Bill Pullman's speech was actually him rehearsing. He did so good they left it in the movie. The reaction of the extras was real!
Bill Pullman gives genuinely one of the most inspirational speech moments ever. I would fight beside him with no question
I'm not American but I feel so proud and hyped after this speech! I would vote for President Whitmore every time, and definitely fight by his side!
Now we have one that would go off script and turn it into a self praise rambling speech, and another who would forget where he was 3 mins in and drool on himself. We need Whitmore now more than ever.
A candidate for governor stole most of that speech back there in Argentina :D
It gets to me, every single time!
The inspiring score in the background doesn't hurt either. Try playing that speech without the music and it just doesn't hit the same.
It's absolutely criminal that Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum didn't work together more. They're phenomenal together.
Will Smith is busy slapping comedians man
If they had made a better sequel, they probably would've both been in it.
@@borntogazeintonightskieswas gonna say this lol
@@borntogazeintonightskies
this movie has a sequel? fuckin hell lmao
Honestly I never would've greenlit a sequel without Will its criminal we never got more Smith and Goldblum
Everyone always talks about Bill Pullmans speech, and of course its incredible, but I think his performance during the hospital scene is just as brilliant.
I literally cry everytime the presidents wife says liar with a happy smile. That scene is one of the most heartbreaking scenes ever.
One of the best quotes I heard about this movie was "we should beam Independence Day into space and say it was a true story so no aliens start shit" lol
But what if they take it as a challenge then we might be fucked😂😂😂
Nah, then they'd simply take the precaution of installing antivirus software before attacking.
Of course, they would need a compelling reason to bother attacking. Except for a living biosphere, there isn't a single natural resource on Earth that isn't FAR more abundant elsewhere in the solar system, and not locked up at the bottom of our comparatively deep gravity well.
ID4 aliens in particular, who want natural resources, just cruised right past all those other planets & asteroids & comets, where they could have found enough material & fuel to build multiple Dyson Swarms or literally a billion copies of their mothership. One has to wonder why they would even bother exterminating organisms inhabiting an insignificant little planet to begin with, when they could have simply started harvesting the rest of the solar system with total impunity.
The humans don't look very good in this movie tbh. Would be more like an invitation, lol.
theyd have a crack at how fucking dumb we are, aliens would be like really my niggas? lol
Yes. But don't send or the second one. Quit while ahead.
Independence Day is one of my grandpa’s favorite movies. A couple of years ago (like 2010), I was at his house and it was on basic cable. He grabs the remote to turn up the volume and seriously asks me, “Have you ever seen this movie? Independence Day. It’s so good!” He passed at 104 years old like a few weeks ago. He was an ww2 veteran who fought in the battle for Hong Kong.
So is my dad and my late mom because, that was the time when Independence Day movie was released before they were married until 2001.
All my respect for your Grandfather and his service. 104? That's how you live a life.
I already know your grandpa was a legend.
DON’T SAY YOUR GRANDPA!!!!! I was the same age as both of the kids in this movie when this came out!
33:20 Why you came
Not only did they use huge miniature city models, they had to hang them UPSIDE DOWN so the rolling fireballs would hug the street and wrap around the buildings. Some very clever old-school techniques on display here.
L.A. destruction close-ups were filmed sideways, making the flames crawl along the buildings as it went up.
"hello boys! im baaaacccckk!" - right up the ol' tail pipe lol
One of the best alien invasion movies ever. Went to go see this in theatres in 1996, and has stuck with me ever since. And let’s not forget, one of the best movie presidents. Bill Pullman rocked the roll.
Remember watching this with my whole family when I was a kid in 96. There was so much hype before its release and it paid off. Such a great blockbuster movie.
I saw it at an old Drive-In in Imperial County, when they flashed that up on the screen the whole place went wild.
