Until next time, peace! - Розваги
One of my all time favorite movies, even though it has some inconsistencies, I love it. Even SG1 referenced it at the end of S1 in the episode Politics. It has so many great moments, so much great stuff.
Gotta run this one back every 4th I reckon
Not only were there callbacks and cast crossovers
This was the bigger and more well known/received movie by the same director - Roland emmerich
He did stargate just before this, and music was quite similar as it was the same music composer.
He was also known in the same few years for the “infamous” Godzilla movie.
Follow up trivia point - there’s an African American actor who had a role in ALL three films - stargate, Independence Day and Godzilla.
“Welcome wagon” helicopter pilot in this
Helicopter pilot in Godzilla
Team member with colonel O’Neil and Jackson in stargate
Fun Fact: In the official novelization, Dr. Okun (played by Brent Spiner) mentions that in their efforts to translate the alien language to better understand the technology of the alien ship at Area 51, they once attempted to recruit a scientist who had published theories on alien presence on Earth, a Dr. Daniel Jackson, but they couldn't find him, even with all the top secret high level stuff available to them. It was like he'd dropped off the face of the planet some time around 1994...
Really! Oh, I never knew! That’s cool! Daniel for the win!
I'm confused
Oh Roland ….
I'm fairly sure I remember hearing Independence Day was as it was originally conceived as a sequel in the same continuity as Stargate (1994), with the aliens back for revenge. Didn't quite make it into the final cut.
Dude what??? Wait hold up. that's awesome.
Call back to Daniel in season 1 making the joke of Apophis coming. "Oh yeah, we'll just upload a virus into the mother ship."
😮😮😮
SG1 throwing some shade on the team behind the Stargate movie. 😂
Gotta say, as an English girl, this is the most Americanised American movie ever.. I love it ❤😂
I felt American watching this
Seeing this in the theaters was one of the best theater going experiences I've had. The audience was cheering, laughing, it was awesome.
I bet! Especially the ending and speech
@@failwhale34 Also when Wil punched the alien.
I remember walking out and turning to my friend to say, “That was without a doubt the dumbest blockbuster sci-fi movie I have ever seen … and I loved it!”
My opinion has never changed.
The best movie presidential speech. Amazing.
Frfr
Indeed. Contrary to “getting in the thick of it” being the mark of a good leader…being able to (off the cuff or prescripted) give a speech coherently would seem to be at least a good start towards being a good leader 😅
The thing that you said about the virus was explained in a deleted scene. They talked about how our technology is based off of the alien technology after the ship crashed and that's how they advanced computer technology so quickly (in the movies universe). Unfortunately there were a few deleted scenes cut from the movie that would have helped explain a few things.
Aaaaaaa
There is an extended version of the movie that includes some of the deleted scenes making the movie a lot better.
I never really got the problem with the virus idea. All of our technology is based on binary maths. That's universal. If aliens showed up, they might have completely advanced computers but would still use the same basics. Also, sure, Jeff's character had only just seen the technology, but we can assume the guys who had studied the ship understood the programming and hardware of it fairly well over decades, so they likely knew how most of it worked. Realistically the aliens had no reason to believe that there would be a flaw in their tech. It's like how we get surprised when a dog works out how to open a door.
That rallying speech by Bill Pullman man. 🔥
DA BOI 🏌️♂️
That part where they have to tell Americans to stop shooting at the alien spacecraft is the most realistic part of the movie.
SG-1 would have cleared this in a 2 parter.
That’s a fact
yep. the first part ending with half of the earth ships getting decimated by sheer numbers and part 2 ending with and Lord of the Rings/Endgame style battle with every ally remaining and Atlantis.
This movie made everyone watching it into Americans for two hours.
Amazing.
No cap. I was patriotic af by the end
Loved this in the theaters. It was probably only the second I saw with surround sound. We take that for granted now, but it completely changed the movie going experience. The scene where the ships first get revealed and the panic begins is my favorite visual in the movie. Plus so many fun quotable lines.
