Smallest Interchangeable Lens Cameras for Blurry Background Bokeh 2
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 бер 2019
- The smallest compact portable cameras that can take high bokeh pictures with blurry background are almost always interchangeable lens cameras, except for a few exceptions like the Sony RX1Rii. This video focusses on AFFORDABLE small street cameras people can carry around town with no problem. I'm always searching for the smallest, lightest cameras and lenses possible. Here are my findings and actual test results. Subscribe to this channel because I give a lot of this stuff away!
Here is a downloadable jpg of all the cameras and lenses used in this video and sample images taken with each

Unfortunately this is the most Underrated Channel on UA-cam. Honest straight reviews with the audience being the main focus.
I'm a huge fan of small cameras. My favourite combo for bokeh is the Lumix GM5 (at 4 inches wide) with the Lumix 15mm f/1.7. Fits in my coat pocket and not too heavy to leave around my neck when I'm out and about or at a party with drink in hand.
Came here from Camera Conspiracies and subscribed because you've got great content and I'm liking your style of info delivery. Cheers!
Welcome!
Ditto
Same, three years later.
Half ditto, came again and subscribed a couple years ago. 1 of the hidden gems on YT
I'm so glad that camera conspiracies referred me to your channel I can't believe I didn't find your channel on my own. Clearly you have a collection that is extensive and your knowledge about them is also extensive
Easily the best video on UA-cam covering this topic. Covers a wide variety of formats, makes, lenses, but crucially he owns them and thus knows them inside-out. And as a pro-tog his judgement is reliable. So, while there are other brands, this puts a pretty good stake in the ground.
Wowww I love how you condensed so much information with the sample shots, size, weight and price comparisons. Exactly what I needed as I’m trying to figure out a travel friendly camera. Thank you for this!
Epic video Markus , try the panasonic 20mm f1,7 you will love it , it looks amazing on the gx850 , its small and compact ,
you have a lot of cool cameras :D
20mm f1.7 is my best.
45mm f1.8 is my second best
Hold on, I thought you're doing playthroughs and gaming videos! It's a great surprise to see you there!
Came here from Camera Conspiracies too! Love your content and admire your excellent taste in ladies - my compliments for the great photos that do her beauty justice xx
These are my favorite videos, loved the first one too! I watch several times and take notes. Thank you for thinking of us that are on a tight budget!!👏👍
your love for photography is contagious, MarkusPix! been a pleasure to watch, thank you for your effort!
Markus, your series on using the smallest cameras and lenses for blurry backgrounds is simply phenomenal. Thank you :)
Glad you like them!
Thanks for these two amazing episodes about smallest interchangable lens camera, ready provided a lot of great info for those don't want to carry heavy gears and don't want to spend too much money. Thanks
Every video i'm amazed by your gear collection and really appreciate that you take your time for all these head-on comparisons and share this file with us! I was about to buy the GX850 a while ago but as far as i know the 4k is limited to 5minutes and 1080@60fps only 20min. So i went for the GX85 that also gives me evf&ibis and is still a pretty compact camera, only bad thing is the lack of mic-input and softer 1080P video footage compared to the G85.
As always Markus, great video. Many blessings to your channel.
Marcus, you are truly the best. if other youtube camera channels disappeared it would be sad, but if you stopped it would be as if the SUN never rose in my world of joy forever. This is where i go for enlightenment Marcus. Keep making joy.Thank you.
Very nice up beat ending music. Paired with the words "...because I want people to share in the love of photography.". Beautiful.
It was pretty cool hearing you talk positively about the Sony 5100. I've had it for a few years and even though there are sexier and more advanced cameras out there, I still love it. The 5100 is very portable and gives me nice pics even with the kit lens.
Thanks for pointing out the merits of some older cameras. So many review channels are uber-focused on the latest and greatest, but not all of us are able to participate in that race. It was fun hearing your positive thoughts about my older camera.
I agree. I like simple, small and light. As long as it does the job
Very clever review Markus! Very sensible information! I like small and blurry backgrounds as well, and the ability to put on a nice wide lens!
Markus, Fantastic review. I’m currently lugging around a Nikon D500 and D810. Weight has always been an issue with travel photography, especially while using all day. You’ve given me many options...to lighten the load...
Hi Markus, got here from camera conspiracies & loved the great content. Subscribed. Regards.
Hi from Canada :)
I was recommended your channel over on Camera Conspiracies. You sure made his month!#
This video is excellent and I'm thrilled to find your channel.