Rest In Peace
James Rebhorn 1948-2014
Robert Loggia 1930-2015
and David Brenner 1962-2022
The whole " and what the hell is that smell " bit was actually adlib as there was a horrendous smell in the desert where they were filming and smith was so fed up with it as was everyone the Director loved it so much it was the clip that made it in the movie.
Will Smith's best line in his career.
@@trequorWhat?!
They were filming on the Utah Salt Flats and the smell was decomposing Brine Shrimp. No one gave Will the heads up about the smell before they started filming.
He decked that alien too! They cut out where it insulted his wife. :D Kidding.
“A countdown to what, David?!” Makes me laugh every time.
Bill Pullman gives the greatest movie speech ever.
Apparently he improvised it. It was meant to be a placeholder but they liked it and went with it.
I will agree with that. It lands perfectly. Tone, energy, length, and it delivers hope and adrenaline pumping motivation.
I get goosebumps every time.
Hohoho 🤣👆
Obviously you never watched "Any Given Sunday."
Amateur
@@DirtyBeaststhis is sooooo not true
I love that everyone has the same energy for the dog jumping in the opening. Go dog go!!!
And never mind the laws of physics...
Cool dogs don't look at explosionss!!
I love Jeff Goldblum’s swagger at the end. 😂
And all through Jurassic Park! 😅
Jeff Goldblum had confident with the cigar walk. Like he was listening to Bad by Michael Jackson in his ears. And of course Must go faster is right out of Jurassic Park.
this movie had to be jeff goldblum's best role

Love this ending for Russell; the "loser" of the story going out in a literal blaze of glory!
"Hello boys! I'm baaaaack!" 🇺🇸
Randy Quaid was just being himself in this movie.
39:33 of course
Shitter was full
No, this was pretty tame compared to his real life.
Watching this in the theater during a hot summer day was the real definition of a blockbuster treat. The smell of movie theater popcorn brings ya back...
Fun Fact: A few years later, US Government confirmed officially that Area 51 exists.
Indeed. And the government denied all assistance with the movie when the film makers insisted on using Area 51.
Lmao
Lmao
Never understood all the doubt in Russell's story once everyone knew aliens were here and ready to harm.
Unfortunately some people are dumb. Plain and simple.
Aliens showing up doesn't automatically make all stories about aliens true.
They didn't just build a miniature white house, they added mini furniture, just incase they could be seen in the explosion 😊
Bill Pullman did amazing at portraying veteran to President. I know you didn't like his decision to stay..but that is him an officer and commander. He needs to lead his people. He led by example which is what we were taught while serving. The way he cared about lives and trying to save the people. His speech was so amazing. I love this movie. Great reaction you two. :) Jeff Goldbloom and Will Smith made a great duo to.
The explosion scene where they blow up the empire state building and the white house was done with miniatures. Really cool
Happy Independence Day!! “We will not fade quietly into the night!”
Don't forget that one of the most American films of all time was made by a German director.
In India, It was in 2000 that we had a VCR and my Dad was the only one who used to rent foreign/Hollywood movies in my family. This was my second foreign film I watched as a 90s Kid. First one was Jumanji dubbed on TV but I was 2.
This movie aired on star TV or star movies.. before 2000. Saw it first time there .
“This glass bulletproof?” “No sir.” 💥💥🔫🔫
But it is double pane. Keeps the cold out during winter and heat out during summer.
This movie is a better celebration of the 4th of July than fireworks. 🎆🇺🇸🎇
Yep
Hell yeah, it is. Happy 4th of July, everyone!
HAPPY JULY 4TH 🥳🎉🎂
It won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
It made $817 million dollars ($1.4 billion dollars today) against a $75 million dollar budget.
A sequel, INDEPENDENCE DAY RESURGENCE was released in 2016, but it was not well received by critics or fans but it was a moderate success, $390 million dollars against a $150 million dollar budget.
I had no idea there was even a sequel until I started seeing comments mentioning it.
me either
@@jayhop it's............................................................................
