Thanks so much for this video! I sort of fell into reselling after my mom had to move into a memory care home last year and I started selling a bunch of her stuff online. I started on Poshmark (easy shipping) and just started cross listing to EBay (still figuring out shipping). Now I am hooked on reselling and am starting to hunt around at garage sales and thrift stores for more to sell! I have been watching your videos for a few years and really enjoy them:)

I really like your shipping rates. I had changed mine recently to a flat amount on certain items and I feel it helps. I am in the middle of the states so it works well and I feel it has improved sales. Still covers my shipping supplies. I am going to use yours! Thanks for all you for us resellers! Love watching your kids grow! 😊

Calculated shipping when your a new seller is the easiest way to do it and learn rates. Passing the discount for me is easier also. I believe the buyer responds knowing it’s the cheapest rate for them and no extra cost. It’s the most fair for the buyer since they know where they live. Like no funny business/ straight forward, calculated lowest cost to get product to them . That’s my opinion. But I’m still new. Thanks for all the great videos and teaching us along the way. We appreciate it!!! ❤

I'm one of those rare resellers who does free shipping on everything except for auctions and international buyers who want a better shipping price than going through eBay. I have 7 different reasons why I believe free shipping is better than calculated or flat rate shipping. My buddy does over $4 million in gross sales from selling heavy vintage electronics on eBay and also uses free shipping.

I ship a lot of shoes and boots..if shoes weigh 2 lbs I do calculated shipping at 1 lb. It usually works out perfectly with my EBay discount to ship them. If boots weigh 3 lbs I do calculated shipping at 2 lbs, all in all depending on where I’m shipping too it’s usually extremely close to actual shipping costs! You might win some and lose some but it all works out great for me.

I did something I know I will get shot down for doing but I felt it was the right thing to do. I decided to pass on the discount shipping rates to my buyers. Easiest way for me because I know I still wont lose money. If it ever gets out of hand, we can always charge a handling fee for supplies. ( I already usr a 50 cent handling fee ) THanks again, was very helpful.

I do prodominately shoes and do calculated on all orders. There is a setting for a rebate and I do 20% rebate. On east coast orders it's about $3 to $4 back. I do make a little off each order but also free returns and same or next day shipping . The extra goes twords returns so I don't lose my mind with all the "don't fit" returns. Customers will never be happy with any shipping cost so I keep it this way. I bargain on my prices to help offset.

Great video, maybe the USPS ground advantage to Hawaii is cheap because they drive a mile, come up for air, drive another mile come up for air and so on (HaHa). I have sold on ebay since the 90s but only as a hobby. After losing my largest client since they moved out of state (I own another small biz), I decided since I have the little warehouse, reselling made sense. I was already set up for shipping - even larger crated items if needed. My biggest challenge is organizing the items on the shelves by category and to find them easy. I am currently refining that. Thank you for all the info, Kevin.

  • @wwz1011
    @wwz1011 Місяць тому

The main reason I use calculated shipping is some of my inventory is very slow moving. It might take two years to sell. With calculated shipping, ebay updates the rates as the USPS increases their rate. With the new change in ebay policy, ebay will pass through the discount on shipping. I opted in. I have to wonder whether those that don't opt in will be penalized by eBay's algorithm. I'm selling every day so I guess I am OK. No discount on media mail, so calculated works as long as you have weight and dimensions correct. I rarely do free shipping, I will do it if most other listings (my competition) are giving free shipping. I sell some big stuff like bicycles. Flat rate just will not work as longer distances can cost 3 to 4 times as much as nearby customers. I will bump up weights to help offset supplies and fees.

Love your videos! Looking for your opinion here...when overcharging for shipping, what margin do you decide to do a partial refund? I try to figure in my supplies, etc into flat rate. The past two days I've had nearby sales that would seem obviously overpriced for shipping imo. I refunded a buyer back $5 yesterday. I feel like I may need to do the same again today. Normally I sell further away and the shipping price would've been fair. Also, do partial refunds harm your account in any form? Thanks in advance!