Really great to see the m100 in this lineup. I needed to be very budget conscious getting my first camera and a lot of m100s were coming up used for very cheap. I think this is because people don't understand the touch interface for manual functions as well as (like you said) not knowing EF lenses work with an adapter. I wish there was a way to lock focus and exposure without needing full manual on. I would have gone with the 5100 if budget were less of an issue but I don't know if I'd really have been happier. I really wanted a Lumix going into things (more so after your breakdown) but people sure hold on to them!
I love my 28mm macro lens (lens and camera cost me 450CAD) even though it isn't super fast.
I wish the Samsung camera lines caught on, I was sure they were going to take over the market.
Thanks again for this breakdown, such an informationally dense video and very engaging!!
Exactly what I was looking for. Fantastic reviews and sample shots. Great work!!
Glad it was helpful!
Love your videos on small interchangeable lens cameras!!! Hope the manufacturers start making them again!!!
Markus, this is a very comprehensive and we'll thought out review. Thank you for the knowledge.
I like this video! I think it is awesome that you have researched the best small camera for blurry backgrounds. I did not know those Samsung cameras were still around!
You are the first one to make this videos. This is something I've been looking for. Small and lightweigth is key for me. I also own a Sony a73 for profesional work, but I also want to have a small camera for everyday stuff. I think I also would like to see other lenses that are small.
Came in from Camera Conspiracies. Great channel! You just got another sub!
You my Friend...are a Legend when it comes to Camera and video info.. i enjoy watching your utube Videos .. when i purchase Gear, i go by your recommendations. '' keep yr videos coming Sir , you are a champion visual Meister !!
I came by route of Camera Conspiracies and I'm very glad to subscribe! Thank you for all your great info!
Welcome!
Came here via Camera Conspiracies and subscribed! Great info Markus! Being new to this UA-cam stuff I need as many opinions as I can consume right now and thanks for your efforts! I am leaning towards the Sony a6400 to replace my iPhone. Next step will be getting a good lens. Haha 😂
Camera Conspiracies sent me. Like your content. Subscribed. The GX850 is great, but a bit too small for me and no grip, no view finder. Prefer the GX85; which has great IBIS and slight grip and a view finder. Although the GX85 doesn't have the selfie flip screen.
You give me inspiration. And i love your guys videos. I appreciate all the time and dedication for your videos. And it truly shows your love of photography how I love photography
Yon don't have any Olympus Camera I see: I love my Pen F!
Hey nice video man. Just discover your channel and what I like about your content is that you focus on small light weight cameras and lenses. That a just how I pick my photography gears, looking into the smallest size and weight possible. Regarding to your selection in this video I completely agree with your selection. I would also consider the Sony 35 mm oss len for APSC, it is very light weight and small size (almost the size of the kit len) and it also produces blurry background and nice bokeh.
Found you from Camera Conspiracies, looks like some good content here.
Seconded.
i love how relateable you are.. in behalf of commoners who doesnt want to think too much about techincalities,, thank you.
Oh, that Samsung NX mini caught my eye! Thank you for the video and information. I never knew about this until this video. Also, can you tag and go with this?
Insane video man. I check out part one now.
This was a great review video, thanks.
When Viltrox made the fast primes for Fuji, it definitely helped Fuji users get some nice small/affordable prime lens.
I ended up buying a lumix gx850 and Olympus 45mm f1.8 because of these videos thank you!
Get the pana 42.5 1.7 lens instead for the gx850. It has stabilization in the lens so you can record smooth video and take sharper pics, the olympus 45 is shaky af, i returned it
Under rated channel, byyyy far
Thank you. Just amazing, true great info. Right to the point. Love your style my Friend.
thanks for the video and for the generous gift you gave camera conspiracy. we all want the perfect camera.
Yesss. Love photography. Thank you sir!
Thanks Brother.. Love the info and Love your work..
Great video!!! Love your channel.
Great review, thanks for sharing!!
nice, would you be interested in doing one about Sony RX100 series? especially the video settings/options.
Another great video. The MFT Voigtländer 25mm F0.95 gives you nice blurry backgrounds. May be a bit on the heavy side weighing 435g.
You should make an update for 2020..this is so nice
Mark you great love your channel
Thanks for the great video! Cheers!
Great job, thank you so much! Subscribed
The exact video I've been looking for 👍
That is a great comparison and lens review. i have the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 45mm f1.8 on my gx80 (gx85), it is great.
Great video! Have you used the Pentax Q mount system?
Thank you very much for your video, very inspiring to me! Thank you
Can you do a video on how you experience sample variation, given that there are some lenses you own multiple copies of? (E.g. the oly 45/1.8)
Markus,
Love your channel!
The Olympus e-pm1 is still smaller! Buy that one and make a vídeo please.
This is EXACTLY the video, I was looking for. Awesome!