-sigh-
That's it.
I didn't hate the sequel nearly as much as everyone made me think I would. It's nowhere near as memorable as the first but it's still fun.
That one guy has been making me clear my throat for 30 years
He was also in Mrs Doubtfire!!! 😂😂😂
That's his real voice
Greatest movie President, imo. Damn, they don't make movies like this anymore.
"Fire at Will." Poor Will Smith.
Lmao the first time watching this movie as a kid my mom and aunts started yelling “no dont shoot Will” 😂🤣
Probably the best summer blockbuster of all time. They don't make them like this anymore.
Enjoyable movie to be sure, but let's not exaggerate too much. For example. Star Wars (New Hope), Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, E.T., Forrest Gump...etc. were all summer blockbusters and definitely ahead of this.
Jaws is the Daddy of summer blockbusters.....
It set the standard.
This movie holds a special place in my parents hearts because when this movie came out they were expecting their first child and a heat wave that made it unbearable to be at home so they went to the movies and saw this movie, they loved it and watch it the same day every year.
Even I was ready to go fight some aliens after the president’s speech lol
Top 5 movie speeches right there!!!! My mom adores that part so much, I think of her every time I see it. ❤
Bill Pullman is the best president in movie history
Fun fact: the actress who played the first lady gets her chance to play president in the remake of battlestar galactica.
Shes also the president or something like that in another tv series. I forget the name. Its a drama.
@bradkirchhoff5703 She was also amazing in "Dances With Wolves" but then everyone in that picture was. Except, sadly, Kevin Costner.
1996 was the GOAT year of movies. And yes, that speech gives me goosebumps and constricts my throat every time I hear it!
"We few... we happy few... we band of brothers..."
This is one of my fave films, The Bill Pullman speech was epic, and they left in the blooper with the megaphone not being turned on at the beginning of that speech, Bill just turns it on and keeps going. Now Kristen & Michael get to watch the second film, Independence Day: Resurgence, but you don't have to wait 20 years.
I can't believe you guys haven't watched the Independence day!! We watch it for every Independence day(Aug15) in India!! This movie is how I knew what 4th of July was as a kid 😊
That's my president! I love Bill Pullman, one of the greatest speeches in history!
One of the best popcorn movies and the best theater experience I've ever had. This is the movie that I developed a lifelong crush on Jeff Goldblum. Lol Happy 4th to my American brothers and sisters!
Pretty much the perfect Blockbuster. Great cast, awesome VFX. And so rewatchable!
"I'm in the military, they say jump, I say, How High?'. Nope that is "How High, SIR?"
I saw this in the theater opening weekend. It was such a great experience on the big screen, with the theater sound system.
Same here. Went to see it with my parents on opening weekend. It was so much fun, and the sound was incredible. It had the entire building rumbling like nothing else I’d ever experienced before. Inspired my dad to go out and buy a home theatre surround system. 😂
This is my brithday movie. Every 4th of July since seeing this movie July 3rd in 96. I was a wee lad of 8 years when it hit theaters, i'm 36 now. I don't think you can do better than this when it comes to a good 90s blockbuster. I really don't think any of the other big ones of the 90s, with this kind of scale, come even close. It's got everything. Great story, score, characters. It has romance, action, drama, a couple scares, great dialogue.... Popcorn, baby. This is what cinema should be. You leave the theater with a smile on your face.
Many people know the Safety Dance, but the moves of the IndepenDance have largely been forgotten over time.
1. i grew up in roswell, nm, and the 50th-anniversary festival happened a year after this movie was released. it 100% fueled the CHAOS that hit our town for the ufo festival. we were a town of 50k, and we'd maybe had a few thousand visitors in prior years; 1997 was estimated to have 20k visitors, with 10-15k of those during the week of the festival.