That’s a great point! And it’s very quotable 🎉
I love how Adam Baldwin’s characters don’t necessarily conflict with each (SG1, Chuck, here)…who knows, maybe that is Kowalski. 😂
I saw this in theater. One of my favorites. Another one of my favorites you should react to is The Final Countdown (1980) The U.S.S. Nimitz goes back to December 6th, 1941. It's filmed on the Nimitz.
😂… homeboy saluted with his left hand.
😂😂😂😂 you got me was feeling patriotic I had to throw it up
Since this movie was released in 1996, I was only 24 years old. I absolutely love this movie. Talk about nostalgia for me!
I feel that! I’m not far off either
Fitting considering this is a Dean Devlin/Roland Emmerich film who helmed the OG Stargate movie 2 years earlier
Yessir!!
22:45 “yeah that’s the sign of a good leader…getting right into the thick of it”
Well, yeah, but being able to form coherent sentences is also pretty important isn’t it?
Kudos to the fact he spoke from the heart and “without a prewritten script” (quotation marks cos obviously it’s a movie and scripted, but you get the idea)
David Arnold's score for this is really fun. Big triumphal fanfare, love the theme for the aliens. Think his score for Stargate is better though.
Banger score most definitely ❤ I might agree with you on that 😉
25:41 Me walking into the toilet after quesadillas
LMAOO😂
My first thought when watching this movie for the first time after seeing the Doctor Who episodes "Daleks in Manhattan" and "Evolution of the Daleks", is that these aliens picked the wrong building to use as the epicenter for their attack on New York. When the Daleks find out what these guys did to their building, they're going to be seriously pissed off. :D
Thats why we need a SG command.
SG1 probably would take down all the big spaceships by themself. (like they did before now that i think)
We need The SGC more than ever
My theater, uproared in cheers and applauded when the dog made it!
People do love when the dog lives
@@failwhale34 too bad you cut that part out. Your video was Hella choppy.
People always say thank god the aliens use TCP for us to connect to them, but in the movie universe all our tech is based off their technology so its not actually that much of a leap
Even computers in general. The guys in the lab had decades of understanding the hardware/software to build an interface. The ship itself has wired/wireless connections to the ship. So all they would need to do was plug into the ship they're in, upload it via the ships own networking.
I will never forget watching this on independence day when it was released at a family gathering as a kid..it was an insane experience..great reaction 💯
Great reaction, man! Quality editing and commentary
Shout out to Charley! Killing the movies edits rolling out moving forward 🔥😎
@@failwhale34hehe
I haven’t watched much of your reactions recently but I’ve really missed them 😅 Just starting this one, it’s a classic and it’s great to see your face again! I used to watch your doctor who reactions. But I’m stoked to see what you thought of this one ☺️
It's been so long since I actually sat down and watched this film. Such a good story of human perseverance and ingenuity in the face of total annihilation at the hands of extraterrestrials. And an all star cast that made it even more epic. Not gonna lie, I had completely forgotten that Brent Spiner and Adam Baldwin were in it, and I never realised Jay Acovone was also in it! Also never realised that Roland Emmerich was the director, so I agree that explained the very Stargate feel to it. Really enjoyed your reaction to this!
Ay! Thank you Vanessa I’m glad you enjoyed it :) good come back story forsure
Love this movie. One of the all time great disaster movies. Just good clean dumb fun.
To be honest, most of our computers probably had viruses on them when this movie came out lol I saw this movie in theatre as a kid. I was so hyped walking out of that place. I was ready to fade aliens on sight
I see an ay lmao it’s fade ON SIGHT 😭 love that
Man if you haven’t seen Chuck, you gotta see it. One of the guys in this movie, Adam Baldwin, is a main character in Chuck. I’d love to see you react to it, but even if you don’t I highly recommend you watch it on your own time!