I’ve got the a6400, woohoo, if you’d make more videos on the 6400, I’d love to learn how to use it better!
greetings from Bermuda...the vegetable police or camera conspiracies suggested that you are worth the time due to your content.👍👍
My favorite tiny camera is my Sony NEX-5T (APS-C) with the tiny 16mm f/2.8 lens, or if I want blurry backgrounds the FE 50 f/1.8 looks great! And all three of these were relatively inexpensive!
CC sent me. This was a great video. Thanks.
@MarkusPix Hey Markus, Love your channels, this one and The Healthy Life. Both of my favorite subjects, being healthy and photography. I noticed you shoot a lot with Lumix cameras for M43. Have you used any of the Olympus bodies? Such as the E-M10's, E-M5's or E-M1's or some of the Pen's? Thanks and keep up the great work on both channels. You do amazing work, your attitude and positiveness is very inspirational!!
Lumixs tend to be smaller and have a few more features probably because Panasonic makes professional studio video cameras etc. Olympus tends to be more consumer oriented and their cameras tend to be bigger, heavier and clunkier, maybe because they want to stick to the old retro style.
@@MarkusPix Hey Markus. Thanks for your response. Well from the reviews I read Olympus tends to be better for still photography and Panasonic for video. But for stills, Olympus seems better without that much larger (Some models) Check out this comparison camerasize.com/compare/#183,594 The M5 Mark II is just 7mm longer than your GX-1 and a little taller primarily do to the built in viewfinder. Also the Olympus M1 II is a very well made and professional camera. Check out some reviews about it. Would like you to get one to see your take on it, you may like it. Here is a comparisons between the G7 you own and the M1 II camerasize.com/compare/#621,692
Excellent video.
A really nice review!
Which camera can you recommend? I also need video, so external mic input is mandatory for me (flip out or fully articulated screen too, for proper framing). I thought about a6400, but my budget is extremely limited and I can't afford it :( Thought about canon 80d also (used, can't afford new ones also), but it's too big.
upd.
I'd buy something like g7x mark ii, if it had external mic input. I also will be forced to use kit lens, can't afford something better either. Most of my photos I did on go, and up to 40-50% is in low light. If I had money I'd buy two cameras probably, one bulky with good video features, and one pocket size, like g7x mark ii, or samsung nx500 or nx mini (or even pentax q-something). I'm no way near even amateur level, photo is just my small hobby only, I'm more video guy.
I would include the Panasonic GM1 and/or GM5. I have the GM1 and use it regularly especially in crowded places. I went to an Octoberfest event yesterday and used this camera with the Panasonic 15mm F1.7 lens. Just the right combo for a crowded and dark environment.
Yes I did a video on those after this video ua-cam.com/video/vj2eji4ms5A/v-deo.html
brilliant mate. as always was so useful. thanks. mate could you please talk about the cameras that has night vision option? the list of all of them? and tell me why all the cameras does not have N.v option by itself like sony FDR-AX100E ? I love wild-life night vision photography and I had to open a lot of my cameras and remove the IR filter. then the problem is I can not use them as a normal camera anymore.sad. it cost me a lot. what should I do? talk about it please mate. thanks
Great video as always. For me Fuji xt20 - xt30 shortly with 56 1.2 is a killer.
Totally agree! I travel the world with the X-T30, the 56 & 16mm in a Peak Design 10l sling bag xx
@@34136TS the XT30 is great!
very excellent review
Thanks Markus, it is my 3 viewing of this. I wish I could afford the RX1R as it merges the a6*** with the A7*** in a super hi-spec, mini format.
What do you think of the FPL
What to do?
Hi Markus, thank you for this informative tour of cameras. I have a Lumix Panasonic DMC -FZ47. I like it very much. The only thing I don't understand is when I put in a memory stick it doesn't capture pictures. I know someone in Montreal who fixes cameras so I'm going to see what he can do. I love it because it's light weight and takes great pics. But I don't think it has a blurred background. Thank you for another great video. Leila McIlwraith.
Cool stuff...they need to make RX100 size with fullframe.
I use the Zuiko 17mm or Lumix 20mm pancake with my pen ep-5 when I want to go small but I mostly shoot landscapes.
Pair the f2 fujicron lenses (23/35/50) with the smaller Fujifilm lenses to make a very portable kit that can shoot blurry backgrounds.
Thank you Markus to make the conspiracy guy be happy with cameras for at least once.
No wonder you and Kasey connected. He’s in search of the perfect camera and you have used many cameras.
Nice video enjoyed
You should try the 75 F/1.8 Olympus on your Panasonic GX850 to shoot portraiture...