2. in the early 80s, there was a comet or meteor or something that was projected to hit earth in our general location at the time (mexico). when i asked my mom what she/dad/we did, she said dad was working, so she took me outside to watch. she said if we're gonna go, we're gonna go instantly and with a view.
3. kristen, i have a crush on your laugh. :)
This is one of my favorites, love the reaction❤.
Such a classic. There are so many lines from this that live entirely rent-free in my head. I also think the little girl actor knocked it out of the park in her delivery of 'is mommy sleeping now?' It always gets me.
Military salutes. Civilians hand over heart
This movie was fantastic. I was 20 when this came out and it was absolutely amazing. I loved it then and I still love it now. It was so well written with the connection of plots and characters. 10/10. No notes.
Kristen and Michael are the best duo on this channel! You guys made me remember how heartfelt and inspirational this movie can be. To Michael all I have to say is you're an amazing addition to this channel. I don't know what you majored in but you're smart as hell. Almost nothing gets by you. Keep it up brother!
from uploading the virus to defeating them, is pure cinematic action gold!!! still get chills!
I watch this movie with my family every July 4th without fail. It’s our one tradition
Happy 4th. of July from Antarctica ✌
Kristen and Mike I've seen this movie 100 times I've enjoyed the most watching it with you guys thank you
This is still one of my favorite sci-fi movies. The best role by Will Smith, one of the best speeches in a movie ever, I love it!
AFter the speech I'm like, in real life you have Biden and Trump.... 🤣
This speech and the speech from Attack on Titan are among the most motivational speeches there is!
Always be ready guys happy 4th yall W movie
I was in college when this movie was released and I kid you not, my entire class went to watch this. And being Singaporean and reserved as we are, the entire theater just burst with excitement during the President's speech and after the movie. It was wild. Oh boy, miss that experience.
Thank you for your service to all who served!
Your feelings about California and our feelings on earthquakes are 10000% accurate.
You only solute when you have a cover (a hat on your head).
Wish we could've gotten the whole speech.
"Oops."
Gotta say, that speech from the President is OMFG GOOD!!!
Loved this movie. That speech is so iconic. Great reaction.
When I first watched this as a kid in the early 2000s, the operation room scene scared the absolute shit out of me.
Great reaction guys...one of a kind movie...saw it opening day at a theater in houston ...waited outside an hr in ungodly heat....worth it ..amazing movie
I really enjoy you two guys reactions to this movie. And I really love this movie a lot. And when I watch you guys reactions to this movie it is like watching this movie with you guys and you guys are a lot of fun to watch movies with. And the very first time that I saw this movie Independence Day was in the summer of 1996 with my Mom, my Stepdad and my Grandmother. And I was only 19 years old at the time I saw this movie Independence Day..
I'm not sitting here fighting alien invaders on this July 4th.
And Whitman's speech STILL got me fired up!!!!!
🎆🎇🎆🎇🎆
First time I saw this was in the theaters with a friend. That scene where Harry Connick, Jr.,, tells Will Smith that he'll never fly the space shuttle as long as he's married to a stripper, my friend leaned over to me and said, "When you're married to a stripper, you fly the space shuttle every night." That still cracks me up to this day.
Speaking of unifying humanity versus an external threat, watch Watchmen.
DefCon 5 is "Everything is great"
DefCon 1 is "We are at war"
DefCon 3 is " *holds up hands in attempt to calm everybody down* Everything is still pretty great .............................................................................................................. but we could soon be at war"
The US military (as a whole) has, at the time my writing this, never risen above DEFCON 3. Strategic Air Command (SAC) was briefly raised to DEFCON 2 during the Cuban Missile Crisis, but the rest of the military remained at DEFCON 3 during that incident.
At DEFCON 3, the Air Force must be ready to mobilize in 15 minutes. At DEFCON 2, the entire Armed Forces must be ready to go to war within 6 hours. At DEFCON 1, nuclear war is imminent or has already begun, and the entire military must be ready for immediate response.
