vehicle Virals do you have a oil cooler ? I have the 07 model without lol
Yeah I do most 335i's with sports package have it, and if I'm not mistaken it was after year 2007 that they started carrying them
Vehicle Virals yea that’s why your temp doesn’t pass 250 . Mine goes a little above . On really hot days . But once I park and wait a bit the car cools down and goes back down to 250. I’ll get a oil cooler in the future .
so if you get a new high pressure fuel pump you get an upgraded part? or just the same "new" part ?
Updated pump
Hey I’m looking at a 08 bmw 335xi with 105000 miles I’m taking it to get inspected before purchase but if everything comes back clean would it be smart to own one if I have a warranty?
How much to replace the turbo and how much for the labor? Just curious.

Hpfp issue is Not a recall. It's a tsb which means they don't have to pay for the repairs until it starts to give you issues. This is bmw way to weasel out of doing the right thing and taking care of the car owner.
I had all these same issues with my 08 335xi too. So I sold it and bought a 435i! Lol