I’ve seen chuck! One of the first shows I loved. A gem fosho
They have to be time travelers, right? Also think Boimler is going to spend the whole episode fanboying while Mariner pretends she's not impressed by seeing so many living legends in the flesh while simultaneously trying to prove she's as good as them. And some sprinkling of references to the future as jokes that no one hears or believes.
Potentially time travellers, different dimensions? Definitely out if this world
Yeah, saw that coming.
🙃
One of the greatest B movies ever written.
Quick trivia notes. First, Independence Day is the first movie with a black top billed actor to be the biggest hit of the year at the worldwide box office.
Second, ID4 has the record for most miniatures in one movie, record it will most likely keep forever.
Nice!! Didn’t know that ty
I'm surpriesed Star Wars EP1 didn't top that, there was CGI but still made a lot of miniature sets for it
8:14 because, people
Fair game
"Let's get patriotic! Happy 4th of July!" Says the Canadian? 🤣
The rumour when this movie came out was that the script was supposed to be the sequel to the Stargate movie until the rights were sold to make SG-1 instead. (Devlin and Emmerich wanted a Stargate trilogy and still hope it'll happen.) When you watch it through the lens of Ra's people coming for vengeance and Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum actually being Jack and Daniel... you're welcome.
1. Hiller is a USMC Captain he knows his holiday off is over. That's why he didn't even have to wait to be called in. Jasmine should know that.
2. In the theater I was in the people in there actually stood up and cheered when the White House and the Capitol Building blew up.
3. In my top 10 reasons out of thousands to NOT live in a Metropolis. Getting the hell out.
4. Lisa Jakub/Alicia is FINE!😍😋
5. Brent Spiner/Dr. Okum played Data in Star Trek TNG. It's nice to see him with emotions.
6. Goof: The president said he sent up an AWAC. It's AWACS= Airborne Warning And Control SYSTEM.
7. Hiller FAIL parashoot jump.🙄😲
You’re doing BSG?!?
That’s awesome. Love that show!
Yessir! Starting beginning of Next week
It is very interesting to see your reaction to the films Robocop and Robocop 3. This is a cool classic 👍🔥
Some people don't like Independence Day 2... but I really did. :)
Will have to see for myself! :)
So many red shirts in this movie
Legendary same director as star gate
right! That's what I'm saying, I felt SG vibes and picked it up after the fact :P
@@failwhale34 at the very beginning I thought I heard like 1 second of the stargate theme too.
Gosh this was made before Michael was born !
Got emmmm
oh god noooo...that's HAL9000
You're actually the first to react to Independence Day movie with the deleted scenes I guess.
Man...I wish they would digitally remaster all of the cgi shots in this movie with today's cgi technology and re-release it!
tell me about it! That'd be wicked for an upcoming anniversary
21:30 to 21:35 - It looked like you were marrying Jasmine! 😂
imagination of young folk is nearly extinct
The greatest president in U.S history
Do you plan to watch the second Independence day movie? I know it's not on your Patreon, and many think it's not worth it. I am on the opposite thinking though. I think it explains a lot of things. I have no idea why so few like it.
The movie is straight-up awful. The premise of a post ID world is great but the movie is just so dumb and honestly kind of ruins the first movie a little. The worst bit is the final bit that sets up a sequel in such a ridiculously cheesy way.
@@notanactualuser Agree to disagree.
He said this one was dumb too, but it was good. There are awesome things in the second one as well.
First time watching? What have you been doing with your life?

The "ball of fire" was friction with the earth's atmosphere.
The number of words and phrases you use that are indecipherable to me is disquieting.
Also, your equanimity toward stripping as an occupation is decidedly anachronistic to the film's 1996 setting. This leads me to believe that you would be very perplexed by the social context of Brokeback Mountain.
This had the same composer as Stargate as well.
Did you recognize Goldblum's "Must go faster! Must go faster! Must go faster!" from Jurassic Park?
From predo file to president... and we aren't talking about joe this time!
😭
The movie based on the 1983-1984 miniseries V