I use it on a G9 and it's amazing. The smallest 150mm equivalent I know with this quality.
And I note the option of GX880 as a city camera, with my 25 F/1.4 or with a 15 F/1.7 I'll buy.
Thanks Marc! Ok I'll get one and check it out
Camera Conspiracies sent me! Thanks.
Hi Markus, nice review, you miss only the nikon 1 with 32mm1.2 in my opinion. Just a question, is the sensor of sony 5100 the same of sony 6400? Bye for Italy.
I think the sensor is the same, but the 5100 uses an older AVCHD codec that's not as sharp and colors smear more
@@MarkusPix Thank you for the answer. Watch my channel if you want. See you. Marco.
I have the Lmix GX850 too. It is crazy good camera.... the second hand is so cheap as $100 but it gives super nice pictures.
Totally agree!
Have you tried The Olympus Stylus 1? Old, but with a 28-300mm (eq) f2.8 (constant) lens. Beautiful camera. Blurry!
Its similar in shape and size to the new G100. I'm just not a big fan of the lump on top
Great video my friend.
Markus, I am a 55 yr old women needing a hobby, my daughter purchased a Cannon EOS Rebel T6 Premium kit. I have no clue where to start but excited to get going. Could you do a review and give us beginners a few pointers. :)
There are two things about the Gx850/880 combos: 1) no manual control for video and 2) video stabilization... otherwise, I would have got that setup. Great videos as always, Markus! Thank you so much.
Actually if you put it into portrait scene mode, you can adjust exposure manually, white balance, etc. I know its strange how it doesn't let you do that in manual for videos, but I can control it in portrait on the dial. As for stabilisation, almost all my talk videos are on a tripod anyway. How many people realistically walk around taking videos, if you think about it, most is standing or on a tripod. You could always use a small handheld gimbal because this camera is so small and lightweight
@@MarkusPix I'll be damned! Great to know! I looked into that a long time ago and ALL the info I could find was that it was impossible for video... One thing is for sure is that it doesn't behave like almost every single other Panasonic out there. Thanks for looking into it for me. I really appreciate it.
These are videos filmed with the GX850 ua-cam.com/video/c7skv0TrFiA/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/EqxNeJ1GUyg/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/32jyPi8q-QE/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/N-pBX9kVRjs/v-deo.html
#MarkusPix Awesome video and Love your channel , Thank you for the information . I love photography and I now have a Lumix FZ 200 bridge it's ok but missing so much . I and used to own a Nikon N 90s then to Nikon D 300 and lots of lens and accessories , but was stolen out of my car and it and my insurance wouldn't pay for it , has been 10 yrs since I had any equipment and trying to save on Mirrorless camera and lenses , I'm far from it now , Im disabled and it's taking forever but Thank you for channels like yours I can live vicariously though you guys, much appreciated
Hey Markus, quick question if you happen to find this in your in box. If you could add just one toy or play camera.. What would you grab b/t the Samsung NX and Lumix GX850, looking at ease of use and lens availability..
Ooh two of my favorites. Depends. The GX850 is much smaller and lighter so that's what I would take if I want to travel naked. But for sheer fun to play with, the NX500 is definitely a fun toy.
Kasey from camera conspiracy sent me. Great stuff
That yonguo with the ef m 22mm would have been amazing
Absolutely amazing review. I was researching for the smallest mirrorless camera for a while, and this video answers all I want to know. I have the NX-mini, I guess I know I have the smallest one now. Hope Samsung will not abandon NX-M line.
Thank you. Here's a newer video on the same subject ua-cam.com/video/vj2eji4ms5A/v-deo.html
The original Olympus E-M1 is an incredible deal right now, around $200 on ebay.
👍
Hi Markus, what would you recommend instead of the Lumix GX850 which seems to be impossible to buy in 2023? Thanks!
G100 is the smallest new one.
ua-cam.com/video/35KV31_CT5I/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/oBp5dMnAJ9M/v-deo.html
I also love my G7 its super lightweight.

I don't want to say how I learned of you. It was some strange dude who wears sandals with socks. Anyway, I like the review and found your conclusion persuasive. But there's another camera I'd recommend. It's the Ricoh GR iii. Yes, no interchangeable lenses. Just a f/2.8 fixed lens. The sensor is APS-C, as important for blur as the lens. And tiny? Yes. It's smaller than the Samsung on your table. It's amazing. Perfect for street photography, for which it's famous in Japan. It's $900.
Leica M10 with Summilux 50 Asph is kinda decent and small.
Hate to nitpick but the Canon 22mm EF-M lens is f/2.0 not f/1.2. I wish they made a lens like what you said, but alas no.
man you are so likable. thx