I tend to do calculated shipping but I do weigh the items. And adjust the weights to reflect a cheaper weight to make the cost more competitive. Basically if it weighs 3 lbs boxed up I may set it at 2Lbs rate so it’ll charge less. I do correct weights and dimensions before actually shipping it tends do work out as breaking even. I’ll also work with buyers if they buy multiple items and shipping is crazy overpriced.

I am switching over to flat rate,, but what I do is I use PirateShip to calculate from Florida to Seattle so I know what the highest price would be (except AK & Hi). I seem to sell an awful lot of items to Southern California and to Washington and Oregon. I usually add a little to the price to cover myself and the fee that Ebay will charge me. Then any items that are shipped very close by I make a little money and if they are shipped far away, I hopefully break even. It does not seem to be slowing down my sales at all.

Maybe put your EBay store name here, and possibly Kevin will give your store a shout out! One more thing, look at sell through rates for all of your items, and as you’re doing that, relist them all and adjust prices according to STR. For instance, if it’s got a high STR, then keep the price high. If it’s low, maybe put it on sale. You may breathe new life into your store.

I’ve seen where eBay lets me match shipping but it’s 3.66 or A very low cost. I have never sent anything out where shipping cost me that little. So if it’s 6 dollars like usual, who covers that? Or am I getting charged the 3 dollars. That’s why I don’t want to do it.

On the other video you weighted the tape dispenser and you placed it on a flat rate box and said it would go for 2 lbs . Doesn't USPS weigh this or weight doesn't matter on flat rate? I'm new and don't know how I can change 6 lbs. to two lbs.

I think I am confused on what you are asking. When I am talking about flat rate in this video I am saying that the flat rate is what I charge. That does not mean I am using a flat rate box from the post office. I use whatever method I want to ship it. I think in the other video I was making the point that flat rate usps priority mail is not the best way to ship. There are a few exceptions but they are few and far between. Me charging a flat rate to a buyer is very different than me using a flat rate from the post office. I almost never do that. I hope this makes sense.

I feel eBay should remove fees from shipping on items that are within the 1st class rate (under 1lb).
This discount is another expense on us sellers.
I agree discounting it opens up more sales opportunities across the country. But ebay can eat some of the cost by not charging us fees on 1st class shipping.

If the buyer changes their mind and returns item and selects changed mind or similar and you don't refund original shipping the buyer can dispute that and ebay will ALWAYS refund the buyer that shipping cost from your account.

Using GA and printing out labels on ebay costs a minimum of $4.26 at 4 ounces. I print out the rate calculator at usps every time they change rates so I have a good idea of what costs will be with the discount. I do free ship on everything and know how much postage will be on each item since I still add correct weight and measurements at the time of listing. I seldom use flat rate priority anymore since ga is usually cheaper. If its valuable I do ship priority. I also use alternate shippers on large items. The average buyer has no idea what postal rates are to ship anything. Seriously, no idea. I do wish ebay would fight harder for a better discount contract with usps. Maybe they can switch to pirate ship next contract renewal.

@@commonwealthflipper How often do you get under $4? Not very often. It can go higher, I believe $4.51 or so. I just listed a 3.9 ounce envelope of zippers and it came up at $4-$9. It's insane pricing. So $4 is the lowest rate even within this zone. I've recently sold within the state and under 4 ounces, nothing was under $4.

$25 with $5 in shipping is different than $30 free shipping to the buyer. The buyers pay tax on the item & not on shipping therefore, $30 with free costs the buyer more due to paying more in taxes.

Hello Kevin, I enjoy your channel, you've been very knowledgeable. I've always done calculated shipping just to make it easier on myself and I don't mind doing the whole give the buyer the shipping discount but what I do mind with this is, ebay is now giving the buyers our discounted shipping but still taking their fees right off the top of the sale including the discounted shipping which that is now taking from the seller. So if they are going to give the buyer our discounted shipping than dicontinue taking their fees out including the shipping cost as well since we no longer benefiting from discounted shipping or getting any kick backs anymore.
    Thanks kevin
