  • I regreased the spring, it was in good condition so I left it there, switched the ratchet pawl around so it catches now, found some screws for the spring barrel cover, installed new weights and springs for the governor, and replaced a beat up spindle gear and worn out fiber gear. Put it all back together and it works! Yee Haa!

I have a Columbia Grafonola from about 1915, the cabinet is in terrible shape, but it works! I am hoping to have it back together by the end of the year. It has a three spring motor and no fiber gears, the spring barrels, one needs to be fixed as the rivet is missing, hopefully I can have it fixed as good as new.

Spring barrels are not too hard to find, lots of parts motors out there. Might be easier than trying to replace the rivet...

I am going to send it to APSCO, when the sound box comes back to get it fixed.

I have this motor and having issues. The larger brass gear to the left of the spring. It seems to have a little wobble which is causing it to not mesh well with the spindle gear, causing the spring to let out quickly when winding. Did this gear have play or wiggle on your motor?