I swear this movie gets better with each watch.
glad you're watching this. Brings back memories watching this on the tube tv with the vhs player. borrowed this from the library multiple times too lol.
I like you two reacting together. So much energy 😂
One of the greatest 90’s movies ever made, one of the greatest speeches in film history, and one of the coolest ending scenes ever with Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum walking with all of the swagger in the world!
I was eight years old watching this in theaters during a thunderstorm during which a tornado hit about an hour south from us. We had to take back roads home to avoid flooded roads... Such a crazy night, but the movie was awesome!
The new independence day is as cool as the old movie, even many old star cast came back to play their roles..
Happy 4th, nearly end of the 5th here!
Great reaction again guys, well said too about it hasn't dated at all and stands the test of time, I liked that, I remember seeing it when it came out, great then better now! Kristen's laugh has got to be the best laugh of all, just so good, makes me want to watch the reaction again, ya both did great, thanks again guys!
Keep em coming!
cheers ❣🤟
Filming the speech scene was also weirdly synchronistic: It was shot in front of the hanger that once housed the Enola Gay, one of the bombers that dropped the atomic bombs on Japan on Aug. 6, 1945. The scene was filmed exactly 50 years later.
"We will not go quietly into the night," seemed to be a reference to Dylan Thomas' classic poem "Do not go gentle into that good night". The poem was fully recited in Interstellar.
Such a good movie. It's a shame there isn't a sequel for it, just like my other favorite film, Pacific Rim.
And Highlander
There’s a great Independence Day video game where you play a fighter pilot fighting the alien fighters and you have to blow up the larger ships just like in the end of this movie. I wish it could be remade for today.
Awesome film by Roland Emrich 🎬🤘🏻👌🏼🎥🎞
I've been waiting for this. My GOAT film❤
A cinematic film full of spectacular action. Were glad that you shared your reaction and Happy 4th of July.
Congrats you two. This is possibly the best reaction to this movie that I have seen till now and that is saying something. I'm glad I subscribed! Keep it up!!!!!
If Bill Pullman ever ACTUALLY ran for president, I would LEGIT vote for him.
In theatres, The Trailer for ID4 played when Mission Impossible released. When it was over people were yelling for the projectionist to rewind the trailer to watch it again.
It’s a shame this movie never had a sequel…
RIGHT?
Preach, brother!
I agree, it's a pity. On the other hand, some movies are fine as a one and done. The story is told, the arc is complete and nothing else is needed.
did
Dr Okun is played by the fellow who played Mr Data on Star Trek the Next Generation.
First Hollywood movie I ever watched 😊
You two are a solid emotional/expressive duo.
happy independence day to all ppl from GB
Someone probably already said this...but the "Oh god, I hope they bring back Elvis" lady is Lee Strauss 😊
I remember watching this in theatre when it came out (yes I'm old). At the time there were no better special effects and the, at this time relatively new THX, almost blew me out of my seat. Even if this is'nt the deepest movie with the best script, it will always be among my top 10, because it was such an intense audiovisual experience and also cool af. :)
The Late 90s were a crazy good time for cinema.
Hand over heart for civilians, salute for military in uniform. Military out of uniform-hand over heart. Hats are removed, unless military in uniform outdoors. Have a safe and happy holiday from an retired US AirForce Senior Non-Commissioned Officer(aka a Master Sergeant). Cheers
I didn’t realize the Father from The Wonder Years was in this movie.
Your mentioning Earth uniting against an alien attack was explored in the early 60's in two outstanding Outer Limits episodes. The Architects of Fear (S1.E3) and Nightmare (S1.E10) featuring a very young Martin Sheen.
Architects of Fear was clearly an inspiration for the "threat" used to unite Earth in "Watchmen".
The episode of"The Outer Limits " playing on Silk Spectre I's TV when Silk Spectre II and Nite Owl visit her at the end is Architects of Fear, as an homage.
